A desperate widow dares greatly…
Penniless since her husband’s demise and now ousted from her home by his indifferent heir, a young widow reaches her wits’ end—the end of her meager food stores, certainly. When her friend, a diamond of the demimonde, arranges a protector for Thea, she can do naught but agree. ’Tis that or starve.
But what happens when her previously passionless existence is challenged by the titled lord who now owns her favors? The brusque, rough-around-the-edges Marquis keeps to himself, is annoyingly silent, but kisses like a dream and Thea soon falls for the mysterious man she knows nothing about… Save for his generous nature, lusty sense of humor, and the grand accommodations he’s provided.
As to the man himself? Secrets abound and Thea fears she may have exchanged homelessness for heartbreak.
Seductive Silence is the first of the Mistress in the Making series, a fun, “sexy Jane Austen styled”, emotionally satisfying tale told in three parts: Seductive Silence, Lusty Letters, and Daring Declarations.
Jane Austen fans who always wished her fun and witty books had more heat are likely to enjoy this sweet and spicy hot Regency romance.
Seductive Silence (Mistress in the Making Book 1) Reviews

So this was a surpisingly fun start to this little series.
I confess I was growing bored with it until I realized all the novellas were about these two getting to know each other, and now I am ready to continue.
I am very charmed by Thea and Daniel, so lets see where it goes.
Even though they didn't even meet until 60% into this... I'll keep going because I was won over by their inner thoughts.
3.5/5 stars -
I felt that I built this book up in my mind for a great let down. Don't get me wrong the story and plot itself is unique and good. I just felt that some scenes were longer than needed and when I got to the cliff hanger at the end, I felt disappointed in the story.

This is one of those books that I didn't love, but I didn't hate it either.
The story starts with Lord Tremayne (Daniel), and we learn that he has a stutter, and his father treated him like crap because of it. I've read a lot of other historical romances with a similar backstory for the hero, but this one was a bit different in that Tremayne isn't opposed to eventually marrying and seems to want to try to make a good impression on his lover/mistress. In addition, we learn that his mistress of the past few years has left him (he is relieved she's moved on), and he's in the market for someone new.
Then we meet Dorothea, who was married to one of her father's friends, and is recently widowed. She's gone through most of her money and has been unable to find employment. Luckily, she happens to be friends with a woman who is a lord's long-time mistress, and Sarah is interested in helping Dorothea find a protector. The MCs meet at a party at Sarah's house, and Dorothea agrees to become Daniel's mistress.
What I liked about this book:
The story definitely has a lot of potential. I enjoyed Dorothea, even though she was a bit too naive, and Daniel's sweet moments were nice. I liked that Dorothea wasn't gentry, so there's a little social difference for her to work through in addition to her new role.
What I didn't like:
The MCs were really wishy-washy and horribly inconsistent. They'd make a decision, then in the next paragraph change it without explaining why. Daniel's inner ramblings about whether or not he should bed Dorothea that first night were almost hard to follow because he would seem so sure of a decision and then do something completely different. Like, he's thinking that he shouldn't even touch Dorothea when she comes to bed because she looks so nervous, but then he decides he wants to try anal with her because he bought her and it's his right, but then he ends up just rubbing one out on her back instead. (Like, dude, how about some good ol'PIV to ease her in to all this?) And then he wants to ask Dorothea if he could stay the night, but he doesn't ask her, and instead just starts dressing to leave even after she asks if he'll stay.
And Dorothea was a bit too sweet and innocent. She was married eight years and never kissed with tongue?
My biggest issue with this book; however, is that it isn't a complete story! I really wish the first line of the precis had stated "Part one in a three part story". I didn't read the precis of the other books in the series, so I assumed each book was about a different couple.
So, unfortunately, the ending of this book isn't really an ending. It just stops, and I feel like there just wasn't much relationship building at all by the end.
I'm kind of bummed, and I haven't decided if I want to commit to two more books with this couple. -

I enjoyed the entire book. The story is quite riveting and realistic. Daniel a marquess is a quiet man. But it is only a cover for his stammering. When the story described his childhood, it devastated me. It was painful, brutal and without love. His father loathed him. He grew up thinking all people would treat him as his father has. He still has a lot to overcome. He is looking for a new mistress. When his good friend suggests he attend a dinner party to meet a potential mistress he agrees. Dorothea is a penniless, destitute widow. She lives in squalor and her landlord is constantly making advances. Dorothea is an only child of parents who were the only children. She had no relatives nor friends to turn to. Until she met Sarah. Sarah was the mistress of Daniel's good friend. So, she matched Dorothea and Daniel. Dorothea knew little of sex, her husband was perfunctory. But she decided between living in squalor, little food if any could be had, no employment and a landlord who was getting more brutal by the day she decided to become Daniel's mistress. Thank goodness he liked her on sight. Dorothea did not know what to think of Daniel because he did not speak. Their first night together was confusing. Daniel had plenty of questions to ask but would not because of his stutter. Dorothea had questions but she felt she dare not ask when he told her to stay quiet. What a muddle. This story continues in book two and i am looking forward to reading it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There are three separate books that make up the entirety of this story. This book introduces Daniel, Lord Tremayne and Thea, a penniless widow. Daniel has a severe stammer and is quiet in public as much as he is able. Daniel has a tragic past and is shaped by it. Thea finds herself a widow who doesn’t mourn her pitiful excuse of a husband. She is in a desperate situation and has to make a life altering choice. Daniel and Thea’s attraction to one another is electric. I loved Daniel’s strength, both physical and emotional. Thea’s sweetness and uncertainty was endearing. These are two broken people who find solace in one another.
They are in their heads a lot, second guessing themselves. The insecurity they show is genuine. The plot had enough humor that I caught myself smiling. I loved Cyclops, the one eyed dog! It was fast paced and character driven. The characters were entertaining and likable. The book ends with the reader wanting more. I found myself jumping into the next book. A great romance!

Daniel is a lord who stutters and it makes him hide away from society as much as he can. Thea has fallen on hard times. A widow, she is desperately poor, and her landlord has been making advances. Her friend suggests she becomes a mistress and has just the ideal gentleman in mind to be her protector.
This started off with so much promise. We had a lengthy chapter where we were introduced to Daniel. We learned some details of his past, and we met his sister (along with some intriguing hints about her story). We followed that up with a lengthy chapter with Thea and her friend, where we learn more about Thea's circumstances. Both characters arouse some sympathy and interest.
Then it all goes downhill fast.
For one thing, this is not a book! I really wish some authors would learn the difference between "book 1" and "part 1". This is part one of a serial, not book one of a series. If it had been labelled correctly, I would not have wasted my time.
After some lengthy introductory chapters, our couple finally meet (at about 40% of the book). They spend very little time together and barely speak. Then Thea goes off to the house he has arranged for his new mistress. There is a very unsatisfactory "sex" scene with as much passion as a soggy piece of toast. The book isn't clean (which is fine since I generally prefer a bit of steam), but it's not passionate either. I don't know what that leaves. It's certainly not a romance either since the couple barely know each other.
Then, of course, it all ends quite suddenly and pointlessly. I believe I'm supposed to buy part two now. Needless to say, I won't bother. I don't know why authors think this sort of manipulation will work. It always makes me add that author to my "don't waste my time" list.
In the end, this was a massive disappointment. -
Magnificent!!
! Seductive Silence is deserving of 5 stars!
Such a fun and intriguing read. I loved all the internal dialogue between the Hero & heroine. I loved reading about an imperfect and confidence lacking Hero. The storyline is definitely unique and I look forward to picking up book 2 immediately!

Bad form not disclosing this is a cliffhanger
Interesting examination of how a woman makes the decision to trade her body for protection. The hero is classically damaged, manifested as a stutter he hides well. I simply cannot give a better rating when I have to purchase TWO more books to get the rest of the story. -

Off to An Excellent Start
I read a lot of Regency romance. Often, they are too predictable, but I never feel like this author’s books are... thank goodness! She writes a truly different Regency story. First, she writes them with much humor. In fact, if you're expecting the typical staid or refined Regency, her writing may disappoint you… but in a good way if you let it. I suggest you just be open to the story and simply go along for the ride. This particular book has not only the author’s trademark humor but touches on a subject that is certainly more serious... how people with a stutter can be ostracized. We plainly see the hero often get frustrated trying to communicate—my heart went out to him at each of his big struggles—though at times his stutter is barely there. The author has created two unique characters with their differing wounds that make them so right for each other... even though they don't fully comprehend that right away. This particular book is steamy, as you might imagine since the series is called “Mistress in the Making,” but only toward the end. By the way, this book is only the first one about this couple. I'm not sure how many the author is intending to write for them, but this only starts Thea and Lord Tremayne’s romantic arc. However, the author has set a great stage with fantastic characters with excellent backstories, and I am certainly looking forward to reading more about them.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Seductive Silence is the first part of a three part story that is separated into three books.
It is difficult to come to any conclusions in that the story is just getting started.
What I can deduce is that I am really enjoying the main characters. Lord Tremayne and Thea are both interesting and unique people. They both have pasts that haunt their present and both have a large open space in their hearts that can be filled by the affection and love of the right person.
Just a note that I am reading this story as compiled in a collection called Mistress in the Making, so I have all three stories at my fingertips. The first two stories end in a type of cliffhanger, so I would recommend getting this collection or having the next book lined up.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this story as a part of the "Mistress in the Making" bundle thanks to Larissa Lyons via BookSirens. All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars rounded up! -
Cliffhanger - part 1 of a 3 book series. No mention of that in the description. This one was free for stuff kindle day, and the other two are not on KU. the story was really short and should not have been put in a three book series. Just seems like a money grab. As for the story itself - meh. Fine for free or KU. I hold books that are not included in a subscription to a higher standard and this one does not meet the requirements.
The dialogue was hard to follow sometimes. Almost as if the author thinks faster than types and meanings were unclear or thoughts disjointed. A decent editor can help with that. I enjoyed the use of time period accurate slang. The story was equal parts rushed and slow. The entire series takes place in 5 days. Important bits skimmed through while filler storylines were stretched out. Secondary plots went nowhere. -
I know this book fell into the erotic romance category, but it's more of a steamy read than anything. The FMC is a virginal-widow who is down on her luck. I suppose the premise of becoming a mistress to a stoic marquis who is desperate to hide his stuttering that caused shame to his father can be considered provocative, but in reality the story between the two is more painfully cute as each one of them suffers through their personal demons while throne to learn to open up.
It's more of a novella, about 90 pages long and encompasses their first meeting. I'm sure all three books could have been out together for a more complete story instead of the abrupt ending.

Daniel Holbrook, Marquis of Tremayne, needs a new mistress. Thea Hurwell is a widow with no means of support. Destitute, she owes rent for her room in Seven Dials and needs to get away from her abusive landlord. With very little to eat and no hope for a job, she meets a mistress who persuades her to become one to a specific gentleman. Thea is thankful to have a home and someone to take care of her. Daniel just wants a mistress, until he realizes she is an innocent, though married for eight years.
The first book in the series continues in Lusty Letters.

3.5 stars - This is quite steamy! But for some reason, the smut was better done than most in this genre. My only complaint (and the reason why it got 3.5 stars & not 4) is that the narrative is broken into three parts! Whyyyy! If this were a fanfic series, I would be like NBD, I’ll just click over to the next one! But it’s books so now I have go get the second and third! Ugh! I just want to know what happens right now lol

Not a bad little novella if you’re into the regency kind of historical romance. There is some strong sexual content in the later chapters but for the most part, rather than being simply a historical erotica, it is actually a short regency novella with an actual storyline and cohesive plot. The story itself was good I just didn’t vibe with this one and don’t think I’ll continue the full series.
TW: Sexual Content -
The story is about a man who stutters and was brutalized by his father and now stays away from society but is looking for a mistress because his left him for another, sadly the story ends at him taking a lovely widow home and how he leaves her. You have to get the next story to see what happens next

FYI, this is actually the first of three books that should really be a single book. I have no idea why the author chose to split them like this in near-cliffhanger form. (I can’t exactly call “...and then they had a sexy time in his opera box” a cliffhanger.)
They’re all on Kindle Unlimited, though, so at least there’s that. -
This book is all in introduction to the story
The characters are well described And the plot so far is when a man needs his mistress. That's all there is to this book it tells have a poor life And his desires and his problem with stuttering. Would I buy this book? No, I like it when I get a whole story not bits and pc if I had known this I would have not ordered it. -
A beautifully written story that will lead to love in future books.
Lord Tremayne stutters and is somewhat insecure die to his childhood.
A young innocent widow who seeks protection and takes the steps to become Daniels mistress.
I would like to have seen more towards the end.
Can't wait for next installment Lusty Letters!! -
Mistress in the Making, by Larissa Lyons is a series in three parts and the HEA is at the end of the third book. Hero has a debilitating stutter and heroine is a destitute widow who has her own insecurities. They trade romantic letters … including nonsensical and bawdy poems and Shakespeare sonnets. Plenty of lusty sex scenes along with delightful humor similar to Tessa Dare. Highly recommend!!

This is actually a series of 3. This is not a stand alone. These books are not perfect, but the heartfelt and romantic parts are so good, it makes them all 5 stars. They are the kind of books that you think ab out long after you finish reading. I have a book hangover. I'm afraid the next books I read won't be as good.

Silemce speak by itself
I usually hate cliffhangers in a story. This time, however, this story had me hooked. I found it charming, witting and engaging. So, I can hardly wait to see how this love story develops.
