Death in the Deep is the third aquatic horror anthology from Dead Sea Press and brings the horror up into the blue, into the wide, open ocean, where sunlight bleeds through the surface and paints everything in kind and peaceful pastels…

Where you’re completely alone. Where the horror is just as real, and where everything that can kill you will kill you.

An afternoon surfing becomes a night of terror when a yellow-eyed shape breaches the waves. An exercise in overcoming personal phobias gives the word "fear" a whole new meaning. And a deep sea fishing trip reels in more than any angler could handle...

All this and more in this thrilling collection of fifteen stories from Alan Baxter, Mark Towse, Carla Eliot, M.J. Mars, John Lynch, L.F. Mills, Rachel Doody, Nicole Lynn, S.C. Fantozzi, Charlie Jones, Nathan Gray, Matt Wildasin, C.B. Calsing, A.G. Hilton and Damascus Mincemeyer.

Don't forget: every penny of profit will be donated to The Shark Trust , an organisation promoting the conservation and protection of sharks, skates and rays. Your support is hugely appreciated.

I have loved all three of these books so far and it’s money going to help sharks!

Some brief thoughts on the stories

Deep sea Fishing- Two fishermen get more than the bargained for. It touches on the otherworldlyness of the sea.

What Drives Us to Sea- a ghostly mermaidish story of the resilience of a fishing town.

Dinner Plate- a terrifying story of a surfer encountering something much worse than a shark

Bowl Life- a solution to overcrowding on the planet and a tragedy deep under the sea.

A Drop in the Ocean-a cruise ship rescues a man floating in the ocean, not knowing his dark connections to the deep.

A Hundred Years in Every Drop- a couple of criminals get more then they bargained for in a town with a very special font of water

Teeth- A shark poacher and a desperate student meet their nemesis in the reefs. The Shark gets revenge. Favorite one so far.

Sail Away with Me- Dolphins are not always as nice as we imagine

Manatee- a woman saved by the gentle giant

The Hale Koa Incident- a couple of Marines get caught up in military experiments creating a kaiju sized problem

Squid and Girl, Girl and Squid- I’m a sucker for these kind of stories! A skinwalker gets a very different creature as her other!

Scarlet Tears and a Brick Wall- a different kind of love story. The different futures and pasts were a great way to tell this story.

Playing Shark- fun fairytale style story. Those kids on the beach were jerks.

Down with the Ship- a crew member who sneaks off in a lifeboat finds something waiting for him in the sea.

Raptures of the Deep- a cage dive gone wrong.

Sadly, this anthology didn’t do it for me either. I was expecting more aquatic horror, but just felt like I was reading the same story over and over. I will continue giving these anthologies a chance as they donate 100% of all profits to The Shark Trust.

You can read about a fishing trip gone wrong in DEEP SEA FISHING. A story about a fathers desperation in WHAT DRIVES US TO SEA. A trip to the beach to surf ends up fatal in DINNER PLATE. A messed up dystopian life in BOWL LIFE. A quick reminder about how no good deed goes unpunished in A DROP IN THE OCEAN. In A HUNDRED YEARS IN EVERY DROP you can drink out of a fountain which promises eternal life. In TEETH you can read about a monster which was supposed to be extinct. Can marine life get rabies? You can find out in SAIL AWAY WITH ME. A woman saved in MANATEE. A short tale of animal testing gone too far in THE HALE KOA INCIDENT. The story of a skin-changer in SQUID AND GIRL , GIRL AND SQUID. The story of a husband and wife’s mistake in SCARLET TEARS AND A BRICK WALL. A story of a little girl PLAYING SHARK with an unexpected ending. A luxury cruiser sinks, leaving our main character wondering if he should have gone DOWN WITH THE SHIP. A woman's therapy wasn’t as successful as she had hoped in RAPTURES OF THE DEEP.

Another great anthology about the scariest place possible, the ocean. The call of the void is strong in this volume. Once again, I found the variety of shorts very thrilling and very satisfying. The creativity of the authors featured is fantastic.
