More than 100 years ago, a group of musicians, artists, poets and authors started a movement that would influence history and African American culture for years to come. Today, 12 authors have joined forces to honor the trailblazers of the Harlem Renaissance with A New Renaissance. This beautifully written collection of original fiction, ranging from children's to contemporary by both new and established authors, will make you laugh, cry, and even shout out loud. But most of all, it will make you proud that the griot tradition lives on and is here to stay.

I don't normally read anthologies nor short stories; however, "A New Renaissance" has made a believer out of me! It might have been the uniqueness of this endeavor. For example, the authors are a diverse group of Black women, ranging from the young and upcoming in their early twenties to the elders in their 70s. Also, each story is unique with a complete and solid story line.

Most of the stories centered around Black women, which is a major plus for me. Surprisingly, there was one story that highlighted a different member of the Black community. Another draw of this collection is the diversity of the writing styles and the narratives themselves. A reader could easily pick up this book and continue without the need for looking back or having to struggle to find "their place".

If you enjoy short stories, pick this book up. If you would love to learn more about the experiences of Black women, this book is for you! Lastly, if you are need of a quick, light and enjoyable read, give "A New Renaissance" a peek.

Short story collections are not something that I usually enjoy, but this one was a delight. I greatly enjoyed reading different stories from African American authors. I learned a lot and was able to relate since they all seemed to be based on the current times. I'm glad that I took the time to read this.

This is an excellent read. I enjoyed every author. I'm proud to have been one of the authors in this collection (Dead Girl Walking). I would be happy to join Dr. Rhonda Lawson in another collection of Black Fiction Stories.

    Thank You, Dr. Rhonda
