Mr. Big (London Billionaire, #2) Reviews

  • Natalie ~ The Biblioholic

This was a bit different than what I expected going into this read. When I initially glimpsed the title and the cover, I thought I was in for some orgasmic romance between a sweet, fun-loving heroine and a manwhoring, arrogant, cannon-packing hero. WRONG!! And I absolutely love when I’m wrong in these circumstances. While Emma was very sweet, sheltered, and searching for adventure, Zach was humble, insecure, extremely hot, and trying to be a gentleman. There was no serious mention of his philandering ways and I was happy to see its lack. He was focused on Emma from the get-go and that’s where his attention remained. He knew he wanted her and had strong feelings for her, feelings that existed ever since they grew up together, but he didn’t think he could act on them. Why? Not only was she his best friend’s little sister, but he was holding on to a secret that could potentially rock her world. A secret that could make her hate him. What’s a poor bloke to do?

I enjoyed the plot, the characters, the sideshow attractions, the drama, etc. There were a few inconsistencies, such as Ben having a spare set of keys versus taking the original set back, but these didn’t detract from my enjoyment of this story. If you like a good brother’s best friend trope as much as I do, you can’t go wrong with Mr. Big ;) xo

I can be picky about weird stuff (due to lack of attention to detail, AKA lazy writing) and unfortunately this one rubbed me the wrong way several times over. My main complaint, though, is a common one:

He had proven his father wrong on all levels, but it still didn’t mean he was good enough to be with Emma.

He shouldn’t love her. He’d been serious when he’d said he wasn’t good enough for her.

…I’m a nobody. A loser. My father was shit and treated me like it too. He never gave a damn about me and frankly, I hated him just as much as he hated me.”

Wash, rinse, repeat. Repetitively. Ad nauseum.

Meh one of those books that gets lost with a million others. Nothing new, same shit new perfume.

Zach and Emma make the perfect cryptogram. At first glance, it's complicated, but dig a little deeper and the picture becomes clearer. The words seem to fall into place. Mr. Big is brash, flirty, heartbreaking and heartwarming all rolled up in one bundle of naughty. There are moments of existential self- discovery embedded in a tale of pain, lust, love and wonderment. The path to forgiveness is a treacherous slope but the end result is worth more riches than gold. That's when the true healing can began.

This was book #20 for Romanceopoly 2020.

    Square: Coffee Shop (Around Town)
    Challenge Pack: Moon
Challenge: Read a book that has either food or drink on the cover or a foodie word in the title.

2.5 stars - I really wish Goodreads gave partial stars! I waffled for a good while wondering whether I'd give this two or three stars and ultimately decided that 2.5 was the happy medium. Three stars for me means that a book did what it promised and did it well and while this was well written, I just didn't feel it. I chose the book because the cover on Amazon has the picture of a drink on the cover, while the cover on Goodreads has a picture of a man on it. Whatever.

Emma is a very sweet small town girl who has finally escaped her small town to go to London and follow her dreams of getting her masters and learning from/working with a photographer she is greatly inspired by. She's the baby of the family and because of a Very Bad Decision made by one of her older brothers when he moved to London (he died in a car crash caused by his drunk driving), her parents and other older brother are overprotective. Her older brother asks his oldest and best friend, Zach, to watch out for Emma since she's all alone in a new city. Zach has known Emma since they were kids - and has harbored secret feelings for her since they were kids, but he's never felt as if he were Good Enough. He's a billionaire, a business success, and harbors a secret he's kept from Emma. When Steven asks him to keep an eye out, he does... but Emma has grown up so much in the years he's been away from their small town and his feelings have not changed. Emma, for her part, also harbored a secret crush on Zach and when she sees him after all those years realizes her feelings haven't changed. When her brother finds out about them and when Zach comes clean with Emma, will their new relationship stand the test?

I wanted to like this book. I really, really did. It has so many of the tropes I usually go for: brother's best friend, forbidden romance, tortured billionaire who focused on his success to impress the girl he's loved forever, dark secrets... and I think that there were just too many of them all sunk into one story. I didn't hate the story at all, I quite enjoyed parts of it, but it just seemed like All the Tropes had to be addressed. I wanted to smack the hero, Zach, every damn time he was all broody and "I don't deserve her," "She'll hate me when she knows," "her brother is like family and he'll kill me when he realizes we're together. He asked me to look out for her not fuck her." Meh. So much meh. I literally cheered for Emma when she calls Zach out for shagging her in the back of a limo but then pretty much runs away... only to fall into his orbit again because she can't stay away. Right. While so much of Emma's experience in a big city is unrealistic, there are many parts that are believable, so there's that.

I absolutely loved loved loved this one. It's a best friend's little sister book, where the guy happens to be a really wealthy club owner and sporting a big d....
So yea, how much better can it get?

Emma has had a crush on her brother's best friend for as long as she could remember. She tried once to get things to happen, but it didn't work out as planned. While he went away to start a new life in London, she was left behind in their small village. With having not seen him in years, she just so happens to run into him, and she soon realizes that the boy she could never get out of her heart, is now a man who she can't get off her mind.

Zach has never wanted someone like he has wanted Emma. But he knows she's off limits. She was growing up, and still is now. Finding out she has moved to London makes things a lot harder for him. It was easy to stay away when she was back home, but being in the same city will be difficult. And it's just that. Keep his mind and hands off of her will be a full time job, but one he has to do because one, she's off limits, and two, he's not good enough for her.

I enjoyed this one so much. I just finished it and I already want to go back and read it again. I love seeing a love that has been festering for ages, finally come to light and be absolutely glorious. That's what this was. I wish they had more for me to read of this couple.

This was one of those books where it almost felt like the blurb of the book, and the book itself, didn't quite meet up.

Zach and Emma grew up together, sort of. He is older than she is and he is friends with her older brother. So, this is where the forbidden part should take place...although I never really believed that anyone saw it that way, or that his "secret" was actually all that big of a deal.

It's tough to address this without spoilers, so I am going to leave it at the idea that while I enjoyed the book, and the relationship development with Zach and Emma, this never really felt like a forbidden romance, and his secret lacked that "wow, when she finds out, it is over" gravitas for me to believe that Emma would actually leave him over it.

So, I guess I enjoyed this title...but not in the way I thought I would from the blurb. I do recommend it.

When fate throws the one thing you want into your path, you would be a fool to disregard it. Zach left his small village home years ago and has made something of himself. Emma is spreading her wings and moving to London for grad school. When Stephen, Emma's brother rings up Zach to have him keep an eye on her, I don't think Stephen was speaking literally. Emma has always had a crush on Zach growing up. Zach has always felt something for Emma but never acted on it because of her family. Now that Emma is grown, she is going to do everything she can to change his mind and get the happiness the both deserve.

What a great read. The characters are real and the story flowed seamlessly. I am excited to read more in the London Billionaire series.

Yay!! We are back in London! Mr.Big is Large and in charge, Zach Andrews. Zach moved away from his small town with nothing but a dream to prove his father wrong and boy did he. Unfortunately, he is still dealing with some demons of his past and the fact that he is in love with a woman he does not think he is good enough for. In walks, Emma. A blast from the past and his hometown. They have know each other forever. Emma is studying photography under the infamous, Xander Chase. So yes, we get glimpses of Xander and Imani and Abbie and Alexi in this book which I love. I loved both of these couples in their books and was aching to hear more about them.

This book beautifully wraps up all the questions that this young couple has swirling around them. Oh, did I forget to mention, the sex scenes are hot and only enhance the love story that develops. Nana Malone has a gift for creating characters and sexy situations that draw you in.

  • Linda Ketter

Definitely a 4.5 star read. Mr. Big was a typical Nana Malone HEA, but she threw in a twist to the story that drew the reader in. It wasn't a full mystery since two of the three characters knew about it, but it was mired in guilt and self-doubt and a long history of mental anguish.

Emma and Zach have known each other for years. They've been in love since they were young and neither knew that to be the case. This was a case of they were good friends and she was his best friends little sister. How do you love someone and not potentially ruin both of those relationships?

I enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it. It was a quick read. I had a hard time putting the book down wanting to know what was going to happen next.

  • Karen

I very much enjoyed this book. One of the highlights was seeing Xander, Imani, Abbie, and Alexi from the
Chase Brothers series. Since I just re-read
London Bound, Abbie was very fresh in my mind. One of my favorite heroines.

I'll get back to Mr. Big now by saying that while I would recommend this story, I'd say it's more of a light read than anything else. Easy to read quickly, and I found myself skimming in a couple of places. I sometimes do that, although I manage to grab the feel of that content 99% of the time.

Emma released her strangled breath. He felt her body relax into his as she let go of some of the tension. As if it were only the two of them on the edges of the dance floor.
There, in the dark, with a girl he used to know, he wanted to tell her every dark secret he had, and that idea scared the shit out of him.

Zach had been a part of Emma's life for a long time. And he'd been in love with her for most of it. Unfortunately, nothing could come of it, because she was his best friend's sister. On top of that, he felt responsible for one of the biggest tragedies in her life. But now she's in London, right under his nose, and her brother has even asked him to look out for her. Needless to say, he's in agony.

Emma had been rejected by Zach before he left for the big city, so the very last thing she wanted was to run into him so soon after she moved from their home town to get her Master's in London. Especially since she ran into a spot of trouble before she even found her apartment. Of course that meant he showed up at a club to save her from a drunken lech, making her seem helpless, hapless, and hopeless.

She slapped his hands away but he was able to gather her against him, breathing in the smell of her shampoo as she finally collapsed against him. “I don’t want to go anywhere with you,” she said against his chest, her hands curling into his jacket. “I don’t want to feel this way about you.”

Zach and Emma are drawn to each other like high-powered magnets, and Zach gives in even though he knows he should be leaving her alone. He continues their relationship, hiding the truth of his shame from her, knowing she'll hate him when he confesses. Also knowing her brother will kill him when he finally shows up.

Will they be able to weather the storms of his insecurities and their family issues? How long will it take for Zach to come clean? And what happens when Stephen finally arrives back in London to find out that Zach's been "looking after" his sister in a very unwelcome way.
    ..............................
There were a few things in the story that were left murky, and the resolution was quite quick, but it was enjoyable. I give Mr. Big 3.5 bunches of abandoned flowers.

4.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Emma-Louise on behalf of KFF

Mr. Big is a second chance romance full of angst and pain. Emma and Zach have known each other since they were kids; Zach is the best friend of her brother. History and pain keep them apart for over ten years and they spend a good portion of the first half of the story fighting how they feel for one another.

The slow boil romance is back and forth and well laid out. Zach is a man who believes he is not a good choice for Emma, that he simply isn’t good enough for her because of who he is. Darkness swirls in his head and eats away at his self-worth. His internal battle is at times so harsh you can visualise how little worth he has in himself. The way Emma sees him is so completely different, she knows his worth.

‘Emma was now his responsibility and he had no idea what to do about it. Once rule though: despite the years, she was still off-limits.
You’d do well to remember that.’

The flashbacks in this story blend in effortlessly with the present. These scenes give more depth of colour to the characters’ lives. The only issue I had with this book is the blurb. It talks about a man and his large stick, and yet his stick isn’t even that prominent in the story, which to me is great. Mr. Big was all about the love two people had for each other and the pain that surrounded them and made them doubt themselves and what they were trying to make of their future together.

The description and attention to detail when it came to London was done by an author who clearly loves London. She clearly has a great understanding on the correct method practices in how to create a good read. Mr. Big was full of secondary characters that made me laugh or made me want to punch someone. Zach’s self-deprecation was deep and black. Self-destructive to the core and full of so much venom I feared he may poison himself before he found his way.

    3/5*

Boas leituras.

4.5 Fabulous Stars! Zack has always been in love with his best friend Steven's sister Emma but he has never done anything about it. Emma has always had a crush on Zac and she wished that he would have had the same feelings for her. Emma decides to go to grad school in London and she moves there. Zack is asked to watch over Emma by Steven and he knows this is going to be difficult because of his feelings for her. Once Zach sees Emma for the first time all his feelings returned and he knows that he is in trouble. Will Zack be able to put his feelings on hold for his best friend? This story was well written and I found it to be a great read! The characters had amazing chemistry with one another and you could feel how much she loved him. I was engaged from the first chapter and could not put it down until I finished! The story is told from both of points of view which gives you a greater insight into how Emma and Zack are feeling. I highly recommend this story and cannot wait to see where the author goes next!

I was giving this arc for an honest review. Iabsolutely love this story. Nana Malone has a way of writing that draws me in from the beginning and taking me on an emotional journey. Zach and Emma met when they were children. Zach had a hard life with his father and Emma, Steven and Ben's family took him under their wing. He was best mates with the boys but he always knew he felt more for Emma and she for him. Before leaving for London he almost acted on his feelings and Emma wanted him to but they were interupted. Zach pulled away and Emma felt rejected.

Zach and the boys moved to London and he starts to make a way for himself, he now owns some of the hottest clubs around. Steven is doing good but Ben dies and Zach is feeling guilty and responsible.

Some years have passed after Ben's death, now Emma is in London. Steven asked Zach to watch over her. He vows to even if it kills him because he knows that he still has feelings for her. Opening night and she's there in hs club and every emotion takes over Zach and Emma both are scared but what they feel can't be denied. They are instantly drawn to each other. They made me laugh at times especially Emma. I was a little sad because of the way Zach felt. Loved the hot sex scenes with Mr. Big!!! ☺ The characters were well developed and most of all you can feel the love. It was good to see caveman Zach too I loved him.

Awesome read and spinoff from the Chase Brothers series!!! Hey Xander!!! Hope Steven gets a book.

I loved Mr. Big by Nana Malone. This was a best friend’s little sister story that was fun, charming and a quick read.

Zach and Emma have always felt something for each other, but as his best friend’s younger sister, she is off-limits. Then Zach leaves to find his way and make something of himself. When Emma moves to London, Steven calls and asks Zach to keep an eye on his sister and show her around. But as soon as he sees her, he does not know if he can resist her.

I loved Zach. He was such a great guy, even if he did not always see himself that way. He has a secret that is tears him apart. Emma wants Zach, but he tries to keep her at a distance and she does not understand why. But as they spend time together they are not able to resist each other. But will the secret he keeps tear them apart for good?

I loved Mr. Big by Nana Malone. Let me just say I also loved Mr. Big! Emma and Zach have so much chemistry when they are together. Their story was sexy, emotional and very heartwarming. A great, fun and sexy read!

  • Sharing My

So hot! I love stories about a girl and her brother's best friend, so I knew I would love Mr. Big! I loved how strong Emma was. She wanted an adventure and to do what she loved, and nothing or no one was going to stop her. Zach was hot! His best friend asked him to look out for his sister, but he might have done too good of a job. Even though he felt he didn't deserve her, and was worried about how her brother would react, he just couldn't stay away from Emma. He was drawn to her like a magnet. Emma also felt the pull towards Zach. She just wished he'd stop giving her mixed signals. Can their relationship survive once Emma's brother finds out?

  • Nati

A great love story. They have been in love forever but they have shared their true feelings. Emma is his best friend's little sister, so she is forbidden territory for Zach. But she is leaving in London now and his brother wants him to keep an eye on her. It will be difficult for them to avoid the strong connection that pull them together. But secrets from the past will destroy their love. Can they have the future together that they deserve? You will love Zand and Emma's story. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book
Emma is moving from her small town to London, Her mom does not want her to go
and that is because of the heart break of losing one child already. Ben. Stephen is
Emma's older brother and was Ben's twin. Zach has been in London since the day
after graduation, He was Ben and Stephen's best friend growing up, Thought of Emma's
family as his own, His father was a horrible man and Zach had to leave, There is one
thing that Zach never told his best friends or Emma. He has always been in love with her
When Stephan calls Zach and lets him know that Emma is moving to London for graduate
school and asks him to watch out for her, Zach is torn, He knows that if he sees her again
things may get out of hand, he knows it is just wrong to love her, she is his best friends sister
and off limits, BUT OMG the Heat and chemistry between the two is off the charts hot.
This book was wonderful, It had me crying many times but not just tears of sorrow but of joy.
I LOVED how both Stephan and Emma felt about Zach and how neither felt it was his fault about
Ben. WONDERFUL read I HIGHLY recommend this book

  • Samantha

Mr. Big is the story of Zack Andrews and Emma Welsh. Zack is a self made man that has a past. His plagues him now and again. When Emma walks into his world again all the old feelings rise up again. He's always liked her and well she's off limits of course because hello she is his best friend's little sister. What starts out as watching over her turns into the feelings making their way out and being hard to resist.

It was a good story. The build up between the two was believable and enjoyable to read. Zack is tormented and struggling with his feelings while Emma is discovering who she is and knows her feelings are real and wants him to see them too. Seriously enjoyable and loved the chance for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  • Gina Martin

I really liked this book. The chemistry between Zack and Emma was uncharted. The book flowed well and was definitely a page turner from the beginning to the ending. This was just a really great story. I look forward to reading more stories by Nana Malone. Great job!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

  • Pauline Cassie

Mr Big is a story of forbidden love, at least that's how Zach sees it!

Zach has been in love with Emma almost as long as she has been in love with him. A story of perceived unrequited love.

Years later Emma moves to London and Zach is tasked with looking out for her.

He struggles to keep his distance and eventually fails, yay!

There are of course some trials that our young lovers have to overcome before achieving their hea.

The character of Emma is a bit more believable than that of Zach. But poor, unloved lads always make good, don't they?

An easy read with no real trauma despite the issues faced by the characters.

For an enjoyable escape from everyday life this one really hits the mark!

  • A. Anderson Turner

I was given an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review. And honestly, I would happily have bought and read this book!! This is a great story about getting a second chance at life and love. Emma and Zach are from the same small town and grow up together, but are worlds apart in terms of life experiences. Emma was sheltered and Zach was shown just how dark the world really can be at too young of an age. Without giving spoilers, Emma and Zach chance at love is almost tragically cut short even before it had a chance to bloom! It was a delight to follow their ups and downs. It was also great to get an appearance from the Chase brothers and their lady loves. I highly recommend this book!!!

  • Lisa

This was a good read that was quick to read. The characters Zach and Emma were well written characters and their story moved along well. Their story was a good story of friends to lovers but typical the story was good for them. I enjoyed their story from the start and would recommend it to others.

História típica de bilionário emo que é controlador e não sofre consequência nenhuma por isso. Conflitos super bleh. Nenhum personagem interessante. Só terminei porque era curto.
