With the discovery of a dead body, her Halloween party turns into a nightmare. With her fingerprints (and some white cat fur) are all over the murder weapon, Charity finds herself at the top of the suspect list.

Can she clear her name before the dishy Detective Sota arrests her for murder?

Costumes \u0026 Cadavers (Sassy Supplies, #1) Reviews

In the intro to the Sassy Supplies Cozy Mystery series, the Sassy Supplies store owner throws a Halloween party, but it’s not what she expects when a dead body turns up. The party turns into a murder investigation and Charity is the prime suspect. Will she be able to clear her name?

This novella is a great series introduction. It’s a quick read but fleshes out the characters and tone of the series. The plot and mystery are fun and the main character is likeable. It’s quick read, with effortless prose and a fun theme. There isn’t much in terms of in-depth mystery since it’s a really short novella, but it’s enough to whet your appetite for more to come.

If you’re looking for a quick and fun read, definitely check this out!

Up next I have a spook little mystery, that packs a big bite, and it has me craving more Halloween reads.

Charity Basham, owner of Sassy Supplies Crafts & More, is hosting a Halloween party at home, and is looking forward to the costume contest. However, before the judging can start a body is found in her backyard, and the police suspect her.

I've been reading more shorter mysteries this year and I just love them. Is it easy to solve a mystery within 300 pages? For me, yes. What about a shorter length? Well given my history with Agatha Christie short stories, I will say that is a lot harder! Costumes & Cadavers definitely gave me a challenge with trying to solve the mystery surrounding the unwanted guest's death!

This was a fun and quick read. I'm a big fan of crafting cozies, being a yarn dyer by day, and I like that this one is centred around a craft store. Naturally craft supplies play a part in the death, and let's just say I won't look at them the same way again!! Charity lives with her beautiful cat, Jinx, and her grandfather, and from the small taste of her life in Costumes & Cadavers I can't wait to learn more about her life!

If you're looking for a fun, short mystery you can't go wrong with Costumes & Cadavers. It's small town charm and compelling mystery leave me wanting to read more! Luckily for me there are more mysteries in the series, especially since I'm [im]patiently awaiting the third book in her Longhorn Trucking mysteries, due to be released next month.

This mystery only gets a four star because I would have liked it to have been long, so you could get to know the characters a bit better, otherwise it was good and would have had a five star. Having said that it is a short listen and is perfect for a short car ride and what is even better is its a cosy and you don't need to worry about small ears listening in because there is no graphic violence, The author has a nice easy style of writing that is easy to follow and with very few suspects it wasn't very complicated. Off to start the next book and learn more about the characters.
A Halloween party goes horrible wrong when a guest and Charity's cat find a dead body. With the murder weapon having come from her store Charity and her employees are the only suspects but could one of them really be a killer?
I liked the narrator. Her pleasant voice was used well to give each character there own voice.

Charity Basham is throwing a party at her shop, Sassy Supplies Crafts & More, but the party takes a horrifying turn. The skeleton in her backyard isn’t just a decoration. It’s an actual dead body. Charity quickly becomes the number one suspect. Not only are her fingerprints on the murder weapon but her cat, Jinx’s, fur is all over it too.

This is a very fast, fun cozy mystery. There’s even a cat involved. It’s the perfect way to spend a few hours. I love these “bite-sized” mysteries between longer books. I’m looking forward to reading more in this adorable series.

When I started reading the series, this book wasn't the first, so once I noticed I had the book and hadn't read it, naturally I wanted to read it. The book seemed familiar to me, so it might just have been a prequel at one point. I've already read and reviewed books 2 and 3 as they're numbered now.

The killer wasn't hard to guess since this is only 36 pages, but the author did a good job of creating the suspense needed. I was already familiar with Charity and Grampy (I love his character!) and the twins that made for a couple of Charity's regular crafters. I thought it'd been too long since I read in this series, so I borrowed book 4 right away on KU.

NOTE ADDED: I figured out where I'd read book 1 previously. It was in the anthology from last year "Once Upon a Halloween."

This is a very short story that introduces us to the Sassy Supplies world: Charity, the owner, her lovable grandfather, and some other unique characters. I loved that this story was so quick, really packed a punch, and had me wanting more of the series. The Halloween party setting was so fun! I am very interested to read more and seeing how the characters and setting are developed in subsequent books.

I am reading this from Kindle Unlimited to review for my blog. My review is not influenced in any way.

Costumes and Cadavers is a short cozy mystery story. The book wastes no time setting up a murder mystery. Sassy Supplies Crafts & More shop owner Charity Basham is hosting a Halloween party. The discovery of a dead body in her garden puts a damper on the festivities.

This short story is enjoyable and is a very quick read. Costumes & Cadavers is a fast-paced murder mystery. I was engaged in the captivating story, characters, and mystery. If you've got a few minutes, grab Costumes & Cadavers for a hauntingly good time.

I love anything Halloween related so couldn’t wait to get stuck into this short story, whilst I loved it the only problem it was too short, I didn’t have enough time to get invested into the characters.

This would have been great as a longer book to start the series rather than a short, it only took me about half hour to read and I really wish I could have gotten to know the characters better and more about the killer in depth.

Overall I enjoyed the story, I want to read more on this series and I hope I get to know the characters better before another murder!

This pint size read packs a lot of punch, and made me wish there were more pages to turn.
From a fun party, giving out candy to finding a body in the back yard, and them meeting the various characters.
At first, when the clues began dropping, I thought I knew, but was I surprised? Yes!
I’ll be looking for more of these novella’s by Ms. Brown
I received this book through Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

    Quick read.

Cozy quick mystery that gets wrapped up in a tidy little bow in the end.

Our fMC 'finds' a dead body in her back yard during a Halloween party. With many suspects the police first look at the hostess.

I was disappointed that there wasn't more detailed descriptions of the characters; what does Nate look like? Grandpa? Officer Sota?

    Really good quick read!
If you're sitting about waiting and need something to bide your time, or perhaps you're on the bus, or any time at all, really, this is the book for you! A fast read, a great story with clues to keep you guessing, and I just love Grampy!

    Cute, quick read

This was a cute, very quick read. I liked that it was themed around a Halloween party & the relationship with the main characters grandpa is nice to see. The writing style is a little quirky but I liked it.

A short strange story. Strange in the murder and how fast it was solved. A good story though.
