Drudge Match (A Cyberpunk Saga #7) Reviews

Up next from Darth's Colossal Stack of Stuff is "Drudge Match," the seventh and final installment from Matthew A Goodwin's Cyberpunk Saga. You'll want to check out the other books in the series before visiting the series finale.
At long last, the Cyberpunk Saga has come to a close. In this final volume, Moss and his comrades must work to hammer the final nails into the coffin of the corporate ghouls who run earth. Cornered like animals, the corporations will fight as dirty as they need to in order to retain their grip on the Earth and its denizens--even if it means sacrificing the world's population.
"Drudge Match" certainly doesn't beat around the bush when wrapping up the story. Clocking in at just under two hundred pages, the novel is a quick sucker-punch of cyberpunk action that still manages to tie a nice bow on the end of the series and send off our venerable heroes in a fitting manner. "Drudge Match" gives you the satisfying closing you had imagined while also incorporating some surprises that keep you on your toes until quite literally the closing pages of the book. The novel has a very cyberpunk ending that balances both genre convention and reader satisfaction. I can't say more without spoiling the details, but suffice it to say the ending is very emotional on several different levels.
At this point, I've already made known my thoughts on the series' effective characterization over the span of its seven novels and one novella. It's been quite a journey for Moss and his friends over the course of the series, and it's been so very compelling to see them (particularly Moss and Gibbs) transition from soft corporate bubs to famed freedom fighters. The characters have almost come to feel like family, and it's a bit of an emotional experience to finally bid them adeiu. I was particularly impressed with the author's adroit handling of Arthur Smith toward the end of the novel, and how he is some ways revealed to be the darker side of Moss. There is an interesting duality that takes place in Arthur's pitch to Moss that I didn't see coming.
It's been such a joy to tag along on the fun ride that the Cyberpunk Saga has been. How captivating it's been to watch both protagonist and author embark on this journey of discovery, and ultimately, success. Congratulations to Moss and Matt on a job well done. While this story thread may be at an end, there are many more tales to be told, and the universe is the limit. And with Matthew A Goodwin at the helm, what a bright universe it will be. -
An incredibly satisfying conclusion to Goodwin's cyberpunk saga. Moss and company finally get a chance to take down Thut Co in this long awaited finale with an ending you won't see coming and won't believe it after.

A fun ride
An enjoyable dystopian world with robots, a lot of character development, and generally avoiding monotony which is harder to do with the longer series. Overall a fun read.
