All I wanted when I moved to Somerset was a quiet life, a few friends, and a house I could fill with books. Too bad, it didn’t look like any of that was going to happen.
Scarlett is the first novel in the Love In Somerset Series by Shelly Ferguson. If you are in the mood for a slow-burn romance featuring a sassy woman and an alpharoll hero this is the book for you.

this was like a hallmark movie version of a typical shifter romance. That’s the best way to describe it. Very hallmark channelesque (yes, I just made that word up)
It wasn’t bad. I’m more of a dark romance type of reader, so it wasn’t really my jam. But it has an enjoyable storyline and mostly likable characters. So, if you’re into Instalove very little conflict and HEA all in 280 pages you’ll enjoy this.
Although, I downloaded this on KU and it said in the description “recently revised by new editor” or whatever and there were still a weird amount of typos/grammatical errors. -
Love is an understatement. I don’t have words to decribe how this book made me feel. This is a fairtytale type book with a fresh new twist on it. The characters is so loveable and relatable that I want a little Fara (gremlin) for myself. The humor is great, I found myself laughing out loud, to the amusement of the rest or the women in the salon, due to the quirkiness of the main character, Scarlett’s thoughts. Shelly knows how to tell a story, that will have you turning the pages and soaking up every word, scared you might miss something.
Anyone who loves a good, sweet romance story with a twist of paranormal HAS to get this book. You won’t be disappointed.
Well done again on writing a great captivating story, Shelly. I hope there is tons more, cause you just got a fan for life! -
Seriously, one of the BEST digital reads I have read in ages. So good, I want to get the hard copy.
Yes, unlike most of my reads there is description of sex, yet it wasn’t violent or gross as some shifter books I have read can be. This is about a true love that is sweet and hot at the same time.
Also, I want a stone friend gremlin too. Where do I sign up?
Rest of series in my to read plans! (Note: these are shorter reads than most hard copy romances I have reviewed). -
Love
I loved this book I want a gremlin it was so cute but then I also have the thought don't feed after midnight...... ahahaha.
I wish I had so many men after me honestly going from none to 3 now is a girl to choose... -
So, I normally stick to smutty romances, but I picked up this one because it fit the qualifications for a reading challenge. And, honestly, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
In the shifter universe this author created, shifter males have fated human female mates. They are born with matching marks on their necks, and at some point, the woman chants a spell for their mate to find them. Unfortunately for Scarlett, shortly after her high school graduation, her mark went black, which meant that her fated mate had died.
Years later, when this book begins, Scarlett is moving to a shifter town to work as a history teacher. During her first week, she runs into her fated mate, Ian, at the grocery store. (Obviously not dead 😂)
There are a few misunderstandings between the couple and a little drama with two other men trying to get in the way of the match, but Scarlett and Ian do make it down the aisle in the last chapter. The drama with Derek, the Centaur King, is really not as pronounced in the book as it seems in the precis, though. It's always very clear that Scarlett only wants Ian.
I think this book works very well because Scarlett is just a fun character that you enjoy rooting for. She's cute and sweet, really just very likable. My only gripe is that we don't really get to know Ian at all. He shows up a bit and grunts and gets angry a lot - very over-the-top alpha most of the time - and that's about it. This is very much Scarlett's book, not Scarlett and Ian's book. But luckily Scarlett is a hoot, so I enjoyed reading about her. And I really liked Somerset and the cast of characters living there. Lots to like in this book. -
Scarlett is certainly having an interesting week, she finds her mate, Ian, with a wedding ring on his finger. The King of Centaurs and her co-worker, the science teacher, wants her. She has a new friend that stabs anyone who makes Scarlett uncomfortable and a body guard that hardly says anything to her.
It was easier to pick what I didn’t like in Scarlett then it was to pick what I liked. The characters, and there a number of characters, are all pretty cool and likable. I did not like the science teacher, he seemed pretty odd from the beginning. The story line for Scarlett was well though out and well written with few to no edits to speak of. There are a couple of boring spots but they are fairly short lived. I look forward to reading more books in the series.

What a lovely paranormal romance! I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read and appreciate how Fergusen balances the trope of the strong woman fending for herself and saving herself with true love and the support we humans, as social beings, need.
It is a well-rounded and fun-filled adventure in small-town America. Scarlett is a sassy, determined character whose journey was fun to follow.
The reason I give four instead of five stars is that the book is a little rough around the edges as it requires a thorough proof run. -
Scarlett is a very enjoyable read. It’s packed with humor, witty internal monologue from the heroine, and lots of super hot alphas from all spectrum of the mythical world. The gremlins were adorable and I now am wondering where I can find one of my own. All in all, a fun book that kept me reading from beginning to end!

Great read !
I highly recommend this book. It kept me up way past my bed time. Well worth your time and money. -
Cutest fantasy romance ever! Very hard to put this down when you get so invested. From bears to gremlins to centaurs it’s got it all! Plus the romance is just enough independence mixed with head over heels in love that it is it’s own story set apart where over romance novels seem to blend together. I can’t wait to see where this mythology goes! Thanks Shelley for giving me this awesome story and I can’t WAIT until the next one!

Scarlett is the first book in the Love In Somerset series. I loved this sweet paranormal romance. It is well written and has lots of humour, shifters, witches, gremlins, the Crazy Cats, and a sweet romance that warms your heart.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I cannot wait to read more.

I loved Scarlett, Ian, Somerset and it’s inhabitants. The shenanigans that Scarlett found herself in went from hilarious to worrisome to awwww! She definitely had an adventure from thinking her mate was deceased, then married then....... and now of all times other others are trying to claim her too! I can’t wait to read another addition to this series!

Refreshing
If you like fantasy, you will enjoy this tale. With gremlins, shifters, witches, and love spells - all the fitting ingredients that create this lovely and magical setting. I loved Fara and her constant tantrums, I can surely imagine her facial expression. It is written with young dialogue- a refreshing story for young adults and the young at heart. -
A sweet shifter romance
If you enjoy bear shifters, a sweet romance with a little action and a dash of humor, then this book is for you. Mythical creatures abound in this story which spans into a series, though this is a standalone book. Thumbs up 😉 -
Enjoyed the Humor
What a great, fun and relaxing story. Well, parts were relaxing when her Mate was calm, lol. This book had some unusual twists, but thoroughly enjoyed the humor. Anxious to read next book in this series -
You will love this quirky paranormal romance! There is plenty of hot abs to keep the romance fires burning, but the plot is what will draw you in. Don't miss this chance!

I very much enjoyed reading this book. This is a story I am recommending to my friends. I was entertained and trilled to keep reading this story.

Rating: 3.25 Stars
The writing was engaging, the characters were likeable, but the plot was tedious.
The synopsis is what drew my attention—I.e., The FMC meets her fated mate, who she thought died ten years earlier, only to find him wearing a wedding band. If you were anticipating some OW drama and angst like I was, you’ll be a bit disappointed.

Holy Hell
So, I started reading during lunch one day... And really didn't stop except to work and sleep until I has plowed my way through this entire beautiful beast of a book. It's got everything, fated mates, misunderstandings, amazing side characters that all deserve their own books, bits that make you laugh out loud, she'd a tear, and get your heart racing. I may just need to move to Somerset.
