It is based on something that helped Jazz Thornton on her own journey towards mental health. A good friend wrote her a set of letters each in a separate labelled envelope. Every letter was specifically designed to help fight a particular feeling or situation, and Jazz read them all many times.
So, following this model, in this book each chapter is in the form of a letter, and they cover a range of emotions and situations, including the following, and much
To read when you are feeling anxious
To read when you are feeling guilty
To read when you are having suicidal thoughts
To read when you are having trouble with food
To read when you have the urge to self-harm
To read when you are struggling to sleep
To read if you are a parent
To read if you have a friend who is struggling
To read if you are afraid to see your doctor for help
Also includes practical tips from a practising psychologist, a list of places to get help, and a toolbox of handy skills to use when in distress.

This book is amazing! I was so excited when it arrived! As someone who has been following Jazz and Voices of Hope for a while, I could not wait for this book to release as it's such an incredible idea for a book - and it did not disappoint!
I'll make sure to savour each letter and use when needed, of course, but there's so much about the book itself that I love. The cover and designs used are beautiful. The letters really speak to you, both from Jazz and the other lovely letter writers who make appearances. The professional advice given between notes is awesome. It's truly just an overall great book.
I highly recommend this book to anyone. Whether you're struggling, supporting someone who is or just feel like you might need some motivation/inspiration/hope. -
TW: mental illness, eating disorders.
Such a unique idea! Slightly repetitive, but every word was important. Lots of focus on DBT skills. I would recommend it to someone who is entering the mental health system for the first time, or is unfamiliar with DBT. I love that you don't have to read it in order, you can jump to the letter you need at the time. The letter for people who are struggling with food nearly made me cry. I love Jazz and everything she does, but I think I personally prefer her other books. -
Believe this would be a valuable asset in all public libraries and education centres. Genuine❤️

This is a hard book to review. If you use this book in it's intended way - to pick up and read a specific letter on a specific topic and a specific time and that's all then this books is great for that reason. It's a great idea for someone really struggling with life during their teen years.
The letters are great, well researched and written. They do get a bit repetitive after a while and a lot of the advice is repeated numerous times so reading this as a book (like I did) is not a great idea as you will end up skimming. -

Something I think everyone should have on their bookshelf to reach for when they're feeling down.
