When a mysterious man, beaten and tortured, stumbles into the police precinct asking for JD, then dies before he can divulge his secret, a series of events are set in motion that will put the couples’ detecting power to the test and Harper’s life in grave danger. Soon after, Aubrey Lowen, Harper’s second cousin, is found severely beaten by the side of the road. Hospitalized, he hovers between life and death as Harper heads to Keeneland’s backstretch to keep an eye Lowen’s head trainer, Henley Smythe, who seems up to no good. As Harper tries desperately to uncover the culprit and help Aubrey’s wife Millie save their once-successful Thoroughbred farm, a dangerous character from Harper’s past shows up on the backstretch. Amid the dark pool of danger swirling around Harper, JD announces that the Feds have stepped in, preventing the couple from continuing their investigation. Undeterred, the two work under the radar to stop a killer bent on destroying the Lowen legacy and anyone who gets in the way. As murder and greed haunt every step they take, the couple knows that buried deep in Keeneland’s chaos the killer lies in wait—but uncovering the murderer just may cost Harper her life.

Betrayed in the Bluegrass (Bluegrass, #2) Reviews

Betrayed in the Bluegrass by Virginia Slachman is a really great, action packed thriller! It was difficult to set down and the pacing was great.

This is a murder mystery that keeps you guessing from start to finish. I think what’s cool about this one though, is the look into the race world and how realistic it is. I absolutely loved the majestic feel of the Thoroughbred horses and the connection between the humans and the animals.

Speaking of characters, I very much enjoyed these ones. Intriguing and well-rounded, I found myself wishing these people were real wo I could be friends with them!

Overall a great read that I would definitely recommend giving a shot!

Thank you to R&R Book Tours for the free review copy. All opinions are my own and unbiased.

This was an intense and thrilling mystery. There are enough twists to keep you guessing throughout the story, and I really liked Harper and JD. I can't say I've read many mysteries that revolve around horses, and this was a refreshing change of pace from your typical mystery. If you're looking for a fast-paced story that will keep you guessing whodunit from start to finish, you're going to really enjoy this book!

Though at times the horse terminology was a bit confusing, overall this was an engaging mystery with an entertaining storyline and well-developed characters. Gradually, as the conclusion was revealed, I thought I could predict the ending, but I was wrong!

My sincere thanks to the author and R&R Book Tours for my digital copy.

    Thoroughbred racing turns deadly

Starts slow but builds to a definite climax. If you like the Dick and Felix Francis mysteries, try this series. Horse lovers will feel at home, but may cry.

Love the characters and twists! The epic race between Deacon and Aviragus will give you chills. Such an important view into the racing industry and it gives one hope that good people exist who put these amazing animals first.

All I can say is that I am really anxious for the next one to come out. Betrayed in the Blue Grass was a great follow up to Blood in the bluegrass.
