A Bride to Save the Rancher (The Orphaned Mail Order Brides #1) Reviews

  • Beverly McCall

A Bride to Save the Rancher is the first book in Indiana Wake’s The Orphaned Mail-Order Brides series. In it, readers are introduced to two dynamic lead characters—Miriam Wiggins and Lincoln Mathews. She is one of two orphans sold to men in the west as mail-order brides. Mirriam Wiggins and her best friend, Lucy Trott, arrived in Fairplay to be mail-order brides. Mirriam meets Lincoln Mathews, a reclusive rancher. She goes through an adjustment period which is made more difficult by Lincoln’s nonconversational style. Mirriam puts herself in several dangerous situations causing anxiety for Lincoln, however, it is through these harrowing experiences that she and Lincoln begin to talk, get to know each other, and fall in love.

Ms. Wake does a remarkable job with literary devices such as dialog, point of view and descriptive language. Her dialog is solid. Their internal dialog offer her readers a glimpse into Miriam and Lincoln’s true struggles. The dual point of view further endears readers to these two. The descriptive language makes the scenes vivid. The scenes were Miriam is threatened by the wolves were riveting. Together these devices move this plot along and a smooth pace. This is a charming romance.

    Miriam and Lincoln 💞

Miriam and Lucy were best friends who came from an orphanage after being “sold” as mail order brides. Miriam found her intended to be someone she could grow to love. Poor Lucy gets rejected almost immediately.

Miriam and Linc were different as night and day, but they soon realized that they were perfect for each other.

Loved this story, but as another reviewer said there were several errors. Miriam became Emily once. Also, Lucy had only one hand due to an injury, but several times throughout the story, she was referenced as using her ‘hands’, plural. I seem to remember reading about a mail order bride with one hand not long ago, so while reading this, I wondered if it was the same story. But apparently not.

First book of the latest series presented by this author. A great story that includes action and animal behavior facts that I did not know. The only thing I disliked was it appears romance is the last thing either person desires.

    Sweet Story!

I liked the way Linc warmed up to Marian and became someone who could show he cared. At first, he could hardly talk to her, but he changed.
