They thought it was dead. But they were thinking in terms of life on Earth. Most animals have their brains in their heads. So, what they thought was dead was just hibernation while it recovered. Now it's hungry and angry. Food isn't supposed to fight back.

Well, we almost got rid of an annoyance. I really don't like her. She pushed her husband around to the point he killed himself over children. Then she was asked to raise her niece and nephew, but pawned them off on anyone who'd watch them. Or just let them wander off alone. She didn't listen when George saw the monster. She ignores her phone to go off for a tryst. She was a completely unlikable character. I'd say the author was misogynistic but he wrote other female characters as strong and capable. He even handled LGBT characters well. So, apparently she was just meant to be unlikable lol. A case of fiction reflecting reality, some people are just...ugh. The characters we all met in book 1, except for a new scientist. Not sure why he was added as he never interacted with the gator and never changed his mind on where it came from. But, another one that would be a good sci-fi B movie. I am curious about the next book. The geek in me is fussing that wolf spiders don't spin webs (they got their name because they run down prey like a wolf)- while the b movie nerd in me is saying quit being pedantic. Who knows, maybe the alien DNA changed their hunting methods?
PS: I did love The Thing movie addition. That was fun. -
Look, this isn't high art literature. It's a fun creature feature. Giant alien crocodile terrorizes an island. I can't ask for a whole lot other than a good time.
There were fun things about this book. The scenes where the gator was rampaging were a lot of fun. They were gorey and really didn't hold back, which is great.
What was the worst to me was the main character, George, an 11-year-old who was written like a young adult. It was really strange and off putting.
But overall, it was decent and fun
