No dogs were harmed in the making of this story. No real dogs, anyway. Playing on the cardinal rule that you can kill anyone in fiction—except the dog—this short horror story starts with a vet tech getting a taste of the day-to-day realities of a busy practice. But things get weird fast, and she finds herself dealing with a lot more than she bargained for. If you like a little gore and a lot of dark, you’ll enjoy this quick read.

This is an incredibly entertaining short story. I was really surprised at the amount of emotions the author invokes in just 15 pages. It reminds me vaguely of the movie May, which is one of my favorite horror films of all time. You’ll certainly root for the protagonist in this one. And the author even manages to craft an ending that leaves the story with an overall heartwarming feel. This is an amateur writer to watch.

This was a well written quick little read which I personally think could be used by the author as a teaser treat (basis for) of a longer more developed story, if she wish to some day.
The title plays on the never ending horror trope of killing animals vs. readers having a hard time with exactly that. But humans kill animals; for food, for avoiding disease and destruction, for mercy, for fun! And I do personally feel the trope is well placed in many stories, and some not so much. This little story with the word-play of a title puts focus on this, and I hope it might end up with an anthology some day, with different horror authors giving their offer to how this trope can be used properly and constructively in horror stories
I will definitely read more from her hand in the future.

This a a decent little short story. It held my interest and I thought it was an interesting idea for a story. But it's not a new favorite and I thought the writing was just ok for me. The characters were pretty flat and one dimensional. Some of the dialogue...especially at the end...was a bit cheesy. I'd recommend this if you want a quick little read and arent bothered by death of an animal/pet.

Well this short story was a shocker. Had my hooked and I had no idea where it was heading.

    Impressive

This was a very quick read and a great, unexpected short story! Not what I was expecting at all! Good work 😊

The writing was just ok… the characters were not fleshed out. Not a lot of story development or plot. I think this could have been a better story with some time and a little more work prior to publication.

The ending was just flat as well. Its almost as if someone woke up from a short, weird dream, wrote down the parts they remembered and clicked ‘publish’. I don’t know, it was just very oddly lacking.

As a dog mom, and animal lover this story was at turns heart rending, gruesome, and a very good horror story. The only advice I can give fellow dog lovers when reading this story is to keep in mind that the dogs in the story are fictional. With that in mind I recommend giving this story a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

Errrrr this is only a short story and I’m glad. I guessed I didn’t know what this is about and am glad there’s not too much animal abuse. Or else I would have cried and mentally scared lol overall a good quick short story. Surprising

Dinnae Kill The Dug is fun!

A gory, taboo-roasting short tale of misery! Obvious CW for harm to dogs, but well earned by the story’s nasty provocation
