You Can Shine So Bright! Reviews

This beautifully illustrated children's book is lovely for teaching our children about the fruits of the Spirit. With real life examples, this easy-to-read book is simple for all ages to understand. It is written in lovely rhymes that can even be memorized and sung.

One of the most convicting parts of Scripture for me is this very one from Galatians. To have a children's book to help our little ones understand how we are to behave as Christians is essential to being followers of Jesus. I would recommend this sweet book for all with young babies and growing toddlers, longing to raise tiny disciples. 4/5 stars!

P.S. For those saying this book is racist, I did not see that at all. There are various scenes of children of color doing good things, and not just stealing. The example of stealing is an example of self-control, which all of us should learn to implement in our lives.

Train up a child in the way he should go; when he is old, he shall not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

Next to living as an example of Christ’s love for his children, reading to your children about God is a way to cement values in children. In You Can Shine So Bright by Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo (and illustrated by Naomi C. Robinson), readers ages four to seven learn about the fruits of the spirit.

Each page of this 32-page picture book is filled with bright illustrations and short rhymes that are sure to engage your littles. Sharing, patience, kindness, faithfulness, and more are some attributes the authors focus on which all lead to God loving us and showing others that love as well as it shines through us.

I appreciate that the authors point out that we don’t always get it right, but even then, God loves us. This book is a great addition to any home or church library (and it would also make a wonderful and thoughtful gift).

Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own.

Upon seeing the topic of the book, I approached reading it with a sense of excitement and I was not disappointed! You Can Shine So Bright is a delightful and inspirational picture book. It is based on verses from the Bible called fruits of the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness and self-control.

    - Galatians 5:22-23 (CEB)

The same way fruits grow on a tree or vine and become ripe enough to be picked, eaten and enjoyed, it's the same way we become palatable to God and others when we try to grow in His will by doing and being what He says we can be.

Because we have a relationship with Him, through the Holy Spirit we can exhibit love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness and self-control. Throughout the book, the authors give examples of ways children can practice each of the seven fruits.

The pictures are bright and imbues a sense of happiness on sight. Various ethnicities are represented demonstrating that the offer to become like Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit is available to everyone.

This book also goes into the pile of books for my grandson! Every parent should have a copy in their arsenal to teach their child about what kind of behavior God expects from His children, even the littlest ones.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. I wrote this review voluntarily.

You Can Shine So Bright! is a sweet, rhyming, children’s book promoting the fruits of the spirit. The quatrain verses have a sing-songy cadence and are easy to read and understand. The colorful hand-drawn illustrations depict children of diverse ethnicities and abilities, who have many different interests and strengths.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” -Galatians 5:22-23 (CEB)

Each page encourages children to love and be kind, demonstrating children showing compassion for others, helping someone in need, being friendly, having fun, sharing, being patient, and doing kind deeds. By doing these things, they not only make someone else happy, they also please God.

This closing verse shares the overall sentiment of the book:

God, help me to be more like you.
    I really want to be.
I want to let your love shine bright,
For all the world to see.

And a special highlight is the Note From the Authors at the end of the book, sharing the message of Salvation. This is a powerful, meaningful, and entertaining children’s book, and a fabulous addition to any child’s parent’s or grandparent’s shelf.

First Line: Just one small act can change the world.
    Genre: Christian values, Children

You Can Shine So Bright by Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo is a brightly illustrated 32-page children's book aimed at children ages four to seven. This book has a dust jacket and measures about 9.75 by 9.35 inches--a great size for a read-aloud with your family or smaller Sunday School class, as well as a good size for children to read and look at on their own.

You Can Shine so Bright is most definitely a Christian children's book as it is based on Galations 5:22-23 which is about the Fruits of the Spirit. The book talks about each "fruit" and ways to apply it in our world today. I love that the illustrations are inclusive of children of various colors as well as abilities. It does lean a bit towards "Jesus is meek and mild" message, but it also offers a lot of good things that children could do in our world today. At the back of the book is a one-page message of salvation and a brief explanation of the fruits of the spirit. All in all, a good book for young Christian children.

I was not previously familiar with Jinger and JeremyVuolo but after reading their bio on the cover, it sounds like they are a talented couple raising 2 children.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.

This sunny book—from the illustrations’ primary and secondary colors to the positive, uplifting messages that spill out from its pages—can surely inspire little ones (ages 3 to 6 recommended) to let God’s light shine brightly through them even at a young age.
The authors, married couple Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo are known for their TV roles. Jinger, who first appeared on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, later appeared with Jeremy on Counting On.
At the beginning, opposite an illustration of a little girl pushing a boy on a tire swing, Galatians 5:22–23 introduces the theme of the fruit of the Spirit. (Back matter clarifies that we receive the Holy Spirit when we become Christians.) Then each subsequent page spread shows children in everyday situations, paired with examples of how God’s presence can shine out through us there.
For instance, for “Love,” the illustrator, Naomi C. Robinson, shows two children playing in a sandbox and on a slide. The text, always written in first person, says, “I see her sitting by herself. She does it every day. I’ll be her friend. I’ll ask her now: ‘Hey, would you like to play?’” Opposite pages respond with another bit of biblical teaching, a response to it, or a choice.
Some of the rhythms could be cleaner, especially since it is a read-aloud book. The first-person approach, also, seems a little odd, considering the target age group, because an adult, not the child, will be reading sentences, such as this: “I’ll be gentle to humankind, and to God’s creatures too. I’ll show them all how much I care. That’s what Jesus would do.” But overall, the takeaways are highly practical, God’s personal love for each child comes through clearly, and illustrations depict various ethnicities and abilities. At the end, there's a prayer asking God to “help me be more like you.” This is a bright book, indeed. Full disclosure: I received a complimentary review copy of this book but was encouraged to give an honest review.

You Can Shine So Bright is written by Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo. Jinger starred on TLC's 19 Kids and Counting and then both appeared on Counting On. This book teaches children the meaning of Galatians 5:22-23. This verse discussed the fruits of the spirit and how they encompassed love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The book explained how just a small act of kindness can change the world. The Lord will assist us in doing big things and His light will be shining bright through us. In the book, love is explained by a child deciding to reach out to another child and being their friend and loving them like we have received love from God. Goodness was conveyed when children decided to help others in raising money for a clean water charity by selling lemonade. It revealed the importance of serving others will all of our hearts.

I would recommend this amazing kid’s book to anyone aged 2-7. It was an excellent teaching tool in helping kids discover the meaning of the fruits of the spirits. I loved the examples they used in helping kids relate to the message. Some of these included being gentle and helping God’s creatures and people and it displayed a child taking a fallen bird to the vet for care. I liked how it showed how God will fill us up and give us His love to reach out to others and be a blessing. This book will help our children to shine brighter and to learn more about Christ and His teachings.

This beautifully-illustrated and sweetly-written book shows kids how God loves them and how He empowers them to show love to others, whether they are fellow kids, relatives, neighbors, or even animals. Specifically, authors Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo and illustrator Naomi C. Robinson take the Bible verses in Galatians 5:22-23 and provide, through picture and poetry, ideas for children on what it can look like to live out the fruit of the Spirit.

The illustrations include kids of all colors and even disabilities, so all kiddos will feel included as they read this picture book (or as it's read to them). And I feel that the authors don't put pressure on kids to be "perfect" or always "good;" rather, they acknowledge that we all mess up at times. But the offer of God to His children is that the Holy Spirit can live in them, and empower them to show love, joy, peace, patience...and all the other fruits concluding in self-control.

If you're a parent or grandparent who wants to share God and His Word with your little ones, this is a book that will enable you do to so in the most beautiful of ways. It will help them, I believe, to want to draw closer to God, and to see Him working through them. Wonderful!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

    Love Shines Through!

Want harmony instead of fighting, and crying among children? Try teaching them love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This pretty picture book illustrates how to do that.

Children, like adults, can't always be perfect and follow these recommendations every time, but any attempt to do them will make everyone's lives much better. This book states that just one act of kindness can change the world, so put these things into action!

The best way for children to learn these characteristics is for the adults around them to model them. Also known as the fruits of the Spirit, these traits will make adult's lives happier, too, when they practice them.

Over-sized and hard-backed, this book contains a nice encouraging note from the authors in the back.

This 5-star book is recommended for ages 3 through 3rd grade, and adults of all ages who want a peaceful family.

When I saw that Jinger and Jeremy were writing a children's book I was really excited for the release. I have followed 19 kids and counting and eventually Counting on for a long time. Their faith is a powerful example of Jesus and His love for us.

You Can Shine So Bright is written by Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo. It is illustrutrated by Naomi C. Robinson. It is published by WorthyKids. The book is 32 pages in length.

The Vuolo's present the Fruit of the Spirt in a way that early readers (ages 4-7) can understand. Each of the Fruit is given two pages and are given clear examples for kids to understand. I felt that the way that each was presented are ways that will stick with kids as they move forward into the world. The book is well written and is filled with colorful illustrations. I read this with my 9 and 11 year old sons and we enjoyed it. This would be a great addition to any library.

Thank You to the authors, publisher and JustRead Publicity Tours for allowing me to read a copy of this story - all thoughts are my own.

Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo do an exceptional job on teaching the Fruit of the Spirit in a delightful, non-preachy way. Illustrations by Naomi C. Robinson are extraordinary and each turn of the page is a joy to behold.
This children's book is packed with encouragement for kids to be kind and let God's love shine through them. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are illustrated with everyday tasks and events. Going to the park, visiting Grandma, playing at school, even waiting for the ice cream vendor can teach these important lessons to littles.
Highly recommend for elementary school-age kiddos.

You Can Shine So Bright! is a new children's entry into the area of Christian Life (or Sanctification, if your prefer). Jeremy and Jinger Vuolo highlight various ways that Christian children can let their faith shine through their life and activity. It may not offer content that is particularly new, but it is a fresh presentation with wonderful "bright" artwork by Naomi C. Robinson. Place this volume next to works that proclaim God's work for his children through Jesus (or Justification, if you prefer) and you will be providing a beginning to an introductory library of faith.

I love picture books that help young children understand scripture. Jinger and Jeremy Vuolo have taken the Fruit of the Spirit and developed a beautiful picture book, You Can Shine So Bright!. Each fruit gets a two-page spread. Their text really does help young ones better understand what each of the fruit means in the Christian life.
Naomi C. Robinson created some beautiful illustrations to complement the text. I appreciate the diversity she included - both in skin tones and differing abilities. The illustrations will keep the attention of children as they are listening to the story.
You Can Shine So Bright! could easily become a favorite family story. It could also find a place in a Sunday school or Bible class lesson on Galatians 5:22-23.
You Can Shine So Bright! would be an excellent addition to a K-12 Christian school picture book section.

This is a vibrantly illustrated book designed to teach children about the Fruit of the Spirit. While it is biblically based, it's not preachy. The story and pictures will likely engage young readers, as they learn more about love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are combined with daily activities (such as going to see Grandma, being with friend, or getting ice cream), which make the story more applicable to the target audience.

Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.
