As a Pancreatic Cancer survivor, I share my paths through missed symptoms, visits to multiple hospitals, diagnosis, treatments and my many struggles along the way. In the beginning I asked God to “Please, just let me die.” Every cancer survivor has his or her own path many of them similar to mine, many not so similar. No cancer patient has the same path as another. I hope to use the paths I went through to help others that are struggling whether with cancer or some other medical or mental issue. At 63 years old, I didn’t know what to expect once my diagnosis was confirmed. I knew the odds were against me, but I was determined to survive. I’ve always lived a positive and optimistic life and I didn’t want this cancer to change that. I knew I had an uphill battle, but I had lots of family and friends to be there along the way. For three years, I’ve faced each day as a new path. Some were good, some were not so good. But, with the grace of God I made it through another day. I had no idea where my cancer path was going to lead me. I had so many directions to take. I hope that sharing my path will help others get through their struggles. Each individual has to follow his or her own path to survival. I’ve accepted what my life is today, but I fight for a better tomorrow.

This heartfelt, honest sharing of a frightening diagnosis and treatment plan reveals how vulnerable we all are as humans. The most important inspiration for my takeaway from David's story is to recognize that we are all called to be an angel for someone. The small things we can do to make another's load a little lighter can be the very thing that offers the exact support needed at that moment. This realization is so important in an age when so many live far from family support systems. Thank you for sharing your experience, David.

My friend Dave is fighting pancreatic cancer and he wrote this book to help others through the daily struggles, the ups and downs of cancer treatments. It's well-written and could provide help and hope to others with serious illness as they struggle to be well again.
