From New York Times-bestselling author Dashka Slater, with illustrations from Sydney Hanson, Love, Escargot is the third hilarious book in the award-winning Escargot picture book series; perfect for--but not limited to--Valentine's Day!
Today is Snailentine's Day, and Escargot is on his way to a party. Will his Snailentine be there? Maybe he will find another snail who also likes to read books and eat salad with a light vinaigrette.
But when he arrives at the party, Escargot is greeted not by a snail, but by a vole. Mon dieu! This is not a Snailentine's Day party at all. It is a Volentine's Day party! At first, Escargot wants to hide in his shell, but in the end, he finds a surprising new friend.
Love, Escargot Reviews
-
I am already a fan of children’s books in general, but I am very picky about favorites. This little snail has captured my heart. He has a series of adventures and I would recommend them all!
-
Very cute Valentines book but sometimes the audience switches and that can be a little confusing.
-
I’m charmed all over again by this lovable French snail! This is an inclusive, gender-neutral, gentle Valentines readaloud that shares both the joy and shyness Valentines Day can inspire!
Do not sleep on the hilarious slug side character in this one, or the thoughtful details in every illustration.
Tres charmant! -
This is honestly the cutest series of picture books to share with the little readers in your life. This newest installment in the series does not disappoint. Great title storyline for Valentine's Day!

I loved Slater's first Escargot book, but the sequels just haven't caught the same cuteness, to me.
Still, this is a good Valentine's book - in a field of lackluster Valentine books. -
Snailentine's Day, voles, snail trails. This is the weirdest picture book I have read in a long time.

Adorable and the kids absolutely loved it and even wanted rereads (this, alas, happens less and less with picture books as they get older) though perhaps it was because I read it with a French accent ;-) The first person narrative feels so interactive and I could see this being wonderful for a library storytime. I will say, I felt that it focused a bit too much on external appearances and felt very "French" in perhaps too stereotypical a way -- overall it still worked for me because it is Escargot's personality and in the end there is a friendship established based on common interests and not just cuteness or whatever... but, it was a little quibble of mine. Otherwise, we found it charming and the illustrations are full of adorable details. I see a few reviewers felt it was too similar to earlier Escargot books, which we haven't read, so I cannot comment on that. I do think part of the appeal here for us was the novelty.

Love, love, love this book! I am so excited to read the other two books about Escargot by Daska Slater. This may very well be my new favorite book on snails.
I truly enjoyed the French to English translations included in the story as well as the felling of the character speaking directly to the audience.
I would love to see more children's books like this in regards to language. -
Escargot has rapidly become my favorite Children's Book character, if not simply for the fact that I get to do a snotty French accent whenever I read this book aloud. Each of Slater's books sends a simple, but lovely message, and it's no different in this third installment. As long as they keep coming out, we'll keep buying them for our Children's Room!

Another early 2023 favorite for us. Henry and I have shared this with out friends and are spreading the love. My french accept fluctuates from Russian to nonexistent, but these books just can't be read without attempting to be french.
Escargot is such a cutey-pants, and Henry loves to kiss, dance, and help him out any way he can. -
Magnifique! If you don’t already love this French snail, you soon will! Escargot is très cute and I highly recommend the audiobook for full French background music and French accent extraordinaire! 🐌🥗💕
-
Cute, but missing the read-aloud charm of the first two books. Quelle dommage.
-
Includes a lot of material/phrases from the first Escargot book - without the same charm and cleverness. The first book is lovely. This one is not.
-
Just not quite as good as the first two
-
Delightful! Little Escargot is back, and as charming as ever! Loved it!
-
It was rather cute, and I got to practice my French voice while reading it. But altogether, the snail's personality is a bit too French for me. Ick.
-
My nieces would love this.
-
Another delightful book with fun French words and some impressive English ones, too!
-
My favorite snail is back for a sweet love story of friendship!
-
it's called love, escargot because i love escargot
-
I love the original and so does Liliana! However, I think Lili was a little disappointed that Escargot's "snailentine" wound up being a "voletine"...even if she was laughing the whole time. <3
-
Was I slightly concerned the snail would be eaten the ENTIRE TIME? Yes, however this was so cute and I want to read the rest now k bye!
-
Even snails celebrate Valentine's.
-
just wasn't a hit with my daughter
-
Pretty much the cutest book I've read in awhile.
-
Love the Escargot stories and loved this was. It was so cute and so much fun to read aloud.
-
Magnifique!
