Night Terrors Vol. 18: Short Horror Stories Anthology Reviews
-
13 Horror tales guaranteed to make insomnia attractive! Always quality and always Scary, Volume 18 delivers a particularly frightening tale in the life of Jimmy Hsu, young Autistic Chinese American resident of haunted Anger, New Hampshire. As the self-styled protector of this inexplicably Spooky town, Jimmy has earlier come to terms with resident spook, the Red Woman, who has helped him by defeating a soul-stealing demon. But now Jimmy tracks a vicious villain back from the dead...and Jimmy's life is threatened on multiple fronts. A very edgy and frightening tale: if a murderer can return from the dead, then what hope for relief is left?

There is something for everyone in this collection. You get wendigos, shape shifters, angry spirits and, my personal favorite, a fatberg. To add sweet icing to the cake, Jimmy Hsu makes yet another appearance and performs a bit of heroism.
Many of these stories feature kids. I think that always adds a new level of angst to the horror. Kids are dealing with growing up in a scary enough world as it is. Add something unholy or supernatural to the mix and the story is mega frightening.
I've said before but it bears repeating that the authors at Scare Street are first rate. These stories never get stale or routine. They are always a treat.
