Just a kid himself, he was hellbent on making me miserable.
By fifteen I hated him.
When I was sixteen, I moved as far away as I could.
Since I’ve left, my life has been simple—peaceful and still.
I had no intention of ever returning to Skull Creek.
Until tragedy struck and I was called back.
It’s been two years since I saw my step-brother.
I hoped he had changed.
But the devil is still the same.
He’s arrogant and ruthless.
Rules the town with an iron fist.
Where he walks, crowds part.
Now his blame is set on me, along with his dark orbs of hate.
It’s time to show him I’m not the same girl I was back then.
If he pushes, I’ll push harder.
Where I bend, he will break.
As long as he doesn’t find my weakness, I can survive this.
Even if my weakness has become the devil himself.
Devil Heir Reviews

My step-out-of-comfort-zone advanture continues and this time, I bump into a shitty ass road.
Now ask yourself this question, would you fall in love with someone who cruelly bullies you because he's a waste of human-space.
This guy treats you like dirt beneath his shoes, calls your virginal ass a whore and your mom a bitch, humiliates you in front of everyone then let all those assholes have fun bullying you. Sans let’s not forget said guy also parades women he fucked or will fuck around just to rub it in your face.
Would you be able to forgive let alone fall in love with this micro-dick asshole ?
I certainly wouldn’t.
What he did is UNFORGIVABLE and no amount of groveling can erase it. Even if he crawled through lava on his hands and knees I wouldn't forgive him.
Now I’m pretty sure some folks will say that I should keep reading before I make final judgment.
I tried alright. But you know what, self-love is a thing and apprently I love myself enough to stop reading this before it causes me any mental damage.
To be honest, I couldn’t careless for these characters. I'll take a wild guess that she will EVENTUALLY end up with this God's gift to women (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) and that’s not a HEA I want for this book. -
2.5 stars.
I didn’t really like this I’m afraid. I found Penny and Blaise hard to root for and generally unlikeable. There are a lot of heavy topics that are brushed over and dealt with poorly in my opinion. Richard’s creepy gross behaviour, Chase - there are no ramifications for any of those actions and that doesn’t sit right with me. It’s never reported or disclosed to any adult that would actually do something about it.
Blaise is no better than Chase, he makes a “deal” just like Chase did to get a blowjob even knowing Penny’s history. I really don’t care if it was playful it was in poor taste and a total dick move. The fact that he beats everyone up but willingly aligns himself with those assholes makes no sense and the “secret” he was keeping was not worth it at all. In fact it was just Penelope getting caught in Blaise’s crossfire again. He starts all of her problems, gets people to pick on her, torture her, stay away from her, the fire was all about him too.
She should have stayed in Portland. -

Plot Summary :
Penny's life had never been easy. Not when she was fifteen and certainly not now. The root cause of her misery has always been one person. The devil who has been acquainted with her since she was a child. Blaise. All he knows is hurting her and there is nothing he won't do to cause her misery. He loves her tears, loves her humiliation. That is until one night things go out of control and Penny is pushed too far.
Now it's been years since she ran away from her home because of the devil who was hell bent on ruining her. But now the time for running has come to an end. Circumstances bring her back home. Back in the arms of the devil who has been waiting for her ever since. He is ready to destroy her once again but this time things will be different. This time Penny will beat him at his own game.
Overall Opinion :
Blaise and Penny's story was amazing! Although I always wish that this author makes her heroes pay a bit more in each of her books, yeah I am somewhat satisfied with her theories. This one was good and I was hooked right from the start and couldn't let go until the very end. Ever since I read the first half of this book a while ago in an anthology, I have been crazily waiting for more! And I am so excited to say that I have finished it all and it was so good. The heroes this author creates are someone I always love, I highlight their scenes like crazy because omg, I can never get enough of their cruel bullying mouths 🤣.
This one was a full length standalone, with a nice ending. I saw that twist coming but still it was good. Definitely recommending it to all the stepbrother bulky romance loving people out there.

This was a rocket-fast-paced dark-ish romance. A lot happens in this book under the span of less than 300 pages. I liked the heroine, but she was somewhat inconsistent. Generally, I appreciate this realism–she wants to be strong, but she reverts back to her weaker ways. But in this case, her back and forth (and the back and forth of the bullying and doting of the love interest) gave me whiplash. When I started this book, I felt like I was being dropped into the middle of a story–which I was. I think the storyline might have benefited from having dual timelines and being longer–because then we could have gotten to know all the characters as they got to know each other, instead of having a brief prologue followed immediately by present day, with occasional flashbacks. I think the storyline would have flowed better and I would have maybe understood Blaise and Penelope’s tumultuous relationship a little better.
All that said, I think this book could have easily been a duology or a trilogy, with all the content and all the great twists in the plot!
Trigger warnings
HEA? -
Penny and Blaise’s story was so good! Penny’s transformation her character growth was amazing I love Blaise he’s the perfect broody alpha hole the chemistry between these two was explosive you could feel the heat burning from the pages ! I loved that we got a closer glimpse as to why Blaise did some of the things he did Rachel Leigh definitely satisfied me with this story I loved the comeback Penny makes this was such a good story it’s emotional it’s steamy and a little forbidden I really enjoyed this one!

(Groan...) I so regret reading this!!!
I think the h so far is the most unlikable h I've come across. She is an idiot (not blaming her), stupid and not just a doormat but a total waste of space. The H is no better! -

Skulls Creek is full of darkness & cruelty. Add in the devil himself and BAM you're in for some dark twists and turns! But holyguacamole Pen & Blaise's have some *hot damn* serious love hate chemistry and it will reel you in from 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞!
-----------
Behind the games and the bullying is a underlying motive that pushes and pulls you in different directions. I love the spooky and mysterious feel this book has that laces its pages too.

Edited:
Once again Rachel has me hooked, I have strayed away from reading high school bully books but Rach is one of the three authors who can capture my attention with her stories.
Penny never fit in anywhere and when her mum remarried and they moved to Skull Creek it was no different especially with her step brother Blaise making her life miserable.
Two years ago Penny left Skull Creek and never looked back, now she has to return for one week and she is wondering will she be able to survive.
We now have the full book and what a ride this was. Penny & Blaise are fire and I am so glad Penny returned to Skull Creek to get revenge on everyone that bullied her. Penny & Blaise are end game and it was great to finish the story of how they got there. -
Weak heroine
It’s very obvious by the one star that this is going to be not a very flattering review so, if you don’t like it stop here.
I am so annoyed that I wasted so much time in this piece of rubbish! Why oh why do I do this to myself? I make myself finish every book I stumbled on… that is not a problem when the book has some type of character building and a female main character that is not weak and stupid. I even will settle for interesting characters that at least make me laugh. I am sorry to say that I do not recommend. -
this was so cute
-
This is another example of why I can't trust reviews on Goodreads, if this book is a five stars read I don't know what garbage you have read before.
The story doesn't make sense and the characters are awful, even a doormat is better than the heroine of this book. She is a crybaby who is so delusional to think to be a strong woman, please!
It's the first time I hate a character so bad!
Hate every single page, I mean, I love some trashy read from time to time, but this is even worse.
Spare your time and money, and please if you're here from Booktok it's time to think about doing something better with your time. -
lol, what can I say i'm trash for a step-bro bully romance🤪
the ending was rushed as was the revenge and fall-out -
Calling all stepbrother romance lovers! Devil Heir by Rachel Leigh is a sexy, adrenaline filled and emotional enemies to lovers romance. The tension and angst of forbidden love combined with twists and turns made it an irresistible read!
.
Penelope has reluctantly moved to Skull Creek at fourteen years of age when her mother gets married to Richard Hale, a rich and powerful businessman. His son, Blaise has made it his mission to make her life as much miserable as possible and he rules the school with his minions. Then the devil's night party arrives and she almost lost her life but Blaise saved her. But why? Is he really a savior or a liar? She left then and She is coming back to the town at eighteen years of age. This is the time for answers and retribution and to find out what this electrifying chemistry is.
.
I liked how the story spans across years and we get to see so many shades of the characters. Blaise is superficially the typical c0cky boy who rules and manipulates and hurts. But he has another side. And the author kept the mystery till the last page. Penelope is a beautiful character. She was bullied and played and hurt but she kept on getting up. She may be innocent and sweet but she developed a strong and fierce side. Blaise and Penelope went back and forth. There are so many mind games and secrets and deceptions. Blaise showed that he hate Penelope but he silently cares for her and Penelope doesn't understand why she is attracted to her nemesis. There are a lot of ups and downs and I was completely immersed in the story.
.
Rachel Leigh brings another heartfelt and sinful bully romance and her writing was just amazing!.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily -
RACHEL! Where have you been hiding Penelope and Blaise!! All I have to say is 🥵🥵🥵
I love Penny and I loved seeing her grow into who she is by the end of this novella. She isn't the same girl that left Skull Creek two years ago. Blaise is everything I love in an antihero. He's broody and moody and a little alphahole-ish. The steam between the two is 🤌 🤌 🤌
This part of my review is going to pick up the second half of Devil Heir, this was not in the anthology.
Penny is EVERYTHING!! I freaking love her! She is standing her ground and straightening that crown! I was cheering her on from the moment she stepped back into Skull Creek.
The second half is just as steamy as the first one. I love how possessive Blaise is! The plot is also fast paced and held me on the edge of my seat wondering what secrets she was going to uncover.
In the process of her getting her revenge and taking back her life, the biggest twist is thrown in your face. I totally want expecting it and I am SHOCKED!! I absolutely loved this book so much!! -
Rating 4.5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
Devil Heir is the kickstarter to Rachel Leigh new series. Devil Heir is a Bully YA Romance it's the first part of the duet of Blaise, and Penelope story......gahhhh I didn't realize it was going to end up in a cliffy, but it was so, so good. Blaise and Penelope become stepsiblings when their parents get married, and for some reason Blaise right from the start doesn't like her at all poorthing my heart breaks for her. This started the abuse, bully the angst and rawness in this story is gripping, of course had me bawling my eyes out. I already dislike Miss L. and a few others. I do Like a couple others. I'm all in for this crazy rollercoaster ride that Rachel loves to give us 😘. Give me more!!!
If you liked her last series, and her book Like Hate, you will definitely love this series, it has that same feels to me!!!
I can't wait for the 2nd part of their story, and all the others to come. It's kicka$$ Penelope coming back to town to give them some payback baby 🙌🙌 .
It's told in 1st person, dual POV. It ends in a cliffhanger part two is coming in December.
ARC giving by Author. My review is given voluntarily. -
I loved this book and I seriously can't get enough of Penny & Blaise. He was such a jerk and she was the shy picked on girl that came back with vengeance on the brain, which I was 100% on board for!
Blaise was horrible to Penny, from their first meetings he made her aware he didn't want her there and he pretty much ruined her social life for years. One horrible event sends her running and she hasn't looked back since. Now she's forced to come back for 1 week but she's not that same weak little girl that left. She's ready to show her old peers at Skull Creek that she's not going to be pushed around and they absolutely plan to test her.
I'm gonna be honest.. I hated Blaise for a while, even though I knew that he must have his reasons for being the way he was. He was cruel to Penny at the beginning, I honestly wanted to reach into the book and give him Gibb Slap. Luckily he eventually pulled his head out of his butt and we got to see that softer side he reserved for his Penny Pie. I loved Penny, and I'm so glad she really came into her own by the end of the story. The more her peers tried to knock her down, the more she pushed back too. She didn't cower, she got creative and her determination was everything!
This story is told between flashbacks and current day, which I don't always love but I thought the author did an amazing job! I felt she dropped the right amount of snippets at the best times and it really helped to build up the suspense around who was behind the events that caused Penny to run. The amount of twists and turns in this story had me glued to my phone, like to the point I was reading it every chance I had.. and I mean every chance. If I was walking to another room, taking a break, waiting for my computer to reboot... I was on my phone/kindle reading.
The plot was fantastic, the chemistry was off the charts and the side characters were awesome. I would gladly read more from this world if the author ever choses to write it. I would absolutely recommend this to fellow bully romance lovers
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. -
Devils Heir
Good stepbrother bully read from Rachel Leigh.
I especially liked how Penelope left and came back stronger, ready to deal with those who had caused her grief.
Great ending too, with the characters moving on to the next step of their lives and still letting them be teenagers, each living on their own and not getting into living together and adulting too soon.
The book carried at a nice pace, not getting bogged down in unnecessary details and keeping focus on the main characters. -
3.5 stars
My thoughts and feelings are scattered with this book. Initially i wasn't a fan of our doormat h and then she kinda develops a spine around 61%. But then the great secret that was revealed as to why H kept pushing her out of town felt anti climatic to me. I need to keep in mind that it's high school setting and things/secrets are much more dramatic at that age 🤷🏽♀️ -
felt like i was reading a 2019-2020 wattpad fanfic, im sorry i did not enjoy it. some parts were hot but like not like to the point where i would fall IN LOVE with the character
-
Thank you, Rachel Leigh, for reminding me why I love reading stepbrother romance so much.
But stepsiblings who hate each other but secretly have feelings for each other? MF’ing kryptonite! -
I thought this book had potential but it got progressively worse.
Penelope was a doormat, she pissed me off a lot. Why would she go to a party where all her classmates, who tormented her, would be there. Also, Penelope said she had changed but let people treat her awfully when she came back to Richard's funeral.
Blaise never really asked for forgiveness for all the things he did to Penelope, so he's still an as*hole to me. He said that he was trying to protect Penelope, but why? He was responsible for people being extremely nasty to her.
I would like to say that Emery was the absolute worst friend ever.
A lot of things weren't acknowledged in the book that I thought that should have been talked about. I do like bully/enemies to lovers books but I can't say I liked this one. -
Wow! Devil Heir was a fantastic read! I have never read anything from Rachel, but that is about to change. This story was a gritty and dark high school bully romance. I devoured this book in one day.
"Why do I feel like I'm under some sort of spell? Being near him, in this house, it's mind-altering. I hate Blaise. So why do I melt at his feet?"
Penelope moved to Skull Creek with her mother when she married Richard Hale, her new stepfather. Along with a new stepfather, she also gains a new stepbrother, Blaise, the devil himself, and makes it his mission to ruin her life and torment her. She attends Skull Creek Academy, where Blaise makes her life miserable with his crew. Something tragic happens at the devil's night party that changes Blaise and Penny's life forever, causing Penny to flee and run to Portland to live with her dad.
"Oh, God," I cry out. My arousal drips into the palm of his hand.
Richard, her stepfather, dies, bringing Penny back to Skull creek. This time, she is back for revenge and unanswered questions and exploring the thrilling intense chemistry with Blaise.
"Okay. Maybe someday we'll stop pretending that there's nothing between us and show the world we're unbreakable."
This book takes you on one hell of an emotional ride. Devil Heir is an enemies-to-lovers book with a lot of angst and a plot twist that you don't see coming. I recommend this book to anyone who loves high school bully romances. -
Dark, intense and full of angst, Devil Heir is a captivating read.
Full of insane twists, dark depravity and steam and with a constant air of foreboding, not knowing who to trust and what's to come next, this story had me on the edge of my seat. With so many mixed signals and feelings, nothing is as it initially seems.
I loved Blaise and Pen's interactions. Getting to see these characters grow, with Penelope learning to stand up for herself and Blaise revaluing his priorities and where he stands, there is so much more to those two than meets the eye.
Bursting with tension, drama, suspense and scorching hot chemistry, I loved getting a glimpse into Skull Creek and I can't wait for more.
5 stars and a mask -
stepbrother!!!!
3.75/5
I love Rachel Leigh. I love her male characters and that the books are easy to read and quick! I love when her FMC find that spine and stand firm.
I’m a sucker for stepbrother romance, an absolute favorite for me.

“Running away isn’t what I’m doing. More like, leaving the past where it belongs.”
— Devil Heir: A Stepbrother Bully Romance by Rachel Leigh
•
This story started off so strong for me in the anthology it was featured in.
I loved Penny and I couldn’t wait to find out more about her and what happened to make her go to Portland (where she should have stayed!).
I did enjoy Blaise, but I feel like the end was rushed and the payback wasn’t enough.
All that said, I still love Rachel Leigh and she won’t release a book that I won’t grab! -
I am her kryptonite and she is mine.
📚This is why she has to hate me. It’s why I can’t love her like I want to.📚
If an author’s spidey senses were going off every time a reader was growling at them, cursing at them or yelling curse words at their kindle then Rachel Leigh’s would be going crazy all day.
This book made me do all the above and when revelations came to light at the end, I was already ready to flip back to the beginning and see every action in new light. Don’t get me wrong Blaise is such a 😳$&!# but sometimes we’re willing to go to the ends of the earth to protect the ones we love. -
This is another story from the Anthology from Brutal Boys On Devils night. This one is called Devil Heir By Rachel Leigh.
I love all of Rachel’s books I have read, so I knew I was going to love this one. I loved it, but it made me so mad how Blaise could treat his stepsister Penelope like he did and make the whole school hate her at the same time. I really didn’t like the guy and I so wish Pen stood up to him & his horrible friends more! She is such a lovely girl and didn’t deserve to be treated the way she was. I was screaming at my phone a lot while reading this story. I loved the ending and I can’t wait to see the other side of Pen, where she stands up to them all. I really hope she makes Blaise grovel, for what happened to her over the years.
If you love Bully/stepbrother Romance, you’ll love their story. -
Enjoyable Bully Romance
I'm new to Rachel Leigh's solo books, and although there are times I find myself over the bully trope, I do still read them occasionally. Nostalgia, you know.
I quite enjoyed this one. Yes, it's got many similarities (as all tropes tend to) to other bully books, but also a couple of surprises.
You could feel the character's emotions, and and although I was left with a few questions, I enjoyed it overall.
I will definitely check out more of the author's books. -
4.5⭐️'s
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book in one day. I devoured this one. I didn’t really like the side characters I wanted to punch them all in the face but then I remembered, I’m reading a bully book of course I won’t like them. After reading so much Insta love back to back this was a nice change of pace. Did these characters do some questionable things hell yea they did and I ate it right up. When I read, I read to escape and use my imagination. Plus I love me good step brother romance. Can’t wait to read more form this author -
I wanted to to give this 5 stars, and it got close because I ended up loving the story.
A few cringeworthy moments in the beginning made me knock it down to the 4 stars. That being said, the story wouldn’t really be the story without those moments.
I love this author and will always pick up her books to read!
