Strange markings are found on her body: a shallow cut made by a Stanley knife from hairline to navel.
Then another young woman is found in a river just outside town. She was strangled before being dumped in the river and her body is marked in the same way.
A third victim with the same MO. Now Chief Inspector Jim Ashworth knows he has a serial killer on his hands and it's a race against time to stop him.
A Slice of Murder (Detective Jim Ashworth #8) Reviews
-
The eighth book in this series is excellent. Such a shame though that at the end you don't find out what happened to the suspected villains. It's as if there were supposed to be more in the series but we will never find out as this book was published in 1998 which is when the author passed away.

3.5 Stars
A Slice of Murder is the eighth book in the Detective Jim Ashworth series by Brian Battison. It is a British Detective series that follows the investigations of Chief Inspector Jim Ashworth. With crime and investigation, mystery, suspense, interesting cases/scenarios, tension, intrigue, and a bit of a whodunnit feel.
Another serial killer and a race against time to capture him before more victims turn up dead.
Inspector Ainsworth is a bit of an ‘old-school’ detective, dedicated to his job, which involves many and varied investigations- from serial killers to pedophile rings, as well as dealing with gangsters, drug dealers, and even an extortionist. He is thrust into situations where he is in a race against time to uncover the truth, while personal dramas play out in the midst of it all.
Happy Reading…
Thank you, Brian Battison! -

A body is discovered in an ice covered lake, that of prostitute Julie Stevens, but she will not be the last. That coupled with problems on the local council estate keep DCI Jim Ashworth and the rest of the police station busy.
An entertaining modern mystery.

Ashworth investigates the murders of three women.
This is a typically fast paced story with plenty of suspense and tension from Battison -he doesn't waste a single word. The town seems to have grown in size since the earlier books, but that could be me, as I'm loathe to say anything derogatory about this finely written series of books. A great shame Battison died so young, some great characters in this series who I'd liked to have followed further. -
A brilliant story.
I really enjoy this series about Detective Jim Ashworth and his team. The characters are all likeable and the stories gritty and with a twist.
