If you want to be in the c-suite, don’t fall for a social worker.

When Sophia Vaca’s family immigrated from Ecuador to the U.S. many people helped them along their way. Her parents taught her to always pay every kindness forward. On the verge of completing college with a degree in social work, her mind is filled with dreams for the future despite the sometimes grim realities of her chosen field.

Lacie Lindly has her eye on the Chief Technology Officer position at the Denver tech company where she works. She’s not about to let the fallout from a night of indiscretion that resulted in charges and court ordered community service stop her climb up the tech side of the corporate ladder.

When Lacie is ordered by the judge assigned to her case to finish her time at the community center where Sophia works without pay, the two clash over their differing ideals right away. Sophia sees a jaded older woman. Lacie sees the misguided idealism of youth.

Both women quickly realize they’ll need to work together to get the struggling center and the children it serves through the holidays. Around the day-to-day grind, they make plans to introduce the center to the greater Denver community and to give the kids and their families a Christmas to remember. The only thing they didn’t plan on was falling in love.

Misfit Christmas: A Colorado Holiday Romance Reviews

  • Anna Avian

A short holiday novel that for me was lacking substance, depth and genuine chemistry between the characters. The two MC's were just magically drawn to each other and I missed the moment when that connection occurred or why it did in the first place. Lacey just jumped from "no relationships, my job comes first" to "I only want her" and not even taking that dream job in the end. It all just felt off.

‘Misfit Christmas’ by Anne Hagan is a lovely Christmas themed romance. Sophia is a social work student who volunteers time at a recreation centre in Denver, helping disadvantaged kids. When Lacie is sent there to finish her community service the pair clash. It appears they have different ideas about how things should be done, and about life in general. But they both realise that they are there to help the kids and that must come first. Will the magic of Christmas bring them together and will they be able to give the community a holiday to remember?

I enjoyed finding out about the community they were helping. It brought into focus the true meaning of Christmas. Seeing the women change and realise what they wanted in life was sweet and romantic. But ultimately it was about being honest and being true to oneself. About accepting love and happiness. A perfect Christmas read.

I was given this ARC for review.

An interesting story that bubbled along, never hitting heights but fine and dandy. Perhaps I should add twee?

This is a sweet romance between two very different people. Sophia is in her 20s, wants to be a social worker, lives with her parents and works at a community center as well as a ranch hand for her dad. Ambitious Lacey is in her 40s and striving to be promoted at her tech company, but a mishap means she has to do community service at the same center where Sophia works. They have different goals, aren’t sure of each other, but both want to help the kids. Despite many obstacles, from money to families to insecurities and other mishaps, the two women are drawn together. This is a wonderful Christmas story.

    Christmastime

This book takes you from Thanksgiving preparations to Christmas day. Celebrations to prepare for and community service to complete by year end. The chemistry is strong. Minimal angst. Good ending. Definitely a read for each holiday season.

Anne Hagan's romance fits nicely on the Christmas reading list. Infused with warmth, unexpected attraction, doubts, humor and romance, I was quickly drawn in from the start by the lead characters Sofia and Lacie. The Rec. Center is central to the neighborhood and provides a safe haven, creative outlet and life lessons to at risk youth but is always struggling with funding and on the verge of closing. Sofia (a social worker student) is a loved, long time unpaid volunteer and Lacie (data analyst) is there for forced community service but only Will (Director) knows that. The two women sense a growing attraction but the age gap, external pressures, career focus and half truths complicate matters. Brittany, Kendal, Will, Clevon, Maya and Heaven shine in the supporting cast. Lessons are learned that open hearts, trust and belief in human change gives love room to grow. Throw in Judge Hildalgo, a career on the line, a vengeful ex, the race for funding and admitted lies and I so looked forward to a HEA. A timely romantic tale for the season and one I easily recommend.

I rec'd a copy from the author and this is a completely voluntary and unbiased review.

Lacie and Sophia meet under unusual circumstances. The plot is wonderful and heart warming. The characters are very good and show their differences well. The emotions are range from good to bad. This Christmas story has a good message and I really enjoyed reading the story. There is an age difference between Lacie and Sophia that comes into play plus the fact that Sophia is afraid of what her mother thinks about her love choice. Both characters make life changers and for the better.
I recommend this book for romance and Christmas readers.

This is a nice story about Christmas goodwill and how it can change someone. Sophia has been taught by her parents to help people, so she works at a centre for children. Lacie has got to serve community service and has been sent to this centre. What starts out as a punishment for Lacie, turns into changing herself and falling in love. Well written, with an easy storyline I’m sure you all will enjoy.

2.5/5. An okay read. Not the best, but not the worst either. I felt no chemistry between the MC’s and I thought the writing lacked a lot. Not sure if Kindle messed up the font, but the weird double spaces between paragraphs when switching scenes always pulled me out of the story. I tried to get into this story, but it just fell flat for me.

Good start. It's a holiday book but not fuzzy, cutesy or schmalzy. It’s a solid 3 stars. No major angst, if you don’t include the reality of some young peoples lives. There is the typical romance arc, and as you would expect with a feel good holiday story, it’s all wrapped up nicely in the end.

Definitely a story for holidays - giving and doing for others was the key part of this book. I just never believed the romance...even with trying to extend the same suspension of belief many romances require.

    A great read

This was great. I really enjoyed the progression of Lacie and Sophia. They both came a long was and ended up being all the better for it.

  • Amber

    Really good story!

    Age gap not my thing

There’s an 18-year age gap in this book and that’s not my thing. However, the community center storyline and family really made it a good book.

  • Cherrie

Has some cute/wholesome moments. Did not like the writing style and the character development is unconvincing.
