On his way to reestablish an old alliance, Tristan Okora, king of the dragon shifters, discovers a beautiful human female aboard an enemy vessel. He offers his protection until she can be safely returned to Earth. But the more time he spends with Juniper Jacobs, the faster he falls for the little mortal.
Meanwhile, amidst the trouble brewing in his kingdom—a terrible rumor that threatens his crown—Tristan must make a difficult decision; accept an arranged marriage with a neighboring princess, or risk everything for the beguiling human.
TEMPTING THE DRAGON KING is the first book in this Shadow Quest spin-off series Dragon Lords. And while this series will focus on hunky dragon shifters, humans, and witches, there will be plenty of cameos from the original series.
Tempting The Dragon King (Dragon Lords, #1) Reviews
-
Tempting the Dragon King by Kiersten Fay brings action, suspense, and engaging characters to this science fiction paranormal romantic suspense novel that is the first book in the Dragon Lords series. It’s set in the same world as the Shadow Quest series, but each book can be read as a standalone. Tristan Okora is the new king of the dragon shifters. As he is traveling to renew an old alliance, he and his team discover a human female aboard an enemy ship. Juniper Jacobs was hiking in New York when she saw metal glinting in the woods. When she entered the spacecraft, it took off with her inside it. Tristan offers her protection until he can return her to Earth. However, there’s trouble in his kingdom.
Tristan and Juniper are both likeable characters. They are strong in their own ways, but also have vulnerabilities which make them more relatable. There’s a strong cast of secondary characters as well. With humans, witches, dragon shifters, aliens, fairies, and others, the book brings together a strong mix of individuals. Who will be featured in the next book in the series?
The author paints a vivid picture throughout the book without interrupting the fast pace. There are aerial battles, physical fights, steamy scenes, magic, and much more to keep the reader turning the pages. There are a few unanswered questions that could be threads leading to future novels. Difficult pasts, family, romance, love, humor, domestic abuse, child abuse, friendships, honor, grief, duty, resilience, and bravery are integral parts of the story line.
Overall, the novel was action packed, emotional, steamy, and entertaining. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series as well as reading more of the Shadow Quest books. -

This was an interesting fantasy/romance book. I'm not quite sure what I just read, but I'm not mad at it.
Juniper is hiking on earth and stumbles onto something she thinks is a cave but turns out to be an alien spacecraft. As she investigates, the ship takes off and shes hurled into space. Unable to understand the controls, and with no food or water left, she is resigned to dying on the ship. Tristan is the new king of his clan of dragon shifters. When he sees the ship of his enemy flying at his ship, he disables it and boards, expecting to fight his enemy.
When Tristan and Juniper see each other, sparks fly. The two eventually get together, but can their relationship last when he lives for centuries and she is mortal? Well, it's a romance book, so what do you think?
This was a quick and easy read. It was a bit jarring to have a contemporary woman from earth making pop culture references while talking to a man that can transform into a dragon while they fly on a space ship? Huh? How did the author dream that up? It's also strange that Tristan appears human and has all human characteristics (because how else would they have all the sex, right?) but can morph into a huge dragon. Perhaps this is not so weird. It is, after all, my first venture into a dragon, paranormal, romance book. Who knew? :-)
In any event, this was actually a fun book to read. It's all fluff and escapism, but who doesn't need that once in awhile?
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. -
Tristan inherited the throne when his father was killed by an enemy they hate. He's not comfortable with his new title yet and he needs to form an alliance with a female he hardly know because mating with her will strengthen his throne and position even if he's not looking forward to it.
Juniper is from Earth but while out on a hike one day stumbles onto an alien ship and when it takes off for outer space she thinks her days are numbered. When Tristan's ship starts firing at her because she on the type of ship that killed his father, she thinks times up and she's going to die.
Tristan is a dragon shifter, he finds Juniper (June) on a ship and agrees to take her back to Earth but there's something about her that attracts him to her the more time they spend together. She's like a kid seeing all these new things for the first time and Tristan likes watching her experience his world for the first time.
The longer they spend together, the more time Tristan wants to spend with her but he knows that he'll have to give her up at some point and he's not looking forward to that. But they spend more and more time together which some of the staff don't like because she's human I guess. But that doesn't stop the fireworks from going off every time they're together. There's a small amount of his people that believe a rumor that Tristan had something to do with his father's death which causes a big problem from which a huge twist is thrown at us. It was a good twist though and I didn't see it coming or the after effects of what would happen because of it.
I do love this author's books and I will keep reading them as long as she writes them.
Disclosure: I was given an ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own. -
Ok confession time here because I actually read the follow up to this Seduced By The Dragon Lord first without realising that this was available. Frankly I wasn't as enamoured with it as I'd hoped but realise now that this isn't meant to be a sci fi romance series but actually a paranormal romance that just happens to happen on another world so more like Dragon Lords by Michelle M Pillow.
This book pairs up newly crowned King Tristan with June who accidentally triggered an abandoned alien space ship on Earth. She's clearly worried but adapts very quickly to the idea of aliens that can become Dragon's. Tristan is still struggling to come to terms with the recent loss of his father and knows that there's the beginnings of unrest amongst some of his subjects. Luckily June provides a huge distraction but not everyone is pleased about her arrival !
This was an easy, quick and entertaining read for me and actually connects to the Shadow Quest series which was my first read by this author. I did like most of the characters here but will say that for me it was June who stood out the most and made me smile. She's such a feisty, bold person although there is sadness in her background which gave her a well rounded personality. There is a little action here but I think it's predominantly about the relationship that this couple form. Yes there's friction, tension and treachery here too , not to forget meddling relatives ! This is a passionate romance involving Dragons, Witches and even adorable children and I very much enjoyed this story.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair -
If one enjoys light science fiction romance and is looking for a fun, steamy escape for a few hours, look no further! Triston and Juniper are delightful characters. Each come with their own baggage that needs to be sorted but find an attraction that can’t be denied. I especially enjoyed the scene where they meet. Juniper has accidentally found herself in a space ship she has no idea how to commandeer, with no food and is looking at a slow death floating through outer-space. Tristan sees the ship as a hated enemy fighter who needs to be destroyed. What follows is absolutely delightful as each tries to unravel all the confusion!
I would love to have seen more depth in the story, especially in the characters, as everything stays pretty much surface only throughout the book. I’m not sure that isn’t intentional, however. Sometimes reading something where one doesn’t have to think that much, but only relax and enjoy might be just what the author wanted. If so, she succeeded in spades because for a light fun other-worldly romp, this one is an absolute winner. -
I loved it! This book is well written but the scene with June making her transition was riveting. It was so good I went back and read it again. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and freely leave this honest review.

Tempting the Dragon King is the first book in the Dragon Lords series and a spin-off of Fay’s Shadow Quest series. King Tristan Okora, a “drop-dead gorgeous hottie with a lick-worthy physique,” is an alien/dragon shifter who rescues June, a human, after she becomes trapped in an alien ship and hurtles across space.
Near starving and desperate, June is relieved to be rescued by Tristan and his kind mother and even more relieved when they promise to return her to Earth. However, the more time Tristan and June spend together, the more they fall for each other. Will June return to Earth, or will Tristan convince her that she’s meant to stay with him?
This romance is steamy!! Tristan is so enamored by June, and he finds her intoxicating to the point where he has trouble keeping his hands off of her. June is equally enamored with Tristan. However, she has no long-term expectations, unlike Tristan.
June, a victim of childhood domestic abuse who has suffered much tragedy and loss in her life, is not as quick to trust and fall in love, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying what they have. Since she has never really experienced love, she isn’t as quick to admit her feelings. Tristan has been surrounded by love for his entire life and expresses these feelings much easier. He realizes quickly that it’ll take some work and time to convince June that her place is by his side.
What I love about their relationship, besides the piping hot sex, is that they support each other, physically and emotionally, from the start of their relationship. Both Tristan and June feel a tremendous amount of guilt for losses in their family – Tristan over the death of his father, and June over the death of her mother and brother. The shared grief and guilt connect them and draws them closer. They understand each other in a way that others don’t.
The quick and humorous banter throughout the story is also a delight to read. Tristan’s mother is fabulous, as is his best friend. Tristan and June also have some comical conversations especially when her curiosity gets the better of her. I love how Tristan and June bring out the best in each other and those close to them support their blossoming love.
Another aspect of the story I like is the interesting world-building. The story takes place across several planets, each with different beings, cultures, creatures, and communities. Fay’s skill in developing such vivid and immersive worlds is a highlight of the novel, and I hope to learn more about them in the rest of the series.
In addition to the love story, several other conflicts transpire. Tristan is a newly appointed king with rumored dissension on his planet. False accusations relating to his father’s death haunt him, and a potential fiancee (hate her!) waits for his proposal. On top of that, there are conflicts with mysterious witches who live on his planet. These sub-plots become significant as the plot progresses and add a bit of suspense and action to the story.
This is a quick-paced and fun read about two lost souls who make each other whole again. I enjoyed Tristan and June’s love story and look forward to reading more of the series. Plus, the dragon scenes are really cool! Thanks to the author and Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. -
Tempting The Dragon King is one of those weird reads. That though not perfect in a literary sense. Has just the right blend of likable characters, uncomplicated plot, and simple readability. That the pages just keep turning.
Tristan Okora is doing his best to heal from the heart-shattering loss of his father. While taking on the momentous task of ruling the Clan that bears his name.
When his life takes what is destined to be the strangest and most life altering turn of all.
The day that he meets and falls in lust with Juniper Jacobs.
All Earth-born.
All mortal.
And nothing like any female that he has ever met.
As for Juniper...
All she knows is that an innocent walk in the woods led to the discovery of the strange craft which she now found herself aboard.
Well...a walk, an incurable curiosity, and the mistake of pushing a button that she hadn't known would trigger a pre-programmed flight to an alien planet.
But...
C'est la vie...and all that.
For now, our girl June has got far bigger.
And as luck would have it, brawnier problems.
The least of which.
The gorgeous man standing in front of her with a weapon. That he has no problem using. If she doesn't give him answers to questions that she:
1. Doesn't quite understand.
2. Doesn't have answers for.
And then there is...Tristan.
Stuck for several reasons between several rocks and at least one too many hard places.
1. Dealing with his guilt about the death of his father.
2. Assuming the duties of a throne and clan politics that he never wanted.
3. A betrothal to the daughter of an allied clan.
4. The discovery of a scantly Earthing in an enemy ship.
5. His attraction to said Earthling
And so much more...
The story told in Tempting The Dragon King reads a lot like a Contemporary Romance.
At least as far as the romance between June And Tristan goes.
The rest is purely Fantasy.
Well...Tristan's part, at least.
June is just a simple human.
Nothing special, really.
Just a lot of compassion and pluck.
And an equally sad backstory.
Tristan and his people are where all the world-building and interesting nuance take place.
But somehow...it all seems to work.
In large part because it is very clear from the start that this is intended to be a light read.
And is...when all is said and done, home to a very sweet HEA -
So when a book puts tears in my eyes I feel some type of way. I mean you don’t have to make a bih cry to make me like your book. Dang!
But here you went all out and did it.
I really like Tristan and June just so go together. Lots of action, some drama, and a few sexy times! This is so worth the price of this book! Grab it. Don’t read any other reviews but this one and get this book. S/N this is a spinoff to another series didn’t know that when I requested this book. Anywho, it doesn’t matter you will understand everything that is going on. One bad bih thought she was badder than another bigger better bad bih (June) learned her lesson from messing with her.
So yeah 5 stars is what this book needs. Especially, when your love of your life murders anyone that would try to harm you. Just gives you some feels. When he said, “ execute them and bring me their heads!” I was like this is true to the bone love!

Dragons In Space
Excellent start to this spin-off series. This is the first book in the Dragon Lords series and I can tell it’s gonna be great.
Tristan Okora is king of the dragons. June Jacobs was trapped on a spaceship and is trying to get back to Earth when she is rescued by Tristan.
Instant attraction, great character interaction and super sexy. Alpha male and a strong female make this a enjoyable escape.
Looking forward to more from this author.
*I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing* -
This is the first of the Dragon Lords series, a spin-off of the Fay's Shadow quest. This is King Tristan Okora's story, a dragon/alien shifter and June a human trapped in the ship. I love the romance and steamy scenes in the story, definitely like the emotional side of it all and how family losses brings them together. I like the plot line, it intrigued me with the mystery and suspense behind it, there is a lot going on and I can't wait to find out in the next books.

Great spin-off from the Shadow Quest series.
Tristan helped free Kyra and her sisters' world, Faieara, in
The Demon's Retribution. Krya and him had a fling when they were "teenagers." Juniper/June stumbles onto one of the bad guys, Kayadon (who are seriously creepy), ships that was abandoned on earth, she pushes a button, and off she goes to Faieara. Tristan rescues her and they fall in love. I loved his mother. She was great. There's a bad guy trying to get rid of June when they see them falling for each other.
Now, the teaser for the next book has another Earthling doing the same thing. I hope all the books don't start that way. Maybe one of the brother's can hook up with a witchling on their world. I'm also hoping for Aiden's book and the Phase Nine race. -
This is the first book in a spin off from the Shadow Quest series. King Tristan Okora is an alien dragon. June is a human who gets trapped on a space ship. Tristan saves her and promises to take her back to Earth. They spend alot of time together and start to get to know each other and there is so much heat! I won't go into details but if you have ever read one of Fay's book then you know there is going to be some steam!
I really enjoyed this book. I think the world building is great and the characters are amazing. I am looking forward to the next book! -

Review:
Okay so, Scottish sounding Dragons, witchy-peeps, what I think are the space equivalent of Fae.... all in space. I feel like I’m in a drunk dream. The story is a spin-off from another series (full disclosure- I haven’t read) but that doesn’t detract from the story. The sexual tension is there from the off, it’s easy to follow and a good palate cleanser for when you’ve just finished up a super deep/heavy fantasy read.
It was sexy, quirky and definitely enjoyable. The characters were likeable and relatable. June had a lot of emotional baggage she had to overcome so it was nice to see her let her guard down. Tristan carried around a lot of guilt, it was nice to see a male lead that wasn’t all dark and brooding and obnoxiously perfect.
That being said, the book could definitely benefit from another round of editing, there were a lot of typos and a few inconsistencies (Tristans eye colour changed from Gray to Green) which hindered the flow of the book slightly.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend Tempting the Dragon King for all my fellow smut-loving fantasy/sci-fi lovers! -
Loved
Loved Tristan and June. They were adorable together. Their banter was so cute and hilarious. You could see that they were each other’s half. And his mom was something else. Props to June for not backing down and giving that beat of a prospective fiancé her due karma. And kinda felt that the rumors were probably started by her and her father to help expedite the marriage between their clans. Loved June’s fight for those weaker d need of protection. Their steamy moments and carnal attraction was hot. Loved the end and how she transformed into the future they both needed to remain together. -
I want to thank Klerstern Fay, author and Goodreads First Reads for the Kindle eBook copy of Tempting the Dragon King ~ Dragon Lords ~ Book 1 that I won in the Giveaway.
Earth girl is hiking in the woods and finds a space ship that takes off with her across the universe to be intercepted by a Dragon shifter King from another world. What a great setting for them to fall in love, have a great time with lots of fun and humor mixed in and find a happy ever after. I loved how the tiny Earth girl holds her own against the much larger and stronger Dragon King. Add lots of danger and adventure too for a great idea for a different twist to a shifter story. -
Tristan Okora is King of the Dragons. His world will be changed forever when he meets Juniper Jacobs an earthling who has accidentally been bought into space. They are both recovering from loss of family and see in each other sole mates. There is plenty of romance and action when they are betrayed and attacked by their own people. A surprise ending brings the story to a close well. I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
-
Tristan is easily jealous, “you are not here to flirt. Remain by my side and stay out of trouble.” Her eyes flashed with indignation and she gaped at him for several moments." The man tends to have a one track mind, “the surprise had better be that you banished everyone within viewing distance, otherwise many of our servants are about to get a show.” I liked this book, I loved Tristan.

This book was not one I would normally have chosen, but I'm glad I did.
It was outside my usual genre but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Action packed, full on , steamy and full of dragons and magical beings. What else could you ask for.
Really enjoyed this one, and I'll be looking our for more by this author too.

June finds herself on a crazy adventure when she sets foot in an alien space craft that takes off with her in it. She has survived a lot of heartbreak in her life but she is strong and capable. Tristan can't help but be attracted to her even though he should marry to secure his kingdom.
Danger surrounds them when they return to Legura and some of his people plot against him. While Tristan and June's story has an HEA, the mastermind of who is causing trouble in the kingdom hasn't been reveal. Looking forward to the next story, kind of hope it is Orik!
This series is a spin off from Shadow Quest. -
And... here I go again. As mentioned in the description, Tempting the Dragon King is a spin-off of the Shadow Quest series. I've only read The Demon's Possession, the first book in the Shadow Quest series. The good news is that it didn't make a lot of difference in reading Tempting the Dragon King from a confusion standpoint. One of these days I shall follow the rules! (Obviously that day will not be today.) *sigh*
Tempting the Dragon King isn't a fairytale dragon story. It's more of a shape-shifter alien story, where the kingdom is ruled by a dragon king and his family. Tristan took over as king after the unexpected death of his father. He had planned on going through with an arranged marriage until June showed up. That's when everything changed. The attraction took them both by surprise, but it was too strong for them to ignore. Things got even more complicated when rumors were spread in the kingdom that about more than the new king's love interest. Needless to say, Tempting the Dragon King was more than just a sweet romance, although that was front and center.
There were a few loose ends at the end of Tempting the Dragon King, which means I can't wait to continue the series.
I received Tempting the Dragon King in exchange for a fair and honest review. -
3.75 stars
This was a really quick paced book that kept a smile on my face the whole time. I really liked how the love between the characters blossomed. There was a few things that gave me a bit of confusion such as (slight spoiler) the use of stepmother instead of mother-in-law but other than that it read really well. Definitely will be reading the second book and will check out more by this author.
I received an arc through netgalley and have voluntarily given my honest review. -
I have to preface this by saying that as soon as I saw that this was spinoff of the Shadow Quest series, I squeed inside; quite loudly. If you're a fan of that series, you should enjoy this one as well. If you haven't read those (why not?! They're awesome!), you can read this book without any worries about being lost. The story is well caught up, though you won't know some of the old characters we get to meet up with and won't quite get the emotional weight of some of the history. Still, completely ok to read standalone, I promise.
Written in third person omniscient from both leads point of view, the book is about a hapless human woman who manages to stumble into and alien spacecraft abandoned on earth before being hurtled into space and eventually rescued by a dragon shifting king and his mother (oh how I love her!). June is spunky and holds up amazingly well considering how much 'new' is thrown at her in a short period of time (aliens, dragons, space travel, magic, demons, fairies...yeah, she's been dunked in the deep end). Tristan for his part is equal parts heartbroken, overwhelmed, and smitten. That balance is certainly an interesting read.
The two of them don't come together under the best of circumstances, and as with any of Mrs. Fay's writings, there is a good bit of heartache and sorrowful backstory underscoring the story, but it meshes well and she handles it with care. June suffered abuse as a child, so if that's a major trigger, be warned. Again, it's well cared for and she uses that to find her calling and her strength. Talk about overcoming adversity. Tristan's fathers recent demise during the big battle weighs heavy throughout the book, as one would expect for both a beloved monarch and father.
The chemistry between the two is there from the start, and the steam between them (along with physical fun) is off the charts. Their romance comes along to bite them in the rears because of course they didn't see it coming (gotta love that). There is plenty of action to be had too: dragon shifting and flying, magic use, some good old fashioned fighting, and even a little friendly rumbling. The relationships across the board made for a great character base; from the friendships, to the siblings, to the parents and beyond. I am looking forward to the next books and wondering who will feature in them. I am also still itching to see how this space race is going to go! I presume we will have a Lear or Adrian book and that will be it (read Racing Hearts if you haven't; another short and sweet plugin between the two series that has Tristan's younger brother briefly introduced).
If you're into emotional, action packed, steamy, family-centric, magic wielding paranormal/alien filled stories with phenomenal world building, this is a great read for you! -
This book was provided to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
WOWSIE! This book was much more than I expected, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
Juniper Jacobs, aka June, is from Earth. However, someone gets transported to a distant planet that may look similar to hers but holds many secrets. June comes face to face with a dragon King, and her world gets turned upside down.
King Tristan Okora inherited the throne from his father, who recently passed away unexpectedly. Hoping he had several more years before he had to take over. Tristan now has to take charge and figure out what this earthling is doing on his planet and whether or not he can let her go back home.
Will Tristan be able to keep June safe, or will she go home, and he will never see her again? Will June be able to make it off Tristan’s planet alive, or will someone make it, so she never leaves and never sees another sunrise?
“Didn’t you see how fast that thing moved? It was like a cheetah…if cheetahs had learned the forbidden art of Sonic the Hedgehog.”
You guys, the banter in this book was some of my favorite I have read this year. It was a comedy with romance with dragon shifting abilities and hot HOT scenes. June had a lot of things happen in her past that presented its ugly self again. It was heart-melting to see her with a young boy and show him love, when others hadn’t. I also loved reading Tristan, and it makes me want a dragon shifter lover of my own. Though on Tristan’s planet, there would be words that made me think of Jar Jar Binks. You have to read this book to understand!
I honestly can’t wait to read more of this series and see what else happens. I also really hope we go back to Tristan’s planet as I am hoping for more information about said world and people. -
3.5 stars - I liked it. Tempting the Dragon King is apparently a spin off of one of author Fay's other series. The book starts out like it is going to be a Dragon Shifters in space sci fi romance, but really the space elements are a fairly superficial wrapper for something that has fantasy trappings -- magic, witches, a fairy like race and a demon-like one come from different planets than the Dragon Shifters -- and the space elements mostly just served to get the leading lady from Earth to her Dragon King hero. Maybe the other series sets this the space elements up more solidly? Otherwise this was a fairly sexy romance -- I am unfortunately to the skim the sex scenes portion of my reading life-- with the King falling for the human who has more backbone than it seems at the start. That said, where this shines is a great scene where he takes her flying and the ending, the thing that makes a true HEA for the pair is cool in more than one sense of the word. Oh, and I liked the Dragon King's mom alot., Ultimately, this was a nice enough light romance read even though the space elements didn't add much.
This is an unpaid review of an ARC received via NetGalley. -
Love space opera? Want to read about a world filled with sexy dragon shifters? This will be the series to pick up. I'm a fan of Ms. Fay because of the fun world she creates. Her characters are sweet and endearing. Her female characters tend to be feisty and her male characters tend to be constantly in the state of confusion, trying to understand said female. In this new series, we receive a healthy dose of both.

Well well well..... that was absolutely freakin awesome! How sweet, sexy HOT every page was, I was completely enthralled. These characters are so perfectly written, with such a fascinating storyline I could not put this down. I’m not surprised I have read other books from this author but hot damn this may be my favorite. I anxiously look forward to reading more into this new world of dragons.

I think this would be the perfect summer/beach read. It's a quick read with just the right amount of romance and adventure. It was a somewhat predictable story, but I actually enjoyed that because sometimes it's nice to just be able to read a book without feeling like you need to Sherlock Holmes the story to figure out what's coming.
