The Demon King has started a new monarchy in the United States.

It used to be that the president was the most powerful person in the country. That all changed when Wrath crossed over to our world. Nothing could stop him. Nothing can kill him. Eventually we all bowed at his altar.

Now there are websites dedicated to worshipping him. Countless internet memes about how ridiculously gorgeous he is. And yeah, I can admit he’s fine as hell. But he’s a villain to end all villains. There’s no way I’m falling prey to that.

That is until I accidentally cross paths with the Demon King. Wrath demands I bow to him. For a second, I almost do. Being around him is...consuming. But dying is better than surrendering and I refuse.

Except when Wrath turns his dark, dangerous power on me...it doesn’t work. And now the villain is looking at me like I’m the enemy.

I manage to get away, but word quickly spreads -- Rain Low, a nobody from a tourist town is somehow immune to the Demon King.

Now Wrath is hellbent on destroying me and those who want to destroy him are hellbent on using me.

But I’m no heroine. And I’m certainly no villain. But if I’m going to survive, I have to play the game. If the Demon King wants a fight, he’s going to get one.

Note: Ruthless Demon King is the first book in a villain enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance trilogy. You can expect lots of tension, action, twists and hate kissing, and a villain you love to love. Ruthless Demon King is a full novel (55k) and will end on a cliffhanger.

Ruthless Demon King (Wrath Rain, #1) Reviews

Interesting concept but that's all there is to it.

It starts off well. I enjoyed the first 30% of the book after that it fell completely flat for me. It was giving Avengers 1 Loki vibes but I found myself getting bored of it soon.

The FMC, Rain who in her own words describes herself as an Aries girl.. surprisingly is not such a quirky or cringe personality. The MMC, Wrath is a demon king and compared to Rain he doesn't have a lot to himself. The author tried to make him seem hot and mysterious but he just came across as cold and boring. There's no chemistry between the two of them. It's all super insta lusty.

The plot had no depth. The side characters lacked personality and zeal.

The ending was...meh. I don't see myself continuing with the series.

    @Leonie bestie, won't recommend it.

Ruthless Demon king was fabulous!!!! King Wrath is arrogant prick and a great villain and I have to admit in the beginning of the book I didn't like him very much with his whole bow to me bullshit, like our girl Rain I wanted to dislike him but...... Me and Rain both decided that between his hot smoldering looks and talented hands and lips and what he's packing below the waist and the fact that he saved her a few times and theirs also the fact that whenever he's around our lady bits don't give a shit that he's a demon king ! But this bad boy might of picked the wrong girl to try intimidate because rain seems to be more then a human and could be wrath's kryptonite or saving grace. I love this new series so much!!! I've always had a thing for the villian/ hot sexy badboys! Nikki St. Crowe is a great storyteller and her characters are entertaining as well. Their is a enemies to lovers vibe with great dialogue and steam and their chemistry off the charts nuclear meltdown sex hot as the fires of hell and I love the whole push and pull of these two very strong willed people! I also loved some of the secondary characters like Gus, rain's best friend and his military boyfriend Adam are a couple of my favorites along with Arthur who works for Wrath and who I fell in love immediately because of his story . The next up in this series is Sinful demon King and I got a sneak peek at the end of this book and if the first two chapters are any indication of what to expect I'd say its gonna be even fucking hotter!😅Can't wait to read! 💯😁
    Until next time Luv's💗💋

después del último libro que leí de la autora, tenía las expectativas muy bajas. esta trilogía, sin embargo, promete mucho, así que continuaré de inmediato con el siguiente libro.

The prologue is just ridiculously unrealistic, it doesn’t even try to be convincing to a degree.

The fact that a little town in America, called Norton Harbor is the town a demon king that wants to take over the US is residing, is just mind blowing and lacks any comprehension.

A demon king from a supernatural world, of all the places in the world, decides to take over the US. Simply the US. The author doesn’t even give me, the reader, a plausible reason as to why? But every American human, even the president is hellbent on believing just that and on a mission to simply eliminate the enemy. Despite the silly and obvious fact, that if that would all be the case, the unbeatable demon wouldn’t have had any problems to do just that. Yet, he didn’t take over and no one questions as to why this is, isn’t that odd? There are so many holes and inconsistencies in the plot, it is disappointing to read. A president threatened by a supernatural force, goes and meets our civilian female lead. A possible weapon against said supernatural force and the government sends no agents to retrieve it or protect it, instead civilian amateur militia movements get to her first, several times. It is so silly ridiculous I have to laugh even writing it.

Our female lead transforms from, innocent family photographer unsatisfied with her life, to running and fearing for her life, to a scorned one night stand with a demon king, to end up playing assassin because her feelings were hurt, contracted by the president personally. And this plays out all in a span of two days, it is so unbelievable it hurts.
And all is justified by telling the reader repeatedly what a monster, killer and whatnot the demon king is. But so far the reader hasn’t really experienced such descriptions of the demon king, besides an egomaniacal alpha behaviour, killings of some bad guys, intimidation tactics and rescuing the female lead several times. It simply doesn’t add up.

It makes also no sense that the female lead always assumes what other peoples intentions are, she is constantly telling us what other people think and mean. Most of the time she is incorrect and it is annoying as the plot stirs in the direction of her false interpretations.
    She constantly ridicules her feelings.
She gets mad when someone calls her out on her lies, naming it a character trait of hers that she always tells the truth, yet the reader constantly watches her lie.

This is all not really thought through and when it comes to the plot the author needs to do more realistic research and needs a broader world view, it is obvious there are some limitations.

This book started out a little slow for me and with some quite modern language it took me a bit of time to adapt to. But the writing was good and the plot had me keep reading.

I could not put this book down! Hoping for a bit more spice in the next books because what little spice there was in this book was just 🤌 🥵

  • britt

Not going to lie, this book surprised the hell out of me. THAT ENDING!!! Nikki St. Crowe is the queen of amazing, surprising, jaw-dropping, plot twist, cliffhanger endings!!! I already know I love this series with this book alone. Onto book 2!

  • hea booktubes

Now. I’m not sure I’d be an inspiring figure if I suddenly had the interest of the most powerful supernatural in the world, plus the President, plus the general public, ect… but I think I’d do a better job than she did.

  • Dani

A demon comes to earth and is basically impervious to attacks so he just goes about his day to day until he is run into by Rain. She is immune to his powers and he basically licks her and says this one is mine.

I mean of course she took him for a test drive. I’m annoyed everyone keeps calling her a whore though. He’s effectively ruined her life so the absolute least he can do is make himself available to her if he’s gonna look like he does and be obsessed with her?

“Everyone has a story about where they were when the Demon King arrived. I was alone in my condo trying to swat a fly.“

So the last 4 days I’ve binged all of Nikki’s books, apart from the Bicious Lost boys because I already read those. And I started with Wrath and Rain.

    It was bloody marvellous.

I fell in love with Rain within the first two pages in this book. Whilst she has much more of a firey spirit than I do, I immediately recognised myself in her trying to swat a damn fly. That’s right. That’s when I fell in love with our FMC (the quote I shared is the first two lines of the book).

I also have to shout out to her inner monologue. Does she always make the best decisions? No. But that, in itself, is exactly the kind of realistic I want in my fantasy tales. She also has just the right level of sass and I want to drink it all in. Plus she too is a queen of profanity.

And wrath. Well he’s a snarky demon king with shadows. Need I say more?

In all seriousness, Nikki weaves such an intriguing tale of the magical merging into the real world. We’ve only been introduced to demons, vampire and witches in this first instalment but I am so excited to see how this evolves.

Ruthless Demon King is a paranormal romance but my favourite type of burn (slow). And the intricate but digestible plot has me addicted.

  • Meghan

    Definitely entertaining!

The chemistry between the two characters didn’t hook me right away BUT the story was good enough for me to want to continue to the series. There were a few plot twists that I think will give the next one potential to be really REAAAALLY good.

    I did giggle quite a few times. I liked Rain’s personality-ALOT

  • Jordan

I know what you’re thinking “another smutty fantasy book? do you choose them based on the cover?” Yes. And yes. Interesting plot, not a fan of the lose ends and unanswered questions. Lots of backstabbing…..and front-stabbing. Not in the smutty way, get your head outta the gutter.

  • Leigh Kramer

This was fine. On the one hand, the story reeled me in and didn’t let go. I wanted to know everything about the Demon King and everyone connected to him. We’re not given much and I’m left with so many questions. On the other hand, Rain was immature and reckless. Her decisions were illogical and I spent most of the book wanting to ask her what on earth she was thinking. It made it that much harder to believe there was something special about her. Plus, it was fairly obvious from the beginning that she had magical powers of some kind and I couldn’t understand why she was so slow on the uptake. Ridiculous. She kept trusting the wrong people too! While I’m curious about what will happen next, I’m not curious enough to deal with Rain’s impetuous, ill-formed reactions. There’s not enough believable chemistry to make it worth it.

It was nice that Rain’s best friend Gus is in a relationship with a Black military man. There’s also an asexual secondary character.

Characters: Rain is a white photographer. Wrath is a white demon king. This is set in Norton Harbor, NY.

Content notes: sexual assault , abduction, captivity, FMC held hostage, alcoholic secondary character (newly sober), murder, physical assault, stabbing , gunshot wound, thwarted defenestration (rescued before she hits the road), MMC turns people into demons and enslaves them, misogyny (countered), secondary characters in the military, secondary character with facial scars, vomit, FMC’s father was never involved, FMC’s ex cheated (past), past car accident that damaged spine and gave permanent back pain (secondary character), past death of secondary character’s mom (breast cancer), diet culture, unsafe sex practices (condomless sex without discussion of preventing pregnancy or STI), dubious consent, on page sex, alcohol, inebriation, hangover, “lady bits” as euphemism, gendered pejorative, gender essentialism, ableist language, mention of past homophobic slur (countered), reference to grandma who died of lung cancer

I finished reading The Demon King series (Wrath & Rain,) Book 1, 2, AND 3 by Nikki St Crowe and it was a GREAT 🤩, LEAN, MODERN, & STEAMY 🔥 Enemies-to-lovers, PNR! (FYI, I’m not affiliated with the author, not in the book biz, reading is just a HOBBY, and I’m just a regular reader that is super passionate 💗 about spreading the word on GREAT books!) There are NO spoilers 🙌🏻!

So the FIRST 👆🏻 thing to mention here… that EVERYONE always asks 😅… is it a COMPLETED series?! Why YES, yes it is 🙌🏻! I’ve been reading A LOT of Nikki St. Crowe books lately and I have to tell you, this lady KNOWS how to HOOK 🪝 you (no PUN intended for her other series, The Never King 🧚‍♀️ 😁) … so yeah, she HOOK's 🪝 you from the beginning and gives you a FAST-PACED 🚘 story that is detailed enough to have you book BINGE, but LEAN enough (and short enough!) that it isn’t a major commitment of time 🕰 ! You literally can knock out 👊🏻 ANY of her books or series on either a Sunday afternoon ☀️ or a weekend 🌴 ! And for someone who is a software engineer by day and have BLURRY 😵‍💫 eyes by night 🌙 , this is EXACTLY 👌🏻 the type of books I prefer! So if you LOVE ❤️ to page-turn a fabulous, STEAMY 🔥 paranormal romance and don’t want to commit WEEKS-ON-END 😩 to a MASSIVE series, her books are IDEAL 🙌🏻 (Chef’s kiss 💋 💋💋!)

OK ✅! So THIS series 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!! It kicks 🦵 off in a world 🌎 like ours where The Demon King 👹 has made his presence known in a pretty DRAMATIC 🎭 way (by kicking the g0vernment’s HINEY 😮😅!) So it starts with our girl, Rain 🌧 (yep her Mom’s name is Sunny ☀️😆 ,) who is JUST trying to make ends meet in life & has gone OUT OF HER WAY to IGNORE 🙄 everything on TV/Instagram/TikTok/F-B (you name it!) about this HOT 🥵, SEX-A-FALISH 🍆 Demon King! She will NOT be just one of the thousands of DROOLING 🤤 fans, DANGNAMMIT 😩😂! Which is all FINE & DANDY until one day she runs 🏃🏻‍♀️ into him in an alley and finds out that even though SHE may NOT want to be one of the thousands… she can’t do a DANG thing about being the ONLY one in the THOUSANDS that HE pays attention to…. 🔥🔥🔥

RIGHT! So SERIOUSLY, off the bat I was hooked!!! This is a GREAT 👍🏻 story set in the modern world and it’s super COOL 😎 that the cat 🐱 is out of the bag (i.e., everyone knows about The Demon King 🤴!) I love that it has MODERN 📱 technology and has a SUPER neat, unique plotline that I haven’t read anything really similar to (which is saying A LOT with how much THIS 🙋🏻‍♀️ girl reads 😆!)

This IS an enemies-to-lovers trope 🥷 ➕ 💘! And oh boy, it’s just the RIGHT amount of YUMMY 😋 ! Wrath is a VILLIAN, but we pretty much immediately LOVE ❤️‍🔥 this guy from the get-go & instead, want to SMACK 🤜🏻 the you-know-what out of Rain on occasion 😅! But hey, KEEP READING if you feel the same way I did because TRUST ME 👌🏻, it doesn’t take long for situations to COME TOGETHER 🥵 & for the pretty great STEAM 🔥 that Nikki is famous for... to KICK-IN 🦵 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!

This author KNOWS 💡 how to write ✍️ that romantic ANGST ❤️‍🔥 leading up to some pretty HOT 🔥 STEAM and she DOESN’T disappoint in this series 🙌🏻! If you LOVE ❤️‍🔥 Bran in Hot Vampire Next Door 🩸 or Peter Pan/The Lost Boys in The Never King 🧚‍♀️ … your gonna LEGIT LOVE Wrath!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 He is HOT 🥵 HOT 🥵 HOT 🥵! All possessive, controlling, but like… a SWEETHEART 💘 underneath it all! He’s got some MAD game in the bedroom 🛌 department (or shall I say rooftop 🏙 department?!) 😁😁😁 And don’t get me started on his sub-dimensional travelling... I FREAKING love BADA$S 🤺 POWERFUL 💥 MMCs that basically show up WHENEVER and WHEREVER the HELL they want for THEIR girl! Every time this guy found Rain, I was like…. yesssssss 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 here we go 🙌🏻!!! Annnnd I love ❤️, love ❤️, love ❤️ a FMC that is like… oh yeah?!? You plan to keep me here 😠?! Ummm.. that’s a big fat Hellllllll NO buddy!!!… so… C-YA 👋🏻! (meanwhile our guy’s standing there with a deer-in-the-headlights look 😳 while our girl is peacing out ☮️ by outwitting him with her escape 🏃🏻‍♀️ 😂😂😂!)

The other thing that I really LOVED 🥰 about this series… that I don’t usually get to talk about in reviews (since they are usually just for a SINGLE book 📕 and not the WHOLE series 📚 )… is this series actually had a GREAT 😊 message underneath it all! Really EMPOWERING 💪🏻 and there are definitely some PARALLELS to how HEALTHY, real-world romantic relationships SHOULD function. Which, is a pretty IMPRESSIVE 😮 feat since this is an enemies-to-lovers trope! Seriously! You get to the end and your like… OK that was a really FUN 🤩 ride, with GREAT steam 🔥, a HOT 🥵 MMC, a COOL 😎 story… but like… a really FANTASTIC message 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! I DIDN’T see that coming actually and at one point I was like… ughhhh NOOOOOO why did that happen to our boy 😠😩…. But just hang on … it will ALL MAKE SENSE 💡… and it was WELL WORTH IT! Really FREAKING cool! 🙌🏻

I usually write reviews once I finish a single book, but with this series, I just read book after book after book! (thank you 🙏🏻 thank you 🙏🏻 thank you 🙏🏻 Nikki for writing a series that I could literally digest over a weekend ☀️ and binge the heck out of!) There were great CLIFFHANGERS 🪨 that just kept me page-turning right into the NEXT 👉🏻 book! And I kept thinking I’ll write that review later, because like… I need to read the next book NOW! 😆😆😆

And now… for my SHAMELSS 😁 BEGGING 🙏🏻 moment to the author (the AMAZING 🤩 & FABULOUS 💋 Nikki St. Crowe!)… GIRL! You KNOW you LEFT the ending of Book 3 a PERFECT 👌🏻 combo of a satisfying HEA and at the same time… the PERFECT 👌🏻 SEGWAY to 3 MORE books, right !?! 😆😆😆 We NEED more Wrath & Reign (ooops…typo 😅… RAIN 🌧 !) and I’m salivating at what could happen in the next realm 🌎 (errrr… I mean book 📕 😁😆!)

So if you LOVE a series you can knock out 🤜🏻 quickly, that is LEAN & MODERN 📱 , has HOT STEAM 🔥 and a HOT 🥵 HOT 🥵 HOT 🥵 MMC, is enemies-to-lovers with a cool 😎 & unique story, and has a GREAT 🥰 message at the end… this is Free on KU! Give it a shot! You never know, it may be just the series to add a little bit of sunshine ☀️ to your REIGNy 🌧 weekend!

First off, let me just say that this book is absolutely fantastic. It is pure gold. I started this book last night around 9pm like the idiot that I am, fell asleep around midnight and woke up and continued reading at 6am. I just finished the book and it is currently 10am.

If the short amount of time doesn't tell you how great this book is then let me say it again. This book was so fantastic that I literally devoured the story. My poor husband sat here looking at me like I grew 2 more heads and had lost my mind because as I was reading I was also ranting and talking to the characters like they could hear me. I may have also threatened to reach into the book and slap the main character a few times. 🤣🤣🤣

This book had me sitting here cursing at it and screaming and having bursts of yelling and I wanted to cry. It had me smiling and laughing and yeah, it took me on a roller-coaster ride of emotions. The twists and turns had me anticipating what was gonna happen next which hooked me and made me keep reading.

At one point I tripped over my dog because my eyes were glued to the words in the book and I was so lost in the story and the world that my brain was not here and it was unable to focus on anything else but the book!! I'm fine by the way, and so is my phone and my dog. 🤣

The cliffhanger at the end had me screaming and yelling "NO!!! You can't just end it here?!?!?! Are you kidding me?!??! I NEED BOOK 2 LIKE RIGHT NOW NIKKI!!!!! What kind of sorcery did you use to make my addicted like this!!!!"

As of right now I am on the edge and I feel lost. How am I gonna be able to move on?? I need book 2!!! I'm hooked, I'm addicted. Someone send help and snacks and tissue so I can stop crying and try to move onto another book!!

Run and pick this book up if you haven't yet because you 100% will not regret it. I am in love with this book and even more so with the Demon King. 😍😍😍

I will be here desperately waiting for the release of book 2 and you better believe that as soon as pre-orders open I'll be on of the firsts to put my order in!!!

Also, we all know just how much I love my smut. There wasn't too much smut in this book BUT it didn't bother me in the least because the story was just *chef's kiss*.

    Eh

Unlikable characters and they left everything vague and bouncing back and fourth till the last page. It was ridiculous. The main characters barely talk none the less connect. Blah.

I loved this whole love/hate dynamic Rain & Wrath had from the get go. Mainly because Rain wouldnt bow (quite literally) to Demon King Wrath like everyone else did. Rain was brilliant though. Full of wit and sarcasm which didnt tone down even when she was in danger. It does however land her in a Supernatural world where shes completely out of her depth. I couldnt help but like Rain and Wrath. They certainly have a tempestuous relationship and that cliffhanger ending was just knockout. A bloody brilliant read and i cant wait for the next book

  • ✨✨ Claire✨✨

OK. So. The issue I have with this author is I compare everything she writes to her series "Viscous Lost Boys" read. And sadly, this doesn't compare well to it.

But as an everyday book by an everyday author its an OK read! It's easy to read, easy Storyline that flows well, there's no heavy plot lines. It's a Very slow Burn in all aspects, - Storyline, character build up and the MC romance.

Wrath is a demon king come to the world and has the attention of everyone. Women want him, men want to be him. There's groups dedicated to destroy him, and groups gathered to worship him. However, one thing no-one knows is what hes actually doing here. What he wants.

Rain is one of the few who really couldn't care less about this latest fascination. So naturally, when they bump into each other and he can't make her Bow to him, he's frustrated and determined to find out WHY.

Its an easy book to read, no major Roller-coaster or cliffhangers or extra spicy scenes but fun.
It sets us up for book two which then sets up more for a quicker paced book three.

  • Meg

I surprisingly enjoyed this a lot.

I really like Rain. I think it’s clear that she is just trying to do her best despite not knowing anything to do with the world she’s been kind of thrown into. She is resilient and strong.

I’m still waiting to learn more about Wrath. It’s obvious that there is SO MUCH we still don’t know, as a reader, about his world.

This was a good introduction into the story and I’m definitely swiftly moving on to the second in the trilogy…

Fiery sinful first book in a series

A read this series after the Never King series as I was left wanting to read more by this author. Nikki St Crowe is one of my newest favorite authors and I can see myself reading everything of hers. This one was a fun, quick to read book with just enough spice, angst and alpha male.
I'm going to read book 2 immediately.

  • Undead

This was so bad, took me a month to “read” (I skipped so many things).
I would read it whenever i didnt have my ereader and was waiting outside with my phone in hand. The cliffhanger is good and the idea is great, but the application could use some work.

  • Sexy Mama

It was a pretty decent book. I started reading because I thought it was a quick read, and it was :). The start was kind of boring but the end was definitely interesting and I will now have to read the next book in the series 😭

  • Marie-Lyne (Gonewithflynn)

I was excited to read this one after having absolutely binged Hot Vamp Next Door but unfortunately this one doesn't hit the same.

We have a hot and broody demon king and an fmc who is obviously smitten even if she'd rather hate him. I was hoping for playful banter, some growling, you know? Alas, it all feels rather insta-lust and the demon king feels cold and detached. Not being as invested with the romance as I would like also unfortunately means I got bored 😔.

Here's to hoping book 2 is better!
