Dangerous Amish Showdown (Love Inspired Suspense) Reviews

Dangerous Amish Showdown is a tale of suspense, courage, and great danger. The characters of Mason and Eric, U.S. Marshall's responsible for the safety of Samantha, a young child, find themselves in a run for their lives. Making a run from their vehicle, Eric & Mason find their way to Willa's house where the present coincides with his past Amish roots. Together they need put the past behind them and save the girl's life.

The storyline is fast-paced, fraught with danger and fear, but Willa and her mother never lose their faith. Their trust in God remains strong. The ending wrapped everything up nicely along with a few surprises. A must-read for fans of Amish and Suspense novels. I literally couldn't put it down.

I received a copy from the author and choose to review it. All opinions are my own.

Absolutely loved this Amish Mystery. A good mystery makes you think you KNOW who the culprit is ... then it's not. And you find a new must-be-him/her! Etc. Etc. This one had me guessing to the end.
You'll find this one on Kindle Unlimited.

The drama started on page one and almost didn't let up. It was clear from the beginning that Mason and his partner Erik loved the little girl they had sworn to protect and would do anything to see her safe.

Dangerous Amish Showdown was an intense look at what could happen if the forces of darkness focused all their efforts for use on a single target.

I admired the characters bravery as they stood up against what seemed like insurmountable obstacles. Though there was a lot of drama, there were also sweet moments which showed Willa reconnecting with her childhood friend and everyone bonding with the little girl and uniting to protect her.

Readers will be reminded that we are not beyond redemption. God is willing to forgive us if we'd only stop running from Him and seek forgiveness.

I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through Celebrate Lit; a positive review was not required.

Imagine a little girl who has witnessed her parents being murdered, and is now being pursued by the killers. Throw in two US Marshals who are unsuccessful in finding her safe shelter, because there's a mole who keeps revealing where they are. The first pages of this book set the pace, and that pace is 'hold on to your hats'! Dangerous Amish Showdown is filled with non-stop action, constant danger, and questions with no easy answers, as Mason Shetler returns to the place where he grew up. Would Mafia hitmen think to look in Amish country for two US Marshals and a six-year-old girl? Mason and Willa Lambright once enjoyed a childhood friendship in their Amish community, and now, Willa and her mother may be their last chance. Are these Amish women willing to put their own lives at risk to help someone who had walked away from his Amish upbringing?

"No matter what happens here, you are an admirable man, and you are doing what Gott wishes you to do to protect this precious kinna. And us."

These very wise words from Willa's mother Beth remind Mason of the belief that he had once possessed, and a big part of this story is his return to faith in God. Author Mary Alford also shows the renewal of his friendship with Willa. Is it possible that there could be a second chance at romance.

Dangerous Amish Showdown is a heartwarming story that you won't want to miss. Fans of romantic Christian suspense, this book is for you!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via Celebrate Lit. There was no obligation for a positive review, These are my own thoughts.

Dangerous Amish Showdown is a high-octane romantic suspense stand-alone by Mary Alford. US Marshal Mason Shetler and his partner, Erik Timmons return to an Amish community from Mason’s past to protect a six-year-old witness.

I loved the relationships involving the six-year-old and the different adults. Children often bring out the best in people, and this is certainly true of little Samantha. It is heart-warming to see the interactions between Mason and Samantha, Willa and Samantha, and Beth and Samantha.

I loved the strength portrayed by not only the main characters, but by Beth, who has a huge issue of her own, and by little Samantha. I did think perhaps Samantha was expected to “be strong” a few too many times for a child of her age.

The premise of the novel seemed very realistic as Alford sets it up. This is one romantic suspense story I could envision all too well. My grandfather’s house had a root cellar with a trap door in the kitchen. It was covered by a rug when we were little. This enabled me to live out the action in my head way too well!

One thing I wished for, was some humor to break the tension in a few spots. I felt like I was in a bad dream, playing the same scene over and over again, without resolution for the longest time. This stretched my perception of plausibility.

Alford writes in an easy to read style, and shows growth in her characters. Willa must help Mason deal with his own doubts and guilt before he can consider returning home. I also appreciated the growing role of faith in Mason’s life as he progresses through the standoff.

The resolution is sweet and endearing. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, Amish, or children, this might be a good novel for you to add to your
    reading list.

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher through Celebrate Lit. No positive review was required and all thoughts are my own.

Dangerous Amish Showdown is a very thrilling story written by Mary Alford. I have read many stories by this author and have never been disappointed. This story starts right out with suspense and continues all the way through which makes it difficult to put down. When ex-Amish Mason Shelter shows up in the middle of the night at his lifelong friend Willa Lam rights cabin she is shocked but also willing to help him. Mason is a US Marshall and on the run to protect a five year old witness. With his partner seriously injured from a gunshot wound and no cell phone to call for help things get serious real fast especially since they are being chased by a big gang of thugs out to kill the witness. The author has done a tremendous job telling this story and there is never a full moment.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Dangerous Amish Showdown was action-packed from beginning to end. It was hard to imagine how these characters were going to make it out of this situation alive. It seemed for most of the book that they just could not catch a break. As soon as they made a plan to try to get to help, they encountered the enemy. In the face of these odds, Willa and Mason did all that they could to protect Samantha from bad guys who just kept coming!

I liked that Willa and Mason were drawn to each other after so many years apart. I enjoyed that they both realized how much they still cared for each other. Yet, there were some potential obstacles to a life together that they had to work through.

Mason’s brothers have been featured in other Amish suspense books written by this author and I liked that the author brought Mason home in this one. But don’t worry, this book is definitely able to be read as a stand alone novel.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This was an action packed from the start to the end. US Marshall Mason Shelter and Erik Timmons are forced to seek coverage in West Kootenai Amish Country with their young witness. Mason knew the area from his younger years and found shelter at the Lambright’s house. He didn’t want to endanger Willa and her ailing mother’s life but with the enemy out there he had no choice. The suspense and heart pounding scenes didn’t stop but danger and evil men kept surrounding the property. The primary characters had determination to fight till the end and save the young child who had been through so much already. Will they all be destroyed or will their faith and prayers bring backup to rescue them and capture the offenders?

This story is filled with romance and suspense. There are lots of thrills. Mason and Willa are great together. I love that Mason wonders why he really left the Amish faith. Samantha was a brave little girl. There was a lot of action throughout the whole story. I received a copy of this book from the author and Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

“What dangerous events had taken place near her peaceful community to bring back a man who’d professed he would never return to the Plain life again? And what deadly effects would his return have on her simple world?”

A different take on the Amish romance novel, Mary Alford’s “Dangerous Amish Showdown” introduces readers to US Marshal Mason Shetler, his partner Erik Timmons, and a precocious six-year-old named Samantha. She is under their care as a member of the witness protection program due to witnessing the murder of her parents, and Mason is determined to keep her safe at all costs. Ironically, doing so leads him home to West Kootenai, the Amish community of his youth and the place that he fled thirteen years earlier, and his childhood friend, Willa Lambright. A faceoff against the Mafia on a remote Montana farm does not present good odds, but it may offer unexpected redemption.

When I consider the romantic suspense genre, Amish fiction is not the first thing that comes to mind, especially when the Mafia is involved! This anomaly is therefore intriguing, and I appreciate how Alford utilizes it to encapsulate a story about redemption and deliverance. Even though Samantha is ultimately the target, it is Mason’s faith that has been under fire since the events that caused him to leave his Amish upbringing, and “Dangerous Amish Showdown” highlights both the physical and spiritual battles that we face in this life. In many ways it parallels the Biblical story of the prodigal son, as Mason is slowly able to see the winding path of his life: “Through the years of beating himself up for the decisions he’d made back then, Mason hadn’t really thought about God directing each one of them, taking Mason’s missteps and using them for His purposes.” Even when those purposes include heartache and suffering.

Throughout the gripping narrative, Willa and her ailing mother, Beth, demonstrate the essential, life-giving power of godly faith in the midst of great trials, against overwhelming odds. As such, the sacrificial nature of these women and of the Marshals serves to remind readers of Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. As the situation becomes more dire for the characters, Matthew 19:26 kept coming to mind, wherein Jesus tells His disciples: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” The same God who knows each sparrow that falls to the ground is the same God who watches over us, and nothing is too hard for Him. He is always the victor of showdowns with evil.

It’s a quiet night in my house and I’m sitting down to read this book. Before I know it, my heart is racing and I feel myself grabbing the chair to try to hang on. The adrenaline is pumping as I turn the pages. My mind is on high alert as I prepare myself for a jam packed non stop ride of danger at the highest level. The first few pages prepare me for a story that never lets up with incredible characters, faith and survival.

The author has delivered a story that has all the boxes checked off for a suspense filled action packed edge of your seat adventure. As bullets fly and sinister men draw near there is only one objective for Mason and his partner. Their mission is to protect their witness which happens to be a sweet little girl. I thought Samantha was very brave and loved how she trusted the men who were there to keep her from harm. The author makes each scene so vivid I could see it unfolding right before my eyes.

I did like how Mason ends up at a place where an old friend lives to hide out. It was nice to see how Willa was not afraid when she found Mason, his partner who is injured and a child on her doorstep. She steps up to help out and her faith is very evident throughout the story. With her home surrounded by men who are there to harm everyone, her calmness really helped the chaos going on inside the house.

The story is fast paced and delivers a powerful ending that reflects the importance of faith and trust. I loved how the author was able to keep my attention until the very end. Now if you are wondering what happens to our sweet little Samantha and her protectors , you must grab a copy of this book and get ready to be jolted out of your seat as the action starts on page one.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Mary Alford has quickly become one of my favorite authors for the LOVE Inspired Suspense books. Amish Fiction is my ultimate favorite Genre to read and her books are always amazing. Dangerous Amish Showdown is Mary Alford's latest novel that I have read.

Willa Lambright is enjoying the wonderful Montana evening, until she hears gunshots in the area, The evening gets even more interesting when a childhood friend, Mason Shetler, appears on her doorstep. Mason Shetler is a former Amish who is now a US Marshall. Willa hasn't seen him since he left the Amish community, so she is perplexed as to why he is here now. Mason and his partner for US Marshall are on the run with a young girl, Samantha, who is a witness to her parents murder. They are needing to hide and protect the very young girl as she is also being targeted. Willa agrees to let them hide out on her property. Will Samantha be kept safe to testify at the trial of her parents murderer? Will Mason and Willa renew their childhood friendship?

WOW, this is probably my favorite book by Mary Alford EVER!! The action started at the very beginning and went all the way through the end of the book. I was fixated on the book and did not put it down until I was done reading it. I really like how Willa welcomed Mason, Erik and Samantha into hiding and helped them. She has such a sweet heart and I really loved how caring she was to Samantha. Mason began reflecting on his childhood and wondering why he left the Amish Faith. His appreciation for Willa was amazing. Samantha is such a sweet 6yr old girl who at times and loves the care given to her. I LOVE how Action filled this book is. I was on the edge of my seat MANY times and gasping at all the action! I really enjoyed that it truly was suspenseful and not predictable. HIGHLY Recommend this book! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Dangerous Amish Showdown is written by Mary Alford. This is part of the Love Inspired Suspense Series. I have read several books by this author and she always writes such great, suspenseful stories. She will keep you on the edge of your seat.

In this story, we see Amish Willa Lambright and former Amish US Marshal Mason Shetler crossing paths. Mason and his partner Erik are on the move with their charge, six year old Samantha King. Samantha witnessed her parents murdered by Lucian Bartelli - a powerful weapons dealer. Samantha can identify some powerful people and the Bartelli clan does not like that. Somehow everytime they move Samantha their location is compromised.

Mason heads toward his former Amish community, West Kootenai. On the way there they are ambushed. Erik and Mason are both injured and it's a game of cat and mouse. He manages to navigate through the woods and ends up at his Amish classmates house, Willa. Willa is surprised to see Mason, Samantha and Erik. She welcomes them with open arms, tends to their wounds. Then they are all, including Willa's disabled mother, fighting for their lives.

This book is action packed. Bartelli will stop at nothing to make sure that the mess is cleaned up even if that means harming innocent women in the meantime. Mason and Willa have to make amends with each other, and their pasts in order to try and stay alive. Mason has strayed from his faith, from God, from his family. What will happen being back in the community. If they can survive what will he do?

Well written characters, suspenseful storyline, great Biblical message. This might be my favorite book by Mary Alford yet.

Can I just say I love this book? I read it within a few hours of it arriving in my mail and I could not put it down. I was sad when it ended and would love a follow up perhaps on another character in the book so that I can get back to this cute family!

Willa is Amish. That means the plain and simple life. She lost the love of her life when he left the Amish and she’s vowed to take care of those she loves and doesn’t plan to marry. Her father and sister have both died and now her mother has an incurable disease that she’s nursing her through. Why open herself up to more potential hurt?

And then Mason shows up at her door. He was her one true love and now he’s back. But not as an Amish man but rather a lawman running from the bad guys while trying to protect a little girl.

Can Will and Mason protect Samantha and themselves? Will they find true love and how can they make that happen?

I loved this book. It read really fast and kept me wanting to never put it down. I was so sad when it ended because I wanted more on their lives. How about a book about Samantha next? Or more follow-up books on Mason’s family? Maybe on his partner? Really a book on anyone in this one that can take me back into this setting would be great!

More books please and a 5-star rating is as high as I can give so that’s what this gets! Definitely, one I would reread.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. U.S. Marshal Mason Shetler and his partner, Erik Timmons are charged with keeping 6-year-old, Samantha King safe. Samantha witnessed the death of her parents. She is the one person who can finally put away the dangerous Lucian Bartelli. Lucian will do anything in his power to eliminate the witness and the men protecting her. When Erik is injured in a gunfight with Lucian’s men in West Kootenai, Mason leads them through the dark woods to Willa Lambright’s home. Mason has not seen Willa since he left the Amish when he was eighteen. Mason needs a safe place for his young charge and injured partner while he gets assistance. The last thing Mason intended was to bring danger to the Lambright’s. Dangerous Amish Showdown starts off with a bang and the action keeps up through the whole story. I thought Dangerous Amish Showdown was well-written with complex characters. I loved the tension and fear in the story. It was offset with kindness of Willa and her mother, Beth. Beth and Willa are women of deep faith. They trusted God to bring them through the ordeal. I appreciated the epilogue that nicely wrapped up the story. It was a great way to end it. Be prepared to do nothing else while you read Dangerous Amish Showdown. It is a story of suspense, danger, compassion, faith, and courage. Dangerous Amish Showdown is a fast-paced, suspenseful tale with booming blasts, a perilous injury, a worried witness, a compassionate mother, an indomitable marshal, and a valiant Amish woman.

What I think you should know:
Dangerous Amish Showdown by Mary Alford is an Amish Romantic Suspense. It is set in the same Amish community as many of her previous books. While this book does not give many spoilers until the very end of the book, I do recommend reading the prior books at some point as they are great books!

What you might need to know:
Samantha witnessed the brutal murder of her parents.
Beth has Huntington's Disease and her health is declining.

What I think about this book:
WOW! This was a super fast paced book. Alford has a wonderful way of letting a story unfold and giving us enough background while still maintaining a suspenseful super fast paced story. I loved getting to know Mason and more about what motivated him to leave the Amish faith. Willa was such a great character, she kept her head in the face of unthinkable danger. Samantha pulled at my heartstrings, she was so strong after everything that had happened to her. This book was super quick as I couldn't wait to see how Mason and Willa could escape the danger that had them surrounded. I can’t wait to see where Alford takes us next!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Wow, this is one explosive adventure! The book immediately starts with U.S Marshals Mason Shelter and Eric Timmons facing heavy enemy fire from a group of weapons smugglers who are after their young witness, Samantha King. After narrowly escaping, they find themselves trapped in the home of a childhood friend, Willa Lambright. What follows is a high stakes battle of good and evil as the U.S Marshals and Willa put their lives on the line to protect an innocent child. This book will make your heart pound and have you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the very end! Seriously, this isn't a book that you can start and just stop whenever, because it is incredibly hard to put down (and I had to go to work in the morning!) I loved all of the characters, but my favorite was Willa because of her courage and unwavering faith. Overall, this book is so action packed that I have no idea how the author managed to fit it all in such a small book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes Amish suspense. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Special thanks to Mary Alford, Celebrate Lit and Mills & Boon Love Inspired for letting me read and review this book

This was definitely a high stress book, wondering how everyone was going to get out of this mess alive. But I knew somehow that none of the good guys were going to die, and that the bad guys would all get punished. I also knew that Mason and Willa would end up together with Samantha as their daughter. I figured that out even before some Kindle reader put it right in her review without marking it as a spoiler. Notice, I DID mark mine as a spoiler. So rude to ruin things for other readers.

What really kept me from giving this a perfect 5-star though, was not the predictable happy ending, but the whole idea that an Amish woman would willingly pick up a gun and shoot to kill. She didn’t seem to have any hesitation about it. I must have missed the part where it said how she even knew how to shoot a gun, or how she knew what a “casing” or a “mole” or a few other terms Mason used with her (or she with him) that she didn’t need an explanation to understand.

It was a pretty good story overall though, and it was suspenseful as to how the happy ending was going to come about, so I gave it 4 stars honestly.

  • Patti Whitson Stephenson She Lives to Read

This book has some suspenseful, heart-thumping moments in it. I think the suspense is ramped up because the person in danger is a sweet six year old girl, Samantha. She is the only witness to the murders of her parents, and the men who are pursuing her have the intent to kill her before she can testify in a trial against them. Mason is the federal marshall charged with protecting her, and he takes her to the safest place he knows—the Amish community in which he grew up. Willa, one of his best friends from his Amish past, takes them in to hide Samantha. However, evil tracks them down and all three find themselves in danger.

Although this story is suspenseful throughout most of the book, there are some sweet and heart-touching moments with Samantha. Willa and Mason attempt to resolve their relationship from their past, and Mason’s conflict in reuniting with his family adds extra depth to the story. This is a good book that held my attention and kept me quickly turning pages.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

When the sun set on this day, she wondered if any of them would be alive to tell the truth about what really happened here today.

Do not expect to put this aside until you have finished reading and have taken a moment to breathe. There is murder and enough non-stop action to keep you at the edge of your seat, wondering if the statement made at the beginning will come true - will anyone be alive? Mason and Erik are US Marshals tasked with the care and protection of a young witness. Repeatedly their safe houses have been breached - who is giving out this information?

Willa, an Amish woman, cares for her mother who is ill. The Amish are non-resistant. Finding herself in the middle of a shoot-out - will she manage to do what she needs to do?

This Love Inspired Suspense was received through Harlequin and CelebrateLit. These comments are my own and were in no way solicited.

Right from the start, Dangerous Amish Showdown lived up to it's name... with danger and action that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen in the story next! To be honest, I never thought that Amish suspense would be a genre that I could not just enjoy, but that I would actually find myself looking forward to... but Mary Alford certainly has a way of making me do just that! This one was absolutely no exception. Right from page one I found myself hooked and I didn't want to put it down until the very end--- just what I enjoy in a good suspense! Of course, I enjoyed the romance as well, and just found the story to be an enjoyable one overall. It was very fast paced, and a very quick read. If you enjoy romantic suspense, you'll certainly want to check this one out.
