The Dynamite Art of John Cassaday (The Dynamite Art of...) Reviews

This is exactly what it says it is - The art of John Cassaday for Dynamite. It features his covers for that publishing company - The Lone Ranger, Buck Rogers, Green Hornet. I guess my five stars aren't for "this is a must have book" but it is a PERFECT book if you want all those covers without having to buy the individual comics themselves. If you know John's art you know he is one of the most outstanding artists in the last 2 decades with his work on Planetary and the Astonishing X-Men being "must owns" for any true comic book fan. I love his art. And while I would say "buy those two collections before this one" if you are a fan of his art - this is an amazing collection. Loved it.

This is a wonderful book showing the process of John Cassaday from pencil sketches all the way through to final covers. The thing to keep in mind is that he rarely does color so the final success of the piece depends on if he has a good colorist, sometimes he does and sometimes he doesn’t. Personally I think he’s his own best colorist but that’s just not what he does. I’m glad to see that Dynamite has been employing him so steadily because I got to know him from his work on Firefly and Astonishing X-Men and don’t read the franchises that Dynamite runs. He’s a real talent and just a nice guy, I met him quite a few years back at Wizard World Chicago and treasure my signed comics.

It says what it is on the tin the dynamite Art of John Cassidy. While he’s not my favorite, I really appreciate his craftsmanship and his art and I enjoyed seeing some sketch to fully drawn to colored art that we see, I would loved to of had more interviews or some insights by John Cassidy about what he was asked to do and his thoughts about these covers

Nicely done art book. Cassaday is one of the all-time great cover artists with an amazing sense of layout and color, on top of just being an amazing artist. Dang good drawer of all the things.

Great collection of Cassaday covers, as well as a few other sketches. This book features both the sketch and the colored version for most if not all covers, which I think is a big plus for anyone who likes this type of art.
