In this collection of timeless hymns, spend four weeks experiencing the presence and person of God the Father through a musical journey that begins at creation and ends in powerful worship.
Each week is uniquely structured to take you through a specific element of the Father's character and reflect on Him. Each day will focus on a different hymn, including the hymn's text, a brief history and testimony about the hymn, and a devotion based on truths found in the hymn and corresponding Scripture.

Reading and listening to this was such a wonderful experience for me. I found this project when it was pitched on Kickstarter. Considering that I love Christian music and its effect in my own Christian life, I was immediately intrigued. I became a Kickstarter backer and started reading it as an ebook while listening to the companion album on Amazon Music. However, I discovered that there was an audiobook that combined both the book and the album together - read by the author with hymns performed by Nathan Drake as you move through the chapters. So, I bought it a 3rd time as an audiobook. This project was exactly what I was looking for in a devotional.
There's something so special about using music and art as part of personal time with God. So often, devotions can feel so academic and dry, but they don't need to be. Through the author's reflections and guidance combined with the beauty of classic hymns from Nathan Drake, I was truly moved and inspired.
I'm looking forward to the other two books in the series. I hope we see more Christian devotionals like this that incorporate art (of any kind!) and beauty with the study of Scripture. -
I love hymns. And I love studying the history, background, meaning, and application of hymns. This book is a 28-day devotional journey through a look at twenty hymns. Each week is structured to take the reader through a specific element of the Father’s character and reflect on Him—Creation, Grace, Faithfulness, and Worship, with the week having five days of hymns (lyrics of hymn, history behind it, devotional, Scripture reading, and response/questions), one day of reflection based on the week’s theme (a devotion, Scripture reading, and response/questions), then one day of prayer (a written prayer focusing on the reflection of the past week).
Most of the hymns are quite familiar to everyone, such as “This Is My Father’s World,” “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” “and Holy Holy Holy;” a few might be a little less well known to some, like “Here Is Love Vast as the Ocean.” Hymns of the Father is designed to spend four weeks experiencing the presence and person of God the Father through a musical journey of timeless hymns that begins at creation and ends in our response of worship. One can go deeper than the hymnal to learn the inspiring and encouraging stories behind the hymns and connect the words of the hymns to Scripture in a unique and thought-provoking way. Volume 2, Hymns of the Son, reflects on Jesus through hymns focused on salvation, sacrifice, sanctification, and communion with Christ. And Volume 3, Hymns of the Spirit, points out that the Spirit is our source of daily comfort, guidance, and purification, and that through the Spirit we worship. -
My wife and I ordered this book through the Kickstarter when it was first being released. It took us some time to finish it, but we really loved how Cameron and Preston were able to incorporate worship songs of God the Father with history of the writer and a devotional connected to it. It also had scripture readings and reflection questions. In essence, this devotional book is meant to do in one month, but it can definitely be done at one's own pace as well.
We are looking forward to completing the two additional devotionals as part of the Trinity project. This is great to do together with the soundtrack for the hymns as provided by Nathan Drake.
Well worth your time to read and reflect. -
Of all the audio books that I have purchased on sale from CHIRP. This book has impressed me above all others. I also found Hymns of the son, which I have yet to purchase. Ever so grateful for this book.
Not only does it give you the audio of the song. But the author gives you its history. Delving deeper into the memory of humanities past. Is a beautiful thing. This for me is an anywhere, anytime. Linda book
