For over two centuries, I’ve been the king’s assassin—his master of combat.
It’s my job to strategize and to train potential warriors, but I’ve never looked at any of them the way I look at Olivia—my best friend.
She’s all subtle curves, rich chocolate eyes, and as deadly as she is sexy.
With a new war knocking at our borders, the king orders us to awaken the Hunters—six of the world’s most lethal vampires.
Olivia’s family has guarded them for almost as long as she’s kept her secret from her parents:
She’s not some docile, mated lady-in-waiting, she’s actually a royal bodyguard.
But to convince her archaic family to wake the Hunters, Olivia has to come home with her mate.
No problem. How hard can it be to fake it for a couple of weeks?
But the line between pretending and reality quickly gets blurred.
The longer we play the part, the more I realize that Olivia and I are a perfect match.
Now I’m not only battling a nefarious plot against us, but my own primal urges to claim Olivia.
I might be the most lethal vampire on the planet, but she’s the only one who can bring me to my knees.
And when I’m forced to choose between my heart and my duty, everything we’ve worked for could come crashing down.

F******ck
No words.
These books have dragged me in, chewed me up and spat me back out.
I’m so freaking desperate for Samantha Whiskey to drop the next one it’s not even funny.
Now I am the first to admit I was hesitant to read this series. Vampire romance? Ugh not my thing. I can also admit when I’m wrong. Turns out Vampire romance is exactly my thing.
Firstly there was Alex & Lyric, sweet, innocent and destined to be together. Then came Lachlan & Valor,a sexy love-hate romance that made my heart melt. THEN THERE WAS RANSOM & OLIVIA …and let me tell you what 2000 years of secretly longing for each other does to you
.. it makes you very very horny and produces some perfectly satisfying shower sex. Oh yes it does.
Ransom is everything I wanted ad more. He’s sweet, protective, fiercely proud of Olivia as his friend and respects her as the fearless warrior she is. And as her fake mate, he’s even more so. Olivia reciprocates all of those things back to Ramsom. Only she struggles with finding the line between being someone’s mate and her need to prove herself.
You know the thing with these books? They’re blissfully smutty BUT there is an amazing story that I am hooked on, (maybe more than the romances that run through them)that I adore!! And this one is no exception, the ending BLEW MY FREAKING MIND. I can’t even wait for the next one.. I need it yesterday!!! Why did they do that?? You know what else I need !?! Benedict and Jocelyn because let’s face it .. that little duo is going to be lit like a firecracker !!! Ahhhh what do I read now I have to wait!!??? -
Casal fraco, sem química e história chata

This was another great addition to the Onyx Assassins series, I have nothing bad to say, I truly enjoy these books. They’re quick reads but still have depth and I love the romance. I find myself smiling and laughing at certain conversations which, honestly, doesn’t happen very often when reading. Each character is interesting and the author makes you want to know more about them.
I would absolutely recommend to read the series in order as the overall story arc takes more and more importance. I’m excited for more! -
Ransom & Olivia
Yes, yes, yes.
I am loving this series!!!! I can't wait to see what comes next.
I find Benedict so interesting so I'm hoping the next book continues where this one left off, with him and Jocelyn. -
Oh my god
I was living for this couple. It was my fave troupe. And we got.a.taste.of Ransom and Olivia in previous books....this was fun, hot and full of action. We got.some new characters that will be interesting to get know in next few books. We were also introduced to the NEXT NEW COUPLE for book 4 in the last chapter. Which I can't wait for... -
So very good
If you are looking for a growly, possessive alpha who is also reasonable and supportive, look no further. This might have been the best yet . The overall story didn't progress as much in this one but Ransom and Olivia were smoking hot. They were like magnets once they finally touched.
While they are off visiting her parents, they seem to find a lot of alone time - more so than the other couples seem to have had - at least in my memory.
There is one incorrect statement. I think. It says she has been lying to her parents about being a lady in waiting for the princess longer than her family has been guarding the hunters but that seems backwards but really doesn't matter much.
I had one HUGE problem with this book. It was too short. I looked down and realized I was at 73% and was shocked. I think it is only about a 3 hour read. Tops.
Olivia's parents didn't look at women's rights the same was as the world does now but when you are hundreds of years old, I'm sure the feminist movement seems like a recent idea. In proportion to my life span, that's closer to 5 or 6 years. As a result, she has been lying to them for a really longer time. The vampire aristocracy is rather stuck in its ways, too. You would think they would have learned over time that you have to keep current to survive but if this really existed, I would bet those people would behave in those ways.
So, who will get a book next? We've known Hawke is territorial with the princess. We've known Benedict and the witch princess have an adult pulling of pigtails game going on. And we pick up a new female that comes back with them from Europe. And now will we have books for the 6 ancients in addition to the Onyx Assassins. I assume the locals, the demons, and the witches will eventually gets series, too. However, I hope Ms. Whiskey, who has become one of my top 5 faves, will still put a lot of effort in the Reapers and the NFL series as well. The last Reapers book made me question that.
If you have not read anything by Ms. Whiskey beyond this series, I recommend starting with the Reapers with Axel. So hot. The first NHL series she did wasn't as good but you can see so much professional growth between her first book and Axel. -
Ransom and Olivia
As much as I loved the first two books in this series, this one fell a little flat. It felt like filler and there were so many things left unanswered. I loved the idea behind the plot, and the chemistry was definitely there, but it just didn’t hit me like the first two books did.
Olivia and Ransom are tasked with going to Olivia’s family to wake the Hunters, six deadly vampires who have been in stasis for centuries. The only problem is Olivia’s family doesn’t know that she isn’t Princess Avianna’s lady in waiting, she’s her personal bodyguard, and on top of that, they think she’s mated to someone at the court. Olivia and Ransom have been best friends for 200 years, so a little fake relationship should be too much of a stretch, but they also have 200 years of pent up feelings for each other that are anything but friendly.
The longer they’re forced together, taking part in competitions with other mates couples, acting mated in front of her family, the more their feelings grow. They finally reveal their feelings to each other and the mating mark shows up on Olivia’s wrist. They still have to work together to wake up the Hunters, but they find time to explore their chemistry as well.
There was a lot less action in this book. Yes, there was still a plot of the Sons of Honor exposed, but it seemed to take a back seat to Olivia and Ransom’s growing attraction. I still thoroughly enjoyed this book, I loved Olivia and Ransom, but I’m hoping some of the lose ends are tied up in the next few books. -
With every book, this series keeps getting better and better. Crimson warrior picked up right where we left off in Crimson Highlander. All the books flow so flawlessly together that you never feel like you’ve missed an important part of the story.
I loved Olivia and Ransom in the first two books and I was so excited to find out that the next book would be focused around them. Olivia is a badass female vampire who has spent the last century protecting Princess Avianna. Ransom is the top Onyx Assassin who is a force to be reckoned with. When Olivia and Ransom have to wake the Hunters, they pretend to be mated for her family’s sake. However, fate has other ideas.
This book was exciting, suspenseful, and so spicy that I could not put it down. I always find myself devouring anything Samantha Whiskey writes within just a couple hours. Her books are always page turners for me. I have a feeling on what the next two books will be about and I can’t wait to read them. I can easily see this series being at least ten books and I love it. -
As we are pulled back into the world of the Onyx Assassins, tensions will be high as Ransom and Olivia must fake what has always been real but hidden from not only their world but each other. As these two fake it till they make it to save their species, feelings will be hard to mask and the chemistry between these two will reach extreme heights. A story that is filled with angst, action, drama and enough heat to curl your toes has you riding a roller coaster of epic proportions. As these warriors give into what their hearts have wanted for centuries it will also be a learning curve for where the priorities will now lie. A story that drags you into a world where you are on high alert and has you enraptured by the storyline and the characters. As secrets are revealed and changes come into play your heart will be pounding and your pulse will be racing as we reach the final page and the unexpected takes us by surprise and leaves us holding our breath anxiously waiting on the next book in this addictive series.

Omg if you ever have to play trope bingo, pick this book. You will win, it has everything and it is delicious!
✅ friends to lovers
✅ fake marriage
✅ forced proximity
✅ just one bed
✅ travel quest
Ransom and Olivia are pure chemistry on the page and a complete joy to read as they work to fight against their attraction for each other.
The only weakness in the whole book is that after the whole build up of waking the Hunters, we don’t get to see it on page. But their introduction to the Assassins’ world is sure to bring an interesting new twist to the storyline as we go forward. As always Whiskey leaves us with quite the lead in for the next book, so get ready to be left going: “No! I want more! I don’t wanna wait for the next book!” -
I will say this every time I read a book in this series....god, that was good!
I was never one for vampire, shifter, paranormal....blah, blah genre. But, when done right it's binge worthy. And Samantha did it right, AGAIN! I was reluctant to read the first book in the series and by the time I was done with that book, I couldn't wait for the next book. Same here. I couldn't wait for Olivia and Ransom to come to together. (Ahaha, see what I did there?)
I do love a friends to lovers and these two have been dancing around each other for two hundred years. And when the need arises to wake the Hunters, only Olivia's mother knows where they went into stasis and Alek ends up sending Olivia back to her homeland and orders Ransom to go and play her mate.
Gah! Now, I need Benedict's book. -
We are back with the Onyx Assassins and I for one have missed these guys.
In this book we have Ransom & Olivia. Ransom is the combat master, second deadliest vampire & Olivia, bodyguard to the Princess.
They are tasked with wakening The Hunters and have to head to Olivia’s family home.
They have been friends for decades but have to pretend they are mates to do what needs to be done.
This is another fab book from Samantha Whiskey. I love my hockey & football guys but nothing beats this vampire series for me. PNR isn’t a genre I read but I cannot get enough of my Onyx Assassins. Roll on book 4, I cannot wait! -
Ranson, the best trainer off the Onyx Assassins is sent with Olivia, his best friend, on a dangerous mission, pretending to be mated to her. Many interesting moments prove difficult for the pair, especially as they must share a room & a bed (as you do as a couple)! There are moments of humour, palpable lust, tension, & agonising annoyance between the pair & it's highly entertaining.
Hopefully there will be more books released in the story because there was a teaser for a 4th book at the end of this one. There are 2 Onyx Assassins still single & Iam anxious to know who Hawke's mate ids & if I am right! -
It's been such a long time since I've read a friend's to lovers. They always seem to sugary sweet. This was such an amazing blend of best friends falling for each other, yet they are both very strong willed and have a great strength within themselves. They never think to go outside or search past their BFF bond. And then they have to keep a secret, of being Mated, for the sake of her family, and the levees break. All hell breaks loose within them both and their passion and fire for each other burns bright and hot, right off the pages! I loved this installment of the Onyx Assassins and I love Ransom and Olivia. I definitely recommend this is you're a fan of strong female leads and HEAs.

Ransom and Olivia
Finally! I feel like I have been waiting forever for their story (well at least since book 1). Let me tell you- the wait was well worth it!! These two have sparks flying and they don’t even realize it! They have been friends for centuries. Each yearning for the other but unwilling to make a move, settling for best friends. But we all know best friends make the best lovers...
This book was soooooo good! I love this world and can’t wait for the next book, or the one after that 😉 (hopefully). Even if you don’t normally like paranormal romance- this is a really great series! -
Honestly, Samantha Whiskey never disappoints me with her books and this series is honestly killing me. I have loved each of the couples in this series and of course, Ransom and Olivia were no different. I was really excited for their book after we got that teaser at the end of another one by Samantha. I just knew that these two were going to be great and they exceeded everything that I expected.
Olivia was another heroine that was a true badass which is no surprise since she is a bodyguard for a princess. I've just liked her character since the beginning of this series and I think that after reading her book I just loved her. I'm so happy that she was able to be herself by the end because she hid her profession from her parents since she does come from royalty herself but she really wanted to fight which we see her do quite a bit in this book.
Ransom and Olivia's story was just so great and the tension that these two have is off the charts. I know for certain scenes that I just wanted to realize their feelings for each other already. I wouldn't say that this is a slow burn but if you like angst then you'll definitely love this book. There were just so many great scenes and I can't wait for the other books in this series.
I do feel like this book was just a tad bit of a filler book in the series because the plot of the book was to wake up the hunters which was done and they are a big focus. I'm really happy that we got to discover these new characters because they're very interesting themselves and based on what they said, I'm interested in how the Hunters will play out in this series. I'm really excited to see if we'll get a series of them too because honestly seeing them find a mate will be very interesting to see especially Saint. Also, based on the end, the teaser for Benedict's story, I'm interested in what will be happening in that book and if the other creatures will be playing a big factor in it.
Overall, if you love fake dating, vampire mates, friends to lovers then GO READ THIS BOOK! This book was honestly such a good book and I can't wait for Benedict's book. Just in case you have read the other books in this series, this book is set in a different place but we still get to see the characters that we love! -
forced proximity and fate dating for the win
Fake dating. Forced proximity. Friends to lovers. This books did a phenomenal job of each trope.
The author had established that a mating bond isn’t always instantaneous and she proved that in this book. The chemistry between Ransom and Olivia was hotter than any of the couples before them. They had a friendship that made pretending to be mates easy.
So many things clicked into place in this story that I am anxious to start the next one. That last chapter had me on edge and downloading the next book. -
Adorable, as always.
These books can be so tedious and at times kind of boring. But I like the action. I like the story. And I enjoy the characters. The hardest part about these books is sometimes the cliches or cheesy dialogue is too high school drama for me. It’s like bad acting in a movie. The action makes up for it, but it still makes it difficult to get through sometimes. Ransom is still cute as ever. Olivia is really strong and admirable. Overall, I think their connection was the cutest so far out of these books. I think I’ll continue the series, for now. :) -
I absolutely LOVE Samantha Whiskey's books. When I saw she started a PNR series I wasn't too sure how it was going to go. Switching genres can be tricky but she nailed it. Ransom and Olivia were awesome and as usual I really enjoyed the storyline. From the beginning I've been waiting for Benedict and Hawke's story and based off of the cliffhanger I'm excited that it looks like Benedict's book will be next.

5 AMAZING STARS FOR CRIMSON WARRIOR
This book starts out like a race and doesn't let up from beginning to the end!! I erupted the push pull of Ransom and Olivia before they finally gave in and became a truly bonded pair. The battles with the humans continue at a furious pace and it doesn't seem like the awakening of the ancient warriors will help! Alter the end is a semi cliff hanger YOU HAVE TO READ THIS FANTASTIC FABULOUS BOOK Y'ALL YOU WON'T BE SORRY!! -
ADDICTIVE
Well, this series just gets better and better!
Livy and Ransom sucked me in from page one and kept me turning the pages like a mad woman—I didn't want to put it down.
Between their chemistry, the challenges that popped up, the anticipation of what MIGHT happen, and their heartwarming bond, there was never a dull moment.
And that ending?? I didn't see that coming—I can't wait to see what happens in the next book! -
4.90 stars!!
Not only is this series the greatest version of vampire smut I’ve read in a VERY long time, but the plot line is holding me captive!
So close to being a 5 stars. I absolutely loved these two. Olivia is a badass and Ransom too but he made me laugh a lot more than the other guys. I’m so sucked (no pun intended) in to this world right now, I’m actually mad….only because it’s not real life.
Off to Benedict’s book. I seriously can’t wait for Hawke’s!
