When I was sixteen a gypsy fortune teller told me my future held darkness and death.
She was right.
But what she didn’t tell me was the devil himself would rise from hell in the form of Lucca Dyshekov and take everything from me with a gun held to my head.

He’s the Bratva assassin they all call Merciless.
On our wedding day, he taught me real monsters aren’t the ones who hide in the dark.
They’re the ones who stare you in the face and steal your soul.

On a quest for revenge, he takes me and unearths secrets from the past that will cause a war.
When death lies on the horizon the enemy of my enemy becomes my friend.
In this instance he’s my husband.
The real question is when he finishes uncovering the truth, will he keep me or kill me.

I was very excited for this mafia story.
The cover was fantastic and the blurb caught my interest.

However, there were a lot of side stories, filled with many tropes, plenty of grammatical errors and the story didn’t have the originality I was looking for.

This started out boring but then the suspense kicked in and I was all for it. Well this ended in a cliffhanger, one that totally caught me off guard and I'm jumping right into the next book.

Merciless Vows is just went downhill. The story is supposed to be dark and gritty. Only about 10% of the beginning is good. Promising even. Miss Summers then just went downhill.

The conversation, the characters, the plot, the banter even the sex became so ridiculous and stiff. I even dozzed off somewhere in the middle.

Not looking forward for the next book.

    My Review

This is book one of a duet it’s a mafia romance I’ve read another story by this author before which I did enjoy this one had the slight edge for me and it easily managed to keep my attention and left me wanting more, so glad I don’t have to wait for the conclusion as the second book is already out.

This is the story of Lucca and Aria and through a series of flashback memories, it actually spans from the time they were children there lives intertwining along the way. Aria though has no memories of this past as a few years ago she was injured in an accident that took her mother from her and when she awoke from a coma her past was missing.

Lucca is Bratva and out for revenge against Aria’s father he was hoping to accomplish this through Aria but finds himself no matter how much he tries unable to separate his feelings for her from his ultimate end goal. Through blackmail, He takes Aria for his own intending to make her his wife she was just meant to be collateral damage but now he finds himself conflicted as more than anything he just wants to keep her safe loving her but also wrongly hating her at the same time mostly because of the actions of her father which reach far further than he ever could have imagined.

Aria seems to be everyone’s pawn the scapegoat for the evil of others I really felt for her as she is truly innocent of any wrongdoing she is just caught in a situation that’s not of her making she deals in the best way she can by biding her time and complying as to do anything else could mean her death. She has grown to care for Lucca her past emotions combining together with her current feelings but further revelations make her question everything about their shared past and fragile bond.

This was well written and engaging there’s a lot of chemistry between Aria and Luca and this ended on a cliffhanger that left me wanting more. I definitely recommend this if you like mafia romance it’s a good one.

First if all, that ending was heart pounding and cruel! I kept tapping my kindle for the next page because I NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

With Aria losing her memory she’s at the mercy of her husband, Lucca and that was just fine with him because Aria fell nicely into his plan of revenge. I was really trying to see the good in Luca, yet he didn’t give me much hope because every time I thought this is the moment, he’d revert back to being a jerk. Aria tried getting answers from Lucca, yet he wasn’t really forthcoming or wanting to help her because it seemed that he was hiding something.

I’ve read the Dark Syndicate books that Faith Summers & Khardine Gray have written together and I knew that this duet would be just as thrilling as those. Would Aria remember everything? Would Lucca get his revenge? So many questions and not many answers- yet. I’ll be waiting patiently for the next book. Kara~ 5 Heart pounding Stars

Very Torn while reading this book, it had a lot of potential but within the story was many other things going on other stories that made it so chaotic. It was an okay read, but at the same time i was confused and kinda bored. And the dialogue was kinda blah.

    It has amenisa trope.
    Russian Mafia.
    Long haired hero.
    Arranged Forced Marriage.
As it's a "Dark mafia" it does have dark TW elements: murder, rape, pedophilia, memory loss.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! Bratva romance. Such an intriguing book 1 in this duet.

    Omg!!!
This was a new to me author and one I'll definitely be reading more from including the final book in this page turning, must read duet.
I'm going to keep this review short and sweet as for once I'm actually speechless.
This book had a bit of everything and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Yes there was more steam than I normally would prefer personally, but unlike many books, the plot didn't get lost to it, and for that alone it deserves all the stars.
I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book as that ending had me slack jawed and close to throwing my kindle.

    Plot Summary :
Lucca has his eyes on Aria. The pretty angel fits amazingly into his plans of revenge and there is no limit he won’t cross to get his revenge. The only problem is his history with Aria. A history that she doesn’t remember. And it is better that way because he is pretty sure that won’t be able to handle the fact that the guy who was her savior is now her worst nightmare.

Aria’s whole life changed when she survived an accident with her mother. The accident that took away her memories leaving her all broken. That is until Lucca came into her life. She can feel that she knows him but can't remember why. He says it is better that she does not remember and sometimes that is what she believes too. Because the Lucca she knows now is definitely not a nice man. He is the one forcing her into marriage and plans to break her and any other truth about him is not something she can handle.

    Overall Opinion :
I am a huge freaking fan of this author and there is nothing I won’t read by her. Her mafia books are my new addiction and she is simply amazing! I have read the DARK SYNDICATE series by her and they are phenomenal so I was pretty crazy to read this new duet by her. And suffice to say that I am not at all disappointed.
Aria and Lucca have an amazing tale that I enjoyed a lot. The plot was not at all predictable and the ensign was one big smack of a shock to me! I loved that twist so much although the cliffhanger is killer. I hope that the next book comes soon because I am going crazy here. Faith’s books are the right level of steamy so there's that too. I would definitely recommend this series to all the mafia romance loving people out there!

4.5 stars! RTC with book 2....

  • Harim

Every chapter is SUUUUUPER long and dragged and absolutely nothing is making sense. I don't get why length equals quality. Filler, filler, filler and more filler. Just get to the point, already please.

  • Sherly Nyo

As much as I was curious and so excited when I read the blurb, I felt detached from the characters. I continued reading 200 or so pages but could not continue. I thought that there was no real chemistry between the couple. Lust, yes. But that’s it. (Perhaps my thoughts were colluded partly due the Double Ds?)
So I was disappointed in that sense.
However, below please find what I concluded thus far.

The story teased with a cryptic glimpses of the relationship between the couple from the past that made the readers instantly aware that Aria knew Lucca from her previous life.
It unwrapped with Aria revealing that she’s had amnesia, no memory of her life after the accident that left her 6 months in a comma.
She’s beautiful, ethereal and innocent; an unfortunate collateral damage just because she’s the daughter of her mafia father.

Lucca’s fascination with her did not prevent him from exacting his revenge against her father, though – by marrying her. It was annoying how controlling Lucca was at first. He’s some a**hole who just wanted her to know he was her ruler.

  • Anika Kay

This is my second book by this author, and evne though this is just part 1 of the duet, I can already tell that it's going to be my favourite one. What an amazing story!

Lucca Dyshekov, AKA Merciless is not called so without a reason. He's a coldblooded k*ller, master manipulator, and he's on a vendetta. Aria De Marchi is an innocent young woman who gets dragged as a pawn in Lucca's dangerous game of revenge. The chemistry between Lucca and Aria is crackling, and there is more than what meets the eye between them. I don't want to give out more, as their back story is actually the real core of the story. Its gripping, raw and emotional. Sensitive readers, be warned, there are elements of gore and other triggers, this story isn't in a grey zone, it's a proper dark romance.

And that cliffhanger! Bring it on! Can't wait for the conclusion of this story!

This was a fantastic read. The characters, the drama, the heat, all so good. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

4.25 stars--MERCILESS VOWS is the first instalment in Faith Summers’ (aka Khardine Gray) contemporary, adult BLOOD AND THORNS erotic, dark, Mafia romance duet focusing on soon to be twenty-five year old Italian Mafia princess Aria De Marchi, and twenty-eight year old, Bratva assassin Lucca Dyshekov.

WARNING: Due to the graphic nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Aria and Lucca) using present day and memories from the past, MERCILESS VOWS follows the enemies to lovers relationship between soon to be twenty-five year old Italian Mafia princess Aria De Marchi, and twenty-eight year old, Bratva assassin Lucca Dyshekov. Two and half years earlier Aria De Marchi lost her mother, and she herself almost died, leaving our heroine in a coma for close to six months. Upon awakening, Aria is suffering with retrograde amnesia, and presently is unable to remember any of her earlier life. Sold to Lucca Dyshekov for sins of the father, Aria soon discovers there is more to her history, family and new life than she could have ever imagined. Both hating and growing to love our story line anti-hero, Aria slowly begins to recover her memories, memories that threaten everything she ever knew about her life, years ago. What ensues is the building but acrimonious relationship between Aria and Lucca, and the potential fall-out as Lucca is targeted, and betrayal rides high on the list of suspects.

Aria De Marchi doesn’t remember anything prior to her ‘accident’ almost three years earlier. The death of her mother weighs heavily on her mind but her father’s sins are about to place Aria in the direct line of fire, as she becomes a pawn in a bigger game of the Mafia vs the Russian mob. Lucca Dyshekov lost his entire family years before, but the death of a friend pushes Lucca over the edge. When Lucca gets information about his past, from the Mexican Cartel, Lucca sets out to take down the people responsible but betrayal from within finds Lucca fighting for his life.

The relationship between Lucca and Aria begins as a business arrangement, payment for sin, by our heroine’s father. Aria is an innocent, and knows nothing about her father’s life, but with the return of her memories, Ari begins to suspect that her father is not who he pretends to be. Lucca struggles with both his attraction to, and need to destroy our story line heroine but as their relationship grows, Aria’s love for Lucca is tested when Lucca discovers the truth. The $ex scenes are dramatic and intense, and not without some question of consent.

We are introduced to Aria’s father Raphael De Marchi; Lucca’s foster-father, of a sorts, Damien Mikhailov; Pakhan Grigori Ivanov; Lucca’s right hand man ad security specialist Jon, and Alexei; psychiatrist Dr. Belmont; as well as Lucca’s housekeeper Marylin.

MERCILESS VOWS is a story of betrayal and vengeance; family and deceit; secrets, lies, brutality and the truth. The premise is dark and gritty; the romance is aggressive and intoxicating; the characters are broken, powerful and hostile. MERCILESS VOWS ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

The first book in the Blood and Thorns duet, Merciless Vows is a well written dark mafia romance packed with drama, secrets, lies, deceit, danger, twists and turns, revenge, blackmail, tragedy, sizzling chemistry, betrayal, suspense, mystery, lots of questions, but very few answers, and plenty of steam.

Omg. This was..... just such a great read!!

Our FMC, Aria is having it very tough. She woke from a coma about 3yrs and lost her memory. She still can't remember anything, and her father has control of her legally and the therapy session she attends aren't bringing anything to the surface but he tells he to carry on.

While having a drink in a club, under the watchful eyes of her dad's guard she locks gazes with a gorgeous guy..... As she dances with him, he injects her and she falls unconscious.

Aria wakes in a bedroom, which belongs to lucca, and is told this is where she's go live now, as she tries to get her father to take her back he hits her, calls her a little bitch and coldly walks away. This is the first sign to her that he isn't who he's played himself to be since she woke from the coma.

Lucca, our MMC, is an assassin for the bratva. He and Aria actually gave a long history but she can't remember that, and with the Vengeance plan he has for her father for torturing and killing his best friend, its best she doesn't.

He blackmail Raphael (her dad) to giving him control of arias therapy, changing her Dr which has a positive effect immediately. He also arranges a marriage, which leaves a company Raphael was counting on going in arias and her new husband, luccas, hands.

    This is just the beginning....

Arias memories begin to return with haunting bad dreams and matching faces....
Lucca is digging further into Raphael history as he's not just included in his bratva, he's playing with the Italians and Mexicans too.... But who's involved?
He needs more info before he can take it to his Pakhan, and not just for his personal vengeance...

And then there's the love building between the stubborn twosome... both fighting it for difference reasons, but there's no denying that the sparks are most definitely there, the care is there... But they will deny until it causes possible tradegy....

That cliffhanger!!!!! AArrrrgghhhh!!! Seriously. Book 2. Now please!!!!!
    .
Loved the way the book built and gathered speed - went at the perfect rate! Info was given at the same time as characters which is always better than finding out before!! Just a great read. Always wondering who's going to be the bad guy or the traitor!! And it's not who you think....!!!!

I received a copy of the book in return for an honest review

    3.85 ⭐️

Aria Teresa De Marchi life took a big turn when after waking from a coma, she found out not only did she lose her mother (in the accident that caused it) but she lost her memories and the ability to play the violin. A instrument that she not only loved to play since she was young, but made her become a top musician she was.
Lucca Dyshekov is an enforcer who goes by the name of “Merciless” amongst the Bratva, which he just so happens to be a member of. After finding out Aria’s dad, Raphael DeMarchi played a hand in the murder of a close friend. He seeks revenge by taking Aria away from her dad, with plans to marry her in order to take over her family business.

Talk about a powerfully deep story with intense emotions and feeling. Just from knowing and seeing the things that the FMC and Hero had gone through and continued to go through. It was absolute torture and heartbreaking. It definitely hit hard and deep on the inside, knowing and seeing the pain, that you couldn't help but feel sympathetic towards Aria and Lucca. The fact that they went through hell and back, yet somehow still continued to push forward. Especially in Aria's case.
Honestly the story had it all. It was a rollercoaster ride that consisted of many twists, turns, loops and drops considering all the drama, mystery, suspense, tragedy, secrets, surprises and whole lot of fiery steam!

While I did enjoy the overall story, with all the information given and mentioned, it did seem to make the story overly wordy IMO. While I understand it was necessary and important to the overall story, it just felt too much at times. Leading me to have moments of my mind waning from the book.

However with that said, Faith Summers managed to reel me back in with devouring the rest of the book. Especially with that cliffhanger ending. It definitely threw me for a loop, seeing as I didn’t see that coming at all. Safe to say I cannot wait for the second part Merciless Unionto see how the Blood and Thorns Duetseries ends.

Merciless Vows: A Dark Mafia Arranged Marriage Romance (Blood and Thorns Duet Book 1) is very engaging. The storyline is gritty and compelling, as are the characters. The Bratva Enforcer, Lucca, and his friends and fellow members of the Bratva Brotherhood, Jon and Alexi, are a dichotomy of the men that make you scream and shrink in fear in nightmares and charismatic, superhot and attractive. They draw you in, but evil definitely lurks below the surface. Cervantes and Damien are even worse. In contrast is Aria, innocent and vulnerable. Her life is just something to be bought and sold to these men. Her cousin Sienna is innocent yet knowledgeable, older, and a little wiser than Aria. She has much more understanding of the mafia world, but only from the periphery. At least, that is what we want to believe. We also have Marilyn, who has known Lucca since he was a child. She understands the tragedy he endured and what motivates him now. Marilyn is probably the most honest and truthful person throughout the book.

The storyline is dramatic and becomes quite suspenseful, especially toward the end. There is violence and action, suspense, betrayals, twists, and a mystery, especially regarding Aria's memories and tons of criminal activity that we know goes on in the world but pretend it does not. An erotic and steamy romance evolves throughout the book and much more than keeps you turning the pages. The author does a good job balancing dialog and the main characters' inner thoughts to keep you engaged and understanding the characters' motivation. There were only a few instances where it felt too much, and I skimmed. The ending alone is enough to make you scream.

Note that there are elements of violence, power exchange, intense criminal activity, torture, rape, child abuse, murder, and more in this book that some may find triggering. All and all, this is a very entertaining and engaging book. I look forward to the next book in the Blood and Thorns Duet, which picks up where this one ends. Note that neither of these books is a standalone. You have to read one to get the other.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    Heart-wrenching, captivating and shocking story!

“Monsters aren’t those creatures who hide away in the dark. They are the people who stare you in the face and steal your soul as you look at them.”

OMG! My heart is ready to burst out of my chest ever since finishing this amazing story! This is a phenomenal dark and gritty story, filled with unbelievable tragic moments and rife with emotional turmoil. My mind is blown and I desperately need to know what is going to happen now!

This story starts off with a bang and doesn’t slow down one bit on the suspense, the secrets, all the betrayal or the murder and mayhem. It’s exciting, thrilling and freaking shocking at every turn.

“Sun Tzu said it well in the true Art of War – supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting.”

My heart aches for Aria, everything she has been through and the shocking revelations that keep getting thrown at her. She is a strong woman and is slowly coming out of her shell. I think we are now going to see a different side of Aria as her story continues.

What can I say about Lucca other than he’s a coldblooded killer/monster, but underneath it all he shows us he has a heart and it is softening slowly with Aria. These two together are a mix of toxic emotions and undeniable chemistry. They are ready to explode at any given moment, which kept me hot and bothered throughout.

I laughed, I cried and I screamed so hard that I wanted to smash my kindle over and over again. I think my jaw has been permanently on the floor since the beginning of this story.

Brilliantly written with complex characters (many that you love but a whole hell of a lot that you want murdered), and a storyline that is riddled with secrets that slowly get revealed over time keeping you in suspense and on the edge of your seat throughout. Also, that pulse racing, adrenaline packed ending shocked me to my core left me utterly speechless.

Bring on the conclusion of this amazing story - I am ready to be blown away!

They have a past, but only one of them can remember it. He’s saved her before and whether he meant to or not, he’s saving her again.

Aria De Marchi has no idea that she is a pawn in her father’s life. A tragic event left her with no memory of her earlier years. She was close to graduating from Berklee where she attended on a scholarship. The trouble is, she can’t remember her talent or what her life was like before tragedy struck. She only knows what people tell her, and it doesn't help her get her memory back.

He’s lost so much in his life, and it has made him the man he is today. A Vor in the Bratva, Lucca is a man who is feared by many and respected by those in the Bratva that helped him gain the power he has, with the exception of one man, a man that isn’t even Russian and has no ties to the Bratva, other than his friendship with the Pakhan.

I really liked this story. It has twists and turns as well as many secrets that could destroy many, or could get them killed for knowing them or speaking them. Aria and Lucca have a relationship based on secrets and lies and they could destroy anything they might try to build. Lucca is out for revenge and wants to take the one precious thing in the life of his enemy, however, his revenge could be a saving grace for Aria. This story grabbed me from the beginning and held on until the end, which left me wanting more. I give this story a 5-star review and am looking forward to book 2 in the duet. If you are a reader that enjoys dark, dangerous made men, stories with a lot of secrets and danger, then you will enjoy Merciless Vows.

Plot twist cliffy left me in disbelief and desperate for more
Merciless Vows: A Dark Mafia Romance (Blood and Thorns Duet Book 1) by Faith Summers is a very dark and compelling read. This Bratva world is unforgiving and unceasing in it’s dark and dangerous machinations. Lucca, certain he has the upper hand, takes what he wants and follows orders. He is Merciless to his core. When Aria comes into play, Merciless starts to soften, but only for her.
I love a star-crossed lovers theme and this is the path of Lucca and Aria‘s journey. The plot is multifaceted as mafia romances tend to be. Truth, lies, trust, backstabbing, love, hate, honor, dishonor, good and the worst sort of evil. This book was a page turner, very compelling as Aria is trying to heal while forced into a situation she is entirely unprepared for. Lucca is both good and bad for her, but predominantly good. Aria on the other hand seems to be bad for Lucca, as she becomes his weakness.
Overall, Book 1 of this duet is a very dark and compelling read as evil deeds are revealed that leave the reader breathless and unbelieving. As one might expect, this book ends in a cliffhanger, leaving the reader heartbroken, in gut wrenching despair and dying with inpatience for Book 2.
I read an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.

OH MY EVER LOVIN HOLY HELL FAITH SUMMERS! I've gone back & forth and back & forth some more on how I would rate Merciless Vows. I can say that it was impossible to put down for even a short break but then there's Lucca, who I despise so much at this point. See, just when I was starting to warm up to him, he blew it big time & he was already in my dog house for what he was doing to Aria. I get the whole revenge thing since I would want it as well, but I wouldn't use those who are innocent of their father's sins (like Aria) to get it. This poor girl has no memories, but with him really doing her head in, she's getting some back which isn't helping his case any in my eyes. And his chosen family isn't any better & I'm getting enraged all over again writing this review. Obviously you can tell that I didn't just read this book, I experienced it to the point of my emotions running amok in this review so that's why I didn't rate it lower at the end of the day because this author made me feel an insane amount of rage, and even my eyes tried to go rogue in a couple of instances. It all leads to a mother of a cliffhanger which Lucca had a part in to be honest, so I'm dying inside because I need to know how it will all play out. Anyway, that's enough out of me, and I'll just end with HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO THOSE BRAVE ENOUGH!

  • Shannon Ricci-Mayronne

Merciless Vows is the first book in the Blood and Thorns Duet. It ends in a heart stopping cliffhanger. Lucca and Aria’s connection is strong and the one thing Aria is completely sure of. Although, she cannot remember the exact details they go back to childhood. Their attraction is all consuming. They crave one another. Aria is the obedient temptress who listens to all Lucca’s sexy commands and gives herself over fully to him.

We meet Aria De Marchi two and half years after a tragic accident has taken all her memories and her mother’s life. When a handsome stranger sparks recognition their meeting goes downhill when he kidnaps her.

Lucca is part of the Bratva and holds Aria’s father, Raphael responsible for the deaths of his best and friend and family. For years he has been waiting for an opportunity to exact revenge and with Aria’s 25th birthday approaching now is the time.

As Luca’s plan moves forward, he tries to distance himself emotionally from Aria. As he digs for information more questions arise and the more he wonders who he can trust. And, Aria’s memories begin to slowly resurface, but the more she remembers the more danger she may be in.

And, Lucca’s plans become blurred as his feelings for Aria can no longer be ignored. But, someone isn’t happy about Lucca’s investigations.

  • Naughty Nightie

I loved this book by Faith and once I started I had to keep turning the pages. Aria De Marchi awakes from a coma and has no memories of her life. She finds out her mother is dead and her father Raphael is the guardian of all her affairs. She used to be a world-class violinist but cannot even remember how to play. I received an arc to do an honest review for NNBB. If you love a dark mafia romance you will like this book. It is full of twists and turns you don't see coming. Faith has you entranced with everything going on it will be hard to put down. Wow, that ending I didn't see coming and a cliffhanger so I cannot wait for book two to see what happens next.
