Two problems, one retreat

Carmen's problem: Her pack's about to be destroyed by a rogue pack intent on claiming all their females. Their only recourse? To attend a retreat where alphas meet their forever mate. They're hoping to find an alpha who would protect them from danger.

Shawn's problem: After three years, he still hadn’t found his fated mate. When a friend suggested a Wolf Retreat, it piqued his interest enough to attend. Hopefully, one female stirred his inner beast into claiming her, or doom him to loneliness with the possibility of losing his pack.

The retreat: When Shawn saw Carmen, the dark-haired beauty with bright green eyes, sparks flew. He knew she was the one and would do everything in his power to protect her, even if it meant fighting to the death.

Wolf Retreat is a stand-alone HEA shifter romance featuring characters from the Blaire Thorne universe.

Wolf Retreat is a short story, a stand alone book, but it also is part of the Bella Thorne series universe.
Alphas who cannot find their mate can sign up to a Wolf Retreat and hopefully find their mate there.
Shawn, who is pushing 50, has the respect of his pack and a second in command who is happy to be second. But Shawn still wants to find his other half and agrees to go to the retreat.
Carmen's pack is under threat by rogues and their leader has killed her Alpha and unless she finds another Alpha to defeat the rogues and lead her pack, the rogues are taking over.
She is hoping that she'll find her mate at the retreat and subsequently the Alpha would protect her pack.
This is a short story that has it all. It never felt rushed or shortened at any moment. The characters are well developed and the storyline is well thought out.
The idea of a Wolf Retreat is genius, what else would you do if you cannot find your fated mate?
I also really liked the fact that Carmen is 41 and Shawn, pushing 50(his own words), a more mature setting.
This is highly refreshing, not everyone gets their HEA early on in life!
Another great read by N Gray, this book is perfect in length, has plenty of action, drama and an HEA... PNR perfection, and if you read between the lines you will pick up the easter egg!

Carmen and her pack is in trouble. A rogue pack killed their Alpha days ago and is coming back to take over the pack. The problem is there is no male alpha enough to beat the rogue leader. Carmen's pack is 2/3 female with a lot of them underage. Carmen and her best friend Gina are going to a matchmaking retreat in hopes of meeting their mates. Hopefully their new mate will be able to save their pack. The other problem is that Carmen is older than the other female wolves and she hasn't found a mate in the 20 years she has been looking. To her shock, Carmen is drawn to an alpha the first night. To make it even better, the alpha is from a pack 30 minutes away from hers. Maybe her luck has changed for the better.

Shawn is the alpha of a powerful pack but his pack is getting restless. Shawn hasn't found his mate even after 3 years of looking. He decides to try a match-making service which has a high percentage of matches. The retreat isn't his type of scene but he is willing to try anything. At first he is disappointed because none of the females catch the attention of his wolf. Then 2 late arrivals run in and his wolf wakes up. It wants Carmen for his mate. Shawn spends some time getting to know Carmen and is willing to help her out with her rogue problem.

    Carmen and Shawn's Story . . .

Carmen needs to find a way to protect her wolves from a rogue pack. The rogues killed their Alpha and intend to take the mostly-female pack for their own. Carmen has no male strong enough to win a fight with the rogues.

Desperate for a solution, Carmen and Gina go to a retreat where they may find a mate able to protect the pack. Not very hopeful, Carmen is amazed to feel a connection to an Alpha male and his pack is near to hers. Will he be interested in her? Are they mates?

Shawn doesn’t normally come to things like this retreat and, so far, he has not found anyone his wolf reacts to. But two females arrive later and his wolf responds to Carmen. Will he want her for his mate? Is he powerful enough to protect her pack against the rogues?

When Carmen’s Alpha gets killed by a pack of rogue werewolves she and her best friend know they need to go to a Wolf Retreat to try and find their mates to replace their alpha. Shawn had been alpha of his pack for a while and knew he needed to find his mate so he attended the Wolf retreat to see if he could find his mate. When Carmen and Shawn saw each other they and their wolves knew right away that they were mates. As their interesting romance began, Carmen and Shawn were faced with an exciting, intriguing, dangerous, revealing and emotional journey to their HEA and settling of packs. Fun read

The premise was good but the execution was not. When one of the Main Character's eyes were described as "drowning blue eyes" I knew we were in trouble. I also think it would have been a better choice to have written the story in third person because, personally, I found it off putting when Shawn kept referring to how muscular his body was. It also would have been nice to get a bit more of Nashville's, one of the Bad Guys, motivation for his actions considering the lengths he went to for revenge. I will admit to skimming through the rest of the story after Nashville was dealt with because, frankly, I'd had quite enough by then.

    3.5 stars

I liked the idea behind this story, but think it could have been fleshed out a bit better. It seemed that there was a whole slew of things happening that were not addressed. Parts felt rushed, while other parts dragged so the pacing could have been better. There was also not the typical "kill the alpha - take the pack" thing going on which was a tad confusing and probably should have been addressed.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read.

    An interesting bur short HEA

I liked the characters in this story, but it held more questions than answers for me. If the retreat was so vetted, how did Nashville get in and what did he want with Carmen that he was rude and dangerous? Who were the rogue shifters? Why did they want Carmen's pack? Who was their leader and who gave him other powers and why?

    just okay

I felt like several idea were not completely developed. The thing about Carmen, the rouge wolf, the violent episodes, even the encounter with the wolves at the retreat, I kept waiting for explanations or something to hint at what's happening, but it never came. The writing was just okay. The world building was not bad, but not finished.

This is a new Author to me. Carmen and Shawn's story of the two of them meeting at a wolf retreat. There is suspense, drama, danger, a villain, and romance, a good story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    Interesting

Not your typical paranormal book. The author had a great idea and ran with it. Not all characters are in their 20's. I love the out of the ordinary situations she came up with. Great read!!
