“One of the best mountain man era books I've ever read.”
Nathaniel Squire is a giant of a man, and the only one Col. Leander Melton thought could lead his pack of greenhorn would-be trappers into the mountains – and deep in Blackfoot territory. Squire must teach the youths to face the ways of survival, the rage of the Blackfeet, the cunning of a traitor and what it means to be a mountain man.
After having haunting ghosts of the past return, and tiring of leading a large brigade of trappers, giant mountain man Nathaniel Squire heads to the Rockies. Squire and his small group of friends plunge headlong into another war with the Blackfeet – and then, one way or the other, take to the vengeance trail.
Mountain Time Series includes: Winter Rage, Blackfoot Dawn and Mountain Rage.

This series includes three books in one... Beginning 1832, Hannah and her Ma, Pa and four grown brothers all lived together. Hannah was picking berries in the woods, she heard screams from the cabin and ran home. Indians had attacked and killed her family and burned their cabin down. Hannah was in her teens, left alone and had to take care for herself. A strong mountain man was in town hiring older boys for the winter to trap beaver in the mountains.
These books were intense, interesting and entertaining with adventures and wild stories throughout. The older mountain man cared for and trained each one of the younger boys to become strong men so they could survive the mountains. It was interesting to learn about numerous Indian Tribes along the way in the snowy mountains..
The boys learned to love and care for their horses and acquired trapping skills in a short time. Each had their own personality, likes and dislikes. The boys grew into strong young men very fast, riding horse, tracking, roping, learning to trap beaver and having to fight indians. The plot was excellent with believable characters that I enjoyed. I felt that I was in the mountains with them. One of the best Mountain Men books I have read.
John Legg is an amazing author and a great storyteller. The series was long but I couldn't put it down. As all mountain men did, the language could have been cleaned up some but it made the story more believable. I loved and enjoyed reading this Wonderful Series! The second book in William W. Johnson, Preacher series. Preacher is leading a wagon train of settlers over the a Great Rocky Mountains into the Great Divide to Oregon. Through dangerous territories with indians, small groups of gun fighters and snow storms and providing safety for the wagons. I love these books they are outstanding and full of adventures. -

Greenhorns head to the mountains, led by a Giant, Nathaniel Squire, right into Blackfoot country!
Colonel Leander Melton was heading up a new expedition for trapping beaver furs in the wilds of the west. He knew that he would need a man of extreme qualities to lead his men as he had never been there, and this was all new to him. His backers in the East had left everything up to him, all they were interested in was the bottom line, DOLLARS!!! Finding a man like Nathaniel Squire was a blessing and one that the Colonel knew immediately was the right man for the job. Now if he could just convince him to take the position.
Nathaniel Squire was by nature a loner and was just finishing up his spree in St. Louis. He had a long-time partner that he had planned to meet up with for the trapping season only. He figured to take off soon, most likely in the next day or so. He agreed to the meeting with the Colonel just out of curiosity and was by no means looking for a job! After visiting and sharing a drink or two, he decided that he liked and respected the man. Confounding himself even further, and he cannot figure out why, but he agreed to the ludicrous idea of taking greenhorn kids and a few ruffians (and kids would be the only ones left around to hire) to the mountains this late in the season. Then considering further, that the Colonel and all the youngins would have no clue as to how difficult this task would be. He was not even sure that they could reach a good trapping area before winter set in, much less that one would even be available. All the good places would have been already taken weeks ago. Why would he ever agree???? But agree he did! Now he has set out to prepare, pulling together the supplies, animals, and teaching the men/boys how to handle everything for this incredible journey into the wilds of the west!
Join Nathaniel, a giant of a man, in this journey of a lifetime…
Mountain Time Series includes Winter Rage, Blackfoot Dawn, and Mountain Rage.
What did I like? This is one of the most interesting reads. I have a fleeting knowledge of trapping and this sort of thing, but obviously, the author is well versed. I was very impressed with the details and descriptions that he used to bring this storyline to life. His knowledge of the task and the training, along with the animals was incredible. I also fell in love with Squire and his amazing horse, Noir Astre. The other thing I enjoyed was the French that was used. I love learning and it was a pleasure to do so in this way, mon ami!
What will you like? OMG, the action will take you by storm, Squire does nothing the easy way and he storms the mountains and everything in his path. The learning curve for the other four main characters, the Colonel, Abner Train, Lil’ Jim, and Hannah is one amazing journey, from greenhorns to seasoned mountain men/woman. The storyline will capture your heart making it very difficult to lay this down. Humor is spread across the pages with a heavy hand, the danger, and battles, fill in the curves, the splendor of the mountains, and its animals will thrill you. Have I left anything out, oh yeah, the growth of each of them from kids to adults will enrapture you. Let’s see, oh, I left out the romance! Each of the characters experiences life to the fullest with love and pain. The author, John Legg has brought these three stories to life with the incredible descriptions and details that take them from the book to your mind. Alive and full of mystery and intrigue from start to finish! This is an amazing read that you will not be able to forget. Don’t miss adding it to your Library!!!!

You’ll become a. mountainman
Kept reading every moment I could and you will too. Life we can’t imagine, but wish we were there. Enjoy. -
Fantastic read
Couldn't stop reading, a real action packed saga of real life long ago. Could possibly follow with the younger generation he trained... -
Just WOW
I've read several of John Legg's books but this series tops them all! Except for confusing Singing Grass with Sings Pretty near the end, I can find no serious fault! -
Could have had a better ending.
Good story about a larger than life frontier warrior only to end without a wimper! Skip the last few pages and write your own ending.
