Adventures with Finn and Skip: Forest Reviews

  • Grethe

Educational book concerning saving our rain forests.
    Rating based on genre.

Had I rated it as a picture book it would have been ⭐️⭐️⭐️,5

I like the art, and the fact that there’s lot of small details to investigate while reading

This deceptively simple picture book tells of Finn and his dog, Skip journey through a rainforest - the flora and fauna set this in South America - and thoroughly enjoying the beauty of the environment. Suddenly they paddle into cleared land where they rescue and abandoned baby tapir followed by fires to burn off the remainder of the forest ready for cultivation. The fire fighters present a list of reasons and fore the clear felling including making furniture, farming and planting palm trees of oil. The duo , and continue on the desecration until the reach fertile forest again along with many animals seeking new homes. On their return home Skip and Finn actively engage in activities to reduce waste and the need for clear felling, covering recycling, supporting environmental charities

Kearney's pastel paintings provide striking contrast between the lush forest and damaged landscape and the use of large cream speech bubbles to highlight key messages provides prompts for discussion. An important book to introduce young readers to the impact of deforestation on the environment and the need for responsible use of resources.

A book about deforestation that very aptly carries an FSC logo on the back!

Finn and his dog, Skip go on an adventure in South America where they discover the terrible truth about the deforestation of the Amazon rain forest. Once home, Finn adopts some new habits that will help reduce deforestation and teaches all his friends what he has learnt too.

Through their journey, we see some beautiful scenery and it's so endearing when Finn and Skip help some struggling animals find new parts of the forest to live in. My son loves the baby tapir that they help to reunite with its parents.

It's great to see a book about negative human impact on nature that actually gives children practical ideas of how they can make a small difference.

'Forest' is part of a series about Finn and Skip's adventures with environmental messages. 'Bird' is due to be released in September 2022. Can't wait to read that one too

Excellent book about deforestation and taking care of our planet. I am completely taken by the illustrations and how perfectly they match the tone and humor of the great protect-the-earth story. This would be a great Earth Day read aloud. But also are great journey story. Social justice.

Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

A little heavy handed, but not bad.

Lovely illustrations and a good message, but felt a little heavy-handed or a bit pedantic to me.

  • Trisha

It started as a cute story. It ended as a good lesson.
