Every Halloween, Satan's Affair will come to you. We travel the country, offering terrifying haunted houses, thrilling rides and the tastiest food.

And with every passing town, I cleanse this world, one execution at a time.

I hide within the walls, casting my judgement for those that reek of evil, singing lullabies to their rotting souls. Once you've been chosen, there's no escaping my henchmen—they cater to my every desire.

You can run and you can hide, but it only excites me.

Come. Take a walk through my dollhouse, where your screams will blend and your cute little pleas will go unanswered.

But I can't promise it'll be over quickly...

Trigger Warning: This is a dark read that contains graphic violence, sex, and triggering situations.

Satans Affair (Cat and Mouse Duet, #0.5) Reviews

  • aly ☆彡 (slowly catching up)

Sybil works at Satan's Affair where they will travel across the country, providing horrific haunted houses, exhilarating rides, and delectable cuisine every Halloween. Yet with each passing town, Sybil will ensure that one execution is carried out at a time, ridding the earth of the stench of evil and decaying souls. And with the help of her henchmen, the evils' screams and cries will surely suspend and go unheard.

I started this book because I wanted to read the author's Cat and Mouse Duet, and I have to say, I was not expecting it to be that gory and vicious. I've been debating whether or not to DNF this book because of all the explicit stabbings and bloodiness it depicted. Not to say, I find it a bit tedious at first and the smut felt a bit superfluous given the premise. I wouldn't think I'll enjoy them anyway.

However, the plot twist makes up for it and it just makes so much sense towards the end, I'm quite baffled (in a good way). I would like to say more, but given that this is a novella — I don't feel like spoiling it. So, if you would love yourself a dark book on psychopaths, cults, and violence with a smudge of smuts. Maybe, this is what you're looking for all along.

'SATAN'S AFFAIR' Is a full length dark read by H.D. Carlton. If you've read 'Haunting Adeline' you stumble across the scene where we were first introduced to Zane.

    '𝐎𝐧𝐞, (𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛) 𝐭𝐰𝐨 (𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛),

After finishing ‘Haunting Adeline’ which I loved, I wanted to read something else by this author and I'm so glad I did because I really enjoyed this one and hope we go back to this crazy world again.

    A wee bit twisted
    A wee bit dark
This was so unique, so f#cked up, no romance, no pretty little words, this had me glued to the pages.
I can't even convey into words what this book was about because god even I have no idea and I just finished reading it!!

Sibby and her 'Henchmen' Mortis, Timothy, Jackal & Cronus are characters you've never encountered before, she eradicates evil from the world in her playground where she hides inside the walls, she can smell the rot in the men when they enter the traveling horror show as she strikes and kills one demon human at a time, she's been doing this for five years and no one suspects a thing.

There’s just something about a maniacal, blood thirsty girl that makes me happy. The more psychotic, the better and Sibel certainly doesn’t disappoint.

I’m loving Ms Carlton’s writing style, she’s very easy to read and she paints the perfect picture. As the story progresses I can see it so well it’s like I’m actually there. It’s funny when you can relate to an MC like this because I’m not afraid of her whatsoever, I’m with her every step of the way.

As an immense fan of revenge, I’ll always be down for a punishment that fits the crime or worse. As is the case with the mace; take it all bitch! (I know I have issues.)

It does start to feel a bit repetitive by the second half. I’m also kind of sad that I don’t find the RH element very scintillating, it feels rather rote.

Zade was a much needed addition that added just enough spice to keep this interesting. (I was gonna wait to read Haunting Adeline but not now. Cliffhanger be damned.)

Awesome plot twist in the epilogue, not that it’s the most original but made it interesting. The big question is what did Zade see?

listen... i promise soon i'll give reading booktok smut a rest because obviously we don't get along but i genuinely cannot comprehend why a book like this qualifies as romance.

gratuitous gore, psychopathic characters, and in the end, a "plot twist" that demonizes people with mental illness. i only read this because the author recommends it as a prequel to her main series haunting adeline, and if this book is any indication, maybe i should quit while i'm ahead. yall have to start separating your "smut recommendations" between porn that was done for shock value and actually quality stuff because i'm getting tiirreeeeddddd

I started this book thinking, "WTF am I reading?" And ended it thinking, "I am obssessed with this unhinged doll-chick." We love character growth in this house.

No but really...Sibby can hack me up any day and I would be happy.

If you have ever watched. Freddy Krueger movies. You know this rhyme.

Satan’s Affair travelling around the country during the fall months, They have become quite famous. A travelling Halloween fair, with dozens of haunted houses, small thrill rides and plenty of food to gorge yourself on. Every year, the theme of their houses changes to avoid our guests walking through the same houses year after year, being scared by the same monsters.

But Lil do most people know what goes on in Sibel’s
    haunted dollhouse.

Let me just give you tiny bit of background on Sibel Dubois

“ I’ve been fighting my entire life. Fighting Daddy and his punishments. Fighting to get out of a dangerous cult, just to fight the demons that riddle this Earth with filth. I’m no stranger to using my hands to defend myself no less than I use them to kill.”

I need to be honest here, I am not sure wtf I just read. This was Very disturbing reading with some serious ass triggers, very descriptive violence sex, with plenty of Twisted & Gory scenes, you’ll even find Reverse Harem

So with all that said, If you are not Faint at heart, then you are in the perfect place
Me personally I am not sure that I am ready for round two in this duet….. I think that I may need to take a step back before I pick up the next book…. But who knows I might just be as schizophrenic with psychopathic tendencies as Sibe for reading this type of dark romance

  • Crystal (Crystalreads2)

Hello, Wes Craven; meet Rob Zombie and walk through the Great American Nightmare, and we have our psychopath named Sibby with her henchmen. These are the vibes I got from this novella. Such great vibes. Satan’s Affair is a dark erotica novella, which I devoured and (some may think its a horror novella)tremendously enjoyed.

Sibby has a unique way of deciphering evil and expunging them from this world with her henchmen in tow. She is crazy and rightfuly so.. The setting is a Haunted traveling carnival, and what better way to rid evil.

“I’m not crazy!” I screech. I take a deep, calming breath and arrange the smile back on my face. “I’m just passionate.”

I love a good blood thrusty heroine and H.D. Carlton nailed it!!!!. I absoutly love where she went in this novella. This book is full of blood, gore, guts, and steam. Heed the trigger warning it's not for the faint of heart. I can not say enough how highly I recommend this book if you have love all things dark. The cover is a work of art and a must to add to my bookshelve.

Sibby had a troubled childhood and when she escape from her father, she took shelter in a fair.
She's got a purpose, free the world from evil people.
So when evil men enter her doll house, she kills them, she loves to chase them with two creepy songs and it's the way this book begins...

  • Darlene I read WAY to many books

I....I have no words for this story!!!

Satan's Affair is a travling haunted house with mazes, foods, rides (which i love) and has Sibels haunted house which where she hides in the walls picking and choosing evil people to get rid of, with her Henchmen they get the job done.. and there isn't one oh no she has few men.

Now this book shall fuck you up because it did for me it also gave me house of 1000 corpse vibes which I love and wish this was a movie because it was sooo good. Do I have a fave henchmen yes I do and it's Mortis 🥰🥰🥰 as they move town to town Sibby picks the worse peoples and gets rid of them. And who doesn't love a strong passionate "crazy" killer lol.

And when you get closer to the end you start going WTF HAPPENED!!!!

I’m gonna keep this brief. I hated it. When I saw Villains Do It Better review/DNF I knew I was treading up a hill with this one so if you like stuff like this sure as heck give it a try don't make my words stop you. The setting was the one bright spot with it being atmospheric and clearly a fun house. I cannot really cover this without major spoilers so be warned. This was quite dark and very explicit even for me.

I read this because it was labelled as encouraged to read before
Haunting Adeline I assume Zane is gonna have his moment. I pray that it doesn't go down like this.

I LOVED getting to know sibby more🥹 My Love for her grew so much omg

  • Cas

I’m not sure wtf I just read. Sibby is a very complex person and idk what to believe anymore. The ending made me mad is all I’m going to say.
The highlight of this novella was meeting Zade. I was curious about him after seeing millions of tiktoks and how great he is. Now I can’t wait to read his duet.

This was crazy- the heroine was absolutely unhinged and I loved it. It didn’t really make much sense up until 60% in, and I think that’s bc we met a character that is in haunting Adeline (i read this so i could read haunting Adeline bc i was told to read it first) but even when it wasn’t making sense, it was crazy fun-ness. There’s a lot of murder in this, and the heroine thinks a lot back to her very traumatic upbringing of being born into a cult. She’s escaped now, and killing “demons”, or people with horrible souls.

  • CourtRocks (Villains Do It Better)

Love the cover, but the book could have been better. It just got a little too weird for me, in particular, one thing the heroine said about a guy they were killing was a bit gross and totally ruined the vibe for me 😅

    WTF

  • Jae Stanford-Gant

I am in ABSOLUTE shock. I literally can’t believe that I became so attached to such an unhinged, psychotic and murderous character named Sibby.

Page turn by page turn, it was literally shock after shock. I always felt like nothing is gonna shock me anymore, this book is so wild already - it can’t get any wilder. But surprise, surprise it always did. I’m so excited to read the duet now that I’ve gotten a glimpse of Zade!

In the end, I really felt bad for Sibby. Like there were times were I felt bad, but my heart was breaking at the end. I didn’t see that twist coming, but I also feel like it only makes sense. I hear there’s going to be more to her story, and I’m excited to see where it takes us.

  • Umm.books

I came upon Satan's Affair from reading a couple of reviews from Haunting Adeline.

And was told it was to be read before reading the (Cat and Mouse duet). It's more of Could be read than Should.

It's not a bad novella, but it is a standalone and only barely introduces a character from haunting Adeline. And when I say barely, I mean only showing up for a chapter and/ or a small scene.

I will say though this could be a good introducer to H.D. Carlton if you want to get a feel for this author particular writing.

Thank you and can't wait to dive headfirst into more of this author writing. loved this so much ❤

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK DID I JUST READ?!??? LITERALLY MY MIND IS PUDDLE ON THE FLOOR TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK HAPPENED

  • Bex (Beckie Bookworm)

I’d describe this as an erotic horror I found it interesting and definitely unique. If your going to give this one a go be aware it’s crazy graphic and extremely gory. Sibby lives in the walls of a travelling haunted dollhouse it’s one of the attractions in a travelling Halloween faire. Raised in a cult and with a traumatic abusive past Sibby now along with her trusty henchman extracts what she calls demons from existence. Convinced she can smell the rot exuding from them Sibby definitely enjoys what she considers her calling.

This is bloody graphic and unapologetically brutal. Sibby is definitely mad as a box of frogs and with her manic childlike broken doll alter ego she revels in tormenting her victims playing games and even getting off on the bloody slaughter.

This is all told from Sibbys POV and her personality is certainly unique she also seemed at times so childlike despite being somewhere in her twenty’s. Her mood can flip on a whim and change in an instance. Her only company is her henchman who she adores and enjoys every benefit from there like a deadly little murder family with benefits.

We are also introduced to another character here Zade from haunting Adeline and I’m definitely intrigued to learn more about him his inclusion here definitely piqued my interest.

This went places I wasn’t expecting and had a fabulous twist I didn’t expect. It’s well written and I enjoyed it but there were times that I was also slightly bored as well. as It could get a little repetitive still this was ever so unique and I definitely rate it.

OMG WTF DID I JUST READ!

    "Ring a'round the rosies".
    "Pocket full of posies".
    "Ashes, ashes".
    "We all fall down".
    (Sibel giggles 😈)

This book is one of my favourites reads of the year. This is a dark, gruesome, twisted bloody book but I loved it.

I love Sibby, she was such an interesting character. I love her Henchmen too Mortis, Timothy, Jackal & Cronus. The fact that she could sense evil from hiding in the walls of a haunted house (Satan's Affair) and smell the rot in people or has she calls the (demons) who enter the travelling haunted house and then kills them in her playground is something different. Sibby has been doing this for five years and no one suspects a thing.

The ending I need answers it fu*ked me up. Sibby hallucinating her Henchmen NO I don't believe it I need answers. I wonder if there will ever be a follow-up book?

It took me so long to figure out how to write this review.

  • Rae (semi-hiatus)

    Well, that was quite something

The writing in this was so different than her other books? Idk if she rushed this one or if this was one of her previous works but it wasn’t the same quality as the others.

However, the creativity was there. This was a...fun (?) read. I loved the chaos of it, I guess is a better way to put it, considering how dark and depraved it was. It reminded me a lot of
Sick Fux. Sibby and Dolly had a lot of parallels, but I think Sibby’s character was done better.

I hope she appears more in
Hunting Adeline because I loved what I saw of her in
Haunting Adeline and this was a unique experience!

  • Susan Lowe

I found out about this book after reading Haunting Adeline. I had met Sibby in that book and loved her craziness. Well Satans Affair is that times 100. Sibby has had a more than traumatic rough life. She believes it is her responsibility to rid the Earth of evil one at a time. The demon peoples stench leads her to these evil people. Sibby's love for her henchman runs deep. This book is graphic, dark, and gory. I questioned what I was reading. And cringed at some of the details. The epilogue at the end was brilliantly done and definitely made me want more of Sibby. I'm excited she is going to get her own book.

    NOW AVAILABLE!!!

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you...
Three, four, better lock your door...
    Five, six, grab a crucifix...
Seven, eight, gonna stay up late...
    Nine, ten, never sleep again...

Wow!!! I'm still speechless, even though it's been almost a day that I finished reading this story...
Honestly, I don't know what to say about this book, other than it gave me too many contradicting feelings...
Frustration, repulsion, excitement, fascination were some of my many feelings in here.
Also, there were some spicy sex scenes that were rising the temperature in the room.
And that end left me completely speechless!!! And I just wanted more!!! LOL

"This is how we eradicate evil from the world, one town at a time."

Well, if you will take a look on the blurb of the book, you will take an idea of what will happen in here...
Satan's affair was a normal fairy, but it wasn't so normal after all...
In one of the haunted houses in there, something strange was happening every night...
A doll hidden behind the walls of her dollhouse, she was casting her judgement upon the depraved souls... And in the stroke of the midnight when everything went home, with her henchmen's help, she was becoming the executioner...

"I've already cast my judgement. And once I've made my decision, no one can stop me from carrying out my duty."

Well... I can't say more... Maybe it will be better for you to go in blindly... IF YOU DARE!!!
This was a really crazy story... As I was reading it, I was wondering why I kept doing it on myself, but the fascination of our heroine, Sibel, and where this story would lead us, kept me going...
I also felt kind of sad for this girl, even though I can not really explain the reasons why...

"There's no chance of his escape. And I love to play games."

This was a very deadly, dark and raw story. A psychological thriller with a splash of RH in it.
The atmospheric scenery that the author had built in here was helping matters ever more...
It was a story that will make you cringe, but at the same time, it will intrigue you very much.
And as me, at the end, you will be craving more.
Are you brave enough to enter the Satan's Affair???

"You can't hide from fate. That's the funny thing about destiny, even if you try to escape it, it will always find you."

  • ❀ Crystal ✿ - PEACE ☮ LOVE ♥ BOOKS

Well this book was a whole lotta crazy and tested even my twisted mind more than once. We have a ‘serial killer/demon hunting” heroine who rids the world of evil one death at a time. She’s creepy AF with a very childlike mentality, giggling and just plain getting off on gore. Using a traveling horror show as her cover the heroine hides and lives in one of the shows attractions using the hidden passageways and tunnels are her own personal murder Highway. I like me a good solid psycho character but this chick really tested my boundaries as she basically humped the legs of her sometimes dead, sometimes on the verge of dying victims. She even mentions at one point liking to wear the skin of her victims as a dress when she’s bored. Because really what else does one do when bored than channel their inner Texas Chainsaw killer and don the skin of their victims. 😳🤭And not only that but she likes to dole out pain, excruciating slow torture pain while she laughs and wears blood like a second skin. If that’s your jam this is absolutely for you. The end wrapped it all up nicely and has me questioning my own sanity lol. Definitely takes you out of your comfort zone that’s for sure. While the book is RH, without giving too much away I will say it’s not very relationship based. It really focuses more on her mental state and building up her character for a zinger of an ending. Another reviewer compares this to the film House of 1000 corpses and that’s pretty spot on. Combined with the rather unknown Matthew McConaughey flick Frailty and that wraps this book in a bow. If pure crazy is your thing then this is for you. Normal humans back far far away from this one 😈😈

Steam: JUST WOW creepy but hot and fucked up in so many ways (AGAIN read trigger warnings)
Trope: RH based on a traveling haunted house expedition where there is 1 women and 5 men (all psychopaths)
    ☻ ✰ ♡
I AM A WHORE FOR ANYTHING HALLOWEEN. I LOVE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH A CIRCUS or in this case a traveling fair of haunted houses!
I LOVED THIS BOOK. Even though I shouldn't…
The first chapter I was shook but like WHY WAS IT HOT. You get fucked up in so many ways and I loved it. The heroine is “damaged” and one hundred percent a psychopath (Ms. H.D Carlton is really good at fucked up main characters!) The main heroine dresses up as a creepy ass doll and her henchmen are dressed up as clowns. THE VIBE YALL. OMG this was definitely the darkest book i have read ever and i loved every second of it. If you want all kinds of fucked this is it, I serve you this book on a silver platter. Oh and did i mention this girl kills demons as well….😏

  • Toni

I was told I should really read this prior to Haunting Adeline so I did. And now I'm wondering why that was necessary pre-reading and hoping Haunting Adeline won't be like it.

The content is one thing... it's erotic horror, you can't be too shocked about the gore. But the disconnect for me is the characters. The fmc is childlike and that ruined a lot of her credibility and appeal. There isn't enough introduction to any of the men to form an attachment (with the exception of Z, perhaps).

Overall, this was a bit of a flop for me but I'm really hoping Haunting Adeline will be better.
