King of Darkness (The Malefica, #2) Reviews

I really can't praise this book enough, just like the first it was brilliantly written and I still can't get over the fact that this is only the author's second book! King of Darkness picks up where book one, Malefica ended. Not everyone is happy with the fact that Arielle is now queen or the fact that she has strange powers but she will still hold her head up high and protect her people the best she can.
We get to meet some interesting new characters in this book when Arielle goes on a journey to the Shadowlands. I'm a little sad with who she ended up within this book, cause honestly, I thought it would be the other guy. But after reading more of their interactions, I can see why she ended up with who she did.
Also that ending! I'm not sure I can forgive the author for that ending cause wow it really did kick me in the feels. Now I just need to try and sit on my hands and wait patiently, or in this case impatiently for book three. I really don't know what the author is going to throw at their readers in the next book. But I'm so there for it. -
Wow, wow, wow! Not what I was expecting.
I read this book only a few hours ago, unable to set it down or look away for even a moment.
King of Darkness begins where Malefica ended. Again I was completely transported into this odd twisted world. The writing was extremely visual. Beyond having a fully developed, unique, and strong main character this book's story line was impossible to predict. Not only was this book well paced without a boring moment and tons of exciting twists and turns, it also has plenty of wonderful characters.
All the gaspworthy twist and turns, combined with Arielle playing a very dangerous game, this series drips with tension and yearning. It is as captivating and inviting as it is daring and heartbreaking. I loved every minute of being immersed in this world!
Seriously, I can not recommend this book enough. I can't wait to see what happens next! -
“You do not take orders from anyone or anything.”
Queen Arielle of Dagengrath has found her throne, but now she must fight to keep it. Her council wishes to see her married off, and she can’t help but miss the life she lived in Luxerosi. When Zacharias, King of Luxerosi and her dear friend, comes to visit Dagengrath with a small entourage, they start combing through her father’s journals. The late King Jerald’s words are mostly madness, but one thing is clear: he wanted to take Arielle to the Shadowlands. Arielle then decides to take a risk, and journey to the Shadowlands with Zacharias, James, Erickson, and Irina in order to find what her father was looking for. But no one makes it out of the Shadowlands alive… so will they?
Eek, this book was flipping fantastic. I’m completely, totally obsessed. I absolutely adored how Zacharias and Arielle’s relationship developed over the course of this book. From their playful banter to heated looks, they are a dream to read about it. As I did in book one, I also really loved Erickson’s character. Hoover had me on the edge of my seat the whole entire time… I don’t know how I’m going to wait for book three! This book is an absolute must read! -
I loved the first book and eagerly waited for this book. The author did not disappoint with her unique blend of fantasy, action, and romance.
Picking up after book one, Arielle is now Queen and between dealing her magic, subjects and enemies she has her hands full. Her suitors, James and Zachariah, along with others come to ‘rescue’ to save her. But that is cast aside as they go on an adventure to take down an evil force.
The story is told from different POVs which I’m grateful for since in this book Arielle will be with the love of her life. I was a bit disappointed on who it was at first but then ended up loving the guy more and more as the story unfolded. And the leftover guy - looks like he has his hands full with Hale who was so much fun.
The first book lacked the sexy scenes but the author makes up for that several times over. Holy hotness indeed!
This book’s cliffhanger let me angry, sad and hopeful since it felt like a gut punch.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. -
Suspenseful and thrilling!
Book two of this amazing series had me on edge the whole time. My emotions were all over the place as I laughed and cried. The suspense had me biting my nails with anticipation of what would happen next. It is a thrilling rollercoaster ride of epic proportions.
Arielle is a fierce warrior queen with an amazing array of people to stand by her side not matter what is thrown at them. She goes through a lot emotionally and at times her heartache over decisions she has to make will gut you and break your heart for her.
This story keeps getting better and better as it progresses. The imagery and vividly written words are weaved brilliantly together making a story that is captivating, thrilling and so damn hard to put down.
I can’t wait to see how it all turns out in the end. -
I am in love with this series. Arielle is so brave, fierce and selfless that I just find myself constantly rooting for her throughout the book. Zacharius is so selfless it melts my heart throughout this novel. I really enjoyed watching Arielle's confidence with her power grow throughout the book and her relationship with Zacharias blossom. I also enjoyed James' romance throughout the story. This story is reaching a head and I NEED book 3 yesterday because I need to know what happens next.
