Two things got Rarity Jones through her breast cancer treatments: friends and books. Now cancer-free, Rarity is devoting her life to helping others find their way through the maze to healing. She’s opened a bookstore focusing on the power of healing—Eastern medicine, Western medicine, the healing power of food, the power of meditation, and the importance of developing a support community. To that end, she’s also started the Tuesday Night Survivors book club. With its openness to new-age communities, Sedona, Arizona, is the perfect fit for Rarity’s bookstore and the tightly knit group.

But their therapeutic unity is disrupted when one of their members suddenly goes missing. Martha has always kept to herself, never opening up much of her personal life to the group. Now she’s nowhere to be found. With her car abandoned on a trail and her dog left with a friend, Rarity is sure something terrible has happened—but will she be able to uncover Martha’s secrets before it’s too late?

The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club (Survivors' Book Club Mystery, #1) Reviews

I have read a number of this author's books now and I always enjoy them. This was no exception.

The idea of a book club for cancer survivors is a good one. I can understand someone in that situation wanting to spend time with others who have so much in common. The author handles the subject sensitively giving out information but not dwelling on the topic all the time.

The main characters provide plenty of promise for future books. Rarity is the owner of the bookshop and the instigator of the Club. (Must admit I really do not care for that name!) Sam is her best friend and the male interests for them both are Drew, a local policeman and Archer who runs a tourist explorer service.

The Sedona setting is very pleasant, there is a cute dog and I always like a book that takes place in a bookshop. I am looking forward to the next instalment.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Beginning a new cozy mystery series, especially one by an author whose books you already enjoy, is a treat. Lynn Cahoon's kicked off her new Survivors' Book Club Mysteries with the Tuesday Night Survivors' Club, a series focused on a group of women who have beat cancer and love to read. Set in the magical city of Sedona and led by ~30ish protagonist Rarity Cole, this one is sure to delight readers by offering something new and old at the same time. Cahoon keeps the messaging upbeat and also delivers a healthy dose of charm and reality. As a debut, it brings all the cozy setting history and character backstory you need to know, but it doesn't go overboard. Rarity is kind and intelligent, and she's hopeful to bring peace to fellow survivors' lives. I found the introduction of two potential suitors an intriguing option, and while it seems like one is set for her friend and the other for her, I see this being debated in the future. Archer is a worthy partner, but Drew has a stronger personality. Rarity's bestie is a sidekick with a punch, and a few others have potential. I look forward to learning more about Rarity's family too, and her ex will undoubtedly make an appearance in the future. Victim or killer, not quite sure yet! All that said, I enjoyed it and highly recommend giving this series a chance. I'll be ready for book two next year.

This was a quick and fun cozy mystery. Rarity has moved to Sedona, Az after recovering from breast cancer and has opened a bookstore next to her best friend Sam’s crystal shop. She starts a book club for survivors, but after one member is killed after the first meeting, they turn their attention to catching the murderer.

A cute puppy, sleuthing, friendships, and a little romance. For me the narration in the audiobook was a detractor - there were a nice variety of voices but Rarity was a little cold to me and Sam was over the top Southern. The romances also aren’t quite hitting right… but for the 1st in a series it was a good introduction to characters and I’ll likely try out the second one.

I throughly enjoyed this first story in popular Author Lynn Cahoon’s “A Survivors’ Book Club Mystery” series. The story expresses a lot of heart and compassion between the pages as the topic of cancer is gently discussed, as well as laying out a solid, entertaining mystery to follow.

Rarity Cole is a breast cancer survivor. She recently opened a bookstore, The Next Chapter, in downtown Sedona, Arizona. Her best friend, Sam Aarons, owns the crystal shop next door. Only one person attends Rarity’s first book club meeting on Tuesday night—Shirley—another breast cancer survivor. The next week, more survivors join. When an attendee goes missing, Drew Anderson with the Sedona Police questions Rarity, who barely knew the person, Martha; yet offers to foster her dog, Killer, until the woman is located. Killer is just too cute a pet character. 🥰

The plot is engaging and the main characters affable and relatable as the story moves along. Rarity begins to make new friends and a possible romantic interest in a trail hiker leader, Archer Ender. Rarity and Sam go undercover at an “alternative healing” spa the deceased was a frequent visitor to, and confirm something is “off” about the supposed cures they offer to cancer patients and survivors. The author neatly ties all the ends together to reveal the callous killer. I highly recommend this enjoyable cozy.

I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington Lyrical Publishing. All opinions are my own. Thank you.

This new series brings us a Survivors Club of women who has beat cancer. The club owner Rarity hopes to create a safe and nourishing environment, but when one club member goes missing a mystery of its own surfaces.

Full of mystery we get a good look into the characters lives. They form a book club and use it as a cover to secretly meet to solve this mystery. The story flows pretty good and you also get loads of insight into these cancer survivors life's and of their own everyday struggles. We also receive a little romance which I liked too. The narration for this book was really great. Overall, a very enjoyable book in this brand new series.

Thank you Netgalley and Tantor Audio for the opportunity to review this ARC in exchange for my honest option.

"The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club" was a fun book to read. It is the first in the series. Rarity Cole is the main character who has just opened her new book store The Next Chapter in Sedona, Arizona. She is a cancer survivor and her store specializes with books about cancer. Her best friend, Sam Aarons has a crystal shop down the street. Madame Zelda owns a fortune teller shop next door. Rarity decides to have a book club for cancer survivors. When she has her first meeting only one member, Shirley Prescott comes. The second meeting 5 members come. Drew Anderson, a detective from the Sedona Police Department comes and informs Rarity that Martha Redding is missing. Her dog, Killer, needs someone to take him until Martha is found. Rarity agrees to take him. Over the course of trying to find Martha Drew and Rarity becomes friends.. Rarity meets Archer who owns a touring company. The members of the club decide that they will try to find Martha who later is found murdered. This is where the story takes the reader on an adventure to find out who killed Martha to the surprising end.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in the series. The friendships that develop between the ladies in the book club as well as the romance that is starting between Rarity and Archer and Drew and Sam. make it more interesting.

Thank you NetGalley, Lyrical Press Books and Kensington Publishing Corp. for this ARC.

After surviving cancer, Rarity Cole moves to Sedona, Arizona, opening a bookstore and starting a book club for fellow cancer survivors. When a new member, Martha, disappears, Rarity, her best friend Sam, and the other book club members start investigating the case.

I’m not one much for cozy mysteries, as in a way I can find them oppressive when they part too much from reality. But I was drawn to The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club because of the unusual focus – a group of cancer survivors – especially when I found out the author was writing from experience in this regard.

I really liked all the characters, especially Rarity, Sam, and Drew, but more minor ones are also well-sketched, and they were ones I’d be glad to see more of in future books. The author keeps a good mix of coziness and authenticity going throughout the story, and I enjoyed the way she balanced more serious topics with humor. The mystery was also intriguing.

However, there were aspects about the book that I did not understand or enjoy at times. For example, what prompts the club to get so invested in Martha’s death, considering they’d only met her once? I was also a little dubious of the various romances going on. We don’t get to know Archer, Rarity’s love interest, very well, as he pops up in the story only a few times. Meanwhile, we see the policeman Drew much more often, but though I liked him I did not really buy the romance between him and Sam. Still, what I would like even less is if Drew and Rarity end up together!

I read this book as an audiobook, and I thought the narrator C.S.E. Cooney did a good job with it. She had a good variation in her voices, so that I could tell the plethora of characters apart easily, especially all the women. As (I think at least!) is necessary for a cozy mystery, she read in a soothing manner.

Overall, a nice cozy mystery, workmanlike in its qualities.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I have enjoyed reading several of Lynn Cahoon's series; she is a go to author for me. I think this new series is going to be another winner for her. I feel that this cozy mystery has a little bit of women's fiction woven into it. Rarity Cole is a new resident of Sedona, Arizona, having moved from St. Louis after going through breast cancer. She moved there for a change, to be close to her best friend, Sam, and she opened a bookstore after having a more stressful career. She started a book club for other survivors to have a place to talk about their situation, hopes, fears, how they look at life after their experience, and of course, books. What happened was they soon became also a sleuthing club as well when a member there for just one meeting was found murdered. I like the setting for the series as well as the characters. In particular, I like Rarity. She is a strong and likable person set to find the positive things in her life. And maybe a new love interest. The mystery is one that I did not easily figure out. I am looking forward to the next book that is already up for pre-order. I recommend for those who enjoy a more serious cozy mystery involving friends, new and old, and a sensitive issue that involves way too many women.
I received a complimentary copy from Kensington Books and Lyrical Press via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

After surviving cancer, Rarity Cole moves to Sedona, Arizona, and opens a bookstore. One of her ideas for connecting with the community is to start a book club for other cancer survivors. However, when Martha, one of the members, misses a meeting, Rarity becomes concerned. Can she and the other members figure out what happened to Martha?

I’ve been meaning to read one of Lynn Cahoon’s books for years, and I figured the start of a new series was a great time to do just that. Overall, I did enjoy the book. I did find the characters’ motivation for investigating the crime weak. On the other hand, I really liked the four main characters. The rest of the cast could be stronger, but that will come as the series progresses, right? I did find a few unfortunate errors in the book that should have been caught with good editing – a timeline issue and something setup that was dropped. I did get pulled into the plot. I pegged the killer a little early, but I didn’t have the motive figured out until Rarity put it together. I completely enjoyed the setting and I’m ready to go visit Sedona. The cancer survivor hook was good as well. I’ll definitely be back to visit these characters again.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book.

Fantastic character development and plot with the depth to entertain for hours! I rarely give cozy mysteries 5 stars, but this book definitely deserves a 5-star rating. The topic of cancer is often treated as something to be whispered about and shunned in discussion, but this book takes that topic and puts it right out front and center without it being disingenuous or disturbing. While the central theme is a woman starting over with a new career as a bookstore owner, a new home in Arizona and solving a murder along the way, it also shows a strong woman curating a group of friends that are also cancer survivors along with friends who have not been touched by cancer personally. The characters are so strong and supportive that it makes you wish they were in your own world! I absolutely can not wait to read what comes next for these characters in the next book!

  • Kim

Rarity Cole has moved to start the next chapter in her life, literally. She opens a book store she named The Next Chapter, which specializes in books relating to cancer. She is a cancer survivor herself and wanted to start a support system for those like her that have survived their treatments and won their battle with the disease. So when Rarity started a book club this is what she believed she was doing, however, when one of their members goes missing under suspicious circumstances the book club turns into a crime-solving club.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Rarity isn’t the typical protagonist that I usually read about, however, I really liked her. She is smart, fearless, compassionate, a fighter, and a survivor. The secondary characters are interesting as well and I can see great relationships forming in the group. The mystery is well-written. It moves at a great pace with plenty of suspects and twists and turns along the way to the big reveal. I recommend this book to cozy mystery fans

On a personal note, my mother is a breast cancer survivor. I always wanted to stay positive around her even after the treatments. So for me, this is a great way of getting incite into the feelings she may have been dealing with without being dark and depressing.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I have not been influenced by anyone.

A brand new series by the author Lynn Cahoon. This is only the second book I have read of hers after reading One Poison Pie which incidentally is the first book in her other paranormal 'A Kitchen Witch' cozy mystery series. Like One Poison Pie I got a chance to listen to the audiobook of The Tuesday Night Survivor's Club Mystery. I quite liked it. It is another series which has to do with a protagonist (in this case Rarity Cole) running a bookshop and a book club except the club is strictly for cancer survivors. The plot and the mystery is decent enough and the narration by C.S.E. Cooney is overall good except I felt that her voiceover for Rarity was a bit of a let down. Even though she is a cancer survivor, Rarity in the text comes across as a positive and fun person but Cooney makes her sound dull and disinterested.

My thanks to NetGalley, the audiobook publisher Tantor Audio and the author for the audio Arc of the book.

    Rating: ⭐⭐⭐✨💫.

This first book in a series was enjoyable; set in a bookstore, and with a sweet dog made an important part of the story, it is a charming place. This is definitely in the cozy mystery category, one I am enjoying more lately. The story was well developed, although the capture of the culprit did not flow quite as well as the rest of the book had. But it is certainly a series I will be looking forward to continuing. 3.5 stars, rounded up.

Ms. Cahoon has begun a new cozy mystery series set in Sedona, Arizona. As a big fan of Ms. Cahoon's other cozy mystery series, I was excited to give this new series a try. Rarity is a lovely main character. She has grit and determination as she begins a new life after winning her battle with breast cancer. Her best friend, Sam, is a wonderful character and shows Rarity true support throughout the story. The other book club members, who are also cancer survivors, add so much to the story line as they all pool their information resources in a search for the truth. I felt like all of the characters are organically growing and I'm looking forward to knowing them better as the series continues. The Tuesday Night Survivors Club is a quickly paced cozy with likable characters, plenty of twists, a few red herrings and a dramatic conclusion that kept me turning the pages.

I voluntarily reviewed a digital Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

    UPDATED to include audio review
Narrator C.S.E. Cooney, Tantor Audio, 7 hour duration

I thoroughly enjoyed the e-book version of this book and was delighted to see an audio version available. The story's focus on a group of soon-to-be friends who are brought together by them having survived cancer could be a downer but the book was more a story of friendship, new beginnings, and inner strength than cancer. Kudos to author Lynn Cahoon for handling this potentially tricky subject matter (Cahoon is a survivor, too) and making it work. And, all this circles about a murder that the book club members are determined to look into, even after being cautioned not to do so by the town detective, Drew. It's an intriguing mystery, highlighted by the growing friendship of the group. See the original review below my thoughts on the audio version for more insight.

As for the audio version, although I was having trouble keeping which voice was which straight initially, I realized at some point that I'd nailed it and just automatically knew who was speaking when the narrator spoke as the book progressed. This was done through both subtle changes of pace, emphasis, accent and inflection as well as forcefulness, if that makes sense. In other words, you quickly could pinpoint the more confident, forceful personalities of the group. As for Rarity, the main character, the narrator's voice seemed perfect, showcasing her kindness and concern for all. The voice made me feel that Rarity was someone I'd like and trust.

One of the things that came through to me much more forcefully in this audio version was how much Rarity adored the dog she unexpected found herself with. Hearing it, I realized how often the dog was the topic of conversation or interest, not to mention that Rarity talked to it frequently, just as most of us owned by dogs do. In addition, besides these frequent mentions the author also gets in subtle bits of info on dog care and all involved with owning a dog, including the importance of vet care, the need to tag and identify your pets, and the need for proper nourishment and such items as dog beds, toys, leashes, and, well, the list can be endless as any dog owner knows. I honestly didn't really notice this via simply reading. The chapter changes were simply a stated "Chapter__" whatever with no disruption to the flow.

Bottom line, a fine addition to the editions available. Thanks to #NetGalley and #TantorAudio as well as publisher #KensingtonBooks for making this audio version available. I should note that my own little dog listened as I did and says Killer deserves extra treats.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW OF eBOOK:
I've become a huge fan of Lynn Cahoon. This book only made me more of a fan. Skillfully centered about a cancer survivor book group, Cahoon deftly weaves in introductions to new characters and new mysteries without either making cancer the central theme or ignoring it. As someone who was a bit wary of reading this book given my own family's losses from the disease, I have to admit to almost passing it up. I'm glad I didn't. Yes, cancer survival isn't hidden in some dark corner in the book but it is more the thing that brought this intriguing cast on new characters together. With nods to the worries and concerns that all survivors have, Cahoon, who has survived her own cancer journey, doesn't try to pretend the disease doesn't exist. Instead, she uses it to pull people together, form and strengthen friendships, and, oh, yes, solve the murder of a group member. I had no real clue who the murderer was until the reveal, so it definitely will keep you guessing.

The characters were likeable and it was interesting to see the dynamics of friendship and, hmm, maybe romantic relationships developing. I was actually sorta meh on Archer until the end, maybe because it didn't seem like we got to know him as well as we did Drew the detective, but he won me over when he showed up with flowers after Rarity's regular cancer checkup. This was in sharp contrast to her last boyfriend who pretty much ignored than left her while she was ill. Her best friend Sam, who it took me a moment initially to figure out was probably a Samantha, not male, has always had her back and despite a brief flair of jealousy on Sam's part, still had Rarity's back. We all need friends like that who will tamper down their own emotions to support us. Drew, of course, seemed like a winner from the time he told Rarity about the now owner-less dog, Killer. Dog lover that I am, I had to admire Rarity for agreeing to take in Killer even when she was most likely envisioning a large, scary dog. It didn't take Killer long to worm his way into her heart, however.

I liked the characters and how well the medical issues surrounding potentially fatal illness was worked smoothly into the story. This included doctors who may or may not be real doctors pushing miracle cures, treatments, and pushing their products on the most vulnerable. Grr, but enough said on that topic, The key theme here isn't medical. It's friendship. It's good to have friends and Rarity is slowly but surely finding friends and making her own place in Sedona, New Mexico. I'm looking forward to following this series.

Thank you #NetGalley and #KensingtonBooks - #LyricalPress for introducing me to Rarity and the rest of her growing circle of friends, not to mention Killer. Treats for Killer!

  • The Cozy Review

When I first started reading Tuesday Night Survivor’s Club, I wasn’t sure if I would like it, and it wasn’t until I was almost halfway finished that I began to enjoy Rarity’s character. The premise was original and a nice twist on what can be a delicate subject. Cancer is not a joking matter, but you have to have a sense of humor to get through the treatments, begin healing, and become a survivor. A book club dedicated to supporting cancer survivors would be welcome by most people who have had to go through all of the difficulties, challenges, and fear. All of this is what makes this story and this writer special.

The characters are just beginning to develop, and I already have a favorite, but I will keep that to myself. The victim, a survivor of cancer and in the middle of the healing process, is perfect, even though she only appears in the book in the first pages. Martha is memorable in many ways, and finding her killer will lead the characters and the readers on a journey they weren’t expecting. The few suspects that there are, have great motives that are believable. And Killer, the victim's dog, will make you want to protect her, hold her, and ensure nothing ever hurts her. Once the murderer is revealed, readers will realize that it couldn’t have been anyone else, even if they still have a few hidden doubts. The evidence only points in one direction, and even with the well-crafted twists and turns, following the story to the right conclusion is fun and easy.

Tuesday Night Survivor’s Club allows readers to learn about some of the issues that survivors of cancer face in real life. How the healing process takes different forms for each person and what they may keep hidden from those around them. The characters are memorable, the circumstances ripped from reality, and the conclusion filled with everything a cozy mystery fan could want. Lynn Cahoon knows how to craft a meaningful story that will keep readers entertained and informed. I look forward to the next installment in this series.

The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club is a small-town bookshop cozy and the
first book in a new mystery series by
Lynn Cahoon. Due out 14th June 2022 from Kensington on their
Lyrical imprint, it's 175 pages and will be available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

This is a light and fluffy cozy mystery built around a strong romance/women's fiction framework. The titular Survivors' Club is a group of women who gather to discuss books as well as their previous cancer diagnoses and treatments (that's the survivor part). When one of their number is murdered, they decide to investigate. The author is quite adept and prolific; she knows what she's doing. As such, although it's almost entirely dialogue driven, it was readable and moderately engaging. There were several places in the story I found myself rolling my eyes over some less than believable dialogue, but I persevered to the end and found the denouement and resolution satisfying if a bit predictable. There was no real push-back from official law enforcement when Rarity & co. decide to investigate the crime and that rankled a bit.

The unabridged audiobook has a run time of 7 hours and is narrated by
C.S.E. Cooney. The book is full of dialogue from characters of varying ages and accents, both male and female. She does manage to keep them mostly distinct from one another. Her rendering of main protagonist Rarity Jones, has some odd breathy, almost adenoidal quality which I never warmed to, unfortunately. Her voice for Rarity's best friend Sam is some eldritch mix of deep Louisiana bayou with an uptonal Georgia twang (everything she says sounds like a question) and although the character herself is sympathetic, her accent made me want to hop back over to the ebook format. I split the book about 50/50 between audio and print, and I honestly think I'd've enjoyed it more if I had stuck to print format only.

I absolutely love bookstore cozies, and there are some good name-drops included here. It was fun to figure out which books she's discussing even when she doesn't name them outright. I'll be sticking around for a while to see how the series develops.

Three and a half stars for the book overall, two and a half for the audiobook narration.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club by Lynn Cahoon is the debut of A Survivors’ Book Club Mysteries. I found this story easy to read. It contains good writing and realistic characters. The story is set in Sedona, Arizona where Rarity Jones, a breast cancer survivor, has opened The Next Chapter, a bookstore. The bookshop is next to a crystal shop owned by her best friend, Sam Aarons. Rarity needed a fresh start after beating breast cancer and her fiancé deserting her. She advertises for a Tuesday night book group for cancer survivors. I like the group of women that come together each week to support each other and discuss books (plus eat snacks). When one of the members is murdered, the group becomes a sleuthing club as well. The ladies ask questions, search for clues, and do “research” trips. Detective Drew Anderson is in charge of the case. He is a nice man who becomes friends with Rarity. They bond over the victim’s dog, Killer which comes to live with Rarity. Drew accepts information from Rarity along with her help a time or two. The mystery is straightforward with a red herring, several suspects, and good clues. The crime can be solved early on, but I did not know why. I enjoyed following Rarity and the group as they worked together to identify the guilty party. The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club is an emotional novel as the ladies discuss their cancer and what they endured. You need to be strong and have a good support system if you are to get through cancer treatments. I can tell the author has knowledge on this subject. I like Lynn Cahoon’s engaging writing style. She also created realistic and relatable characters. I enjoyed getting to know Rarity, Sam, Drew, and the others. I know we have just touched the surface in The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club. There is also a new love interest for Rarity and her friend, Sam. The descriptions of Sedona were lovely. It sounds like a beautiful area. I like it when authors include real life locations in their books. The main theme of this engaging cozy mystery is friendship. I liked seeing women support each other instead of tearing each other down. I agreed with Rarity’s description of a mammogram machine. It is a painful torture device (definitely invented by a man). I am looking forward to reading Secrets in the Stacks when it comes out later this year. There is a recipe for Texas Sheet Cake at the end. The Tuesday Night Survivors’ Club is a warm cozy mystery with a novel bookstore, a cancer survivors’ book club, a missing member, a cute Killer, a dedicated detective, a good-looking guide, and an astute bookshop owner.

“The Tuesday Night Survivors' Club” by Lynn Cahoon book one in the Survivors Book Club Mystery series. I was sad when I heard her Cat Latimer Mystery series was ending so was happy when I heard about the new cozy mystery series. I found it to be just as enjoyable and entertaining full of loveable characters and a furbaby. Releases June 14th, 2022

What a great start to a new cozy mystery series it was engaging, really well-written, set in the desert town of Sedona Arizona and we can’t forget a furbaby named killer. As most of my friends know I’m a fan girl of Lynn’s books and I can see this series becoming another favourite.

The protagonist Rarity was intelligent, likeable, and the friends she made were people I would like to hang out with especially Sam and Drew. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the story and the instant romance whilst trying to figure out the killer. It doesn’t matter what illness or troubles one has, a strong support system of friendship and trust is always a must, so why not have that with your book club. Personally through online book club I have found some of my strongest support so I could totally see Lynn’s vision in the storyline. The book club does soon become the sleuthing club , which made me chuckle as they did love a mystery…

The mystery was well written and had plenty of suspects who wanted the victim dead. I did suspect the killer early on but there were a few red herrings so I wasnt 100% sure until close to the end when the final piece fell into place.

I can't wait for the next instalment!

I highly recommend this cozy mystery series to all my friends who love a cozy with a strong support system of friends in it.

I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from Kensington Books and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A truly enjoyable beginning to a new series by prolific cozy mystery author Lynn Cahoon. The premise is unique in that the mystery is solved by a book club of cancer survivors. They are led by book store owner Rarity. The mystery is interesting and kept me interested and the setting of Sedona adds to the enjoyment. Rarity is quite likable and her sidekick friend Sam is a lot of fun. I’m definitely looking forward to the next entry.

I so enjoyed this book!! I love Lynn Cahoon's writing anyway, and this one certainly lived up to my expectations. Rarity is a breast cancer survivor who has moved from St. Louis to Sedona AZ to follow her dream of opening a bookstore. As one of the new programs, she starts a Survivors Book Club, that meets Tueday nights (hence the series title). Not too long after the first meeting she attends, one of the women is murdered. The others begin to discuss the murder, and the Survivors Book Club becomes a Sleuthers Book Club. Lots of red herrings, plenty of interesting characters and a great story make this an excellent first installment in this new series!!

  • Heidi Prockish

I loved this book. The writing, the characters, the story, all of it!! I cannot wait for the opportunity to read book 2.

Rarity is a cancer survivor and the owner of a bookshop in Sedona, she starts a book club so she can connect with other survivors. When one of the members goes missing it is all hands on deck to solve the case.

I have never read this author before but I will make an effort to read more from her .

The Tuesday Nights Survivor Club is the first book in a brand new series by Lynn Cahoon, The Survivors Club Mystery Series.

As a cancer survivor myself, I cannot express the GRATITUDE for having this representation in a cozy mystery series.

Rarity Cole is a breast cancer survivorand she has just opened a bookstore, The Next Chapter, in d Sedona, Arizona. Her best friend, Sam , is the owner just next door of the crystal shop.

The first night of the book club, there was only one member, Shirly, who is also a breast cancer survivor. After another week there are more attendees. Only one person attends Rarity’s first book club meeting on Tuesday night—Shirley—another breast cancer survivor. The next week, more survivors join. One of the members go missing and an investigation ensues.

The characters are well developed, complex and extremely relatable.
The mystery is perfect paced dropping clues and red herrings along the way.

I did not guess who had done it until the final reveal. I enjoy the possible romance that will likely develop in future books.

A fantastic first book in a brand new series! I cannot wait for more books in this series.

Rarity Cole is the proud owner of a bookshop, called The Next Chapter, that sells titles with a focus on Eastern and Western medicine, food, meditation and other potential powers of healing. She also starts the Tuesday Night Survivors' Club a book club that meets, you guessed it, on Tuesday nights! However, when Martha, one of the members, misses a meeting, Rarity becomes concerned. When Martha's car is found abandoned, Rarity is certain something nefarious or bad has happened and starts looking.

Set in Sedona, Arizona I really enjoyed this series debut. The mystery is one that I did not manage to puzzle out. Very highly recommended, I'm eager to continue the series with Secrets in the Stacks, due out in November 2022.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel, at my own request, from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I found myself glued to the pages of this fascinating book. Rarity is a cancer survivor and wants nothing more than to help others, so she uses her books as a way to reach out to people. Creating a survivors book group is one of the ways Rarity wants to connect, however, when a group member mysteriously disappears, the group tries to solve the crime. This is not your traditional cozy mystery, it's so much more than that, and I recommend this book to all book lovers. I would love to see this series continue on. #TheTuesdayNightSurvivorsClub #NetGalley.

    Dollycas’s Thoughts

Breast Cancer survivor Rarity Cole has moved to Sedona, Arizona, and opened a bookstore but her real mission is to support survivors of breast cancer and the after-effects. Friends and books are what got her through her treatments so soon after opening she set up the Tuesday Night Survivor’s Book Club. After a slow start, the group grew to include several women in different stages in their cancer journeys.

Martha seemed like a reluctant member of the group only attending one meeting. But then the group is shocked to find out the woman is missing and has left her dog, Killer, behind. Rarity quickly decides to foster the dog until Martha is found. The Tuesday Night group soon adds Sleuther’s to their name when they just can’t help themselves from doing their own investigation. Soon they have notebooks with lists and are setting up a murder board all in their efforts to find out what happened to Martha and why?

Will they be able to pull together to solve the case or will they find themselves in peril when they question the wrong person or push someone too far? Time will tell . . .

Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the start of the pandemic was really hard. While I had a great team of doctors, nurses, technicians, and counselors and a lot of support from my family, in-person support groups were shut down really quick. Groups that were already formed did their best with emails and Zoom meetings but none were accepting new members. I tried several online options but just couldn’t find the right fit but I got through it so maybe support groups just weren’t for me.

As soon as I started reading this book I realized The Tuesday Night Survivor’s Club would have been perfect for me now. Like Rarity, I find solace in books and after my diagnosis, I ordered a bunch of books to learn about what I was facing but after you get through your treatments you need something different. Rarity selected some great books for her group. She chose fiction books, cozy mysteries, women’s fiction, and books where women struggled with other things besides cancer. Books that would open up great discussions. I hope in future books she includes a list of the books.

Rarity Cole is an excellent protagonist I identified with her right away. I loved that she took in Martha’s dog. She has a great friend in Sam Aarons. Sam convinced Rarity to come to Sedona and she pushes and pulls Rarity is such a supportive way. Through Sam Rarity meets Archer Ender. He runs Enders Tours and leads several hikes in the area. We also meet Drew Anderson of the Sedona Police Department. He comes into the picture when Martha goes missing but his parents are also in town and playing matchmaker. They think Sam is perfect for their son. And of course, the members of the book club, Shirley, Holly, Malia, Kim, and Martha who goes missing. All Ms. Cahoon’s characters are well crafted for this first book in the series. We get to know them well enough to get invested in their lives but she has left plenty of room for growth.

The mystery was very well-plotted with serious and humorous happenings as the amateur sleuths do their best to figure out who killed Martha. Sedona is a place open to a lot of places offering “new age” or “alternative healing” cures so that part of the story was very interesting. I did have a couple of suspects firmly at the top of my list but wavered a bit as the story continued. I was happy to say I pulled myself back in line to hone in on the right person before all was revealed.

What really captured me about this story was that the author drew from her own cancer journey. Because of that, I felt like a kindred spirit especially when she stated in her dedication that a nurse gave her a bag of cozy mysteries to read during her cancer treatments and that “made all the difference”. Cozy mysteries have always been my favorites so I always made sure my Kindle was fully charged before each chemo treatment. In fact, I know I read more than one book by Lynn Cahoon during my cancer journey.

We are now both survivors but like most survivors that fear of cancer returning is always there. That is why for me escaping into a good book is so important and The Tuesday Night Survivor’s Club was a Perfect Escape. A real-life issue teamed up with an excellent mystery. I am excited to see when the author takes these characters next.

THE TUESDAY NIGHT SURVIVORS' CLUB (SURVIVORS' BOOK CLUB MYSTERY #1)
    BY: LYNN CAHOON

What a lovely and warm cozy mystery story this turned out to be. As I started writing my review I saw the wonderful surprise that following this amazing reading experience I won't be saying goodbye to I hope most of the characters', as this I have just discovered is #1 to this fantastic new series. What a better setting for this cozy mystery than in a bookstore in picturesque Sedona. In my vision of Sedona, I imagine lemony yellow and bright sunshine and my favorite hot weather. I just might love to live there myself or at least take a vacation there to find out if it is as quaint as the descriptions were while I immensely enjoyed this. I loved all of the characters' as they are all extremely likable. I wish that the book club featured were in my community because it would be my pleasure to join them.

Rarity Cole is new to Sedona having moved from St. Louis and she opened her new bookstore, called the Next Chapter Bookstore. Right away she decides to form a book club which is filled with Cancer survivors'. Her new best friend owns a shop right besides hers named Samantha who sells healing crystals and Sam becomes a member even though she never had cancer of any kind. On the first night of the book club one person arrives, but she is friendly and both her and Rarity have high hopes the next meeting will draw more members and it does. There is a round robin where they all go around their group and are introducing themselves when one grumpy new addition to the club named Martha doesn't want to share any of her personal business and she is the one who goes missing.

Rarity had suggested that they all take the bookstore's phone number and she asks for the other members contact information and soon all of them exchange phone numbers with a friendly group member. This is in case a member of the book club can't make it for any reason so the rest of the book club doesn't worry about a member who fails to show up.
Rarity goes for a hike with Sam and she meets the detective's parents. The only detective assigned to the case is Drew whose parents' Rarity has already met. Her book club takes it upon themselves with Rarity and Sam being the main sleuth's and Rarity gives tips to Drew who is investigating what happened to Martha.

Rarity asks Drew to drop off Martha's dog to her for her to take care of while the search for Martha takes place. The dog is an affectionate Yorkshire Terrier named Killer. I know! What kind of name is that for an intuitive friendly adorable little pet.

I just adored this cozy mystery with the charming setting with a well meaning cast of characters where everyone is kind. This has become my new favorite series and I am looking forward to the next one as I enjoyed spending time with all of these characters. There is a bonus with a recipe of a rich chocolate cake with chocolate glaze. There was so much talk of delicious snacks I am eating chocolate truffles as I type my review and it's morning. I highly, highly recommend adding this delightful novel on your to be read list. It is a light, quick and fun easy read that isn't graphic and won't give you nightmares. It is a cozy mystery that is full of heart.

The Tuesday Night Survivor’s Club Earns 5/5 Book Spines…Engaging & Entertaining!

What do you do when given a second chance at life? Rarity Cole moves to Sedona, Arizona, and opens a bookshop, The Next Chapter. She hopes to offer others insights into their “next chapter,” so she advertises a book club for survivors of cancer. The first meeting of the Survivor’s Book Club was a let down, but Shirley’s lone friendly face did not deter Rarity’s resolve. The following Tuesday attendance was up it’s Shirley returning along with Holly, Malia, Kim, and Martha. The bonding began over shared experiences, books, and cookies, but Rarity is concerned about introvert Kim and Martha’s “I thought we’d be discussing books” attitude. However, when at the group’s next gathering, one member is missing. Martha. Rarity thought she might not return because she seemed so against sharing her personal experiences with cancer, but after making a few calls with no results, the group decides to take on the search for their new friend which leads to a devastating discovery.

It’s happy reading with Lynn Cahoon’s first book in her new series sharing a clever, not too complex mystery, multi-generational characters, a bookshop, new age talk, a hint of romance, and a dog named “Killer.” The survivor’s turned sleuther’s club is an entertaining mix of women varied in age and temperament and experience with cancer, but they share a favorable connection to books helpful to their recovery; books, some say, don’t abandon or divorce them. The victim’s background and surprise connections are slowly revealed, but the local detective isn’t thrilled that the ladies are getting actively nosy. He is handsome, unattached, but he’s not looking for a relationship. He keeps running into Rarity, though, which hints to a more personal relationship beyond bonding over “Killer” or the “killer.” “Girl code” issues are raised as to who has a free avenue with McDreamy. Lynn’s writing style is always one I enjoy with descriptive language, clever themes, and characters that are equally strong and flawed. The talk about surviving a potentially life-ending disease is not at the center and those not touched by cancer or someone close who had cancer need not shy away from this book or the series. It is insightful into marvelous characters with an engaging mystery, and a top contender for Top Read for 2022.

Disclosure: I received an ARC from Kensington thru NetGalley. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.
