Murder in the Cottage Reviews

  • Scott aka Prison Preacher

Read like a little tramp sex novelThere was almost zilch about this edition to like.First the new New Superintendent Newton is stereotyped to the hilt, as nothing but a jerk. I have seen this stereotyped character in series than I can count, and all have harmed the series. But what really has made this series hit bottom is all the sex. Just about every female character with the exception of three wives and a grandma are nothing but sex tramps. The first one was a very good read, but everyone since has slid down into trash. Is there really that large of a market of readers who get there jollies reading about sex?I’ll come back to the next Ashford book to see if the author changes his mindset, but sadly I doubt it and I can add him to an list of authors to ignore.

Murder in the cottageI have given this book five stars because it's the type of book I like lots of red herrings leading me up the garden path. The end was a complete surprise that I did not see coming

Murder in the CottageWhen an author related to a witch who was burnt moves into the area Jim Ashworth soon has his hands full.I'm my opinion the best book in the series by Brian Battison so far. Easy to read and gripping from the start this is very enjoyable.Highly recommended.

An enjoyable story.Really loved this book it's got good characters and a end I did not see coming. I will be reading by this author.

Although this book was published in 1996 the attitudes of the characters could well have come from the Dark Ages. Unbelievable charicatures in a world where women are divided into bedworthy or frumpy, every man is a lecher and all women are nymphomaniacs. The author never lets an opportunity go by to indulge in a few paragraphs of gratuitous sexual activity and the ludicrous plot has holes than a cobweb. I felt that the publisher had given the writer a check list of things to include in the story witches curse still affecting credulous villagers, underage sex, immoral tabloid reporter, delinquency, sex, sex, personal battle between high ranking police officers etc, etc. Don't waste your time(and money) on this book when there are so many better ones out there waiting to be read.

Another good Ashworth novel. Yes, there are in this one a couple of things you have to swallow and accept, but the atmosphere is great and the character conflicts add to the drive. Battison doesn't mess about, he just gets on with telling a fast paced yarn. The of his books you read and get to know the characters the they can be appreciated.
