A fun, humorous cozy mystery - with witches!

Amelia’s spells have improved, but her baking has not. She needs to make enough dough to save her crumbling cake store business. Yet that is soon the least of her worries, when a body is found on her porch and her new friend, Dianne, becomes the main suspect.

As Amelia tries to clear Dianne’s name, she finds that some people in her life are not what they seem. Craig finally whisks Amelia away on a date, but Amelia’s house has something to say about the matter, much to her distress.

The police say that solving the murder will be a piece of cake, but are they keeping her on a knead-to-know basis?

Will Amelia discover why Alder Vervain has been watching her?

Will she rise to the occasion and solve the murder, or will she become the next victim?

All Morgana Best books are clean cozy mysteries.

Dizzy Spells (The Kitchen Witch, #2) Reviews

The second book in this series is as entertaining as the first.

Amelia Spelled is the worst person to have inherited a cake shop since she is totally unable to cook anything without burning it or, worse, setting fire to the surroundings. Luckily, she has her assistant, Thyme, who can bake as many perfect cakes as you could wish for.

As well as the shop there is a sentient house which I love. When a dead body is found on the porch there is even a moment when the house is a suspect! After that Amelia herself is the main suspect so she sets out to clear her name along with Thyme's help.

Lots of fun, two beautiful cats, and a promise of even greater magic for Amelia, even if she never learns to cook. I will be continuing with this series.

Amelia Spelled was still unable to cook, so it was fortunate that the cake shop she'd inherited from her aunt - along with the house - came with her now good friend Thyme. Thyme was an excellent cook, with cakes, cupcakes and the like turning out to perfection. Amelia only succeeded in setting the oven on fire.

When Amelia discovered a dead body on her front verandah, she was horrified. The police were suspicious of a new resident in town, Dianne but once they'd cleared her, Amelia became a suspect. Who was sending photos to the police with her and the victim together? Amelia had never met him before. Could she discover the culprit before she was jailed for murder?

Dizzy Spells is the 2nd in The Kitchen Witch series by Aussie author Morgana Best and it was fun and entertaining. There were several suspects, some witchy spells and two adorable cats (Amelia's familiars). But the best character of all is Amelia's house! Recommended.

In this second novel, new Witch, Amelia Spelled is still learning to bake a cake, and not succeeding at it. Through various fires etc., her patient employee and friend, fellow witch, Thyme continues to try and teach her. After all, Amelia does own the Cake shop.

To add to the stress, there is a new 'psychic' in town, Dianne, and she is very mixed up. She gives Amelia a warning and then the poor girl, Amelia that is, arrives home to find a dead man on her porch. Who? What? and Why?

The plot thickens as the police in Bayberry Creek, Australia begin to look at Amelia as a suspect in the death. Someone is setting her up. And, why is Alder Vervain so interested in her and also investigating her for some unknown client?

With the protection of her house, her cats, Willow and Hawthorne, and the love of her new 'witchy' friends, Amelia will prevail.

This is a quick read, fun and entertaining. You do wonder the 'why?' of this murder mystery. It was fun to see the house' personality change. What am I talking about? Be sure to read volume one for the answers. Enjoy.

Fun holiday reading. I suspect that I may have known the author about 20 years ago, which is amusing.

  • Meegy

I am loving this cosy mystery, any cosy witch mystery I jump on straight away.
I am sad about the love interest though, he seemed like such a decent guy.

  • Judith Blaauw-Klaver

    Fun little snack, fast read.

    Settling into a New Life?

Book 2 of this fun series. Of course there is a murder but Amelia and her new friends start investigating especially as the body appears on her porch.
They have lots of suspects to try and narrow down just who was the murderer.
    Highly recommend this book.

Dizzy Spells is book two of the Kitchen Witch series by Morgana Best. Amelia is worried her spells are improving, but she is still having problems with her baking, and she needs to improve to save her business. However, this was soon forgotten when the body was dropped on her doorstep, and her friend became the prime suspect. Amelia decided to investigate to clear her friend and find the killer. The readers of Dizzy Spells will continue to follow Amelia to discover what happens.

Dizzy Spells is a lovely, cozy mystery, and I engaged with the story from the first page and continued to the end. I love Morgana Best's portrayal of her characters and how they interact with each other throughout this book. Dizzy Spells is well-written and researched by Morgana Best. I like Morgana Best's description of Dizzy Spells' settings, which completed the book's plot.

    I recommend this book.

I am really enjoying this series and I liked this installment. Amelia is a likeable main character and the side characters add flavor to the book. Even though I guessed early on who had done it the story line kept me engrossed and the preview to the next book at the end has me wanting to grab it right away. I laughed at the house that can tell if someone is good or evil but honestly lets get a cop in the series who actually knows what to do. How did the cops miss obvious stuff.
A really good, quick moving fun read.

Didn't love this one quite as much as the first, but it was still enjoyable. The cast of characters is fun, and the dark and mysterious Alder Vervain is someone I'm looking forward to seeing more of.

I've enjoyed that so far, in both books,

i just love this series. the characters are so engaging. amelia's friends are so positive and supportive. she needs it as she gets into the most awful situations.

as the series progresses, we gain more individuality and insight into ruprecht, camino, thyme and the others. we also start to gain more characters, all with their own quirks and attitudes.

    definitely a series worth reading.

This was a fun and humorous adventure in Australia. Amelia’s baking has not improved, but she is surrounded by a good group of friends that help her out of some complicated situations, including another dead body. At least this time her baking doesn’t seem to be to blame. It was a bit disjointed, but still enjoyable. I’m curious to see how the news from Adler will impact the next book in the series.

Hilarious, I laughed so hard reading this book! Madame Dianne is truly something and the mail lady too, I enjoyed this mystery very much. Although I knew quite early who was the culprit, it was enjoyable to see Miss Spelled solve the case once again with her special way. I like her friends very much and can't wait to read more about her, them and whatever will happen next!

4/5 stars for this Cozy Mystery! Once again, don't be fooled by this cover, this is such a great series! I highly recommend The Kitchen Witch Series for any fans of cozy mysteries, with a bit of magical realism thrown in. I love the characters and the story! The audio is great! These should totally be turned into Hallmark Movies....hmm, wonder who I should contact about that....

  • Nadine

    Enjoyable and surprising.

No, a baker she is not! Amelia tries and tries, but fails every time… There’s so much humour in this book, and there’s lots of quirkiness! It was entertaining, and the mystery kept me guessing. Twists and turns made this an enjoyable, surprising read.

  • Jen

I get really annoyed when there are grammatical errors and words missing from sentences..at least a dozen words were missing from sentences throughout the story. It's really frustrating. Was there no proofreading? It feels really rushed compared to the first book. Disappointed.

  • Cheri Tipler

    Good read

I'm just loving this The Kitchen Witch series. Mystery, Magick, Cupcakes, and a relationship that's bound in some way to bring them together
