Jolie Vines never fails to amaze me. She is so consistent in her writing; creating an incredible world full of characters I’ve grown to love so much. Counting the original McRaes and all their offspring in the spin-off series, we are now on book number 14 (I think!) yet not once have I felt that Jolie has compromised on the quality of the storylines; there’s no repetition or unnecessary content to fill the pages, they genuinely keep getting better and better.

Cameron and Elise’ story was one of my favourites to date. The development of their friendship into a relationship had me completely hooked and I was rooting for them right from the offset. Like all his male relatives before him, Cameron was your typical McRae - strong, stubborn (at times), sexy as hell and utterly swoonworthy. The way he loved Elise so fiercely had me falling so hard for him. These two really were perfect together.

Another job well done, Jolie. I can’t wait to see where the rest of this series goes.

5 star Review of Hunted (Wild Mountain Scots #2) by Jolie Vines
From the first chapter to the last I was totally riveted to Elise and Cameron’s story. This is a friends to lovers story that was well written and drew me in and refused to let me go.

Hunted is the first book in the Wild Mountain Scots series by Jolie Vines and it was an entertaining read. There is romance, mystery and suspense with characters who are strong and easy to relate too.

I love that her heroines are strong, sassy and feisty and not afraid to fight for what they believe in. The chemistry between Cameron and Elise is smoking hot and there were times that I I was on the edge of my seat whilst reading. The danger was realistic and I was cheering for Cameron to keep Elise safe. This is a roller coaster of a read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

    Overall Grade: 4.5 ⭐️

Just when I think that Jolie Vines can’t make me fall in love with one of her heroes, she proves me wrong. Hunted, Vines’s newest book, features a hero in her Wild Mountain Scots series, the next-gen of her wildly popular Marry the Scots series, who is hands-down one of my favorites overall. I was intrigued with Cameron in the first book of this newest series, Obsessed. There has always been a steady quietude to Cameron, the son of William “Wasp” and Taylor whose story is featured in Picture This. Interestingly enough, Wasp was also one of my favorites in that series for the same qualities. As Hunted progresses, Cameron’s surety of spirit seen in Vines’s earlier books makes him more and more attractive. He isn’t flashy; he is dependable, trustworthy, and capable. Even more, he adores his heroine, Elise, a film actress ensconced in the poisonous world of Hollywood. While their chemistry isn’t entirely clear in the first eighth of Vines’s book, one of my criticisms of her book, Vines deftly crafts it over the course of their edge-of-your seat story.

After the first quarter of Hunted, you find a story that captivates you. One of the main reasons I adore Jolie Vines is her ability to create heroes like Cameron who absolutely adore their heroines to the point of bodily sacrifice. Each of her heroes would lay their life down for the woman they love. They don’t even need to know their heroine for long, and their dedication becomes otherworldly. Cameron and Elise are much of this. And this reader never tires of reading Vines’s heroes because they make me believe in this soulful love.

Underlying this foundation is Hunted’s story, one that is so familiar to anyone who reads the headlines. I love that Vines decided to tackle sexual harassment and the struggles of the #metoo movement through the scope of Elise’s character. Even more, she highlights the difficulties of anyone who has started in the business of Hollywood at a young age.

Besides heroes who adore their heroines, another trait that I adore about Vines’s romances is the steadiness of family. As you read story after story, the foundation of family is core to her series. Whether it’s the Marry the Scot, Wild Scot, or Wild Mountain Scot series, the McRae family provides a place for people who have been isolated to find a home. As Elise’s drama evolves in Hunted, it’s clear that she needs the home that is Cameron as her steadying force. It’s that realization that allows Vines’s readers to fall more deeply in love with the McRae family. It also underscores her message about the power of family to overcome the world.

Beyond Hunted’s delectable romance lies a story, revealed in small moments. With the exception of her beginning, Vines’s pacing for this story is key to keeping her reader engrossed. She reveals Elise and Cameron’s story in such a way that you feel compelled to turn the page to gain access to the sordid details of Elise’s story. Once I moved beyond the very beginning of Hunted, I couldn’t put this book down.

As I’ve mentioned before, my only issue with Hunted is its beginning. Elise and Cameron’s chemistry came from out of nowhere, instantly fiery without a more developed connection between the two. Additionally, Vines hints at some details in each of their stories that stop the reader to question why Vines isn’t revealing it immediately. It makes sense over the course of the story, but I found the foreshadowing too direct. I think she could have avoided it by staying silent until later in the story.

Honestly, in the grand scope of Hunted’s exceptional characterization and story, that is a minor detail. As I stated earlier, Cameron is now tied with his father for my favorite Vines hero. His love for Elise will make you swoon hard for him, and the happily-ever-after is the stuff that movies are made of.

Hunted (Wild Mountain Scots #2) by Jolie Vines is a contemporary romantic suspense told in first person dual POV. Although it's the second book in the Wild Mountain Scots series, it can be read as a standalone.

Actress Elise Darcy needs a place to hide out. After having been violated on set, she retaliated. And when the media finds out what she did, there’s going to be a frenzy. So when a friend offers her a place to stay in the Scottish highlands, she accepts the invitation to get away for a while.

Cameron McRae has been recovering from an injury. When Leo sends him to pick up a friend from the airport, he’s surprised that it’s his longtime crush. Cameron has been a huge fan since childhood and never expected the actress to be rude. But when he learns that Elise is in danger, he can’t resist stepping in to protect her. Can he keep her safe?

I loved Cameron and Elise’s story! I loved the characters and was hooked right from the start. I didn’t want to put it down. The story was engaging, romantic, sweet, and steamy. It was full of intrigue, suspense, and drama with plenty of twists along the way. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

Another winner from this author! I loved Cameron and Elise’s story.

From the moment they meet, I was completely hooked on their story. Cameron McRae is recovering from an injury and when he’s tasked to collect a friend of his cousin’s husband from the airport, he finds it’s his teenage obsession, Elise Darcy. He’s somewhat disappointed by her aloofness but I loved how protective he was of her, as he knows that she’s in trouble. Elise is skittish after suffering a trauma but I loved how Cameron gradually wins her over with his unswerving solidity and his quiet patience. This story was sweetly compelling, so sexy, and heartwarming. Cameron was hella swoony! I just found him so endearing, captivating and so understanding of Elise and her struggles. LOVED IT!

This second book in the Wild Mountain Scots series has taken first place on my favorites list! I love Cameron. He is the slightly damaged, protective hero every girl needs. The way he quietly supported Elise as she was struggling in the beginning and then easily forgave and sympathized with her erratic responses was a swoon all on its own. Their chemistry was on fire but his patience is what won my heart. As always, the epilogue teaser left me anxious for the next swoonable wild scot! I received an advanced copy for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.

I've been enjoying Jolie's Wild Mountain Scots series so much! Obsessed was stellar, and Hunted is another great, fast-paced adventure. From the stunning Scottish Highlands to sunny California, Cameron and Elise's love story had me sitting at the edge of my chair. I kept thinking I had the mystery figured out, but NOPE, Jolie had me turning in circles and reading with bated breath until the end. Can't wait for the next one!

Cameron has been recovering from the injuries he sustained at the end of book one, Hunted. Further surgeries and physio were required, so he’s been off work and he’s going stir crazy. He needs more than long walks. Leo asks him if he can do him a favour and pick up a friend of his from the airport as he’s busy. She’s been having some trouble and needs to keep a low profile for a bit.
When he arrived at the airport carpark, Cameron literally ran into Elise. She was his childhood crush and he’d seen every single movie she had made, but it was easy to not fan-boy over her now. She may still be gorgeous, but she’s very withdrawn and brattish, not what he’d expected at all.
Elise is running from a nightmare that occurred during her last movie, plus she’s being blackmailed, but she hasn’t told anyone. Living in a goldfish bowl, everything she does is pulled to pieces by the paparazzi. She never knows who to trust, but Cameron is like a breath of fresh air. As he chipped away at her walls they slowly become closer.
Then a compromising photo of her is released and all hell breaks out. She runs back to America hoping to banish her problems. But another run in with Cameron shows Elise that she hasn’t and Cameron’s determined to help her this time...
This was brilliant! Another well written, captivating book that keeps you guessing throughout. The chemistry is there, strained initially but flourishing by the end of their adventures together with Elise and Cameron’s relationship and mishaps spanning two continents. The story also catches us up with Viola and Leo as we join him on tour ;-) Superb!

I love these Scots and I just love the McRae family! Elise's story was a hard one. She was a famous actress who had been abused and manipulated. Her life wasn't her own. And until she met Cameron she was spiraling down a deep dark hole. I liked Elise. Through her flaws and diva lifestyle she still tried to act down to earth and reasonable. I hated the troubles she had to deal with just to live. I can honestly say it's a life I'd never want.

Cameron was an amazing man. Family oriented and willing to give a hand when needed. He loved his family and the land they lived on. He also had an amazing companion in Ellie, his dog. Honestly any scene with Ellie in it was my favorite. He was also a little lost. Meeting Elise, his crush when he was younger, helped him find what he was missing. Watching out for her helped him find his purpose.

These two were so perfect for each other. The bodyguard and the actress. It's played out plenty. But who will protect you better than the person you love the most. I truly enjoyed this book. Especially since I figured out part of the big issue right away. I also loved how it set up the next book. Ohh its going down and I can't wait to see how it all pans out!

*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*

  • Viper Spaulding

    I love Cameron's protective side!

Elise is scared and needing to hide from the paparazzi as she deals with the aftermath of a traumatic experience. Her friend, Leo, is helping her to work through her emotions with music, but it's Leo's cousin-in-law, Cameron, who is uniquely positioned to provide her the support and protection she needs. The sparks are flying fast and furious between these two, and I loved every bit of their intense love story.

This story shines an unflinching light on the demanding life of an actress and how easily manipulated a star can be, especially when members of her entourage are more concerned with protecting their jobs than protecting their star. The McRaes stand in stark contrast to that world, as they're definitely a "one for all, all for one" close-knit family who are quick to count Elise as one of their own.

The action and suspense kept me glued to the book, while the rollercoaster romance was a delight from start to finish. The HEA was everything I'd hoped for. And the epilogue gave us a juicy introduction to the next book that promises to be just as intriguing. I highly recommend this author and this series for anyone who loves modern Highland heartthrobs. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

  • M Will

Once again Jolie Vines has created a swoon worthy Scotsman. If you haven't read her books previously, I highly recommend you start at the beginning, as many of her characters from previous books pop in now and again in to her stories. These pop ins make the story so much sweeter to read.

Cameron is still recovering from an injury sustained when he helped rescue his cousin Cait. Unable to resume his duty, he's a bit sullen and looking for something to distract him from his day to day. He gets an opportunity to help a damsel in distress who is a friend of Leo. What happens after that is a well crafted story filled with secrets that could destroy both Cameron and the woman he's called to aid, Elise.

I loved this book. I love that her characters are never perfect. That the relationships are not cotton candy fluff with no substance, but are full of layers, complicating personality traits and sometimes sheer stubborn stupidity that I can relate to in my own life. I absolutely love where this story led, and found myself scolding, encouraging, yelling at and cheering for the characters in the book. I was hooked. Great read!

I was gifted an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

  • Mrs. Clare

I've been anxiously awaiting this book since I finished Obsessed and got to know Cameron McRae. He seemed so steady and strong for such a young man and I wanted to see what kind of woman would be his match. I absolutely loved that Elise, his childhood superstar crush, was the one for him. It was so poetic and lovely. It gave me all the feels.

Hunted is a monster of a book, and it needs to be in order to hold all of the intrigue and suspense that Cameron and Elise go through. Their story isn't an easy one, but the journey is so worth it. There were a few twists and turns that I did not see coming and I was absolutely THRILLED at how much Gordain McRae we got in this book. That man is all the yummy goodness and he just gets better with age.

Bottom line: I loved Hunted and now looking forward to Stolen!

  • Nancy VanSpunky Reads

This story was worth the wait! Elise is hiding out from her mother and her publicist after experiencing a trauma. She runs to Scotland to hide out thanks to Leo. Cameron has had a huge crush on the star since he was a teen. When he picks her up at the airport and delivers her to her lodgings, she sure is rude. Despite not getting off to the best start, Cameron and Elise find an amicable comaraderie. This book had a lot of ups and downs! And some I really didn't see coming. I just love how protective Jolie's Scots are! Cameron is so swoon-worthy. Just like in real life, relationships aren't always easy. If you truly care for someone, then you are willing to meet them at their need. These two are an unlikely couple with the world stacked against them, but Vines really works her magic and Hunted was amazing! I really loved it! 4.5 stars

    Wow!!!

Following in from the other books in the series, I had some expectation of how I thought this book would be... and it was nothing like them, it was so much better than I could have imagined!

There’s hurt, anger, betrayal, and twists and turns, but there’s also love, understanding, honesty and family support. Cameron comes into himself in this book and truly finds his place in the world. Elise finds out everything she thought she wanted in her life was wrong for her and finds the home she needs with Cameron.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a wee bit of a mystery and naughtiness rolled into one, it’s just amazing xx

  • Sarah Speigle

I have yet to find a book that Jolie has written that I didn't like. Cameron and Elise's story was no exception. From the moment that I started reading, I was drawn into their relationship, their connection. She has been through a traumatic event and is just searching for an escape. Cameron has had a crush on Elise for a while now, and it's like a dream come true that she is finally there. Their trials and tribulations only make their connection stronger. I love that he stood by her side and wanted to protect her through the whole thing. This was quite easily a five star read for me. I can't wait to see what Jolie comes up with next.

  • Charli

Hollywood Princess broken by circumstances needs rescuing by a hot broody Scot! Yes I am here for this.

I love a protective but sweet alpha and Cameron was no exception. Ms Vines writes the most delicious men. Cameron was a true hero and I loved how he was so aware of Elise and the issues she had to overcome.

Beautifully written and a solid story, I don't want to share to many details because of spoilers. But if you are a fan of a Scottish hero, definitely check this out.

4.5 stars Beyond the Pages Charli xx

  • Christine Woinich

Elise and Cameron were an odd couple. With her fame and trouble, Elise had plenty of fear and anxiety so she came to Scotland to hide. When she began to explore her surroundings, I enjoyed her surprise at what a relatively normal life was like. Cameron was so sweet and protective of Elise, as well as a bit embarrassed by his teenage crush on her. I kept turning pages to see how things worked out for them. I loved them and their families as they support each other throughout the series, and I highly recommend this story.

I received an ARC, and this is my unsolicited review.

  • Allyssa

Jolie did it again. I keep thinking that her last book is my favorite and the new one just tops it. Cameron and Elise's book was wonderful the characters were well fleshed out! The suspense had me intrigued and kept my attention throughout the entire book which doesnt happen very often at least for me. I also always love that she ties her new books into the rest of the McRae larger family of books so we get to see characters from the past! I think I may have a new favorite couple. Please keep them coming!!

  • niki_reads_romance

    Fast paced, interesting, and entertaining

What the heck can I say about this book. The story was constantly moving, flowing easily as water down a stream. Elise is an intense character, that is so easy to like, even in her darkest times. And Cameron. 🔥 whoa. He’s sweet, sexy, funny, helpful.... just perfect. All over, this story was fantastic and, as usual, I’m already dying for the next one!

  • Donna

After a terrible incident on stage, Elise is running away and trust comes hard for her. She meets Cameron who has had a crush on her since they were young. He is hurting and recouping from a previous accident. Their relationship starts off rocky and then turns oh so sweet and steamy. I loved their hea and all the side characters. Let me tell you, the ending, Jolie Vines has me wanting the next book in the series like ASAP.

  • Laura

    Hunted: Cameron and Elise

Loved Cameron from the last couple books and his story was everything I hoped it would be. Watching him find love was thrilling. Elise's growth from industry puppet to strong woman was fun too. Seeing her become both independent and yet interconnected with the McRae family was better still.
