Malefica (The Malefica, #1) Reviews

Every now and then a story comes along, a story that completely and utterly bewitches me.
Malefica now sits proudly on that list.
With only the first few sentences of the first chapter this author has managed to put me under a spell. And as far as I know, this is her first book. What?!
My head is spinning in the aftermath of this beautiful enchanting tale. Only the first in the series and I’m already going a bit crazy. This book is unlike anything I've ever read before.
So very well written! I'd give it 10 stars if I could! The storyline was fabulous and the characters were unforgettable! From the beautiful eye catching cover, to the swoony romance part that will steal your heart, and the mystery that will horrify you.
Unique, exciting, fun and heart-wrenching. If you don't read another book this year, make sure you read this one! -
“Sometimes the hardest battles to win are the ones without weapons.”
Princess Arielle of the kingdom of Dagengrath was born with a terrible curse - without the malefica amulet permanently attached to her wrist, she can kill with a single touch. As a result, she has been locked away in a tower for years... until her father forces her to take part in a ritual that promises to end in her death. As Arielle travels to her fate, her retinue is attacked by a band of soldiers from an enemy kingdom. Realizing that the princess of Dagengrath is a valuable hostage, they take her back to their kingdom, and their king. But as Arielle finds kindness and companionship in her father’s supposed enemies, she realizes that she may have to make some hard decisions... decisions that could change everything.
Oh. My. Gosh. Hoover has this way of utterly bewitching a reader from the first page. I read this entire book front to back without stopping once. Arielle’s journey was wonderful to read about, you can see her grow from this scared, meek little girl to this sassy, brave, confident queen who knows what she wants and is willing to fight for it. This is a slow burn romance... extremely, tortuously slow. But it is worth it! The buildup was beautifully written, and James, while you want to smack him at times, definitely has his swoon worthy moments. I also loved the character Erickson the guard. I most definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves high fantasy!
I received a free ARC of this book from the author, and am voluntarily leaving a review. -

I'm so so sooo happy I signed up for this book because wowww! This debut novel by @AudriannaHoover is so damn captivating that I finished it in one sitting and had heartattacks! Yes, in plural! Apparently the author thought it'll be cool to separate and kill characters༎ຶ‿༎ຶ
This book falls in the fantasy genre with a hint of romance which by the way is awesome and cute and made me go "awww". This ends on a serene note which is leading towards a sequel and a new beginning to the end of the war.
From the beginning I was curious and the storyline here is different too. The hints of slow burn romance had me rooting for the couple. Chapter 25 **heart eyes**♡
The secret kisses, the stolen glances and the yearning *dreamy sighs*
There's a change in Arielle's personality from being the silent princess to the sassy and confident queen. James is a sweetheart, Zacharias is my love interest and Erickson is like the fun brother. This is not a reverse harem (atleast not now).
I haven't written anything about the story Because the blurb says it all!
Definitely a must read!!!!!!! -
Phenomenal Story!
This is a phenomenal story that pulled me in right from the very first chapter. It consumed me and had me forgetting about where I was or what I was doing. I was entranced and under Arielle’s spell. She took me on a journey filled with such magic. I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, never wanting the story to end. Filled with mystery, suspense, passion, twists and turns you never see coming and so many magical moments, this story blew my mind.
“Just because you cannot see the wind, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. As should it be with magic, James. Do not discount what you cannot see, until you are sure you can prove that it does not exist.”
Brilliantly written with phenomenal characters and a storyline that is vividly written and filled with such amazing imagery, this story will have you lost in a world of magic and mayhem. You will laugh, you will cry and you will be shocked by the way things end.
I absolutely loved everything about this story and I can’t wait for the next book! -
What can I say about this book other than I absolutely loved it. Audrianna Hoover is a new author to me but definitely one I will be reading more of in the future. Just a few lines into the story and I was drawn in hook, line, and sinker. In fact, I was a little disappointed when I got to the end just because I wanted to read more, I'm definitely excited to see more in book two.
It's certainly a slow burn as described in the blurb, but the stolen glances and kisses make it so worth it. Arielle as a character is amazing, you get to go on the journey with her as she grows not only in confidence but in character and she slowly becomes who she is meant to be. I absolutely adore Erickson, at first I thought he might be a love interest for Arielle but I actually prefer who he became for her. James and Zacharius are definitely two of my favourites though, and I'm not sure entirely where their relationships with Arielle are going to go, but I'm totally there for it! -
It starts with a captive princess and ends with a Queen.
I had absolutely no idea what to expect from this book and went in blind. The cover and blurb pulled me in and oh God what a ride it was. It starts with Arielle (our FMC) being finally let out of her tower where she was kept captive by her own father no less. My blood was boiling on her behalf. From there we get to witness her journey and beware! There are some mighty twists in there! Quite a lot!
In the beginning, Arielle was kinda haughty but we see her grow through all the turns and turmoils. It's a slow burn too! I'm not sure which team I'm on but I'm excited to see more of them in part 2. For now, I'm kinda rooting for Zach🙈, sorry James. I loved the friendship between Erickson and Arielle. The buildup, the slow burn, the mysteries and twists ugh! The book ends on a enigmatic note which can kinda be called as a Cliffhanger I guess? Idk, read and find out yourself!
Thank you so much to the author for the ARC! -
*Received ARC in exchange for an honest review*
Rating: 4.5 stars!
Wow ok so I love this book😭
Arielle is so fierce, strong, and brave and I just adore her. Watching her grow into a confident woman was absolutely *chef's kiss*
I have no idea when book 2 comes out but I need it IMMEDIATELY. I also desperately need Arielle end up with Zacharias because im a thousand person #teamZacharias. James is fine and whatever but he's nowhere near the level of amazingness that Zacharias is.
I just finished and I'm already wanting the paperback so I can reread it lol.
There was just one part where I felt the book dragged a little but other than that, the pacing was great! I love how much depth all the characters had (well except Thelma) and I'm so excited for the next book! -
This book is a slow, and I mean slow, burn romance. But as a reader, you’ll overlook it since the author wove an intriguing fantasy book that keeps the reader turning the pages.
Princess Arielle is kept in a tower to ensure she doesn’t harm others. After being selected to birth the offspring of a god, she is taken prisoner by the enemy on her way to impending doom. But are they really the enemy? As her time amongst them grows, she learns that maybe the enemy is someone from her own land and that in order to be the person she’s destined to be, she may need to make some harsh choices.
Arielle is a rather complex character that is meek one minute and feisty the next. Her actions and deeds counter the darkness that lies within her as she struggles to understand what her purpose is.
The book ends on a rather interesting note and I cannot wait to read how her story continues. As for her love interest? Is she destined to have one or several? There are three possibilities and I find it hard to choose which one would be best suited for her.
* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. -
A brilliant debut novel. This is out of my ordinary but when I saw the teasers I had to read it. I wasn't disappointed and glad I did. Princess Arielle may have a terrible curse but her father is a cruel man. As the princess is on her way to her "destination" she is attacked and her enemies take her. Are they really the enemies though? Read this story to find out.

Ahh OK, slow burn is not what I am used to, but Audrianna sure hooked me in with this one.
I enjoyed the storyline so much I forgot that it was slower than what I am used to.
Can't wait to keep reading this series. -
This story is beautifully written and I loved reading about Arielle's story. She is fierce, loyal, and caring and she is constantly second guessing herself because of the magic she is hiding within herself. Those around her know that she is kind and loyal but also are suspicious because they know she is hiding something. This book is about over coming struggles, coming to terms with every aspect of yourself and fighting for those you love.

Why no one told me this one is so good? BRB trying to find the right words to explain this book.
