I see dead people.
No, not like that movie.

I’m a coroner, and yes it's the kiss of death on my dating life. When men find out what I do, I'm lucky to hear “it was nice meeting you.”

Until I almost accidentally kill Blake Hale with my car.
Instead of being freaked out by me, he’s intrigued.
No matter how much I try to scare him off, he keeps coming back for more.
And for a follow-the-rules guy, he’s breaking them all… for me.

We couldn’t be more different.
He’s all goodness and light, with a brain that’s even sexier than his six pack.
I’m danger in a pretty package, and no amount of knocking on wood is going to make the happily ever after he’s promising come true. But…

With each word we exchange, my resolve weakens.
With each heated look, he gets further into my soul.
With every kiss, he consumes me by accepting me just as I am.

I deal in death all day. He sells life… insurance. What could possibly go wrong when I start believing in Mr. Right?

Drop Dead Gorgeous is a full-length meet-cute Romance... with a twist! It is a standalone.

This was so weird 🤧🤧 I knew it wasn't gonna work for me from the first chapter but read on out of morbid curiosity. What was wrong w the characters in this book.... She's a coroner. It's a perfectly respectable job. The whole book is about how men won't date her bc they're freaked out by her profession, but it should be about how men don't date her bc her personality is completely bizarre.

I can’t help but smile sweetly at the rookie and wave two fingers though, pretending that I have no idea what Jeff is talking about. Rookie uncertainly smiles back, and I switch modes in an instant, my smile morphing into a growl as I bite my teeth together with a clack and my fingers turning into claws. Grr! I’m a tiger that’ll eat you for breakfast, and not in the morning wood-good way. He recoils quickly, stumbling into the mantel above the fireplace and knocking down a figurine that looks like an old-school tin soldier.
I laugh. That was too easy.

    description

She meets the H by T-boning his car with hers, causing a serious accident, and then pretends to have amnesia as a joke and he pretty much falls in love w her at first sight.

    description

I thought I disliked Zoey (h), but then I met Blake (H). And I'm tapping out. They were so cringey together their humor and the insta-love from the H's side just wasn't for me.

ღ. I absolutely love Zoey & Blake 's story. It was totally hot & sexy. It caught my attention from the beginning.

Zoey Walker, Coroner, Williamson County, Blake Hale, life insurance agent collided on the highway… or more like Zoey Tbone Blake on the highway

This book was amazing, cuz not only did the author have me laughing out loud with Zoey’s unique quirkiness, but she also through in the mix bit of Nancy Drew & Hardy Boy, or maybe I should say bit of Scooby-doo action. whatever way you want paraphrase it! This was one of those books that you start late at night, thinking ok I’m only going to read few chapters & then hit the hey… how wrong I was! This was one of those books, where I couldn’t put it down until I finished it… so another words, I stayed up all night

A highly recommended read! Check it out! I am ready for more! This one those slow burn between Drop Dead Gorgeous, with crazy sense of humor & he somewhat uptight in the beginning

➦📚 *Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion+ Also I wouldn’t never discourage anyone from reading this book.

➦*I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest review of it. 💕

Drop Dead Gorgeous is simple gorgeous book. Miss Landish done a good job bringing her reader Zoe. She is a kick ass heroine. She is smart, beautiful, fierce and yet she is lack of self esteem. Believing a curse following her everywhere.

I like Blake. He has such a big heart to believe in Zoey where no one has her back. I guess he is the perfect book boyfriend. There is small dose of suspense in this book. Just to make the story interesting.

I am so happy I found this book. So glad I picked it up.

I read a lot of romances, and this one had a really unique premise— gave me some solid chuckles 🙌🤣 A light and flirty read ✨

What a delightful, quirky treat! This is EASILY the best book that I've read by this author, and I'm always excited to get my hands on her new releases. I really wasn't sure what to expect going in, and that made the journey all the more interesting. It's part rom com, part murder mystery, and part dark comedy - the perfect combination of elements to make this highly entertaining and bingeable. And the hero? LOVED him. He's like a sweet alpha with a nerdy side, a guy who is willing to put in the work to get his girl. It was so refreshingly different that I was completely invested from start to finish, and enjoyed it the whole way through.

The story follows Zoey, a woman who has gotten used to talking to dead people more than she does live ones... and not in a supernatural way. She's a coroner who is considered something of a black widow around town, since she deals with death on a daily basis and seems to bring it to those she spends time with. So when Zoey runs into Blake - literally - she does everything she can to stay away. But Blake is an insurance agent who has already calculated the risks, and he's determined to win a date with the mysterious beauty. When their careers bring them together on a case of sorts, these two have no choice but to get closer.

I loved all of the offbeat comedy, the relatable (yet eccentric) characters, and the unique storyline. The tone felt very different than anything I've read by this author - in a good way - and it kept me on my toes throughout. And I really, really liked the growth in intimacy. Blake won't let Zoey write him off, run scared, or keep things casual, so the payoff at the end of this slow burn was so good. There's a great growth in intimacy that makes this otherwise light, fun read feel like it's got some serious depth. We're also introduced to some other intriguing characters, and their stories would likely be just as interesting. Here's hoping that we get more like this from the author, because this was a seriously good read. I received an early copy via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review of this quirky caper.

When you read as many romances as I do you are always appreciative of a "new story". DROP DEAD GORGEOUS is a breath of fresh air!

Zoey is a Coroner and I absolutely love, love, LOVED her. I loved how we learned the path she took to become a coroner, why she loves it, and why she is amazing at it! I adored her wonderful female friendship with the Funeral Home's make-up artist! Zoey is smart, beautiful, funny, very quirky, and tough! Definitely a Bad Ass female lead.

Blake is also sooooo great! A super-nerd turned rule-following Insurance salesman with muscles. I just adored his persnickety ways, his love for Trivia Night, his hilarious sister and her partner, and his LOVE of Zoey and all of her quirks. It was similarly refreshing to see a male lead who is patiently wooing the female lead. He works for it!

This book is part Rom Com, part mystery, part swoony romance. There is plenty of steam, a Lauren Landish staple, so beware of your panties incinerating.

This is such a fun read and one with a great message included: your quirks make you perfect.

    Really enjoyed this!

This was just the sweet read I needed after my last fiasco! Barely any drama, with dark humour and a great writing.

Zoey and Blake were the cutest nerdiest couple ever.
He understood and encouraged every single quirk Zoey had and he didn’t shy away from showing all his trivia knowledge.
Zoey at first was living a life where she was bashed on a daily and thought she deserved that but thankfully little bit by bit she grew a backbone and started calling people on their bs.

I loved the storyline, where apart from the romance, there was a murder mystery that made the book more enjoyable!

  • Natasha

I struggled with this book for a while now and I officially give up.
This is one of the most ridiculous, irrational book I've ever tried to read.
Firstly I feel personally offended by how everyone treated the h. I mean when I finish med school I really want to continue with forensic pathology and be a medical examiner so does that mean that everyone will run away from me and I will be without friends, cast away from society lol😂
They literally treated her like she has the plague and she allowed that..wtf🤦‍♀️ She never stood up for herself. And the H was one of the most one dimensional characters ever. He had zero personality, falls in love with her after like 2 days. Also it was way too long with unnecessary inner monologs that were so boring.
For sake of my sanity this will go in my dnf pile and I don't think I will read another book from this author.

  • Alina

It was a pretty good read and I liked the heroine and the hero! Both of them have an interesting career, she is a coroner and he is an insurance agent and its safe!

  • Sabi

Sucha unique female lead profession of a Coroner made me pick up this read. But, it's like the author wanted to write a thriller but had to write her contract-ed romcoms.

  • Nicole Snow

There's a hero for everyone—even Miss Undateable! I loved this original feel-good take on red-hot romantic comedy by the one and only Lauren Landish. Zoey and Blake are a giddy cocktail of emotion with unexpected laughs and major heartfelt feels. The banter is too good, people. And I could write a mini-novel on the steamy, blushy moments, but you need to read it to believe. Grab it now while it's Free in Kindle Unlimited and enjoy!

Thought this was adorable. Loved Blake and Zoey’s relationship and they were just so cute together

  • Diana Johnston

    Adorable!

This was just what I needed! An adorable story with cute characters anc a mystery to boot! Highly recommend for everyone!

  • Kate V

I believe this might be my favorite book that Landish has ever written. It was super cute!! Zoey is the county coroner and Blake is a life insurance salesman. They have their little meet-cute when Zoey runs her car into Blake's car. Blake is immediately infatuated and begins to try and court her. Zoey has a string of bad luck in her past and the town thinks she's weird so she has kept to herself and doesn't date. It takes Blake a lot of patience to finally break down Zoey's walls.

I liked that along with the romance, there was the suspenseful murder mystery element that they worked together to solve.

I think I would have liked a little more heat in here but honestly I just really loved Zoey and Blake. Their quirkiness matched each other perfectly. Their banter and the way Blake cared for Zoey was just so swoon worthy.

Will Zoey be able to let her walls down and love Blake? Will they solve the murder mystery? Will they get their HEA?

I wanted a little more heat between them but overall a solid cutesy read with lots of heart.

  • Ana | She Said Yes to Books

I’m growing so tired of romance novels. That’s the main reason I’m reading more and more other genres.

They’re all sounding the same. Like I read that a hundred times! And I did!!!!

Time to get creative and not follow a recipe, authors!

    Stories with no depth.

Excuses for sex scenes. It looks like everything that the author is writing there is to lead the characters to get some heat moments and that’s all!

Please, authors, give me good novels with plot driven stories that have romance worth to swoon over it! Not some novels to make me horny. That I can do it another way… thank you!

  • Bev Quigley

    Good book

I liked the story. Thought Blake and Zoey had some chemistry. Wish she had got her backbone sooner. But really enjoyed it.

Had to DNF because I was bored out of my mind. Didn’t find the heroine funny.

    English review down below

I guess I haven't read a book so quickly and fondly for a long time :)

Zoey is a coroner in a small town. Because she was a profession in which she was constantly involved in the death, and she lost many people in her life, the townspeople nicknamed her "drop-dead gorgeous" and excluded her. For some reason, they say that whoever Zoey is dating will die. So they are pretty stupid. Despite being a very beautiful woman, they condemned her to loneliness. So when Zoey hits Blake with her car, everyone thinks this fate will repeat :D But of course, it doesn't. Blake is a life insurance agency employee and when it comes to whether the person in one of his files died of natural causes, their path crosses and the book begins.

There is such a death to be solved in the book, but the book is neither completely mystery nor just a rom-com. Zoey is smart, upright, and has trouble trusting when it comes to relationships because people exclude him. But Blake ... Blake was great! Funny, intelligent, supportive, ego-free ... It was evident from the effort that he really cared for Zoey. That's why I read the book with great fun, hearts coming out of my eyes and curiously :)

Don't be afraid to shine, the world needs your light...

This was the most entertaining off the wall romance I have ever read to date, and I LOVED IT!!! Lauren Landish never ceases to amaze me with her versatility. She is showing her multitalented chops with Zoey and Blake's journey. She has definitely outdone herself.

Zoey Walker is the Coroner for Williamson County. I am sure you have heard the phrase "I see dead people", well Zoey really does, but she also talks to them when she is performing an autopsy on them. Her nickname is Drop Dead Gorgeous. The gorgeous part is definitely correct and flattering, but the Drop Dead, not so much. The people in the town regard her as the "grim reaper" and stay clear of her because of her past history. When she does go on a date, once she brings up her profession, the men usually run for the hills.

Blake Hale is a life insurance salesman. He takes his job very seriously. He is sexy hot with a mind like a steel trap. A very attractive combo in a man. Blake and Zoey meet each other after crashing their cars into one another. These two couldn't be more opposite. But Blake is intrigued with Zoey not just because she is beautiful, that's a given, but because he loves her mind and wants to find out how she ticks. Blake pursues her relentlessly.

This story has romance, intrigue, suspense and is so wickedly funny. I hope the author continues to write more stories like Zoey and Blake's.

  • Alex in Spades

This was such a brilliant read. I loved it so much! It was funny, sexy, super sweet, with a lot of heart and a murder mystery. A perfect combination for me. Zoey and Blake were amazing.Blake was such a wonderful human, he was a romantic, and he believed in Zoe so much, and wanted her to be happy, that it melted my heart. Zoe was such a fun gal. I adored her quirkiness, and her growth as a character.

Also I enjoyed the mystery part of this story so much. The twist at the end was just crazy for me, and I was not expecting it at all. The balance between romance and mystery was also great. This whole time I knew what I was reading, the combination between the two genres played really well with all of the charatcers.

Overall I loved this story. It was all I wanted after seeing this title, and reading the synopsis. I wish we've got Holly's story, but I loved her happy ending in the extended epilogue. It was all just so sweet. So if you're in a mood for some romance with a dash of murder investigation, with great and funny characters, and truly sweet guy pick this one.

  • Cheryl Graham-Petit

If you're a fan of rom com stories that are well written with an interesting storyline, lovable characters, humor, suspense, and plenty of heat, then you'll love Drop Dead Gorgeous by Lauren Landish.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

  • Karin

Zoey and Blakes story was beyond adorable! Zoey is quirky that I loved her and Blake and all his evaluations made me laugh. Zoey basically avoids the living and is more comfortable with the dead and since Blake’s still breathing he’s basically already at a disadvantage but he’s also not willing to give up. Such a cute story

  • Hanna

Nope just nope. Blake is the most one dimensional stick figure of a man that I have EVER had the courtesy of reading about. He doesnt have a personality, his sole purpose is to make Zoey feel better about herself. You could replace him with a recording of him saying 'you're so sexy Zoey!!' And the plot would still make sense!
And all of this would be okay if we were just reading from Zoey's point of view and the story was more than just a romance, more than just a story about them getting together.
But HALF THE BOOK is from his pov, for half the book I had to listen to his INCESSANT whining about how Zoey wasn't his yet and how much he was in love with her and how sexy she didn't realise she was. It took me about 2 months and pure willpower to finish this book, so be warned and good luck. 🤩🤩

  • ✿ ☮︎ Tori ✿ ☮︎

    The book was just ‘okay’

First off.. I didn’t like the fact that Zoey got bullied for being a coroner, seriously? I was confused by that.

Zoey had a hard time getting close to anyone because she thought she would ‘kill’ them or something would end up happening to them because she thinks she has bad luck.

Blake a little too good to be true life insurance salesman worships the ground Zoey walks on the moment “the accident happened”.

I thought the book idea was good but I had a hard time getting through it.

  • Heidi

I loved the storyline of this book but it was exhausting to read how much the heroine let her town influence her. The romance was hot and chemistry great but I almost didn’t finish it because of that.

  • Melissa

The biggest problem with this story really boils down to its original premise ... that there is some sort of humor in a coroner being viewed by everyone as some sort of portent of doom because ... she works with dead bodies. hardy har har. The first part of this book introduces us to Zoey and her community of "friends", coworkers, and random acquaintances who seem to be terrified to be in her presence because they might end up dead or something like that. Zoey, for some unfathomable reason, decides not to call everyone out for being ridiculous and unbelievably rude to her, but leans into their prejudices and plays the role of a scary demon lady whenever she interacts with them. I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be funny, but I thought it was incredibly ridiculous. The average human being (heck, the below average human being) can recognize that coroners or morticians or doctors or police officers or anyone who has to deal with dead bodies is simply performing a necessary service in our society. They aren't scary boogeymen. They're just people. Even if you throw in Zoey's unfortunate family history of tragedy, it is simply that ... tragedy. To shun her or call her what is meant to be the derogative label of Drop Dead Gorgeous is mean and stupid ... not funny. I found no humor in this story.

If you are looking for a romantic story, this book falls short. It is nice that Zoey is able to find Blake, a man who sees her for the wonderful woman she is. While everyone else sees her as dangerous, he sees her as her. It's nice, but as far as romances go, this is pretty muted.

What I ended up sort of enjoying in this story is the suspense. But I'll say this ... if you are looking for a suspense story, this book falls short too. It's not meant to be a huge suspenseful book, so I don't fault Lauren Landish here. But I sort of wish that she had focused more on this in the book. It had lots of potential, and I actually enjoyed things a lot more when Zoey was in danger and Blake was working to try and save her. The mild mystery of the book was enough of a draw to keep me listening when the romance didn't interest me.

The narration of this story was interesting. They did something that I haven't heard before in dual narrated books. During the chapters where Charley Ongel was narrating Zoey's POV, Tor Thom would jump in and narrate the male conversation voices, and when Tor was narrating Blake's POV, Charley would narrate the female voices. It allowed them to avoid the sometimes awkward opposite sex voices that narrators sometimes have to attempt (I see you Teddy Hamilton!). It was a little weird at first, but in this audio book I ended up appreciating it. I thought Charley Ongel's narration was way too breathy for my taste, but overall it was an adequate narration for an adequate story. It didn't end up being my favorite ever, but I guess it was worth the deep discounted deal of the day price I paid for it. I'll give it a generous three stars.
