Joao and Catarina Regaleria’s twentieth wedding anniversary celebration was fast approaching when a contact from the past reaches out for his assistance.

Colonel Theodore Mwanga, a former enemy commander during the Angolan war and now an important politician, requests Joao’s help. The colonel’s adult son, Peter, was kidnapped while working as a doctor for the Christian Aid Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Reluctant to get involved, Joao contacts Xavier Sear, a former CIA operative. They became friends when Joao served as a member of the United Nations Peace-Keeping Forces in Angola and Sear was an observer.

After Catarina’s persuasive intervention, Joao and Sear head to the DRC to rescue Peter. Treachery abounds at each step of the way. Will they be successful or will the situation deteriorate even further as various players follow their own agendas?

Mission: Angola (Xavier Sear Thriller Book 1) Reviews

No dull moments reading Mr. Krzak’s novels. His concise style of writing moves the events along maintaining suspense. How will the story end and will everyone live?

The nature of the setting along with the characters and storyline emphasize the depravity of the rebels and the turbulent political entities portrayed. That said, some graphic material is prevalent but not overwhelming. Yet the horrors only work to enhance the courage of those seeking to overcome evil with good.

For myself, a lesson to take away from this work - one must always be alert to what a thirst for power under the guise of freedom presents as. Swapping one tyrannical power for another, all the while oblivious to the suffering of the innocent as well as purposely causing the innocent to suffer - serious symptoms of underlying problems.

Additionally, allegiance amongst friends and ideals is a quality to admire. Those whose friends are close and trustworthy are fortunate people. I love the bonding between the main characters.

In particular I enjoyed the character Peter, a Christian doctor whose seen the worst. Does he cave in despite the egregious circumstances he finds himself in?

I think Mr. Krzak’s novels would do well on the movie screens for their deeper meanings not just mindless action for action’s sake. If you’re seeking an adventure/action read, pick up the novel and enjoy.

If you are a fan of action thrillers, you should give Mission: Angola (Xavier Sear Thriller Book 1) a read. This novel by Randall Krzak is the story of an ex-CIA agent who has been recruited to rescue a kidnapping victim from a camp in the heart of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The victim is the son of an Angolan cabinet minister and has dedicated his life to serving desperate people in remote villages in Angola. Parts of the story are set in both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola with the action crossing the border a number of times.

Randall Krzak served in the U.S. Army in Africa, among other places. This shows in his writing. He's a master of detail from the jungle camps to the cities. He includes descriptions of local food I found fascinating. He also knows military weapons and other gear very well.

A good action thriller needs a strong villain. This book has a number of them. Jonah Alimasi, the leader of the group that kidnapped Doctor Mwanga is the worst, but there are plenty of others including Russian agents and locals willing to betray just about everyone they know. There is a great deal of violence in Mission: Angola, which is why I recommend it to fans of that genre.

    Fast paced page turner

Not far into this high energy thriller, you see why this author has so many awards under his belt. The plot is riveting; the characters believable and their dilemmas obviously concocted by someone who’s “been there.” Highly recommended!
