Morning by Morning: Daily Devotional Readings Reviews
-
Loaded with metaphors and ebullient emotion in accord with the Romantic Era of Spurgeon’s time, this daily devotional was not really my style. I know lots of people love Spurgeon and I am sure he is a fine Bible teacher, but I couldn’t really recommend this book as the dense writing weighed down the ideas presented. Or maybe I just don’t love how each day the topic shifts from one thing to another - normal for daily devo books, but again, not really my style.

Beautifully written truth. My favorite devotional thus far. I'm grieved to leave it behind, but I've been assured Streams in the Desert will not disappoint.

Rewarding meetings with God
What a great and simple way to start your day. Such profoundness from such simplicity. Very rewarding indeed. Must read. -
Really enjoyed this! Each day brought a beautiful reminder, and so many times it was just what I needed for that day/season.

This version of Morning by Morning has been revised and updated by Alistair Begg for the purpose of making the devotions more readable. According to the introduction, the changes made were to update old english references or terms, and the Bible verses were taken from the English Standard Version as opposed to the original King James Version.
Overall I really enjoyed the devotions. My one complaint is that some of the verses seem to be used apart from their context. They are not what I would call out of context, it's more that because each devotion uses one verse, I think the devotion would have taken a different direction if the entire Scripture passage were used. Although I didn't read every single devotion, I read most of them. I only recall one that I didn't quite agree with, but then one is not likely to completely agree with any author writing on Biblical topics.
I would recommend this version of Morning by Morning to anyone. The only reason for taking away one star is the aforementioned concern about the use of individual verses and phrases from verses. -
While some of the day's readings were vague and nothing I agreed with, most of them were thought provoking. I read them at night instead of in the mornings. Nevertheless, they gave me lots to think about. I read each day for a year and I'm glad I did.

Encouraging thoughts for each day. Easy to read and catch up if you miss a few days.

This daily devotional is one which I enjoyed each and every time I opened it. Although it is challenging at times, therefore requiring much time to complete each day, I enjoyed it. As I read it again I plan to sit down with a pen and a pad in order to create some of my own thoughts right along with Spurgeon. Some of the writings are, like many devotional books, pointless and somewhat lacking; however, overall it is a daily devotional which gives one a chance to be challenged to "live" the Christian "life."

This is the book that bought me to Christ... as I was reading this book...I came to know the love of my Lord Jesus......I really thank God for Charles Spurgeon...Praise the Lord......

It was excellent, and I looked forward to reading his passage each day.
--> Then my dog ate my book.
No. This isn't like "my dog ate my homework." She really did eat it. She's an almost 3-month-old German Shepherd/Husky mix, and, apparently, she has an appetite for quality Christian literature.
So there's that.
Obviously, I didn't finish it.
It was good enough to find another copy though. ;-) -
Spurgeon is especially good at heartfelt urgency and colorful metaphors. In these devotions, he extracts applications from all over the Scripture, even from single phrases in books of prophecy. It's hard to imagine a more practical set of devotions for the Christian layman, even if they do swell with Victorian romance.

EXCELLENT
Charles Spurgeon was a remarkable evangelist who led millions of lost souls to Christ. His anointing was so powerful that even today he’s still influencing our world. These daily devotionals are taken from his sermon notes… This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! -
Great way to start the day!
This is a great, year-long devotional to begin each day of the year with! Each day's reading takes only a few minutes to read, but is filled with wonderful lessons and encouragement! -

A timeless book
It was a poignant reading. It was hard at times to follow but Charles Spurgeon lived over 100 yrs ago. Yet he spoke to my heart of the Lord and of my need of Him. -
This is a very good devotional read daily. I shared many of these with my friends
-
Wanted something inspirational. This wasn't it

Face the day
These meditations will give you peace of mind and help you be ready for the day. It helps me to remain calm. -
As usual, Charles Spurgeon is so inspiring, convicting, and wise. One of the best daily devotionals I’ve used. I will use this one again at some point. Maybe 2024.
