A former assassin. An unspeakable past. The powerful people who want him dead.

Retiring peacefully in Genshin Valley was never an option for Danzen Ravja, regardless of his intentions.

To prevent any more attacks on the defenseless valley he now calls home, Danzen and his yokai companions head west to address the Diyu Brotherhood head-on, to face down two honorable assassins, and even more with no honor at all.

Danzen plans to bend his echo upon his return, to cultivate his inner strength through the power of a fallen heaven. He holds a desperate faith that it will give him control over his demons, bring him closer to wholeness.

But the extremes he must take to accomplish these tasks may end up killing him, and that’s before his demon half-brother comes for him.

Danzen is no stranger to life or death struggles, no shrinking violet to wilt under the pressure of risking his hide to do what must be done—but with other people's lives on the line, people he cares about and who care about him in return... Danzen must use his talents of dealing death to save their lives.

Pilgrim 2 (Pilgrim, #2) Reviews

I was barely able to finish the 1st book. It was really weak and uninteresting. This one didn't get better. It got much worse. I am proud to say that I toughed it out and finished it. What a colossal waste of my time.

    What a ride.

This book has so much going on that it can leave you dizzy. The world building is well thought out and the characters are intriguing as they have so many quirks that make each of them unique and fun. The book is extremely fast paced as it almost reads like a webnovel. Overall it was really enjoyable and I look forward to reading more of this series.

  • Randy Harmelink

I didn't enjoy it as much as the first book. It bogged down for a bit in the middle of the book. Otherwise, a lot of humor and a lot of action. But Pilgrim is definitely a Gary Stu.

    Exceptional second book

A trilogy would be awesome. I know the author is thinking maybe five books. But I stand against that choice. Do not misunderstand me, I want many more stories in this world, with these characters, but Pilgrim should be a trilogy. Then another trilogy (he's not really Pilgrim beyond that point) and then the final trilogy to wrap up the epic saga. So no, not five books please. I'm looking for 9 total and I hope a few other people will voice their support.

Exceptional. Dissent stop reading until the end.

Harmon's book is as always full of adventure and unforgettable unique characters. I was enchanted by book one and equally excited by this one. The adventure is picking up speed and force. Can't wait to find out what happens with Pilgrim, his friends, yokai and human, and battles to be fought with new strength earned.

I've been waiting patiently like a good girl for this, after adoring the first book. Worth the wait, I can tell you. What a sequel! I savoured every single word of this adventure, but, having said that, I devoured the book as quickly as I could to find out what happened next.

Danzen Ravja, though demon-born, is a very human heady mix of strengths and weaknesses. He doesn't want to assassinate anyone anymore. He just wants to live out the rest of his life in peace without other assassins trying to get their revenge on him. Although as an assassin he would generally work alone, he now constantly seems to be in the company of two shape-shifting yokai. Kudzu, a white fox, and Jelmay, a cat. Jelmay can be a bit of an annoyance and totally selfish, but he has the contacts and the knowledge that Danzen needs. Kudzu, on the other hand, is as unselfish as you could possibly get, beautiful, and wears her heart on her sleeve (or is that tail?). I feel that Danzen and Kudzu are getting closer all the time. They have a mutual respect for each other. Do I see a romance on the cards? Oh, I would love to think so... It could work, he's half-demon after all. I love the yokai, they're so interesting!

The story carries straight on from the first book. Danzen has to hunt and put a stop to his potential assassins before they strike. Not an easy task by any means, but one that he has to focus on fully. The fight scenes are wonderful, the characterisations full of energy, and the writing honest, from the heart, and full of lessons for us lesser beings. I won't spoil the story for anyone, but it's so hard not to. I utterly loved this. Can't wait for number three.

Ohhh So many spoilers i can't post

After book 1 this is a big book full of surprises and nice little separations where each part of the story is dealt with.
This gives the impression its even bigger and you feel things progress even more than what they do, the best bit is quite a few twists and something this good with lots of excellent writing means i now have to wait even longer before book 3 which is a massive downer. Character development and reader immersion is also a big power up from the 1st so im willing to be quite forgiving in this case.

Another set of vignettes where Pilgrim must undertake quests for magical spirit animals, villagers, and try to stop his past from coming to hurt him and his friends.

I like how the author made a complete story and provided a conclusion even though we readers know a 3rd book will be coming.

I think because the first book set the tone of not having a rigid plotline, but instead a linear collection of interlinked short stories, I was able to feel comfortable with the similar pattern in this middle book.

Author Harmon Cooper continues his fantasy series about Pilgrim, the retired assassin turned rural good guy and advocate for magical creatures.

Too bad his former life keeps intruding as assassins seek to kill him and complete the contract on him. He decides to rid himself of the problem once and for all by killing his former teacher, who took out the contract on him. And other assassin teachers who are trying to complete the contract.

It turns out assassins are the least of his worries. He's got a half-brother who is a full-blooded demon and out to kill him.

    Good luck, Pilgrim.

    Brilliant!

An epic next book. Really well written with plenty of action ,world building is too notch also. There's great character development with the three main characters -Danzen, Kudzu and Jelmay. Damien continues his literal and figurative fight against his demons whilst new mysteries appear. I said before that it reads like an anime and I love this series because of that. Looking forward to the conclusion.

Pilgrim 2 continues the story of the super powered assassin trying to escape his past with his assorted human and “yokai”creature friends. Like the first book, this book is separated into shorter episodes, (like a tv series). I felt this book flowed better than the first book and had more action, but it could just be fresher in my memory.

The book contains lots of violence; however, there are no sex scenes.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. This is my honest and voluntary review.

    What's going to work.... teamwork

This is like a fantasy dirty dozen. I very much enjoy the camaraderie and feeling of togetherness. I very much await the third one. Hopefully it won't be too long.

    Epic Battle For Good!!

Wow!! I didn't think we'd get to experience so many grand adventures for Danzen in one book! I love the relationships he continues to cultivate and the allies he builds! Can't wait for the next book!

    Solid character development

This series of books has made for a good read. I’m practically chomping at the bit to read more. I can totally see the fox and the Assassin falling in love.

    Wonderful sequel

Love the concept and the series, highly recommend this to anyone looking for action adventure and a great story line!

  • Vance Olmstead

    Love this series

This was a great second book to the series! Definitely a must read! Looking forward to book three when it comes out

  • Matthew Hallberg

Good for book #2, easy to read but felt a little rushed.

It’s an easy read. Good as an in between book to heavier books like Mistborn or Stormlight. Not quite full enough to be like OH MYYY, but satisfying enough to wish the third book was already out just to finish.
