Stories Christians Don't Have to Read Backwards. Reviews

Casey strikes again with one hell of a powerful collection. I love my short fiction, and I'm always impressed by how Casey weaves together humor & the macabre.

    Personal favorite stories:

    Antipope- Just dripping in brutality...

Smell of Female- Vicious, obsessive, strange. Loved the ending.

Henry & The Moth- Any story that makes me feel is a successful story. This one broke my heart, such a pure message.

This collection features a wide variety of horror stories, with some that are heartbreaking like My Biggest Fear, or surprisingly heartwarming like Henry and the Moth. But then stories like Red Mass, Skincarver and Fiends of Dope Island deliver a dose of classic horror!

Damien Casey is one of those fantastic authors that more people should be reading. A serious hidden gem in the horror community.
This collection was brilliant. Under the wire was so good I read it twice.
The humour too, such dark, twisted brilliant humour.
You're missing a real treat if you don't get this

Fiends of Dope Island - This was a fun, fast paced story to kick off this collection. I know just by the subject matter that this will be a hit for the beauty to my beast. πŸ§„πŸ§„πŸ§„πŸ§„/5 heads of fire roasted garlic

Under the Wires - I wasn't sure where this one was going but the author did a good job of making the villain of the story unlikable and the hero was unexpected. πŸ›€πŸ›€πŸ›€.5/5 less than relaxing baths

Swing the Big Eyed Rabbits - I can't help but feel that this story was written in a way to allow the reader to experience the chaos that comes with a mind that never stops. It felt like a constant noise that stops you from completing any one thought at a time, not in a bad way. πŸ§•πŸŒ»πŸ₯ƒπŸ›°/5 I'm not even sure what this rating system is anymore

Satanic Rites of Mother Nature - This was such a fun read. The concept had me hooked from the beginning and I was not expecting the ending that we got. Gave me Starship Troopers vibes in the best way. 🌹🌹🌹🌹.5/5 attack roses

My Biggest Fear : An Essay by Suzanne Crampton - Movies are easily my first love, particularly horror movies, so this one hooked me immediately. MY BIGGEST FEAR felt like a True Life : I'm a final girl episode. I felt genuinely bad for Suzanne Crampton from the very beginning but she still showed the perseverance that epitomizes a final girl. πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈπŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ/5 Wonder Women

Be a Carcass Be a Dead Pork - Damien Casey definitely brings the weird in his writing and I am here for it. I never know how a story is going to conclude until the end, even then I sometimes need to go back and read parts because I simply missed something. πŸͺ±πŸͺ±πŸͺ±πŸͺ±/5 graboids for this one

Mystery Plane - If you haven't noticed, I relate a lot of things to movies. To me this one felt like a little bit country and a... wait that's not right. This felt like a hybrid between Independence Day, Species, and the Manchurian Candidate. Fun read and interesting concept. 🐣🐣🐣🐣/5 hybrid bundles of joy

Antipope - Growing up without religion in my life, religious themed stories often fail to connect with me. I enjoyed this story but it didn't hold much significance for me. Still an entertaining read from a heathen standpoint though! 😈😈😈.5/5 devilish blasphemers

Smell of Female - I liked the twist in this one but the first part lost me a little. Did make me think of a meme I saw years ago, "On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog." 😺🐟😺/5 catfish

Call of the Wighat - I've always known that cats were dicks. This one is a likable one though. This was just honestly a fun read 🐈🐈🐈🐈/5 ancient cat gods just trying to find a litter box

Henry and the Moth - This story was just fun. It brought me back to my childhood, watching movies that scared me, trying to prove I was brave by sitting through them. Makes me want to have some monster friends. πŸ‘ΎπŸ‘ΎπŸ‘ΎπŸ‘Ύ.5/5

Skincarver - This was a good, twisted revenge tale that I thought was going one way but took a turn that was even better. πŸ”ͺπŸ”ͺπŸ”ͺπŸ”ͺπŸ”ͺ/5 pairing knives

WAP : Weird A$$ Phantom - I feel like I've said this so many times with this collection but this story was just weird, quirky fun. I loved it from the very beginning. If you hate fun then skip this story. πŸ₯«πŸ₯«πŸ₯«πŸ₯«πŸ₯«/5 cans of soup

Redmass - This story highlights an inescapable truth about the world, mankind is the most heinous monster. Small minds will cause more damage than any Eldritch God. Also, the ending of this was a bloody, gory good time. 🩸🩸🩸🩸.5/5 drops of inbred blood

Overall : This collection was so random but so much fun. The stories were varied and different than others I have read before. πŸ’€πŸ‘ΉπŸ«πŸ«€πŸ•/5 random skull demon lung heart pizzas for this wild ride

There is so much I want to say about SCDHTRB but I'd be here all day. This was such a wild, random, weird, hilarious, horrifying, and refreshing collection. Damien has a mind of his own and isn't afraid to write exactly what's on it, and I appreciate that so much as a reader and fellow writer. This was my first read by Damien, but not my last. Get your hands on this now, 5 stars!
