A Case of Extreme Mistaken Identity (The Billionaire Club, #2) Reviews
-
This story was a funny one centered around a pretty big mistaken identity. Hence the title of the book. Danica has a pretty famous father which has thrown her into the spotlight her whole life. After a backfired plan with her "friends," she finds herself stranded at a Billionaire Resort, without money and her father's wrath.
Danica's character was one that I felt sorry for. Especially the more the book revealed her backstory and struggles. I loved watching her find joy in the little things she started to experience for the first time. I laughed out loud several times at her cleaning antics, but I also cheered her on as she didn't let those little mistakes (and sometimes big mistakes) deter her from trying her best.
Austin's character was great! I really loved his goodness and his willingness to help Danica. He knew who she was but she didn't know who he was. Talk about coming back to bite you in the face when the lie (ok, maybe not lie on his part, it wasn't intentional and you'll have to read the book to understand) is revealed. The friendship that builds between Danica and Austin was one of my favorite aspects of this story. Austin was so good about helping Danica to not be so hard on herself and to give herself more credit. She needed someone like that in her life. A champion for her gaining more self confidence. I couldn't imagine being in the spotlight all the time and every little thing I did overanalyzed and completely wrong and talked about by everyone and their dog. No thank you!!!
There's some sweet and clean romance as well in this book. I liked the ending a lot. I like books that show us the growth of characters and I enjoyed seeing that happen in Danica. She was sweet and found some gumption to navigate her life. Go Danica!!! I'm proud of you girl!
Content: Clean. Some talk about partying but nothing graphic or more than some drinking. Some kisses but nothing more.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Happy Reading!!! -
Light-Hearted Fun!
After flying to the Grand Cayman with “friends,” Dani finds herself in the middle of another online scandal. Her father, a famous actor, cuts her off and tells her to find a job, clean up her own mess, and find her own way home.
Dani has been pampered her whole life. She’s not a snob, but she is naive about the way the world works. She ends up getting a job housekeeping at the resort which leads to hilarious missteps!
She meets a maintenance worker, who’s actually a NFL quarterback, not a maintenance worker. His original sympathy turns to friendship, and eventually more.
I loved the sweet romance, the adorable dates, the flirting, and the added suspense in this book. I couldn’t understand Danica’s father though! He left her in a foreign country with few life skills, no place to stay, and no money for food. Even with a job, what did he expect her to do until she got paid? I wanted to see more resolution between them. I’m so glad that Austin came to the rescue! I enjoyed seeing Dani find herself, and develop more confidence.
There was a sneak peek for the next book in the series, A Deception of Massive Proportions. I don’t know how I’ll wait six months for its release!
Content: clean (some kissing, no language, mild violence) -
The second book in the Billionaires Club series, and my first time reading this author. I picked this up as a freebie on Amazon – a great way to get people to try an author out and see if they’re to taste.
Sadly, this was a no-go for me. The heroine was TSTL, the hero was a bit one dimensional and the “stalker” storyline was as obvious as the nose on my face. I did read it start to finish, so I had enough interest in it to see it through, but this really wasn’t my cup of tea at all. The writing has some good potential, but the character development needs more work. -
I needed some kind of light break, so I am not (much) angry that I read it. But it was too naive, unbelievable, etc. to enjoy it.
I think it is for a very specific target: young girls/teenagers, that search for a clean sweet romance with some message (although, rather obvious and known message). And it isn't one of those romances for young girls who can be enjoyable for an adult woman (at least, not for me).
I forgot I have read another book by the author (
here link to my review of that book). If I had checked it earlier, I wouldn't have taken this freebie. My feelings are the same about both novels. -
Funny story, endearing characters
I wasn’t quite sure if I would like this look. I am very happy that I decided to give it a try. It helps that it’s on Kindle unlimited that I can just check it out. The beginning had so many crazy moments. I just kept imagining a Paris Hilton type being a maid. The mistakes she made were so funny. She did have a great attitude thru the whole thing. Even though she was quite naïve she was very endearing as a character. There was definitely some Insta like going on but I’m so glad that the story turned out how it did, it made it so much more believable and real when they got to their happy ever after. Definitely a book to check out.
Rating: PG, sweet, clean -
When Danica wakes up in the Grand Cayman Islands after a night out with her "friends", who by the way are nowhere to be found, and yet another YouTube video showing her alcohol fueled antics, her father has had enough and cuts her off immediately! No credit cards, no private plane back home, nothing, nada, zilch, and he tells her she has to find her own way home. Danica, who's never done housework of any kind gets a job as a maid at the high class resort where she spent the night.
Football star Austin Scott is hiding out at a high class resort to let his knee heal from an injury. Bored out of his mind, he offers to help another renter with a plumbing issue. When Danica runs into him, she mistakes him for a janitor and he doesn't correct her because he figures he'll never see her again. Austin couldn't be more wrong about that assumption.
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book when I first started it. Danica came across as a pampered and spoiled actor's daughter but as the story unfolded I started to really feel for her. Her father didn't seem to pay attention to her unless she got into trouble, she didn't have any real friends--just leaches who use you until they can't and then move on to another rich person, and despite her expensive education, no one had taught her how things worked in the real-world. Even her so called boyfriend had used her to get a part in a movie, then dropped her like it was nothing.
I loved Austin. He could've just left Danica to deal with everything by herself so many times, but he didn't. I was so glad he didn't leave her at the cheap motel--who knows what would've happened to her, because the girl didn't have anything resembling street smarts. I loved when they went to the e bargain store to shop for clothes and found the math t-shirt Dear Algebra, please stop asking us to find your x. She's never coming back. LOL. I liked how Austin wouldn't let Danica talk bad about herself like saying she was stupid. If it wouldn't have been for him she wouldn't have wanted to see if she could make it on her own. I knew that Austin not telling her he wasn't a janitor was going to come back and bite him in the rear, and it did. Big time! Thankfully he was able to get her to see he wasn't like her former boyfriend.
I didn't understand Danica's father at all. I understood him being upset with her and cutting off her credit cards, etc, but at least get the girl back home to the U.S. first, instead of leaving her stranded with no money or access to any money in a foreign country. I would've liked to have seen more interaction with her father once she got back and starting living on her own. They had some issues to work out and I would've like to have had at least a peek of that. This is a clean romance.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but bought an ebook when it went on sale for Christmas. All thoughts expressed in my review are my own. -
I wanted to like this story so much and the blurb sounded really cute so I took a chance on a new author. Unfortunately this was just too.....boring really. Danica is the "fish out of water" rich girl who is forced by circumstances to get and keep a real job. Of course she's just misunderstood and naïve not spoiled and she's determined to make her father proud while scrubbing toilets and making beds as a cleaning woman. Danica meets Austin, an NFL quarterback recovering from an injury and since he had a wrench in his hand he must be a maintenance man. If he doesn't design $200 t-shirts she wouldn't know who he is. The whole story was a bit pedestrian in dialogue and circumstances. Danica came across (to me) as a bit dense and Austin came across as just boring. So while they seemed a good match they weren't much fun to read about. Throwing in a psycho girlfriend wanna be couldn't even spice this one up. Nope.

This was a fun read! I really liked our main characters, Dani and Austin. Dani could be quite naive and ignorant at times, but she also had this massive charm about her. She was so sweet at times, it was so lovely to read. Austin was also a sweetheart. I loved having a look into his brain and seeing all the things he thought about Dani.
While I did quite like this book, I also definitely think it could be improved. I get that Dani has trust issues but sometimes it was a bit too much. Not to mention that I feel like we never really got the full scope of what both their lives were like. I would have loved to explore more about Dani’s relationship with her father. At the end of the book they were on good terms but it didn’t feel deserved, we never really understood his motivations. There were a couple of other things I would have liked to see but I shan’t dwell on them. Just know that this was a really good read! -
Not bad just lacked a bit of depth which may have then warranted a higher rating. I enjoyed the character growth of Danica and the exploration given to her self esteem issues. Wish the arc regarding her dad was more consistent and better fleshed out. One moment, he's the perpetually disappointed dad but in the next moment they have a great relationship (when did this happen?!). More depth could have been given to Austin also, he seemed a little cookie cutter. Also the random mystery inserted out of no where right smack bang in the middle of the book kind of threw me for a loop (with Austin's ex Claire showing up as a psycho). All this to say, I knew I was signing up for fluffy when I entered this book and fluffy is what I got.

Danica Jordan is the ditzy little rich girl. Beautiful and oblivious. When she wakes up in a hotel room not knowing what happened things go down hill. Dani trusted the wrong people. Her father has finally had it with her recklessness. He cuts her off and tells her to find her own way home. Then Dani runs into Austin Scott, a man she thinks is a maintenance man. He is actually a famous quarter back. But instead of correcting Dani he goes along with it. He only means to help her. But eventually his omission catches up to him.
This was a cute story. Poor little rich girl. Dani was sweet but very naïve. Austin was the constant do-gooder. Captain Save a Hoe if you will. It was funny at times. But I just couldn't get into it. The cheese was thick. -
Dangerously naive.
An attempt to write complex characters, but with content that restricts them to one shallow level. And tries to mix in some pseudo crime/danger to bridge the gap.
It's like reading about adult kindergarteners. -
This is a very sweet, clean romance. Suitable for all ages. No sex. No swearing. Stand-alone. Similar in style to Taylor Hart and Cami Checketts, Jennifer Youngblood, to name just a few. I liked it.

Choices
She lacks confidence and goes from one bad choice to the next. He assumed she was a spoiled airhead but discovered much more. -
Disappointed in this one. I’ve liked this author in the past, but the characters in this book fell short. If you saw on tv a professional quarterback and a ditzy daughter of a celebrity actor you may think there is not much substance to their relationship. This fictional story proves just that. There was nothing about Dani, the main character, to like. She was coddled her whole life and had no friends, just partied, and had no life skills and suddenly we are supposed to like her? Austin was more likable, but what would he see in her?
I would have liked to see her confront her friends and there was no mention of her Dr Pepper being spiked which obviously happened. -
A sweet and fun mistaken identity story. Fairly predictable but still enjoyable read.
The heroine is a society princess who is actually just lonely and who has been portrayed in a bad light by the media. The hero is an injured NFL player on a short break to recover and rest his knee.
She is cut off by her father and finds a job as a cleaner at the resort our hero is staying at. When they meet she believes he is actually the resort's maintenance man.
This is a sweet and clean romance with no descriptive love scenes. -
The male MC was too perfect. The female MC was okay. The story was just okay. I honestly thought the person sending threatening notes and causing all the bad media attention was going to be her dad's secretary. And maybe that the secretary had murdered her mother because she wanted the dad. I wasn't surprised at all by who the stalker turned out to be, but it didn't explain much of what happened in Danica's life. My way would have been better 😉🤣.

This was a cute, short read. Very unique setting! It gives us a glimpse into the life of a famous person, dealing with paparazzi and being unable to trust who your true friends are. Which is a big part of the relationship in this book. I enjoyed the characters and the plot, I would have liked to see it a little more rounded out. But all in all a cute story.

A clean sweet read. It is a quick easy read. Dani is a heiress who finds herself in trouble after trusting the wrong people. Austin is a quarterback in the NFL hanging out at a resort resting his injured knee. There meeting was unconventional as was there unintentional courtship. It wasn’t all realistic but it had a happy feel to it that I enjoyed.

Danica is a spoiled child. She always has gotten everything on a silver platter. However, when her father cuts her off while she is staying at an expensive resort, she does not know what to do. She has to earn enough money to fly home. She is in the Grand Cayman's and is not used to working. She does the first thing she can think of doing. She gets a job at the resort.
She starts working and things don't go well. She is not making friends, she is a disaster at cleaning. It takes her 4 times as long to clean a bedroom as the other maids.
While in the midst of cleaning, Danica runs into Austin. She thinks Austin's a janitor and Austin does not correct her assumption. He is really a professional football player.
Austin starts helping Danica out in little ways. He starts helping her become more comfortable with her job and herself.
As they get to know each other, they find that they like each other. However, Austin has to leave the island and continue with his career. Both of them have to decide what to do with their relationship. They have to decide if their is a relationship.
When a stalker enters into the equation, what will happen?
This book has its serious moments and then it counters those with funny moments. This book is a gem along with the author.
I look forward to many more books by Victorine Lieske -
There’s something lacking and I can’t figure out what it is. The story is predictable. The villain is obvious. The connection between the main characters is kind of there, maybe? But let’s face it, the trope rarely allows for anything new. I can only imagine then that it’s the written word that is lacking. I don’t get drawn in. There’s little to no characterisation. I need more.
Austin is a likeable hero, though the stutter is a weird little quirk. Since we don’t delve deep into any one character, it seems unnecessary. Dani is… sweet? Though why she’s heavy drinking with people she doesn’t trust, is anyone’s guess. I think the thing/ person that annoys me the most is Dani’s father. What kind of famous father, whose wife was killed by a stalker, doesn’t employ security for his daughter? Would said father really leave her stranded in a foreign country (or any country), penniless and without the skills to look out for herself? I HATE the father. (Not sure he had a name, if he did I missed it, as he’s an unseen plot device). I just find him and the whole situation ridiculous. And the less I say about the ‘unexpected villain/threat’ the better.
I definitely won’t be reading this author again, as her plots are too half-baked to even be considered a nice, easy read. Sorry Lieske, but you aren’t for me. -
Another one that’s cute and sweet.
Danica is stranded at the billionaire club after her father cuts her off, forcing her to get any job she can to try to earn money to make her way back home. She meets a famous football player named Austin who is recovering from an injury and doesn’t realize who he is. She thinks he’s a maintenance man. And he lets her believe it, not wanting to deal with anyone who’s only with him because he’s famous. The two spend a lot of time together and he realizes she’s not just some stupid socialite and he starts to fall for her. She was hurt by an ex and has a hard time trusting him even though she wants to be with him. But what happens when her father finally agrees to let her come back home? What happens when she’s finally free to be with Austin but no longer wants to live life in the limelight?
This is a cute story of these two people just having some time away from it all And falling for each other. Austin shows Danica that she has a lot more going for her and she thinks it helps her to believe in herself when her father never seem to believe in her. She’s a better person when she’s finally ready for her happily ever after. -
Austin has a purpose in his life and wants to share it with Dani. But some obstacles are tough to overcome. Austin is a quarterback and loves what he does and is a sweet southern gentleman. He is at a resort recovering from an injury. Dani is a rich and spoiled you lady with no purpose for life at all but to have fun. When things go horribly wrong for her, she relies on her dad to fix things. But this time, dad is not going to fix things. Instead, he gives her an ultimatum. What? This is such a fun and delightful story of how Dani learns that she is more than a spoiled rich kid. She is smart and wants to have a great work ethic. She is starting to see what the NON-Rich people go through. Along the way Dani and Austin become friends and she finds that she is starting to have a purpose in her own life.

Danica has grown up as a spoiled child of a very wealthy man. She gets in trouble one too many times and her father cuts off her credit cards when she is in the Grand Caymans. She has no clue what to do so decides to get a job at the resort as a maid. It is way out of her skill set and the results are pretty funny. She meets Austin who she assumes is a janitor. He is actually a pro football player on medical leave. He does not correct her assumption. He helps her with some of the problems she runs into, and they become friends. Danger comes when a stalker arrives.

Sweet, contemporary sports/Hollywood romance
Romance, sweet, contemporary, sports/celebrity; series but stand alone read
Dani and Austin’s stumble into each others lives was a sweet fall. Two honest hearts learning to get to know each other, and Austin watching out for her as she stumbled through her new reality after being betrayed by two people she thought were friends.
A stalker, her Dad cutting her off, and her work as a hotel maid with Austin’s help, made for a lovely sweet fall. -
Very fun but left me with a few unanswered questions

I enjoyed this book. The mistaken identity plot works very well. The characters are fun and a clean romance is always a plus in my case! I did have a few unanswered questions at the end, but that is because enquiring minds want to know! I look forward to the next book in the series. I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
