Astrid Carlisle enjoys her job at Satera Industries, the massive interplanetary organization whose enigmatic leader is concerned with profits first and legalities second. Stationed at company headquarters, she can stay out of harm’s way while making good use of her programming skills and keen eye for talent acquisition. Unfortunately, both the busy nature of her work and her office’s remote location leave her feeling dissatisfied with her personal life.

Fresh out of the Central United Space Marines, Tabitha Knox is ready for change, hoping the next stage in her career can take place in the private sector. Employment with Satera Industries would offer her the exciting, fast-paced work she craves, with generous financial compensation to match. All she has to do is get through the rigorous screening process and prove her worth.

The two women meet during the early stages of Tabitha’s application, and their mutual attraction is instant. However, Astrid has been hurt in the past and is cautious about moving too quickly, leading her to devise a plan. She suggests the pair enter the simulations used to test applicants and fight their way through the various environments. If Tabitha can successfully track her down in each phase, she’ll win the ultimate prize: a lucrative job, plus Astrid’s trust and submission. Everything she wants is within reach, but will she be able to achieve her dreams while hunting Astrid?

Hunting Astrid is a futuristic sci fi slow-burn FF romance from the talented author Thea Landen.

This is an imaginative sci-fi romance where the imaginary world and the romance are equally important and equally detailed.

    Can love blossom in orbit?

I appreciated the slow burn approach to this tale. It was nice to get to know Astrid and Tabitha so well before anything romantic or sexual began happening between them. All of those scenes also helped to make some pretty convincing arguments about why these two characters would be perfect for each other. They had multiple opportunities to discover just how emotionally compatible they were, and that was exactly the right choice for them.

While I certainly wouldn’t have expected a full chapter on this topic, it would have been helpful to have a little more world building. The Zeta-16 space station seemed like a fascinating place to live and work. I would have liked to know more about it so that I could better understand why Astrid chose to work there even though she found it so lonely at times. If the author ever decides to write a sequel, I’d sure like to see what she might do with this in particular.

Astrid and Tabitha had excellent chemistry. I enjoyed the flirtatious banter between them just as much as I did seeing how well they both responded to each other’s boundaries and wishes. They were both emotionally intelligent women who were good at reading other people’s nonverbal cues. When this was combined with all of the goals and interests they shared in common, it was easy for them to progress from acquaintances to something more than that.

Hunting Astrid was a sizzling read that I’d recommend to fans of erotica and science fiction alike.

This is a super-quick, satisfying science-fiction read. My only complaint? I needed more!
We’re thrust right into the action of Astrid’s job at Satera Industries as we follow candidates as they work their way through a virtual reality that Astrid helped create and rank the candidates. One catches her eye, even without knowing what they look like. Red is skilled, cautious, but has the potential to be a leader.

If all that wasn’t attractive enough, once Astrid learns who Red is after a training exercise, and seeing her on the subway on their way home, Astrid is physically attracted to Tabitha. No matter how intense Astrid’s initial feelings for Tabitha, she’s still scared because of past relationships.
Oh my goodness, I felt Astrid’s conflicting feelings in my soul. She wanted to become close to Tabitha, but she was terrified of getting hurt again. Eventually, they find a way to get closer, hunting missions through virtual reality. The prize? Tabitha would get Astrid anyway she wanted her.

Landen had a way of putting you in each of the virtual realities these characters found themselves in. I enjoyed being put right into the tropic rain forest, in a city under attack. It was rich and seamless. This is what you want in a science-fiction story, no matter how short, it was a well-developed world that I wouldn’t mind visiting again.

It was quick and good read, no drama and nothing much happening (which isn't a bad thing), however I don't think the title properly express what happened in the story, even though it's correct. I wouldn't mind reading more about them, they were interesting enough and almost anything in space is always good.

3 stars. This was okay. I think it could’ve leaned more on the sci-fi element because that felt super weak. Astrid and Tabitha did have decent chemistry but as individuals they were surface level and forgettable. The steamy scene was good though and it ended when it needed to. It’s a very quick read but nothing all that great.

It's a short but sweet novella which I liked to read. Playing catch me to get to know Tabitha better was fun and she loved it. Even as a developer of the simulations it also was not easy Astrid to win in them. Read it and have fun.

In the end, it was a slow build to a tit for tat sexual experience followed by an HFN. There was nothing wrong with this one, but there was nothing that held me down and made want more either. It was a perfectly serviceable romance. I’ll read more, but I want more, too.

I think if the book is fleshed out with more action, it would have certainly had a solid four stars from me. Let’s talk about that cover for a moment … gorgeous! I also really hope there’s more stories in this world. I like all the technology and advances the author describes.
