And then, the queen of the new coregent has a special task for him which may involve dragging Hani’s nineteen-year-old daughter into court politics. He must find a way to see justice done and yet protect his family… and his conscience.

‘The North Wind Descends’ is book four in, ‘The Lord Hani Mysteries’ series and having read the previous books in the series I was looking forward to this novel and was definitely not disappointed. It can be read as a standalone story, however I feel that the reader will enjoy the novels more if they are read in order. Set in ancient Egypt, around 1340 BCE, Lord Hani, an Egyptian Diplomat and his assistant Maya have another crime mystery to solve. Hani is confused when the king starts honouring him but he must not let that get in the way of discovering the identity of a man who was responsible for killing a foreign ambassador right under the roof of the Egyptian commissioner in Kumidi. As well as being a diplomat Hani is also a loving family man and so he is concerned when the queen of the new coregent gives him a special task which may involve Hani’s nineteen year old daughter as he does not want her caught up in court politics. Hani therefore must see justice done but in away that protects his family.
The authors knowledge and research shines through in her writing and I found the list of characters at the beginning of the book very helpful as there are a lot of characters to keep up with. The Glossary of Places, Terms, and Gods, is also a useful addition at the beginning of the book and one which I referred back to at times. The author really brings ancient Egypt to life with her wonderfully descriptive narrative and world building and this really helps set the scene for this novel. Hani makes a great main character as he is well defined and is both relatable and likeable and he really brings the plot together. The storyline flows well and the plot is fast paced and full of action, drama and mystery which had me gripped from start to finish. The twists and turns kept me guessing and I enjoyed figuring out the mystery element of the book alongside Lord Hani. I look forward to future books in this enjoyable and engaging series.

The North Wind Descends (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 4) by N.L. Holmes is another exciting tale in this historical mystery set in ancient Egypt and Lord Hani. In this book we see him and his daughter once again working together solving the latest mystery and yet again finding themselves in the midst of danger, lies and secrets. The North Winds Descend by N.L. Holmes a fabulous four-star read. This is number four in the Lord Hani series, but you don’t need to have read them all, as they will keep you up to date, there are recurring characters and if you like a good mystery then you will be worth going back as they really are great. Once again Hani and brings his daughter into the fold, also into danger, you will be on the edge of your seat and leave you wondering. These mysteries just keep getting better and better, honestly you will just be kept guessing at every turn.

The North Wind Descends (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 4)
    By N.L. Holmes
    5 out of 5 stars

I loved reading the book The North Wind Descends (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 4) by N.L. Holmes. It is a brilliantly written story that is full of intrigue and danger. The story has Lord Hani wondering why the king starts to honor him. He also has a new commission and a request from the queen. Hani is walking a thin line that has him seeking the truth while keeping those he loves safe. What does the future hold for Lord Hani? Read this book to find out. I don’t have enough words to say how I am enjoying this series. This story and the others in the series have complex and superb storylines and amazing characters that come alive. I feel like I am right there with them. This book pulled me in right from the beginning and I didn’t want to put it down until the final page. Don’t miss out on a story that includes mystery and is an exciting and entertaining read. I highly recommend reading it.

Hani again finds himself in a difficult place. In the Kong’s good graces, yet still needing to solve a murder. This is the fourth book in this series, and it was just as engrossing as the last three. I really hope this isn’t the end of the series

1340 BCE. Tensions are high in Kemet under the sun king, Akhenaten, who has just named his brother Smenkhkare as co-regent. During a commission to visit with the vassal kings and ensure their loyalty, Lord Hani is called upon to investigate the murder of a Babylonian diplomat. He is accompanied by his secretary and son-in-law, Maya, and the search soon leads to a shocking secret affecting Hani’s family. And if the murderer isn’t identified, Hani’s failure could lead to war.

While everything looks New Kingdom Egyptian from the regional clothing styles, the complex political situation, the social structures, and setting details, the dialogue is peppered with modern inflections. Hani and Maya sound more like 18th-century British gents than Egyptian with their use of “my boy” and calling out men as “a dandy” or their rooms as “these digs.” And while Thebes is referred to by its Egyptian name, Waset, I was perplexed as to why the population referred to themselves as “Thebans,” harkening to its Greek-given title. Hani also mentions thoughts battering the walls inside his head. Egyptians believed thoughts arose from the heart, not the head. That idea wasn’t proposed until 6th century BCE by the Greek philosopher Alcmaeon.

Overall, this is a story about family with a diverse cast of characters. The mystery is less rich than the character dynamics. It is easy to empathize with Hani’s father, wife, daughters, sons, and friends. The author does a commendable job balancing personal and political plotlines. Details about clothing and cosmetics, social life, and architecture are immensely enjoyable. While some dialogue feels slightly out of place, the story is entrancing on many levels, especially with its vibrant characters. The novel can be read as a standalone, and I look forward to more from this series.

I came back to this series after a gap, I had read the first one, The lightning horse but did not read books 2 and 3. So I was a little apprehensive when I picked this book. I had the background of the characters but over the span of four books, they have all changed, aged and characters have been introduced.
The book starts off with a murder mystery which the Egyptian diplomat Hani has to solve and this time around, a specific request from the queen has to be honored.
The plot is complex, and there are lots of twists and turns. There is a murderer on loose and Hani’s family is in jeopardy. His daughter also gets involved and Hani finds himself tangled in a complex puzzle which becomes increasingly difficult to solve.
This book blends historic fiction and mystery beautifully. It is a very fast read, and it keeps the readers on their toes on what is coming next. Overall, a very compelling and an enjoyable read.

This is the fourth book in this series. This is a story that is full of action and suspense that I had a hard time putting down. I highly suggest reading the previous books in this series to get the enrichment of this series. This is a well developed story that has twists and turns that kept me turning pages. This is an engaging story that has characters that bring the story to life. This is a story that has a lot going on but the author did a good job of keeping things straight. Hani finds himself in the king's good graces but he still must find a murderer. Is it possible for him to find justice and keep his family safe at the same time? This is such a great story that I highly recommend.

This is the 4th book in the Lord Hani  Mysteries series. I really can't praise these books enough. They are full of Ancient Egyptian history and mystery which are my two favourite things. The authors knowledge of the time period is very good and they really give you a sense of what life would be like in the times of Ancient Egypt.

Lord Hani is back and when he is honoured by the king he wonders why? All through the kings reign Lord Hani has been a thorn in the kings side so why now is he being honoured. Things aren't what they seem of that Hani is sure.

Add to this a task he is asked to complete with means getting his daughter involved in court politics and Hani struggles to protect her and keep her out of things.

Why did the king give him this honour? Can he protect his daughter and stop the court politics from involving her or is it too late to protect her anymore.

    Very good mystery

Well-written and has an authentic feeling to the settings and characters. I enjoyed the rollout of the plot and its resolution. Interested in reading more in the series.

This time period has quickly become one of my favorites as N.L. Holmes writes a gripping and suspense thrill of a read. This is a layered story that is quite pleasing.

The North Wind Descends is a delightful dive into ancient Egypt. If you enjoy historical settings and submerging yourself into ancient cultures, this book keeps you pleasantly engaged. The story follows Lord Hani on a diplomatic mission that unravels as he tackles a murder mystery, deceitful ploys and political intrigue.

My only nitpick would be the pacing. The narrative could have been trimmed down to focus more on the plot. I adore historical fiction, but sometimes even I felt bogged down by the ancient names and terminology. Otherwise, the characters really shone through and I was invested in Lord Hani's adventure. You don't have to worry about reading the series out of order either because this was my first Lord Hani mystery and it wasn't a problem that it was the fourth book. Overall, The North Wind Descends is a pleasant read and a fun escape into the past.

The North Wind Descends (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 4) by N.L. Holmes, is another excellent book. I can’t say enough good things about N.L.Holmes and her excellent ancient history novels. Besides her artistic use of the English language to evoke signs and sounds that take the reader to ancient Egypt, I love the way her characters sound like any normal family you know. Not only is the Lord Hani hot on the trail of a new mystery, but this mystery is also wrapped in family love. This is quite a contrast to the villain in the story. Time is never wasted with an N.L.Holmes book.

    The North Wind Descends
The Lord Hani Series book 4
    By
    N. L. Holmes

In book 4 we see more of Lord Hani’s children as they are getting older and are becoming more established. As with the other books, Lord Hani and Maya have a Mystery to solve. Each book includes plenty of historical background that keeps you filled in on their environment. The author does a good job setting the family background and dianamentics. This book can be read as a stand alone or as I recommend in order.

    4 Stars

The North Wind Descends is the fourth book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L Holmes. This is an historical mystery set in ancient Egypt- with plenty of historical detailing, intrigue, drama, and interesting characters. I am enjoying following Hani along on his mystery solving escapades- and the Lord Hani series is definitely my favourite of all the N.L Holmes books. I love the historical details of the story and the authors passion for the period- her in-depth knowledge and familiarity with the historical aspects of the times really does enhance to the whole atmosphere of the story.
Hani is a fantastic character, who along with the rest of the cast, help to bring this story alive. He is a loving family man, as well as a respected diplomat. This mystery tests Hani, again, and brings with it more political agendas. Murder, intrigue, family, and political tension made for a great read.
Looking forward to seeing what Hani gets up to in the next book!

    Thank you, N.L Holmes!

The North Wind Descends (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 4) by N.L. Holmes. I have truly loved this historical mystery series. This is the 4th entry and its just as good if not better than the previous 3! Its the continuing saga of Lord Hani and in this installment he's trying to figure out why the King is honoring him. He is trying to find a murderer and at the same time keep his family safe. The new Queen seems to have a weird fascination with his daughter and will he be able to do his job and keep her safe as well? Set in Ancient Egypt I feel as if I have traveled there because of the wonderful descriptions. Hani is first and foremost a family man but he is also a highly regarded diplomat and will do whatever it takes to keep peace even when he may have to cross a line! I recommend reading these in order to get the full effect. You will not be disappointed!

The North Wind Descends by NL Holmes is the fourth book in the Lord Hani mysteries series. Hani is once more thrown into political intrigue and might bring his teenage daughter into the political fold. This series gets better with each and every book. I do recommend reading the series in order because the books do build on each other especially concerning the character development but most importantly all the inner workings and politics Hani is faced throughout his life. I really enjoy all the political twists and turns and the historical element of the story. I have read other books in the same region but not during the time. I really look forward to reading more from this series and from this author in the future.

The Lord Hani Mysteries are interesting historical mysteries. I have found myself reading these books in one sitting. I think that this book is the best so far in the series. The series is set in Ancient Egypt. N.L. Homes does an outstanding job of writing in the time period. The details are amazing and can be seen in my mind’s eye. The characters are engaging. Lord Hani is trying to keep his daughter safe from the new Queen. He is also looking for a murderer trying to keep his family safe. Can Hani keep his family safe? Can he find the murderer? Will the King keep honoring him? I recommend reading this series and read them in order so you will get more enjoyment out of the series.

The North Wind Descends (The Lord Hani Mysteries Book 4) by N.L. Holmes. Once again I found myself completely hooked on this series with this book. When I first started I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’ve gone outside my comfort zone but these books just keep getting better. I love the world this author has created with words. I find it hard to put the book down even when life gets in the way. The characters are complex and truly unique, they definitely bring the story to life. I like being kept on my toes and guessing what’s about to happen and this author does that well. This book is just as good as the rest and I can’t wait to see where the author takes us next. Four stars and highly recommended.
