When she receives an anonymous tip on the killer’s identity, she follows the lead and an attempt is made on her life. Clay, having received the same tip, comes to her rescue. Thinking he can help find her father's killer and keep an eye on her safety too, he quickly offers Nighthawk Security’s help.

Problem is, Clay is right there by her side, offering her comfort and support, and protecting her from menacing danger. She soon has to fight feelings she’s developing for him when her focus should be on the investigation and staying alive.
Night Hawk (Nighthawk Security #3) Reviews

Susan Sleeman has done it again! She gives us book three in her Nighthawk Security series, a group of brothers, former law enforcement, who have opened a private security firm. This book is Clay Byrd's story. He is led to an abandoned school by a cryptic note, only to hear a woman scream when he arrives. FBI Agent Toni Long has been shut in a room and needs help. Toni was once infatuated with Clay, but an op gone bad derailed that. Her father was killed in front of her and Clay and now they both suspect this note has something to do with that. But further investigation reveals something incredibly sinister and they must dodge attempts on Toni's life if they want to solve this case.
Sleeman always, always takes her readers on a thrilling ride, ratcheting up the suspense little by little until the race to the finish is full of excitement and intensity. I am a forever fan! We also meet old friends from her two previous series. Highly recommended.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. I received no compensation and the opinion here is entirely my own. -
3.5 stars
" . . . .he needed to make sure she didn't walk away when this investigation was over."
And she could. She had said as much. Would he even be able to stop her if she did?
Former ICE Agent Clay Byrd and FBI Agent Toni Long had experienced a lot of remorse over a previous joint operation gone wrong; their suspect had escaped and Toni's dad had been killed. Why he had even been there in the first place remained a mystery. Guilt over the fact that their initial attraction could have been a distraction in the case, Toni and Clay never followed through on their feelings and had gone their separate ways.
Now drawn back together by separate but similar enigmatic notes, they are nearly killed, reigniting their determination to find a murderer. As layer upon layer of unanswered questions are uncovered, a body count begins to mount and Clay's family rallies around the two, fully utilizing all the resources that Nighthawk Security has to offer. Will it be enough?
Enjoy the fast pace that this story offers, while sharing the frustration of its never-ending dead ends with its characters. As an entire law enforcement community races against time to put vile, violent offenders behind bars, Toni begins to wonder if she will ever be able to solve her true feelings about a man who cares deeply, but continually confuses.
"Maybe now would be a good time for prayer." -
Clay Byrd finds a mysterious note on his windshield for him to show up at an abandoned school. Once there Clay hears a woman screaming. Once he finds her he realizes that it is Toni, an FBI agent and she is terrified! Why have they been called to the same place and what does this incident have to do with an op that they were on together that ended up with Toni's father dead?
Okay ya'll, I am not going to lie, this one was a tough one for me to read! Not because it was bad in any way, shape or form. The subject matter in this one was a tough one and just happens to be one of those things that has the capacity to make me ill when reading. BUT, that being said, it was an exciting read as always with Susan Sleeman's books! I loved Clay and all of his brothers on the Nighthawk team. He was caring to the point of overdoing it, but when you fall for someone you kind of can't help that! Toni was a strong woman and knew when to accept help yet also knew when to exert her will to get things moving along and to be included in the team. The suspense was nail-biting and whew, quite an evil villain reveal at the end! Once again, I'm loving the Nighthawk series and look forward to the next installment. And how convenient that their mother named them alphabetically so they are easy to remember! Drake is up next! -
Night Hawk by Susan Sleeman is book three in her Nighthawk Security series, featuring the Byrd brothers. The middle brother, Clay, finds himself sucked back into a case he could never solve. One that cost too much and still has too high a price. Especially if he can’t put an end to it for good this time.
FBI Agent Toni Long never expected to see Clay Bryd again. They worked together on a task force to bring in a man trafficking women. A case that closed with her father ending up dead and the lead suspect vanishing. She blames herself for getting distracted by her attraction to Clay. To see him again now, when answers to her father’s death dangle in front of her like bait?
Danger surrounds them and leads encircle them, but Clay and Toni are determined to follow them, not just to keep their own lives safe or because they need answers, but above all for the girls who are victimized by those who traffic them. Which does lead me to a trigger warning. I appreciate how the author treats this difficult subject, focusing on the desire to put the perpetrators behind bars and on how to put an end to the crimes.
Clay and Toni have their relationship challenges, too. Toni is a strong, capable FBI agent, even if Clay wants to protect her. Whether their differences will keep them apart forever is something that you’ll have to read the book to find out. One aspect I greatly enjoyed about this particular story was Clay’s humor, especially as the middle Byrd brother. And, yes, the Byrd family – including Mom and Dad – makes an appearance, whether Clay welcomes their presence or not.
The beginning gets off to a heart-pounding start! And, characteristic of a great Susan Sleeman book, there are plenty of twists and turns, keeping a reader guessing, until the end, which I couldn’t put down until I knew what happened. Better yet, don’t worry if you haven’t started the Nighthawk Security series yet, Night Hawk is one you can pick up and not feel like you missed too much. Though, the past books are so good, I highly recommend reading them, too.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC guidelines. -
I have always enjoyed reading books written by Susan Sleeman because I know they will be full of interesting and very intriguing information. This book continues with that assessment.
She has tackled many social issues in her writings from stalking, kidnapping, murder, drugs use, chemical warfare, national security threats, to this one of sex trafficking.
In this third book of the Nighthawk Security Series, we read about Clay Byrd and hear his story. He used to be an agent for ICE and now he’s working with his brothers, but there was one op that went bad and he couldn’t get it off his mind.
The Nighthawk Security team is a family of brothers and one sister, who are ready to make the city of Portland, as well as the surrounding area, safe. They use their skills and give of their time and resources, to make this happen. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the whole Byrd family, and to see how this big family pulls together and supports each other.
This story at times was very hard to read because of the subject matter. There are innocent lives being made to do things they should never be forced to do. I know life around me isn’t all rosy and at times I want to not think about it. However, I appreciate what this author has done to bring light to this very real problem in our world!
This is one of the reasons I love reading books by Susan Sleeman. She truly paints the picture of what is out there and what we as people need to be aware of. Susan Sleeman doesn’t sugarcoat her stories. They are hard-hitting and gritty.
This book not only has action, tension, and suspense, but there is a bit of romance . . . well, maybe a little more than a bit! These characters learned that it’s okay to rely on others and God because He’s there for us and wants our best.
If you love action, suspense, and intrigue, then I highly recommend you pick this series up and start reading it! However, I have to warn you, once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop! I stayed up way too late to finish this book. WOW!
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own. -
“Night Hawk” the third book in the “Nighthawk Security” series opens as Clay Byrd is lured to an abandoned high school by a cryptic note only to hear screams coming from janitor’s office. Opening the door he finds Toni Long huddled on the floor near a poisonous snake. Struggling to save the woman he was attracted to when they joined forces a year previous in a FBI and Ice investigation which killed her father and saw the killer escape, the two join forces again not only to bring her father’s killer to justice, but to save young girls held hostage in a human trafficking scam.
Fast-paced and emotionally-charged Toni Long who feels guilty for being distracted by her attraction to Clay during the investigation that robbed her of her father, not only struggles with her renewed feelings for him, but with the family secrets in her past that bring danger ever closer.
Well-written and intriguing like all the Night Hawk Security series, Susan Sleeman once again blends mystery, suspense and romance as sparks fly when Clay and Toni join forces to find the sexually abused young girls held hostage, and to bring her father’s killer to justice.
With twists and turns as the secrets in Toni’s past are revealed, and Clay struggles to protect her while searching for an escaped killer, tension is often diffused with light-hearted moments within the Byrd family and a strong element of faith woven throughout the plot. With complex and compelling characters like independent, stubborn and determined FBI Agent Toni Long as well as smart, supportive and genial Clay Byrd, the story rolls seamlessly to a satisfying conclusion.
I enjoyed “Night Hawk” and look forward reading further novels in this enjoyable series. -
My review today is on the Romantic Suspense, Night Hawk. This is book three in the Night Hawk Security Series. I love Susan's books and I'm thrilled when I receive one in the mail or on line. This book is truly awesome. I'm not sure how Susan can keep coming up with new stories and new plots. This story is well written, action packed, and full of drama. Faith as always is an important part of her work.
FBI Agent Tony Long is sent a note to come to the old high school to a janitor's closet. When she arrives in the dark she hears a rattle and is paralyzed. She can't move. She is rescued by a man she had worked with on an op when her father was killed. He and his family come to help investigate what is going down.
Former ICE Agent, now Nighthawk Security Partner Clay Byrd receives a note telling him to come to the janitor's closet in the old high school. There he hears a blood curdling scream. He continues on to the closet only to be locked in. Tony is the woman who screamed. How could he help her when it was his fault her father died. He contacts his fellow workers and his brother only to have him laugh at him. He'll never live this down. As friends and family help examine the old high school they find a dead body. The security team must find out who is after Tony and him. He can't let her down again.
A journey of twists and turns as the try to find the answers to a human trafficking gang. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction. Give your heart to Jesus and watch Him work even in this time of chaos. -
No matter how much one might want to believe that events such as those in this story could never happen in our nation, that will not stop human trafficking from being a real blight on our country. I am grateful that the story focused more on locating the girls and bringing the criminals who were trafficking them to justice than on the horrific acts forced on the girls. The story clearly refers to girls, not grown women. The story had so many twists and turns with some great action, a solid but understated faith held by the protagonists, and some wonderful family scenes. If you have been fortunate enough to be raised in a large family where the siblings have the respect for their parents and each other as the Byrd family, you have been truly blessed. The family sounds almost too good to be true, but I have no doubt that families like theirs exist. One thing is certain: the story will inspire you to work to develop stronger ties with your own siblings. I mentioned faith above. I believe that is the starting point. Just as Toni and Clay were leaning heavily on their faith and working diligently to find the girls who had been held at the old school, we can do the same wherever we are to help make the world a better place. Just watch out for the unexpected curves in the road of life. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

Night Hawk by Susan Sleeman
Nighthawk Security Series Book Three
Clay Byrd had been on a task force to find a human trafficker. They’d failed, and a man was killed. The father of one of the FBI agents on the task force with him. Now, a year later, he meets up with that agent once again as they both received mysterious notes. Seeing Toni again wasn’t quite the way he would’ve wanted it.
FBI Agent Toni Long never gave up searching for her father’s murderer. An evil man had escaped to continue his wicked ways...and her dad was dead. As she joins Clay in finding answers...she finds her life isn’t what she had thought. The more answers they found, the more questions that came with them.
Susan Sleeman writes great suspense romances. Every one has me hanging on every word and are real page-turners. She also really brings her characters to life. As serious as this topic is, I found myself laughing out loud several times. The subject matter in this book is tough, the human trafficking of young girls. Another excellent story that also shows the reader a part of real-life.

This is suspense done right!! Susan Sleeman knows how to do thrilling suspense and this book is no different. It starts off filled with action and the twists and turns take you on such an emotion filled ride that you can't put this book down. I absolutely adore the Byrd family and Clay's story was compelling and completely captivating. He and Toni Long, an FBI agent that Clay worked with when he was an ICE agent, are thrown into a bizarre situation that is Toni's (and mine) worst nightmare. They are both haunted by the case they couldn't solve and when it becomes apparent that the perpetrator that vanished is the one they are now chasing, Clay realizes he has to do everything in his power to protect Toni and solve this case. This case is gritty and Sleeman does a great job of tackling the hard subject matter of human trafficking. With plenty of danger and intrigue and suspense, this book will have your heart pumping. It doesn't help that Clay and Toni are again realizing their feelings for each other with brings plenty of drama as well. This book will have you laughing, cringing, and engaged right to the end.

Night Hawk by Susan Sleeman is the third book in her Nighthawk Security series. Clay Byrd from the Nighthawk Security Agency and FBI Agent Toni Long are both looking for answers to who killed Toni’s dad. When both of their lives are threatened, Clay enlists the help of his brothers to watch over Toni and help with the investigation. They uncover lies, murder and deep, dark family secrets that could squash the fragile feelings developing between Toni and Clay. Ms. Sleeman has a way of taking those sensitive subjects that you see in the headlines and weaving them into a story with grace, understanding and compassion without letting go of the danger and suspense. I enjoyed watching the feelings between Clay and Toni develop. He was such a gentleman. It was great to see the interaction between all of the Byrd family members. It makes you wish you were part of the family group!
I received this e-book from the author for my honest review. -
Night Hawk, Book 3 in the Nighthawk Security series is amazing! I love how with each book I get a closer look at the family (brothers) and how much the author brings them, and the storylines to life. Ms. Sleeman has always done an amazing job with action, suspense and writing a great adventure; but another gift she has is how invested I get with each of her characters. I love that this series allows me to stay involved with those I fell in love with at Blackwell Tactical and also through the Truth Seekers series. They are all family to me, so when something happens to one, it happens to me too. I love books that are psychological in nature, with many layers to uncover as I turn the pages. Night Hawk was amazing. I didn’t want to put it down and kept turning the pages well into the night. I cannot wait for Night Moves, the next one in this series.

Another fast-paced, deeply entangled mystery from a master suspense writer. This novel deals with an old missing person case and the horrific scenario of human trafficking. The girl who disappeared thirty years ago just happens to be connected to FBI Agent Toni Long, who learns disturbing truths about her family as the case unfolds. Thrown together with Clay Byrd in this tough investigation, Toni nearly loses her life more than once. Danger stalks them as Clay and his brothers attempt to uncover who is behind it all and stop their crimes before more people are harmed. Twists and surprises keep you guessing, and you won’t want to set the book aside until you find out who’s guilty and see them meet justice. The author did a good job conveying realistic human emotions in such trying circumstances. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Read until the end because I wanted to know if they’d catch the bad guy, but that’s only because I am stubborn : the book is very slow, the characters are verry religious (which is neither good or bad, just takes quite a lot of space and breaks the suspense).
Toni is like made of titanium, everyone is dead/she has a surprise sister that no one told her about and that is being human-trafficked/her love intérest loves her but she does not want to start anything/her grandparents were dead but now they are alive/ her great uncle was a pedophile/ her father killed her greatuncle/someone is trying to kill her… and she’s just following through the investigation without breaking apart as if it were a normal situation.
I am all for strong heroines, they are my favourite character.
But here it is completely over the top.
…having written this review, I have no idea why I did not DNf lol -
This is book three in the Nighthawk Security series, However it is a stand alone book. Sleeman is one of my favorite authors. Her books are full of mystery, suspense, humor, family and romance. One thing I like about her books is they continue to bring people from previous books and the relationships develop, yet each is a stand alone. So if you just read one you can enjoy it and not feel lost.
In this book Clay Byrd and FBI agent Toni Long find themselves fighting for their life. They must try to solve multiple mysteries before time runs out. I fell in love with the Byrd family in book one, Night Fall, and always enjoy reconnecting with characters from previous books and even previous series'.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review. -
Wow, I struggled with this one. The first two I got into and just kept reading, but I picked up and put down this one several times. I couldn't find anything to grab hold of at the beginning of the story, and the theme of the story was a hard one, one that made me uncomfortable - sex trafficking.
Toni and Clay had had an almost relationship in the past, but when Clay's brothers began their protection agency whatever may have been fizzled out. Toni and Clay meet again in the janitor's closet at an old building, both drawn their by mysterious notes. When there they are faced with a poisonous snake and a fire set to kill them. Clay's SAT phone brings help in the nick of time and while they are investigating the building they find the skeleton of a woman and the set up for a trafficking group. Suddenly Toni and Clay's family are booted off of the investigation by the FBI and they are on their own. Toni and Clay agree to work together to find the man who was in charge of this group as well as the man who killed Toni's father.
Lots of suspense and some romance in this one. It is clean but the topic is uncomfortable. -
Love the Byrds!
I have to say that I love the Byrd family! And this is the best book in the Nighthawk Security series. At least until Drakes’ story comes out. ;o) Night Hawk is an amazing story of faith, courage, love and diligence in rescuing those who are helpless. The details of the all that goes into fighting crime is awe inspiring. It makes you very grateful to all of the people who do these difficult jobs, and for all of their sacrifices. No spoilers, I’ll just say that this is a book that I will read over and over again! I loved Clay and Toni and their story. -
Family
Another book to get lost in. With the rainy , foggy atmosphere and the mission to find trafffcked children, every page held suspense . Clay Byrd takes the lead with his brothers to protect Toni, an FBI agent searching for the murderer of her dad. The mutual attraction has to be put on hold so they can all stay alive and put some very bad people behind bars but Clay 's charm and sweetness is on display! The Veritas group joins in and even Blackwell Tactical is involved so it honestly feels like catching up with friends. These friends keep me turning pages trying to keep up with them as they run into dangers to serve others. -
Great book with one small thing
First, I love the series. I've read other Sherman books and they all have adventure, intensity, and romance and I love the commanderie between the brothers and the humor.
The only thing I would suggest is to.find a new phrase. Always when the characters kiss it is electrifying. I know it is small but it is also slightly overused.
Other than that I look forward to reading more of Susan Sleek and books. -
Faith and Fire
Toni and Clay met during an task force operation and hit it off. As they were closing in Toni’s father shows up unexpectedly and is killed. A year later they each receive a note to go to an abandoned school. Thus, they are reunited and sparks fly, literally. This book draws you in and keeps you there. Toni and Clay both struggle and come to see how God can use what man means for evil to bring good. I can’t wait until July when book 4 releases! -
Another great suspenseful read in this series. I love the forensic detail Ms. Sleeman adds and explanations given for the novice sleuth as well. A gritty subject--human trafficking of children--is the plot of this story, but I felt it was done tastefully. A real page turner--couldn't put the book down! And right when things were seemingly working themselves out--WHAM!! What a plot twist and exciting ending! I highly recommend this book.
