Lady Grim: A Halloween Anthology Reviews

3.50 Stars. This was a good collection of horror and paranormal reads for Halloween. I’m not the biggest fan of short stories, I’m much more of a novella and full length reader, but what was nice was that these were not short shorts. 13 stories over 400 pages, gives you enough time as a reader to sink into each new setting. As in most collections some shorts were better than others, so my 3.50 rating is the median score for all the stories that I read.
I was attracted to this collection because of my love for paranormal, but also because of the list of authors. This collection has some very popular indie authors in lesfic and some published too. I’m happy I can finally say I read something by Lise Gold, it’s been too long coming. I do have to mention that I passed on reading two stories, Erica Lee’s and Annette Mori’s. Erica Lee is on my do not read author list and Mori’s story was tied into a world that a few of her series take place in. Mori actually wrote a chart to explain the characters and what books they came from which was really nice and should be helpful to other readers. It just happens that I’m so anal about reading books in order that I could not jump into the middle of the series with that short. Her other books are sitting on my kindle, waiting to be read, so eventually I will come back and read Mori’s short story.
When it came to the stories themselves, I was surprised there were more stories on the horror side and in fact they were grimmer than I expected. I guess I should have expected that from the title. There were some creepy stories and a lot of the kinds of horror were bad things happen to people. If you have read some of Ocean’s horror books you will know she likes to torture her characters a bit and that was a similar feel in quite a few of these shorts
I’m not going to comment on all the shorts but I wanted to mention some of my favorites. There were two stories I felt that stood out among the rest. My absolute favorite ended up being Lila Bruce’s story. It was a campy werewolf story that was just fun to read. After enjoying her book
Chasing Shadows so much, I’m not surprised how entertaining her short was. My second favorite was by KC Luck. What was different about this story is that it was really sad, sad but also warm. I know that sounds so odd to have as a favorite in a horror collection, but I just thought it was beautifully written and it’s a story that will stick with me. I also have to add some honorable mentions to Lise Gold, Serena Bishop, and Ann Hagan. These three stories were all well done and good Halloween reads.
If you are looking for a collection of horror and paranormal stories, which are mostly on the darker side, this collection is for you. I did not connect with all the stories but that is almost impossible in collections. The stories that I liked, I really liked and quite a few were really well imagined. -
You’re in for a treat!
13 fabulous authors really let their imaginations run riot. Each twisted tale sent chills down my spine and each story has its own unique style. From little spooky to downright terrifying, from mystical to macabre. Stories with pure evil of seemingly ordinary people. Stories with supernatural forces, ghostly beings and so much more. Needless to say, there is something for every Halloween enthusiast in this amazing anthology. Grab your copy and get ready for some creepy fun and thrilling adventures with weird and wonderful characters. -
Good spooky Halloween fun with a women loving women vibe from some of your favourite and well known authors in lesfic! A kindle unlimited read.
I used to be a big fan of spooky reddit subs, also "creepy catalog" back in the day, reading the stories and articles on those sites and freaking myself out enough to keep me awake at night! LOL!
So if you were (or still are) like me, you would probably love this ensemble.
The entire thing is over 7 hours of content, and so I found myself picking it up and reading a story or two here and there, first searching for my fave authors, then going back for the rest.
My favourite stories were from Lise Gold, Ocean, LL Shelton, KC Luck and Serena Bishop.
Check em out! -
What a trip down Halloween lane... or something that makes more sense. This was a trip though, a freaky one at that. A great collection of stories from superb authors. I hope I sleep well tonight.

Oh wow! These awesome authors have gone above and beyond to give me such terrifying entertainment! They truly deserve the highest of fives for breathing life into these bone chilling stories! Halloween is right around the corner and these riveting and frightful stories have certainly set the mood for me. I think I will definitely sleep with the light on for a while because every scene in each of these stories were so vividly portrayed and I felt as though I was taking a wild romp with the spirits and the other supernatural forces in this book!

Of course as one of the authors I did get an advanced copy.
All the short stories will really get you in the Halloween mood.
Just don't read them after dark. lol -
A frightening collection!
A great collection of Halloween short stories by brilliant authors. There is something for everyone in this collection, with spooky tales, to dark stories, and terrifying ones. All of the stories had a unique take on a scary story and that made for a varied and exciting collection.
I enjoyed all of the stories (even though I really don’t do scary) but I loved this. Just little snippets of the things nightmares are made of. I can’t pick a favourite story because they were all brilliant and every author had done a great job of bringing a different element of scary. I will say though, there was one story (by Ocean) that I have to shout out as it really did traumatise me in a way horror should!
If you have fears then this collection will instil them further maybe even give you a few more!!!
I highly recommend the collection to anyone who likes a good fright, it will get your heart racing and your imagination going wild. It was great to read stories from authors I know and love, and discover some new authors too, and for Halloween, this was the perfect read. -
.
I was in a mood for feeling a little scared and this anthology definitely delivered. I enjoyed almost all of these stories and some of them definitely freaked me out more than I expected.
THE CALLING OF SERAFINE CD CAIN- 4.5, the ending made me cry.
THE PRICE OF PLEASURE KJ - 2 I liked parts of the story, not so much the style.
SAMPLE 27 ~ SERENA J. Bishop - 3.5 this was the kind of story I was hoping for when I picked up this anthology.
SPIDER ISLAND ~ OCEAN - 3 fuck, as someone afraid of spiders I regret reading this one.
MIDNIGHT SLAIN IN GEORGIA ~ ANNE HAGAN - 3 cool idea, i wish it was a little more developed.
BAD MOON RISING ~ LILA BRUCE - 4 I liked the tension in this story.
THE GRAND MALUM ~ LISE GOLD - 4 this felt very creepypasta-like and i really liked that.
EX RATED ~ ERICA LEE - 3.5 This one had a really strong start but it fizzled out by the end.
HAUNTING VANITY ~ ERIN WADE - 4.5 this messed up with my brain in a good way.
WITCHES, VAMPIRES, AND SHIFTERS, OH MY! ~ ANNETTE MORI - I skipped this one because it has too many characters from previous works by this author for me to be able to keep up.
THE TOWN OF SUNFLOWER FIELDS ~ LL SHELTON - 1 this one was a little too messy for me.
CAT PEOPLE ~ ELLE HYDEN - 3.5 I would like to read a full book based on this story tbh.
ANNIVERSARY ~ KC Luck - 5 God it's just not okay to finish on a story like that and break my heart. -
A great anthology! If you like creepiness and horror, this collection of short stories is perfect. Some I liked more than others, as usual with anthologies, but my favourites included Spider Island by Ocean, The Grand Malum by Lise Gold, The Town of Sunflowers Fields by LL Shelton, and Anniversary by KC Luck. Would be keen to read another horror anthology with stories written by all the authors featured. I really hope we get to see a Lady Grim 2!

Loved it
Really enjoyable and quick reads. Two stories made me cry cause they were sad lol. The others were pretty freaky and spooky -
As an anthology, this book had a little bit of everything. Some of the stories were really good, some where needlessly horny, and some were... less than good. At least one was eye-rollingly bad. None of the stories are what I'd call particularly scary or even spooky, but some are memorable enough. I can't say I'd recommend this book to anyone for the quality of writing, but I absolutely would to support more wlw stories and indie authors. One thing I enjoyed about all of the stories is that the authors normalized being a lesbian in such a casual, natural way, treating it like just a fact of life rather than a big deal. None of the stories were "lesbian faces adversity because she's a lesbian" which allowed the reader to jump right into the plot of each and focus on that.

A lot of short stories, some surprise endings and some not so good but a nice read on a lazy day.
