Llewellyns 2022 Herbal Almanac: A Practical Guide to Growing, Cooking Crafting Reviews

Contains some mildly interesting articles, presented, as the title suggests, in the style of a farmer's almanac. There is little to no magick or witchcraft mentioned, unless you count the charts at the back regarding moon and astrological planting. Some of the articles are written at elementary-school level, so beware. I did enjoy the ones about green tea, heirloom plants, and the herbs of colonial gardens, as well as some of the recipes (none of which I've tried). The "crafts" section, however, is a big disappointment, consisting of only three articles, two of which involve adding features like birdbaths and feeders to attract wildlife to a garden (hardly revolutionary or new!), and increasing growing space with trellises. The "crafts" in the third article include how to engage children using dead leaves and glitter, making salt dough (but it doesn't say what to use it for) and an awful sounding how-to for "woodsy masquerade masks" in which pieces of cardboard, cut out using an old shoe as a template, are glued to cheap plastic sunglasses. No thanks. This book is, in my opinion, way overpriced for what you get. Save your money and pick up the annual Old Farmer's Almanac - which is far less expensive and contains much more real, scientific and trustworthy information.

Didn't have the information I expected, but still a good read and had some cool recipes and gardening tips

This is a nice little guide and has good info. I really appreciate the craft section for kids! I’ll go back to this several times this year for gardening and herbalism.

    Great guide

I liked how versatile this book is. It covers many things about gardening and plants. The best section would be the companion plant guide.

Honestly for a beginner this is a great guide and starter pack of information to learn about and look into!
