Griffin O’Shea is a traitor.
It’s what those outside the prison realm called him when he chose the wrong side in the war of the fae queens. Now, he is the only person in the entire fae world who remembers his dark deeds.
The moment Griffin crossed into the prison realm, every fae he’d ever known forgot he existed. Left with nothing—not even his magic—he’s had to survive in a land of eternal darkness where a ruthless king terrorizes villages full of Dark Fae. Creatures with magnificent wings, tails, and horns wander the darkness of Myrkur, forgotten by all who believe this harsh world is one for criminals alone.
It’s been nearly ten years, and once again, Griffin is traitor to a king. But this time instead of punishment, Griffin is offered a mission that will take him across the magical barrier into the realms he once called home.
His task? Find a way to destroy the magic keeping the Dark Fae inside the prison realm.
Riona, the king’s champion, watches Griffin’s every move, forcing him to remain loyal to the dark king even when facing a brother who does not recognize him, an ex-wife who doesn’t know him, and two children that could be the key to everything.
Destroying the prison magic will send dangerous fae out into the peaceful realms, and Griffin must decide if maybe this time, becoming a traitor is the right thing to do.

Faes Prisoner (Crimes of the Fae, #1) Reviews

After reading Queens of the Fae, I had such mixed feelings about Griffin... but now I love him! This book caught my attention early, and I could not stop reading. For those who've read the other series, it builds off the world we already know and love, but you can read this without the others. (Although, I highly recommend all the books.)

Griffin is such a unique character. It's very much a redemption story, and it's well done so far. I love seeing this new, more mature side of him. We even see him caring for a young boy like a son (not a spoiler, it's shown in the very beginning). I'm also very intrigued by some of the new characters brought into the story.

It's really hard to talk about the book without spoiling things, but just know that it's fantastic and I cannot wait for the next one!

This is a spin off of the series "Queens of the Fae". I haven't read it (yet) - and you don't have to - but of course there's some feeling that I might be missing a little background story. Griffin O'Shea used to be the bad guy, but here he's thoughtful and caring. It might be very interesting to read it in opposite order!

To me this world is new, with three fae realms, as well as the prison realm. In parallel with this fantasy world we also get to visit the human world. I like both the world building and the characters, and I'm looking forward to continue the series. Besides Griffin, one of the most intriguing characters is Riona, king Egan's loyal warrior. She accompanies Griffin on his mission for the king. She's never experienced anything other than the darkness of the prison realm, and when they get to the other realms she's having problems with the light and all the colours. It reminds me of the cultural clashes that can arise in our own world, and that we might be better off if we kept an open mind... Griffin doesn't know if he can trust Riona - and I don't know either. She's loyal to king Egan, but do I get the feeling that she's starting to view him in a different light?

Some unnecessary repetitions bothered me a bit. For example, it was mentioned several times that once you entered the prison realm you lost your magic. Some things are worth repeting, but no more than once. Other than that I really can't "complain" much, and I feel ready to read the next book!

    * I received an ARC from the authors and I'm giving my honest review.

    3,5/5 ⭐️

Griffin’s redemption arc deserved 5 stars, but this story sadly didn’t. 🥲

« If you forget the very fae who caused so much turmoil, how are the kingdoms supposed to learn from it? »

I am still much in love with this world, and I loved discovering the 4th kingdom, the prison realm, and all the different kind of dark fae that lived in it.

But overall, this story was just… plain. Things happen, but not in a crescendo. It is just succession of action without any growth of any characters. It really feels like a filler book, without any important plot or romance. Maybe the 5th novel will be better? I hope so 🥹

Some people say you can read this one without reading the first trilogy, but I disagree. If you want to understand all subtility in Griffin’s emotions and the awkwardness of his reunion with hid old friennemies, you need the background and the world building in the first 3 books.

  • Tiffany

I was so excited when I found out that we were getting more from this world. I fell in love with the characters in the first book. Griffin deserved a redemption story and this is it. Griffin has been in the prisoner realm for over ten years. Everyone who he loved doesn’t remember him. Including his wife or should I say ex wife Brea.

I really enjoyed getting to see how the prison realm works and how theirs entire generations living there for their ancestors crimes. Some of which didn’t commit any crime and was just born a dark fae.

The authors have introduced us to a handful of new characters. Riona is a dark fae loyal to the king. I really enjoyed her as a character but I feel like the authors made her personality switch just a bit too quickly. At the beginning of the book she’s seemed to be a dark and powerful warrior to the king but once they are out of the prison realm she changed pretty quickly. It didn’t feel natural. Gulliver is such a cute kid really. I also love that he has such cat like characteristics. I do however wish that the authors named him something different. It’s just too similar to Griffin that while reading I would confuse the two and have to reread the section over again. We are also introduced to a bunch of kiddos, but I won’t get into that in this review. I will however say their is one kid that I really hate at the moment.

This book was very fast paced and more travel based than action. I have a feeling that all the fighting and action will be in book two and three. Book one was more of an introduction to our new characters and getting everyone up to speed on what happened those then years that Griffin was in the prison realm. Even though we don’t get much action in the book we get to see how things were possible in the previous series and everything gets set up for the new series. I really think that book two and three are going to be even better than this one.

With that being said it was very fast paced and a quick read. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to read a new fae series full of magic, family and adventure.

  • TXBRITGAL

First off I HIGHLY suggest having read the previous series this one spins off from: QUEENS OF THE FAE so that you can understand all that led Griffin into landing in the prison realm. Not to mention it gives you an understanding later in the book to all the interpersonal relationships and potential enemies!

I absolutely LOVED the first series, and this book didn't disappoint as a follow up. We pick up roughly ten years after Griffin crossed into the prison realm, thus leaving everyone behind magically forgetting him. He's grown leaps and bounds as a man in this time, and has become a small time leader of sorts for refugees in this realm. He's also a father figure to a kind hearted, impish dark fae youth. Ten years and few know his story, but all that's about to change when forced to bargain with the "King" of this realm to save one he cares for. His past quickly rises to meet him when forced to go back across the barrier. Can he save the people he cares for, the kingdoms he left behind, all without aiding this corrupt king? More secrets are ahead in thus quest. Can old foes become friends? Can family trust once more? New threats emerge, and this adventure becomes more important than ever for so very many reasons. Cheer Griff on as he fights for good to reign. May the fog lift from those he held dear, so they might see the man he was and who he's grown to become. I can't wait to see what's up next!!

I don’t really know how to put my thoughts into a review for this book. I liked, really really liked it actually, but I’ve been sitting here for two days now still trying to write a review. I’m glad Griffin has his own story, I’ve always liked him, even when I was mad and “hated” him, I like him. It’s a very good book and I do recommend it but maybe wait until the rest of the books are out so you don’t have to sit here and “suffer” waiting for the second book like I am 😂

  • Catalina

I loved Queen of the Fae series, and when I heard there was a sequel, I jumped right in. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. Not only did this book get me out of my awful book slump, it was beautiful! At Queen of the Fae, we end the story with the happy ending- bad guy goes away, princess marries prince, and they all live happily ever after. Guess what? Bad guy gets his own book now.
We begin the story for Griff, and the character development is so deep, you ACTUALLY LOVE THE GUY. I was able to feel his pain and anguish, and by mid book I was totally #TeamGriff.

I can't wait for the other books to come out!

  • Debbie Eyre

I loved the original series and was very excited to read this spin off from it and OMG it’s is every bit as good! I love the incredible world the authors have built and found myself completely lost in the story. I loved this storyline, loved the characters and have a love, hate relationship for Griffin! I am anxiously awaiting book two!

I really loved these books. In my opinion, you DO need to read ‘Queens of the Fae’ trilogy before reading this trilogy. If you’d ask me, I’d even consider this Book 4. There’s too much information brought in from the last three books. They’re definitely fast books but I enjoyed reading them. Griffin was one of my favorite characters and I’m glad he got a trilogy of his own.

  • Cassandra-Lee Doon

I loved this series. Its a young adult series, but its so addictive.
Griffin is by far my main man in this series:)
He goes from horrible to down right loveable. He redeems himself so well.

  • Lillian

I received an eARC of this book via the authors. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

This is the book I didn’t know I needed! Fae’s Prisoner by M. Lynn & Melissa A. Craven is the first book in their spin-off series Crimes of the Fae. Taking place roughly ten years after the events in Queens of the Fae, the authors take us into the prison realm where the fae prince we all hate to love is making amends by helping those who can’t help themselves. Fae’s Prisoner is a dark redemption tale that will leave you begging for more.

Oh Griff, my poor misguided fae! Griffin O’Shea is one of those characters that you love and hate yourself for loving all at the same time. If you haven’t read Queens of the Fae yet, I highly suggest you do because that is where you will get Griff’s backstory. Sent to the prison realm after helping Queen Regan try to take over the Fae kingdoms, Griff accepted his fate without argument. In fact, he was the one to suggest it. His time in Myrkur, the kingdom the Fae have forgotten, has allowed him to evaluate his actions and start over with a new purpose. He’s dedicated his life to protecting the Dark Fae he calls family from their tyrannical king. Yet he still questions himself, what he did, who he hurt, and believes that nothing he has done since then can ever atone for those sins. Truly, he breaks my heart, and at the same time I want to reach through the pages and give him a good smack on the head! Broody male….

The story follows Griff in his new life. We meet several new characters, all of whom I love, though Gulliver is my favorite. I love this little dark fae who absolutely steals the spotlight! But I digress, the plot begins when Griff’s true identity is revealed to the king of Myrkur. The king wants the barrier down, and he plans to use Griff to do it. Blackmailed into helping the king, Griff finds himself back where it all began, facing the demons that have haunted him for the last ten years.

But he isn’t alone. With Griff is Riona, the king’s champion. She’s a rare dark fae, and I’m not really sure how to feel about her. At times, she’s brutal and cunning. At others, she’s kind. This leaves Griff’s head spinning. I’m curious to see where the authors are going to take her character because Riona could be a force of evil or be the ultimate hero.

Overall, I loved Fae’s Prisoner. It was great seeing all the familiar characters and revisiting the world the authors created in the first series. Though I’m definitely seeing it in a different light. Griff was one of my favorite characters already so I was so excited when they announced he was getting his own series. I love seeing the changes in him, and this redemption arc is going to be epic! I highly recommend this one to anyone that enjoys fantasy, especially fae.

It is the way that this book is written that is both enticing but also feels like it drags on forever. I truly couldn't get through the first part of the book. I think that is more so because the previous trilogy ruined me. But, also, diving into a new world within the familar was a bit hard to get through. Griffin has spent 10 years navigating through Myrkur (Prison Realm). The book is pretty slow but it does a great job of creating a strong bond between Griffin and his ward, Gulliver. Riona is an interesting character but the switch of Griffin seeing Riona as more than an enemy/travel companion felt forced. Suddenly he was seeing her as someone he was interested in.

Also, the way that Riona tells Griffin that he is likely not in love with Brea anymore broke my heart. It felt like a disservice to what they had. Griffin and Brea did love each other, I believe that, but the way that he is mending belittles what they had in some ways. I just hope that Griffin doesn't dismiss it for what it was for him. Riona is interesting but there were only a few chapters of her POV which was fine but kind of boring because there was nothing insightful as to why King Egan has such a hold on her.

The moment that Griffin reunites with Lochlan and Brea both warmed my heart and also broke it because of how one-sided it was. They could not remember him and he remembered it all and yet missed out on so much. He is now an uncle to 4 children. What did make me nearly cry is that when Griffin showed up in Fargelsi, Myles remembered him. Lochlan feeling the brotherly bond between them made me happy but I know that when they all remember it might cause a rift again.

Tia (Tierney) drove me mad through the book. She might take after Brea but she is even more dense than her mother. She doesn't know her limits even after causing people pain and that just drives me crazy. I get it, she is a kid, and I get that it is a plot device but I just want to scream. That's all haha.

One of the most memorable characters from The Queens of the Fae series by the same authors is Griff. His character had so much potential for change, the chance to be a better person. In the series he kept making the wrong choices. I am so happy that now he has a series of his own. Anything by these authors is sure to be great, but I have a special love for their fantasy.

Griff has spent the last decade in the fae’s prison realm. He once a had a life amidst the other fae but his ambition and loyalty to an evil queen led him to his current life. When one enters the prison realm, all those left behind forget you ever existed. This is a fate Griff accepted as his due, a direct result of his own choices.

But the prison realm wasn’t at all what he thought it would be. It isn’t only home to the regular fae sentenced there. It is also the home of all the innocent dark fae who were born and reside there, trapped inside the magical barrier just like the prisoners.

Over the past ten years, Griff has built a new life and helped build a hidden village. Hidden from the cruel king of the realm. It seems the greedy will seize what power they can no matter where they are, ever here.

When Griff’s chosen family runs afoul of the king, he is blackmailed into helping him. Will Griff help this cruel king escape the prison realm? Or will he stay faithful to those who have forgotten him? Can he save his new family without betraying his past?

Griffin's Story From The Prison Realm, After The War!!😳😢💔💥
    Darkness & Pain, Light & Redemption?🌑💔😎🙏😍
Fae's Prisoner (Crimes of the Fae #1)

I'm so excited to return to this world build.😍
Griffin was the bad guy who came good at the very end. He went to the prison realm voluntarily, to break his marriage bond to free Brea. She'd been tricked into marrying him & loved his big brother Lochlan, he felt it was the least he could do for her. It also meant everyone could forget Griffin O'Shea and what damage & hurt he'd caused!!💔 He's been there for 10 years. No one remembers that the realm actually contains innocent Dark Fae as well the prisoners of the Fae Kingdoms, because an old Queens magic twisted the spell to make them forget!!😳

Can the man Griff has become in the darkness be better than the one who grew in the light? When tested will be bold his course or seek glory & power? Can love, family & new loyalties save him & give him the redemption he'd hoped for? I really hope so!!🙏 As you'd expect from this Author the writing is full, well written & captivating. I'm excited for the remainder of this story!😍🌟

Fae's Prisoner by M Lynn and Melissa A Craven is about Griffin, who we already know from the Queen of Fae series. This book is set 10 years after the series, ten years Griff spent in the Prison Realm trying to survive. As his true identity gets out, the King of Myrkur, the land of the Prison Realm, wants Griff to find a way to break down the border around his realm. Griff takes this as a chance to get himself and the innocent people there out of the Prison Realm and has to face people from his past to get the information he needs. But it's not that easy being forgotten by everyone he ever knew..
I absolutely loved Fae's Prisoner! Reading the Queen of Fae series I had mixed feelings about Griffin, I didn't like him much, but this book changed it! It shows a whole new version of Griff, one I came to love. It's super interesting to see how everyone and everything changed during the ten years and I loved to see old characters again. Fae's Prisoner is a suspenseful book with a great plot and it pays of especially for those people who read the Queen of Fae series! It's great to be back in this wonderful world again!

  • Nicole Vanadia Davis

I was extremely excited when I found out there was going to be a spin off of the Queens of Fae trilogy. I loved that world and all of the characters and I do not recommend reading this book until you have read that. It wouldn't make sense and also that trilogy would be spoiled. I didn't hate Griffin in that series but I was frustrated with his character. He never lived up to what I thought he could be. His sacrifice at the end was the start of his redemption and I'm glad we get to see him work through it. I'm so happy we get to visit with some of my favorite characters again. And this time it's an entirely different relationship with everyone. So far I'm still mildly frustrated with Griffin, but I expected that. I do wish there was a little more that took place in the Prison Realm but I think we got adequate info about it. Gulliver is a likeable character and I hope to see him grow in the coming books. I'm still on the fence about Riona. She's still a mystery but I have a feeling her secrets will make her out to be a better fae than we believe. I can't wait to see what the next book has to say. 100% recommend reading this book.

Fae's Prisoner is the first book in the Crimes of the Fae series, and good lord does it just leave off right where the other series did.

Now, instead of getting Brea's POV we get Griffin's and I may or may not be becoming a fan very quickly....

Within this book we are re-introduced to Griffin, after being in the prison realm for the past ten years due to his crimes against the fae, Griffin must travel back to the lands and people that don't remember him. To a wife that doesn't remember him, but when he arrives in the fae realm, he quickly realizes that the world is not as he left it and his time in the prison realm has changed a lot.

The journey may not be easy and it surely won't be anything anyone has expected.

This series is outstanding, the longer I read the more that each character speaks to me and plays a quite specific part within this story. I'm very excited to see what the rest of the series will bring as well as how much action and fantasy these two amazing authors can fit into it!

  • Kanyon

If you’ve read the Queen of the Fae series you know who Griffin is. Though if you haven’t, you’re in for a ride. This is a more intense story, but really gripped me and my feelings. I honestly can’t wait for more! It’s an overall great read with new and old characters, wonderful world building and fast paced action.

Fae’s Prisoner is the first book in the Crimes of the Fae series.

I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

OMGosh! This story was amazing! These authors never disappoint! From the colorful characters, to the creative lands they travel, to the twists in the story! This book started in a dark twisted realm with what I thought was going to be the focus of the story, but noooo. The tale turned and wound through more realms pulling new characters into the ever thickening plot! This was a page turner that I could not put down. I loved being able to follow some of the same characters from The Queens of the Fae series by these two authors. You don't have to read that trilogy before you read this one but, I do highly recommend it, I love that series so much. Now I am going to suffer waiting to find out what happens in the second book!!! Ugghhhh!

Wow, this book was great! This is a story about Griff, a character from the Queens of the Fae series. I highly recommend reading that series first before this one to fully understand how Griff got to where he is now.

This book was a page turner and it was really interesting to learn about this different realm. After reading the previous series, I've always wondered what ever happened to Griff. This series will answer all these questions and then some. Just as exciting, well-written, and fast-paced as the previous series, this book started off strong. I'm looking forward to reading book 2!

  • Classie VanderMolen

I love these books. But honestly I don’t think I can see past Griffin being the bad guy haha, I tried sooo hard. I enjoyed this and couldn’t put it down though! So here’s so thoughts I had..
Gulliver is exasperating, but he’s kinda cute
Griffin spends the whole book saving people
Honestly griffin and brea were only together for a minute why he acts like they were together for years is beyond me. Other than his watching her for years before she knew.. Also him calling her his wife all the time creeped me out. Secretly am hoping that he’ll get to be able to be with his old family though!

  • Sydney

I was so excited to see the world continue in the fae world with Griff's story in the prison realm. Griff was a hard character to care about before but they did even with all that he had done make me care about him. So with it being ten years in the future it seems Griff has been through alot of changing and finding the family he has always wanted. Needless to say trouble finds him and he is trying to do the right thing but must protect the ones he loves. I won't give anything away but it was wonderful to see him continuing to grow and see what other secrets the fae world has kept hidden.

  • Talia C.

    Creative and captivating!

I never expected there to be a whole other world within the prison realm! And the fact that this book is 10 years after Griffin is sent there, and has been living without magic.. you can tell by the way the character is written that it has changed him.

I’m still not sure what to think about Riona.. not enough details have been given yet to determine if she is actually friend or foe..

I have enjoyed this series though.. as bad as the first book started out, it really has gotten extremely better !!
