A Stocking Full of Murder (A Tourist Trap Mystery) Reviews
-
A trio of short novellas written by Lynn Cahoon in the Tourist Trap Mysteries, each offers a holiday tale about our favorite California cozy mystery inhabitants. Jill is a fun protagonist, and if you just want a brief chance to get to know the characters and solve a mini-mystery, this will be tons of fun!

This is a fun series and these 3 quick reads were very good.

“A Stocking Full of Murder” by Lynn Cahoon features three short holiday mysteries: Corned Beef and Casualties, Mother’s Day Mayhem, and A Very Mummy Holiday.
Corned Beef and Casualties:
The St. Patrick’s Day Festival is bringing a lot of business to South Cove, California including Jill Gardner’s store Coffee, Books, and More which is filled with customers. Unfortunately, the festival also brings a murder when a body is found at the beach. Although Jill only met the murder victim once, she can’t help getting involved and trying to help her boyfriend Greg solve the case
“Corned Beef and Casualties” is a nice little mystery. I have never read any of the other Tourist Trap mysteries (something I will rectify) so at first I had a hard time figuring out who each character was but once I did I really enjoyed this mystery. The St. Patrick’s Day Festival setting is a nice one as is the mystery, I did feel bad for the murder victim and the motive was especially sad.
Mother’s Day Mayhem:
Jill is taken aback when Greg says he wants her to meet his mother. She is afraid his mother won’t like her. When she is not worrying about that, she is worrying about Kyle Nabors who works next door to her. His mother was recently released from jail but refuses to meet with Kyle which is breaking his heart. Jill can’t resist trying to find out why his mother is avoiding him but will Kyle be able to handle the reason?
“Mother’s Day Mayhem” was my favorite story in this collection. It is not a murder mystery, but the mystery in the story is very well done, if a bit heartbreaking. There are some twists and turns in the story that took me by surprise – well done. My one complaint about this story is the continuity – I wish my weekends had two Saturdays like a weekend in this story!
A Very Mummy Holiday:
Jill, Greg, and members of their family/friends have left South Cove to spend Thanksgiving week in Oregon. They are hoping for a nice quiet holiday but their hopes are quickly dashed when they first meet a group of menacing strangers and them stumble across a mummified body. The police think they know who the killer is but Jill isn’t convinced. Will her search for the real killer put her and her friends in danger?
“A Very Mummy Holiday” is a nicely done mystery. I like the Oregon setting – I could picture it while reading the story. The mystery is well done (if quite sad) with a great deal of tension that had me at the end of my seat while reading the story. It was pretty easy to figure out who the killer was but the tense situations still made this a great read. My only quibble with this story is another continuity error – just how long was the murder victim missing?
Continuity issues aside, “A Stocking Full of Murder” is a nice collection of short mysteries. -
"A Stocking Full of Murder" is a collection of three novellas by Lynn Cahoon.
"Corned Beef and Casualties"
The annual St. Patrick’s Day festival in South Cove is in full swing with rowdy behaviour from some and a late night discovery of a dead body on the beach
"Mother’s Day Mayhem"
Jill is caught a bit off guard when her boyfriend Greg announces that his mother wants to meet her at a Mother's Day dinner. Jill is also trying to help Kyle Nabors who works next door at the antique store to sort out what happened to his mother whom he hasn't seen since he was a kid.
"A Very Mummy Holiday"
Jill, Greg, her golden retriever Emma and some friends have left South Cove and headed north into Oregon for a Thanksgiving holiday. It's fun riding the dunes until one of the vehicles rolls and uncovers the mummified remains of a human body.
My thoughts:
Two of these short stories are murders and one is searching what has happened to a woman. These are quick reads but also add just a bit more fun and depth to the characters of the popular "Tourist Trap" series.
The first two should be read AFTER "Murder On Wheels" (book #6) and the third should be read after "Tea Cups And Carnage (book #7) -
This is a collection of three short stories starring Jill, local bookstore/coffeehouse owner and amateur sleuth. Along with her cop boyfriend, Greg, dog, Emma, and the cast of zany characters from South Cove, California, Jill solves murders and mysteries in their little tourist town. Quick, easy reads with uplifting writing, I enjoy taking a break from deeper, more intense novels with these gems!

My bad!
Sadly I didn’t read the description before I bought this, just the title. I thought it was a new book to read. Unfortunately it was three of Lynn Cahoon’s books from her Tourist Trap series that I had already read. A waste of money. -
The book contained 3 short stories each centered around a holiday. Jill and her friends in South Cove combine to help each other out. Jill always gets involved in helping her detective boyfriend solve the crime even though he tries to get her not to.
Entertaining mysteries. -
This is a grouping of novellas which are very enjoyable! Love this series!

Won this on a giveaway. I've never heard of the tourist trap mysteries before winning but I was curious. Three short stories about a coffee shop owner who sleuths around. It was a fun quick read.

A Stocking Full of Murder is three mystery novels taking place at St. Patrick's Day, Mother's Day and Halloween in the tourist town of South Cove, CA. Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books, and More along with her aunt, and her boyfriend, detective Greg King, become involved in mysteries taking place at the holidays. The town provides entertainments for many holidays and the St. Patrick's and Halloween stories take place in South Cove. The Mother's Day mystery takes place in a national forest in Oregon and was my favorite of the three.
