But with their parents FORBIDDING them from playing with each other, the two kids are flabbergasted. Flab-ber-gas-ted. Means shocked. Nothing to do with food and farts. Now the two of them have decided to find out why. Can Mr Om Namaha and Dr Solanki help? Or will I and P have to go up the hill to the fearsome Tekdichi Mhatari to solve this mystery?

    An Endearing Read!
A motley crowd of eccentric oldies, two neighbours who can’t see eye to eye, a colony where no one talks to anyone else and bang in the middle of this scenario two little kids!
Inu and Putti - two young minds and hearts with one objective – to find out why their parents keep fighting and why in the Shanti Park there seems to be no shanti? Searching for an answer to this question, I & P go from one cranky senior citizen to the other but make little headway!
Finally, their quest leads them to the mysterious TM! Can the ‘old lady of the hills’ tell why their folks and others are at logger heads and more importantly can she help shanti return to Shanti Park! To find out read this delightful book which is a worthy successor to Harshikaa’s award winning Kittu’s Very Mad Day! ‘Friends behind Walls’ has the trademark Harshikaa humour and a plot with never a dull moment! Gems such as: ‘Brouhaha – it doesn’t mean you laugh while brewing tea or coffee’ & ‘App-re-hen-sive- nothing to do with hens who have apps’ – dot the pages drawing or rather brewing chuckles all through!

The book is a must read because it does what books rarely do – breaks the wall between reader and the story. Again, read the book to know how author Harshikaa Udasi does it! It’s a lovely device enticing readers to go further. It also hints at what the author has mentioned in her interviews, that Friends Behind Walls was meant as a picture book, but was later expanded into a full-fledged novel. There’s also another brilliant device in explaining the words that may not be understood. And it’s done in a way that doesn’t draw attention to the felicity with which the words are penned. A hat tip to the author for these superb ideas and their flawless execution!
